"Perfect Stay"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 4, 2012
The Westin was perfect! Stayed in a suite with friends for a weekend away. The hotel was clean and the service was great. The location is perfect for walking and dining in the old port and totally accessible if you want to spend time downtown or further North. No complaints!

Price at the restaurant was high ei $16.00 for glass of house wine. Gym under reno and card for other facility didn't work
"A Returning Guest"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 3, 2012
Staff is friendly, restaurants are wonderful, location ideal!
"Perfection in Old Montreal"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 3, 2012
We only stayed the one night at Place d'Armes hotel, on our way back to Vancouver and then home, but we wished we had more time, and will return. The hotel staff were both welcoming and efficient (not a combination one often finds), and the hotel itself was immaculate in every respect. The room was flawless in its design, the bed was soft enough to be comfortable, but not so soft as to feel like one is clambering from a bean-bag, upon rising, (as I found in so many hotels in the States!) I particularly appreciated that the designers had eschewed a bath/shower combination in the large bathroom, and installed a large, stone-clad, walk-in shower with a beautiful glass shower screen, instead. The location of the hotel was perfect for exploring Old Town Montreal by foot, which was just what we wanted to do, since we only had the one night. When we checked out, we left our luggage with Place D'Armes, mentioned when we would return for our flight and, when we did, a taxi was already awaiting us. Immaculate service.

"You get what you pay for...and less..."
Hallways smell like smoke, massive road construction in front makes it almost impossible to even stop your car to get out, good luck with parking in that area unless you want to pay $20 to park in back (they're own parking!) and have to walk around the block to gain access back into the hotel. Never again.

"No Elevator - Poor Quality Phone - No Internet"
The person managing the front Desk was very helpful and went all out to cover up the inconveniences due to No Elevator, Poor Phone and wireless internet not functioning.
"Cheap and cheerful"
Friendly staff. Great value, without compromising comfort and cleanliness.
"The Hotel Plateau Royale in Montreal - good deal"
I stayed there for 3 nights. The place was especially roomy for the price. Our bed could have been a bit sturdier or replaced. The middle of it was kind of soft, and sunk in but not too bad (it was king size, just sleep on the harder edges. The breakfast was just toast and muffins with coffey or tea. Everything looks well kept, although I don't agree […] with their taste in furniture, but that's all up to you to see for yourself. It was pretty close by some bus stops which was convenient. This is one of the worst hotel I have stayed in. The breakfast room is like a rat hole (with four or five tables). The Continental breakfast consists of cereal and milk, bread and butter, coffee. The coffee was watery. I cut short my stay at this lousy hotel, and went to Hilton Bonaventura. They had swimming pool, fitness room, a security vault in the […] room, a delightful breakfast, wonderful ambiance. I Read more

"Central location, good price, and ..."
The location of this hotel is perfect to whomever wants to see Montreal by foot, metro, bus. There is not enough street parking though, we had to feed the meter a couple of times. The price is good for its location, the amenities were OK not stellar but good enough. Room was clean, warm, could use some paint though. WiFi was free, but not that fast, […] it did the job for what we needed it for. Dont expect a 3 start continental breakfast; toast, milk, coffee, some muffins, and cheerios. I guess its what you pay for. Staff was friendly during the late shift, they speak a bazillion languages which is great. overall I give 3 stars but would have liked to pay $10 less per night for the service. I would go there again, you cant beat the location for the price, and I am not a breakfast person anyways. hope this helps. Read more
Small room, noise from neigbors echo, not obviously dirty though also not obviously clean. No parking (all city metered). Bed was comfortable
"Great location - No elevator"
This is a small European style hotel located in the Plateau and within easy walking distance to MontRoyal Park and the MontRoyal Metro station. And since we're on the topic of walking, be prepared to walk up to five flights of stairs to get to your room. It's basically a step up from a hostel. You get your own room with your own bathroom and there […] is maid service, but you will carry your own baggage and you will need your own alarm clock. There is no refrigerator. There is, however, free Wifi and local telephone calls are free. My room was clean and comfortable. The reception staff was friendly and accommodating. The free breakfast consists of cereal, croissants, and plain coffee and is served in the basement. I skipped in favor of one of the small cafes located on the Ave MontRoyal. The food was much better and it was nice to enjoy my coffee while watching the world pass by the window, I was also able to enjoy a picnic in Jean Mance Park with the food and wine purchased at a nearby supermarket. Both the supermarket and the park are on the Ave MontRoyal. If you prefer Old Montreal or the downtown area, this may not your best choice. The same is true if you like the amenities provided by the bigger chain hotels. The Plateau is my favorite area of Montreal and this why I would love to stay there again. If you need a place to rest up in between walking, checking out the funky shops, and general touristing, this is the place for you. If stair climbing is a part of your fitness program, this definitely is the place for you. Read more
"fantastic location!"
We just stayed at the Plateau and it was great. We were very busy the whole time, so it was great to come back to a quiet place. Our room was on the back side, so it was very quiet. It is not fancy by any means and we did not pay a fancy price, however, it is clean and the service is great. It was a very stress free stay. It is just a few blocks from […] subway and buses are outside the door. A bonus for us was that they had tennis courts across the street. It is a verrry central location for a very good price. Location and price are the reasons this hotel is perfect when location and price are the considerations. My stay was to be with my 20 something daughter and enjoy the \\plateau and walking in the neighbourhood where she lived during university. So we needed a clean place to sleep, shower and change our clothes. So, it all depends what you are looking […] for. The TV didnt work - but that didn't matter. For a different place and hotel, I might not think that. So its all relative and this hotel is perfect and relevent.. Read more

