"Great safe and quiet neighborhood near waterfront"
We actually stayed at the "overflow" private property around the corner, for a much better experience than the hotel itself - wonderful family hosts, closed private home with parking, individual breakfast in our own kitchen, etc. - Glorious!

There is two big problems in there: Water which was very little three days on a row so we couldn't take showers and the second problem is noise, the doors are slamed all the time and in the morning it is quiet disturbing. Breakfast is very average and if you like american coffee like I do you'd better get it elswhere. One good point the personnel is very kind (except maybe the cleaning lady who seems pissed at us every morning because we get up late I guess, we couldn't figure why lol)

The Porto salvo is a mid range hotel set amongst very expensive hotels, creating a costly setting. It IS a beautiful setting. There is a bar on the main floor. Several younger patrons seemed to like the value setting. It is a 20 minute walk to the touristy Sorrento.

"Okay Place"
This was an okay experience. Everything about it was average or less, except for the service of a desk ckerk, which was outstanding. Breakfast was simple and so was the room. Nothing special jumps out. I should have stayed in Sorrento, rather than this place as it is a good 20 minute walk from the train station and Sorrento is where the action is! At this price, I could have reserved a better place in Sorrento. I would NOT recommend it.

"Good hotel for budget-minded travelers!"
Domus Porto Salvo is a wonderful inexpensive hotel but does have some limitations. When we stayed there in October 2012 our reservation for two rooms was confirmed with bathrooms in each room. However, when we arrived only one room was available with a bath. The other room had to use a hall bath. They did compensate us and did move us to a room with a bath on the third day of our six night stay, however. The rooms are clean, simple without air conditioning or fan (no thermostat that we saw) so we needed to open our windows for ventilation. We woke every morning to smell someone burning trash so we had to decide on whether to sleep with the windows closed and be hot, or to keep the windows open and smell burning in the AM. Other than this, I have no other complaints. The staff is very helpful and the complimentary breakfast is simple. I would have liked some fruit and good bread, but the cereal, coffee and juice was fine. The location is close to the water and beautiful views are within a block of the hotel. Be ready to walk into Sorrento (a 20+minute walk) or to the train/bus station. I feel that the hotel met my expectations considering the amount of money we paid for the room.

"You get what you pay for"
I booked at hotel purple and wished I hadn't. Now I understand why there's no refunds or cancellations. The place was old and run down. One staff member was nice but the rest can't be bothered acknowledging you unless you speak first. Roomed was cleaned daily. Shared bathroom was average. Shower pooled over your feet and floods rest of bathroom. Mould and grime in shower. If you're lucky enough to get hot water it takes ages to come through. No hand towel to dry your hands with in bathroom but they'll supply one drinking cup if your game enough to share with random guests! Gross. Tiles in the hallway are broken and lifting and you're likely to stub your toe if your not watching. Breakfast was very average, they don't like to fill too much up, often you have to ask for more food. They don't like you using the air con they've even covered them with shelves - it get switched on at night and turned off at random times in the morning between 7 and 10am so they basically want you to leave the room. There's a club across the road often plays music until late. Mornings are very noisy. The restaurant I didn't eat at, only saw one couple eating there the whole time. It's about a 30 minute walk to Sorrento central and add another 10 minutes if you want Sorrento port. The views are great around the area, that's about all. I hesitated booking here after reading the mixed reviews but gave it a shot but I wouldnt book here again.

"Friendly hotel, great location"
I stayed here with my son for 7 nights in January 2015. Formerly a convent, the building has lots of character. Our room had stunning views across the Bay of Naples. It was clean, comfortable and had en-suite facilities. Breakfast was a self-service buffet. With choice of cereal, toast, croissants, briocchi and fresh fruit. The bar area was bright and clean, and opened onto the garden. It was well stocked with good choice. The hotel does have more of the feeling of a hostel. Suited to students or travellers rather than families. The building is stone, marble and has high ceilings which although charming also means it can be a little noisy, but not unbearably so. I would certainly stay there again.

