Sucesso a vocês.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

the best part of this hotel was that the staff spoke English which was very scarce in Brazil. The room were plush and comfortable enough and breakfast was just about sufficient. Also the hotel location was good having many restaurant around

I stayed here for 5 days - really liked it, very homely. The staff were excellent - very friendly and mostly spoke english and the concierge gave good recommendations for going out. The breakfast in the morning was excellent also - fresh fruit and juices. Would definetely recommend this if staying in Sao Carlos
"Nice hotel in the center"

Hotel is located in the center, 5min away from the bus station. Rooms are fine, but have already seen a couple of years of use. Breakfast is also fine. Staff speaks English. TV has many channels, also in English.
"friendly hotel with all one needs"

I agree with previous posters that this is not a brand new smart hotel. However, the rooms are very clean, if dated and a little worn. The staff are great and the food is more than fine. Good wifi access in my room, and great caipinrinhas. I stay in a lot of hotels and this wasn't at all posh, but it was homely, and if I ever have the good fortune to be in Sao Carlos again I will choose to stay here.
"Nice hotel with character"

I was rather nervous about staying in this hotel having read some of the reviews. I do agree that the decor is a bit dated. However, to me that gave the hotel a very nice character. The room was clean and also pleasantly quiet compared to most hotels in Brazilian cities. Staff were very friendly and attentive. The lady at the hotel bar made a killer Caipirinha. The hotel has a nice Japanese restaurant which seemed popular (though I didn't eat there). There was a nice middle eastern restaurant a couple of blocks away with very good beer and food and local charm. Overall, this is a nice pleasant hotel if you are not looking for the generic North American hotel chain which looks the same in whichever city you may be. I would happily stay at the Anaca again when back in Sao Carlos.
"OK, but only just"

The good: The staff really try to welcome you and be helpful. The reception is modern and clean and the Japanese restaurant is excellent. Breakfast is good, probably better than I expected. The rooms are clean and my bathroom was reconditioned and ok The not so good: The rooms are outdated, stark, noisy and, damn it, just worn out. The rooms need a complete refit and somebody needs to spend some money above the lobby floor at this hotel before it get much worse. By choice, I will not stay here again.
"Noisy, Outdated, Overpriced"

The problem is that this is the only hotel option in downtown, and they know it, and they use it. Let's start with the positives: Service staff is mostly friendly, and the lobby is modern. BUT ... the rooms! First they look like they haven't been re-decorated for decades! The furniture is broken in various places, the carpet is filthy, the mattress is cheap, and the switches and outlets are dirty and so pre-historic looking you have to worry to get a shock when you touch them. But perhaps the worst is the noise: it is located at a busy street where at night cars and scooters love to rev their engines, but the windows have next to no noise insulation power. To help it, tried to run AC all night. That is, after we got it working, which required three different staff people trying. But then, the AC makes a very annoying loud clicking sound at irregular intervals a few dozen times per hour. And it goes on and on - STAY AWAY IF YOU CAN!
"Nice rooms, only a bit loud"

I absolutley can't agree with user "DeaStaedt". There are two lifts in the hotel, which is ok for 83 rooms. The stair is in between the two lifts and easy to find (the door has a sticker). I have a big mirror in my room and a normal mirror in the bathroom. The bathroom has a normal size. They have wireless LAN and also offer to give cables to the guests. The breakfast has different freshly squeezed juices, fresh fruits, cake, bread, etc. The service is very nice. The only negative thing is that it is very loud from the roadside but in my experiance this is normal in Brazilian Hotels. I can recommend the hotel.
"Much better stay at this hotel this time round"

There has been a makeover of the hotel restaurant since I last visited nearly a year ago and there is now a Japanese restaurant at night - and the food is quite good - really enjoyed the sushi and sashimi. I love being on the first floor so I can walk the stairs - but remember to press the light switch, otherwise it is very dark if the lights are not on! (Although there are two elevators, they are quite small, so I prefer to take the stairs so I do not need to wait for the elevator.) The service at the front desk was much better this time as well - available and helpful. Also, the windows open in this hotel which I enjoy, and they have a separate shampoo and conditioner in the toiletries which is different from my last visit. However, the beds still have the ridge down the middle of them (two single beds together) and just slept at one edge of the bed. The WiFi in the hotel worked much better this trip. All in all a much better experience - and have no hesitation recommending this hotel if you are in Sao Carlos. You can see my rating for the hotel went from a "2" to a "4". Still a 3* hotel - so no 4/5* star hotel experience, but then you are not paying for this level of service either. Remember Sao Carlos is a small town so everything, and I mean everything (including the pub around the corner) is closed on Sunday afternoons. There are great restaurants in the town but this time I ate at the hotel each night as needed to work late each evening - and as I indicated above, the Japanese restaurant was fine. Staff were very pleasant and courteous and the hotel is clean and safe - which are the important factors for me when I am travelling.

I have stayed at both the Ibis and the Anaca. There are not many choices in Sao Carlos. The Ibis has better rooms but the location is poor. The beds in the Anaca have a ridge down the middle and I never got one good's night sleep for the few days I was there. And the internet access at the Anaca is very hit and miss. The breakfast is quite poor at the Anaca, better at the Ibis. The gym at the Anaca is in the basement (and does not smell good), and the pool is tiny. BUT, for location, you cannot beat the Anaca - many, amny different and great variety of restaurants to walk to and convenient for getting out and doing a bit of shopping in the evening after work. It is a toss up between the two hotels. If the business trip is one or two days - stay at the Ibis. If for a longer period of time, stay at the Anaca.