"great location"
great location next to the mont royal, but subway station is about 10-15 minutes walk…
"Hotel Plateau Royale - June 2011"
This is a hotel that should be considered only if no other hotel is available. The price is higher than 4/5 star hotels during the off season, and the direct area around the hotel is identified by gang tagging, adjacent open air bars (comments made to my wife as she passed by the bar), and a tremendous amount of durg and pot use in the parks next to […] the hotel. I stayed in this hotel only because all other hotels in Montreal were booked due to the Montreal Grand Prix. There are great areas of Montreal within a very short distance from this hotel, however this hotel is on the edge. Staff were not consistent. Some great, some not helpfyul and border line rude. The day person during the week is a wonderful person, however on weekends it is not a good situation. Window air conditioner was small, is poor shape, and surrounded by a cutout rubberized curtain. Doors were weak, carpet filthy, and TV was very small and in poor repair. I cannot recommend this hotel. Find a 4 or 5 star hotel closer to downtown, pay the same amount of money. and walk on thie hotel. Read more
"Hotel Plateau Royale"
This location is very good if you want an affordable hotel in the Plateau neighborhood. Within easy walking distance are good restaurants, esp St. Lauriain.. Blvd St Laurent is 5 minutes walk away and bus route 55 is very convenient. Metro is a bit further away. The room was quiet, king size bed, and the staff was friendly and helpful. However, the […] furnishings are dated, and you must be prepared to climb steps with your luggage. The hotel has wireless routers for each floor, however, the wireless internet service did not penetrate to my second floor room well, i had to go to the small entrance area to access web. Nonetheless, I would return to this hotel for friendliness of staff, location and price! Read more
"Over-priced 2 star"
Location = 6 minutes to downtown by cab, 15 minutes by car to old Montreal. Convenient Pricing = over-priced for the quality of the room, it was circa 1980 Hotel = desperately in need of a renovation of the rooms, the queen beds were of the lowest comfort. The breakfast was awful - the bread had to be replaced because it was moldy!!! However, the staff […] were friendly and apologetic, resolving the matter promptly. Parking - biggest pain, street parking is a nightmare, you and 30 other guests vying for the 5 spots on the street. $52 ticket if you overstay your welcome! Overall - hotels.com should delist this establishment, for what I paid I expected better. I would have been better served in a hostel! Next trip to Montreal I will book the $$$ hotel in the core for a better experience. Read more
"There three days on business."
As many others have written, the hotel offers basic accomodations but for the price, it was great. Staff was pleasant and very friendly. Parked outside on the street after 9 pm right outside the door of the hotel. Hotel is not frills but if you are just looking for a place to sleep while you are traveling, it is perfect.
"Hotel Plateau Royale - my new favorite hotel"
I finally found a quiet, clean, friendly & affordable hotel in a great neighborhood. Located right in the Mile End/Mont Royal area and a short stop from downtown. Up until now I haven't found a hotel that matched the pictures online. This one exceeded my expectations. Walking distance from shopping, bars, clubs, cafes, restaurants on St Laurent & Mont […] Royal. Right by the Parc du Mont Royal. Read more
"No-frills bargain"
The location is great -- close to Mount Royal, the Plateau, and the wonderful Montreal bagel shops. It's not a hotel for people who want luxury. Our room was plain, and it was on the fifth floor (no elevator). The "breakfast" was minimal. But service was terrific and the price was right.

"The Hotl Plateau Royal"
The manager was very helpful and accommodating. The internet has interferences We liked this hotel
"Not luxurious, but cheap and rather nice"
Relatively close to a metro station and is surrounded by a lot of shops and restaurants. The park across the street is nice. Accomodations are comfortable, clean, and it's great if you're traveling on a budget.
My room was downstairs and incredibly musty. My allergies were out of control by the time I left.

"Plateau Royal Hotel"
This is the second time I stayed at this hotel. I am satisfied with this hotel.
"Hotel Plateau Royale"
No lift at this hotel, had to carry heavy suitcases up to the fifth floor room, no tea or coffee facilities provided in the room. No coffee machine provided in the reception area Room clean but very basic

