This was an okay experience. Everything about it was average or less, except for the service of a desk ckerk, which was outstanding. Breakfast was simple and so was the room. Nothing special jumps out. I should have stayed in Sorrento, rather than this place as it is a good 20 minute walk from the train station and Sorrento is where the action is! "Good hotel for budget-minded travelers!"
Domus Porto Salvo is a wonderful inexpensive hotel but does have some limitations. When we stayed there in October 2012 our reservation for two rooms was confirmed with bathrooms in each room. However, when we arrived only one room was available with a bath. The other room had to use a hall bath. They did compensate us and did move us to a room with […] a bath on the third day of our six night stay, however. The rooms are clean, simple without air conditioning or fan (no thermostat that we saw) so we needed to open our windows for ventilation. We woke every morning to smell someone burning trash so we had to decide on whether to sleep with the windows closed and be hot, or to keep the windows open and smell burning in the AM. Other than this, I have no other complaints. The staff is very helpful and the complimentary breakfast is simple. I would have liked some fruit and good bread, but the cereal, coffee and juice was fine. The location is close to the water and beautiful views are within a block of the hotel. Be ready to walk into Sorrento (a 20+minute walk) or to the train/bus station. I feel that the hotel met my expectations considering the amount of money we paid for the room. Stay in the center of Sorrento. It takes 2o min from the train station to get to the hotel. The rooms are super basic. Most rooms dont have their own bathroom and you have to go and use the shared bathroom. There is no phone in the room and no shampoo. There is not enough buses from the hotel to take you to Sorrento. "OK Place to Lay Your Head, Provided . . ."
This hotel offers very basic accommodations: rooms are tiny, bathrooms are shared (and are few, considering the number of rooms, so you may well end up waiting either for a shower or the less glorious bathroom activities). On the plus side, most of the staff speaks English quite well and all are friendly and helpful. The hotel is an old concrete building […] with nothing to stop the echoes of voices and footseps, or to diminish the reverberations of closing doors, so it can be a noisy place: this is entirely dependent on who happens to be staying there at the time, and of how respectful (or not) they are of other guests. The location itself is not a “destination,” but is a decent place for accessing tourist destinations such as Sorrento or the Amalfi coast (provided that the road isn't closed due to construction, as it was the entire time we were here). Also, within Sant Agnello and near to the hotel are some fun sites, spectacular views, and public walkways/caves leading down to the shore, where there aren't any beaches but there are some nice swimming holes. If you like to spend your getaways in the hotel, this place is not for you. If you're looking for a place to store you stuff while you're out-and-about then lay your head at night, it's a decent option (but note: there are many options in this area) Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Great location. We were they in the off season, so finding a place to eat was a bit trying but easy walk to lots of places. Plain rooms but clean. We had a room with an internal bathroom and worked great for a relaxing place. We ended up with a great view of the bay. Typical European shower, wouldn't recommend to a large person.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
we had to get a cab at 530 in am to catch a bus for Rome;If we have stayed in Sollerno, then a short walk would have been ok at that time of the morning. "Domus Porto Salvo in Sant'Agnello, near Sorrento"
I chose this hotel for three nights to experience the coast as well as for a base camp to visit Pompeii/Vesuvius and Capri. A former monastery, the hotel on the outside has a quaint secluded feeling (garden terrace with tables) but on the inside feels a bit institutional (not in a bad way). There are common areas (and even a bar) where we saw several […] people playing board games and hanging out. There are two computers for general use and the front desk was helpful with figuring out bus directions to Sorrento, etc. The location was ideal (one drawback in that it was a bit of a walk from the train station with our bags but without bags it was lovely). We took the same train (it's the local Circumvesuvia line which runs from Naples to Sorrento) to get straight to Pompei. The town itself has all the shops you would need and it's about a twenty minute walk to Sorrento (we chose to walk rather than take the bus). From Sorrento you can catch boats to Capri/Naples/etc. Best of all, is that the location is one house back from the coast (cliff) so you can watch beautiful sunsets and two blocks down is the path down to the free beach (there's also a pay beach if you feel like being fancy and having a chair) where you can lounge in the Mediterranean and take in all the beautiful coastal scenery. Sant'Agnello is a much quainter town with many fewer tourists than Sorrento but still accessible to Sorrento. Would definitely stay here again if I return to the region. The staff were extremely helpful and very friendly which helped make our stay memorable. Great location with stunning views. I've spent my birthday 3 times in this hotel now and the reason I keep going back is because it's brilliant. Rustic, simple, clean, the location is great, the price is incredible, and the staff are wonderful. I can't say enough good things about Porto Salvo to be honest!Genuine Expedia guest review