"Incredible views from our room!"
Comfy bed, very clean linen, powerful shower and lots of hot water. Breakfast was a bit disappointing, but that wasn't a big deal. Make sure you rinse the kettle out before using...it was very dirty inside. Friday night's are party/disco nights, so that was really loud until midnight. I would definitely go back there as it was ideally located to the beach and the town and very good value for money.

This hotel is characterful with beautiful grounds and a marvellous location with some rooms having views over the Bay of Naples. In that respect you get a lot for your money in this budget hotel. The hotel staff are lovely. On the downside, in the summer the rooms are hot without air conditioning and it would be good to have fresher looking bedding. And bring your anti mosquito spray.

Personal.

"DO NOT GO HERE!!!"
07/19/15 Laurann O Nottingham, United Kingdom
Terrible experience, they over booked my room, they then tried to send me to a nunnary miles outside sorrento in a dirty town (assuring me that breakfast included), the owner is so rude, after refusing this 'alternative accommodation' they put me in an almost air b&b across the road, infested with ants. After giving me a bed here I came back with all my belongings moved and additional beds put in with no notice. I saw them checking in people after me despite telling me this was booked out. So upsetting, this place is not as advertised, so many more beautiful places I could have booked. Treated so badly and upset. Please avoid this place if you want a good holiday they just want money and do not care about their guests. The choice is up to you!!

This hostel (not a B&B) is in a fantastic location, but the accommodation itself is very average. The rooms are relatively clean and basic, but the shared bathroom is not clean and the breakfast is very poor. The only saving grace for this hostel is that you can walk out the front door and ten steps later there is a million dollar view. Unfortunately the air-conditioning wasn't working while we were there but they managed to put us in a larger room to compensate. Also, there is no pool. Apparently they are seeking some kind of council approval. Pretty sure the photo on their website is of a neighbouring pool. The staff were nice enough but they clearly lied on several occasions and I do not get the impression that they care about their guests or their business. Sant'agnello itself is a lovely area. If you don't feel like going into Sorrento (which is very touristy), Sant'agnello has some nice cafes and restaurants. It is a 25 minute walk into Sorrento from the hostel. I would not recommend staying here, even if you are on a budget.

Private parking on arrival - very useful! The lady that checked us in seemed rather scatty and wasn't sure what she was doing - but was very friendly and helpful. Room was not as purple as expected, in fact, most of the colour scheme was pink and magenta. Room was adequate and clean, yet very old fashioned. Bathroom fan sounded more like a Lear Jet landing on an aircraft carrier. Room could have used air con, as it was a noisy neighbourhood at night with the windows open. We were lazy and ate here, set menu was fresh, home cooked and decent - inexpensive eating. Breakfast was not as advertised! The "home cooked pastries and cakes" were shop bought Swiss Rolls and prepackaged croissants. The orange juice "straight from the citrus in the garden" tasted more like Tesco Value weak orange squash. Overall a fair visit, and cheap for Sorrento!

Porto Salvo is an old monastery/convent converted to an inn. It is about a 10 min walk from the Sant'Agnello train station. The inn has bikes that you can rent (at least it did when we visited), and you can walk down to the beach. The city is very pretty in the month of May and early June with blooming flowers everywhere you look. There is a bus to go to Amalfi and Positano from here. Pompeii is also close.