We encountered 3 problems with this hotel; all minor. Room needed more lighting and had a broken chair. Hotel has no elevator (which we knew about ahead of time). The beds were comfortable and the room opened to the back thus was quiet. Montreal is a very expensive city so one can not expect too much at the price of this hotel. We would probably stay […] there again because of its location and price. The staff was very friendly and the comp breakfast was as good as most economy hotels. Read more
"Mediocre Hotel"
Perhaps rooms are very expensive in Montreal, but, it seemed over priced, parking is $20/night and on-street parking is difficult at best. The room had a window air-conditioner. Fortunately, it was cool and not in the 80's or it never would have sufficed !
"A Montreal Gem"
Great little place in downtown Montreal. Rooms are big and comfortable, reception is very nice, and prices are solid. Highly recommended. I'll definitely be staying here on my future trips into town.
"Hotel Stay"
We were very satisfied with the hotel service and personel. There is no elevator in a 5 story building so choose your floor if you can.
"Great Location, Great Price"
The only bad thing to say about this hotel is that there was a leak in the roof in the shower and the air conditioning unit was a bit too small to cool down such a large space. Hotel located across the street from a gorgeous park and a Bixi bike rental station and within minutes from Schwartz's deli and other restaurants and stores. Would recommend […] to people travelling on a budget. Read more
"Good value"
This hotel may not be beautiful, but it's an excellent value for its location. It's easy to reach from either the bus or the metro. As an added plus, breakfast and internet were free. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to visit Montreal on a budget.
"Not fancy, but exactly what I needed"
The room was small and barren, without many staples of fancier hotels. There was no clock, but otherwise, I could live without a minifridge, ice bucket, etc. The room was extremely clean, the bed was firm, clean and comfortable, and although there was no view from the window, it did not matter. I am the sort of traveller that uses the room only for […] sleeping - so the room fit me perfectly. Some things to keep in mind, there is no elevator, and the room phone is not what you are used to seeing in hotels but works just fine. The interior of the building was very shabby, but if you can handle that, it's worth it. Also, it's right across from Mont Royal Park, and the mountain is totally worth the climb. Overall, I would absolutely recommend this to anyone that wanted to tour Montreal. Enjoy! Read more

"Pleasant stay despite parking issues"
The staff was helpful and friendly. There is 15-minute parking available in the two spaces immediately in front of the hotel. We recommend using those spaces during registration even if you have to circle the block until they are clear. Parking is on the street and is payable by cash or card during the day, free at night. Many side streets restrict […] parking to local residents. Look for the signs--they may not always be right next to the space. The parking police are diligent and swift. Read more
"Decent"
It is a little outside of the main city of Montreal, so you do have to make a 10 min walk into town. There is a great park nearby where you can ride bikes. The rooms are decent - supplies all the minimal essentials for a hotel. Split between 2 people, it's relatively inexpensive.
"Ok hotel."
The room was clean and I have no complaints there. There weren't as many towels as I would have liked in the bathroom and we came back to the hotel at 3 in the morning to find the staff painting the walls, which was a little odd. The location was great, but if you're going on St. Laurent or in the St. Denis area, it's better to get something closer […] to that area than this hotel. Read more
"Plateau Royale Montreal"
Seems like a dump but very comfortable beds with impeccably clean sheets. You get what you pay for.
Good service, clean and quite comfortable. But you can here every single noise from the hole building in your room and wi-fi was terrible. Besides breakfast was very poor.
"Blood stains"
I was appalled when I saw dry blood stains on the bathroom door and walls.. I mean come on really? That's unsanitary and unhealthy. The continental breakfast was less than satisfactory... Toast, coffee only and a selection of two cereals..
"Good service and room for the price."
Front desk was very friendly and helpful. Cont breakfast was not good with no fruit at all. Room wasn't very clean-found someone else's socks under bed and garbage in the drawer. Good walking distance to some things. Nearest subway is about a ten min walk. NO PARKING
"Plateau Royale is a Solid Value for Seniors"
This small, reasonably priced hotel is ideally situated for visiting Mont Royale Park, Latin Quarter and East McGill. 5 Storey building has no elevators so if you are unable to climb stairs, specify a lower level room. Patking is typically scarce and especially now that Parc Ave. is undergoing major construction. Many smaller hotels & B&Bs have a parking […] issue in Montreal. The staff is very helpfull and will assist with parking tips ... We spent only $5 on metered street parking for a 2 night visit. My wife and I have stayed here twice in the past 7 months, both times in the larger double queen rooms. Bed mattress is excllent for my back and linnens & towels are impecably clean white with lots of hot water. The continental breakfast is decent with plenty to eat but no eggs or OJ. Internet WI FI works like a charm. Read more
"cheap but clean hotel"
It's not easy to find parking places.
"Shabby but cosy."
The lobby of the hotel looked old and shabby, but we were given a warm welcome from the front desk staff person. Our room was clean and warm and large, with two queen-sized beds, but the furniture was old and shabby. The WiFi reception in the room was variable, and quit completely on our second-last day there, which happened to be the new year's day […] holiday, so no repairs could be done. But we were told that we could still get good WiFi reception in the lobby and downstairs in the breakfast room, which proved to be true. Front desk staff were always helpful whenever we needed anything (extra blanket, hairdryer). The Continental Breakfast was a bit skimpy, with cereal, muffins and bread, but they have a good toaster, butter and various jams. The hotel is convenient to downtown Montreal and to Parc Mont Royale. Overall we were satisfied with the hotel for a short-term stay, and it offers good value for a Montreal hotel. Read more