This hotel is characterful with beautiful grounds and a marvellous location with some rooms having views over the Bay of Naples. In that respect you get a lot for your money in this budget hotel. We had a great stay at Porto Salvo - the hotel was clean and cool even though we had really hot weather. "Looks good on web but not in reality"
1st impression was good, but as the days passed by lots of little thing came to the fore. No matter what time you go down for breakfast there is always slim pickings, this wasn't helped by the 4 Thai girls who took bread, pastries etc, and even topped up their flasks and stuffed it all in the backpacks to save cash on lunch. The mattresses are rock […] hard, and although we had a nice view from the window (room 6) the private bathroom was an annoyance, especially with late night loo trips. The bar was a disappointment as they had lost the key to the spirits cabinet, this meant you had the option of beer or water. The outside courtyard is awful, untidy garden area and the sun loungers are dirty, mouldy and full of dead leaves absolutely no daily maintenance... very uninviting. The staff are helpful (if you're lucky enough to have one of the girls on duty, the guys...well everything seems a bit of a chore for them). The cleaning staff from Sri Lanka were great, happy to chat and very polite. Basically this B&B tries to punch above it's weight with regards to services and should stick to getting the basics right first. Oh and on reading the guest book on departure one guest reported having €50 stolen so beware as it's a place people could just come and wander round in and no one would be any the wiser! Got plenty of help, friendly people, good breakfast, garden, close to 2 very nice restaurants, 1 small closeby and about 15-30 mins walk to Sorrento centre (close to a bus stop and quite close to train station). Only things I can complain about are that there is no A/C (so you need to choose between a hot quiet room or a […] colder noisy room), small room and the service around the breakfast could be better. A relaxing place with a character (as a former monastery), certainly far superior to the numerous other Sorrento hotels, apartment block like, of the same tourist category. Room had a nice view but that was it. A bad smell and no curtains. It was also quite noisy at night because young people were running and screaming in the corridors until after midnight. Breakfast was poor. The lady at the reception was friendly but most of the time there was no one there. I would not recommend this place to anyone. "Don't stay there! - Description online gives Wrong Impressions"
03/26/14 Fe L Minori, Italy
We were looking for a nice and decent place to stay in Sorrent. We have found this hotel on tripadvisor and it promised a very nice room with a perfect location for a very affordable price. We also found other lovely hotels at much higher rates. Due to the special rate given at this date (35€) we have decided to go for Porto Salvo. After our experience I can say the only good thing is the location. We CANNOT recommend this place at all. The pictures online give absolutely wrong impressions. Nothing was as shown in the pictures. Our room was only 8-10m² with one little window. It was not the room with two windows and wide space shown in the pictures. The whole building is quite cold. We have stayed there over March and we needed the heater, but the heater did not work. The breakfast was not needed. It is only sweet stuff and toast. In case you are used to sweet breakfast I think you can live with that. The worst thing in our opinion were the beds. These are a real impertinence. I guess they are the cheapest pallets from IKEA. The mattresses were bending all the way down to the floor. We stayed there for three nights and both of us got heavy headaches after the first night. I think it is extremely unfair to give the rooms wrong pictures. If I would have seen the real room in the first place I would have rather booked a hotel, which is 3 times more expensive. Unfortunately, during our stay there we were too tired to really complain due to our headaches. In the end I didn't want to be mean and only write this bad review. So I have asked the staff for a 20€ discount to at least compensate for something. But there was no chance to get anything for it.

"It's good if you know what you are getting into."
First room we had was a small box, with no working AC and the window only opened half way (oh and the light switch didn't work! Had to walk over to the lamp every time) It was deadly. We then complained a couple times and finally got a second room which was a little bigger and we were much happier with. But it had two ac's and the only one that did work was too far. First night was so hot I couldn't sleep till 3. By the second night the room had cooled down thanks to the working ac and we were much much more comfortable. If we were given the second room in the first place I would have given it a higher rating. Breakfast was great, location was pretty. I think the listing says it has ocean view which is not true. But the hotel is very close to a nice view point of the coast. It was about 20 minute walk to the train which was a little drag but we dealt with it as we were prepared for that. Only reason why I didn't give it 5 for cleanliness was because the shared bathroom was nasty! The shower was ok (hot water and decent pressure but not the cleanest) the worst part was that the sink didn't work! So no one washed their hands after using the toilet! When I asked if there is a second bathroom with a working sink, receptionist said the sink does work. I said no the handle is broken. She said no the sink in your bedroom. Lol. Everytime I used the bathroom I showered after and then washed my hand again when I went back to the room. Overall for last minute booking At $45 a night plus tax, it was alright. I have definitely stayed at worse in Italy ( ones with no hot water or not as clean in the room) Advice: Book through their website it is the cheapest! Ask for room 11!!