"superb location, friendly, value for money"
01/16/15 bri c Dartford, United Kingdom
I stayed at the Porto Salvo with my son for a week in January. We wanted to be close to Naples as we were there to see Napoli v Juventus and I didn't want to stay in the city centre. The building is historic, a former convent which means it has real character. We were given a friendly welcome, offered advice regarding the local area, transport links and local bars & restaurants. We were given room 4, which has wonderful views across the Bay of Naples. The room was basic but had en-suite facilities of bathroom and shower, was cleaned daily and was comfortable. The hotel caters mainly towards students, at least that was the case when we were there; and certainly has the feel of a hostal about it. I didn't have the chance to see other rooms but I know there were those which had to use separate bathroom facilities. As this is an old building, it is stone and marble with high ceilings which means noise does travel, although we didn't have any major problems with sleep. Breakfast is a self-service buffet; a choice of cereal, toast, croissants, briocchi and fresh fruit. Tea, coffee and fruit juice. The bar area is bright and new. Titled the Purple Sorrento, it has a cocktail style bar which opens into the gardens. There is also private off-street parking with electronic gates. The key question..would I stay here again? A definate yes.

we had a very pleasant stay, all the staff were extremely friendly. We were lucky to be upgraded to a room with a private bathroom and although breakfast wasnt very adequate as almost everything was gone 30mins after it started. No complaints. Everything was clean, and all the staff were really good. The chef was really sweet and cooked us a one of the best pasta we had during our 2 week trip to italy

"Atmospheric building well located for visits to Pompeii & Sorrento."

This is a former convent thus rooms & corridors reflect this & to me that was delightful. We were lucky & got a limited but wonderful sea view however under that very window was a badly damaged I guess electric fire which luckily we didn't require. Breakfast wasn't very good but adequate. The barman "Jon" who seemed to have 10 jobs & did virtually all tasks whilst girls did much less ... he was a very kind delightful guy! Frankly for what we paid I think eben with a few drawbacks this was a good value historic & well-situated hotel.

"Fantastic View"
09/05/14 travellerinsurrey Surrey
Because I read the reviews before going I knew what to ask for with regard to rooms and I insisted on a room with a sea view and got exactly that apart from a big tree obscuring the view which really needs cutting back. Because of that view it made up for any other shortcomings, of which there are a number. The good points: the view we were lucky to have - we were in room 1 and we had french windows which opened out. Having our own bathroom and both were kept very clean. The location is good although could do with a nearby good bus service into Sorrento rather than having to walk. We opted to walk to the station which wasn't too bad and quite nice along the way and which led us to a pizza cafe where we had the best pizza we ever had - I think it was called Joe's, its near to the station. The bad points: appalling beds. Breakfast was ok, disgusting coffee in an urn, the coffee maker in the kitchen was broken so no alternative to that. Luckily there was a great cafe not far overlooking the sea where we spent most of our mornings. Pastry was fresh but they seemed to run out of those quickly. The noise at times (room walls extremely thin), banging doors at night. Basically, this is a hostel used by young people so bear that in mind. All in all, the view made up for it. Found some great restaurants, not too expensive.

We initially booked 2 nights here for a visit to Sorrento. It's a bit of a walk to the center, but it's a very nice walk. We enjoyed Sorrento so much I think we ended up staying 4 nights. Each morning, we'd go to the desk and ask for one more night. Luckily it was not busy season so we were able to do that. Our room did not have an ocean view, but it was still nice. We spent a couple nights playing card games in the common room downstairs and one night at a bar just around the corner. I wouldn't recommend eating here though.

"Budget accomodation for budget travel."
08/17/14 ripcurlgrl Bangkok
I stayed here with a friend who had a very tight budget. I have stayed in numerous hostels are various quality so i wasnt expecting much. The accomodation itself is great and in a fine location about 20mins walk from sorreno centre, the sant agnello train station is about a 10 minute walk...it seems more with a suitcase! The breakfast is fine, basic coffee, juice, pastries, the small pool is good if you fancy a dip at the end of the day. I stayed in a shared dorm room and sadly that is where the problem was. There is no air conditioning and it is very hot this time of year, there are also only very this net curtains so all the light fills the room from outdoors, the room was also full of mosquitos and I left covered in bites. The other residents of the dorm room were extremely disrespectful regarding their noise and ise of the space, they seemed fine to spread their luggage all over the room and other beds. The hostel needs some signs regarding behaviour and expectations of those staying as this was the main let down of the stay really. Fine place on a budget.