"Don't Stay Here"
08/23/13 jdbellissimo Vancouver, Canada
Where to start? Our entire stay at this location was terrible. When we checked in we were "greeted" by a young girl. While I admit my Italian isn't amazing by any standards the girl seemed annoyed at my attempt at Italian. She seemed as though we were bothering her by checking in. We booked through hostelworld.com. We booked one room with two people, private. When we checked in we were given a shared bedroom in the hostel part of this "hotel". Luckily I had the confirmation of our reservation. The girl seemed to be doubly annoyed that she had to show us another room. The girl did not tell us any information - what time breakfast is, if there was internet, if we could bring food into the hostel, etc. We were showed another room where two cots were pushed together to create a double bed. The cots were extremely uncomfortable. You can feel every wire through the thin mattress. We found hairs in our bed which could not belong to us because the hair was long and our hair was short. The room that was showed on hostelworld.com was a spacious room. The room that we were given, however, could barely fit both of us and our suitcases. We would have to stand up one at a time to get ready. The rooms were very dusty. The bathroom was listed as a shared bathroom on the website. I have stayed at other hostels and B&Bs with shared bathrooms however there was never any problems with a shared bathroom. At Porto Salvo there is one bathroom for a long hallway of rooms. There were problems with getting into the bathroom because of ques. The bathroom was always dirty. The shower was always blocked up and it turned into a bathtub whenever I tried to shower. There were never any mats for the shower and so the bathroom floor was frequently wet. The service at the hostel was terrible and confusing at best. The breakfast, which we ended up finding out what time it was at, was not very good. There seemed to be a divide between those who can speak Italian and those who couldn't. The food which was offered for breakfast included: tea that tasted like dirty water, croissants, bread (if you're lucky), juice, something in a slushy machine that we could never figure out what it was, nutella, and melba toast for the nutella. There seemed to be some people in the breakfast place who were fluent in Italian and they had other breakfast options. They had items such as yogurt and espresso. The physical location of the hostel was 30-40 minute walk to Sorrento. The website advertises a 15-20 minute walk into Sorrento and this is incorrect. We were never shown a map to get into town so it took us a day or two to find the fastest walk into town which was still around 30-40 minute walk. When we were leaving Porto Salvo we had a dispute about the bill. When we booked the advertisement showed that the tax was included in the price of our stay. Porto Salvo did not honor this and we were told that the tax which was mentioned was the "reservation tax". I honestly do not believe that this is such as thing as a reservation tax. We ended up paying the extra city tax. I noticed a poster below that descried how they researched the city tax and it is supposed to be 1-2 euro per night and we were charged more than that. All-in-all I would never return to this place.
"The worst experience ever!"
08/19/13 David H Maribor, Slovenia
I had my share of travels but nowhere did I have so many problems as here. We booked 2 room for 2 people in single booking, but because “we didn't make separate bookings”, they gave us 1 room for 4 people and insisted that the mistake was made on our end. On the website where we booked our rooms, they were advertised by having 24-hour reception and nobody told us otherwise. So when me and my girlfriend went out in the evening, we left the one key they gave all four of us with our friends. They had to stay up for 3 hours and waited for us at the yard, because the manager locked the doors to the hostel at 10 p.m. The next afternoon one of the joined beds broke when my friend sat on it, and the response from manager was: “Nobody can come today to fix it. We can bring in a single bed or you can try to fix it.” There were more problems, but others I could overlook if it weren't for those listed above... I must say, that the place by itself is quite nice, but the staff hardly tries to make your stay a pleasant one...
We recently stayed in this 'hotel' I would not recommend to anybody. There is nobody on reception to check in/out. The room was awful with no light in the room and very dirty! If u go back late ish they lock you out so we had to climb over a 8ft gate to get back in! The breakfast was disgusting I wouldnt even give it to my dog! There is no air conditioning and in over 30º heat its horrible! I dont think there is anything nice I can say about this hotel it is scary and I will never go back!!
"Budget option. If you can afford to, stay somewhere else."
A good budget option as its within walking distance of Sorrento and Sant' Agnello and an ok base for participating in day trips to Capri and Pompei. If you can afford to, stay somewhere else. The bathroom floor was revolting as it was forever covered with a layer of water. The cause which we could never discover. Although we payed for a private room, one of the bedroom walls did not reach the ceiling ensuring we could hear people walking past the walkway. Our bedroom light was also in the walkway.

This hotel is fine if your on a very tight budget, however we were on a large corridor with one bathroom which meant there was always a queue which was annoying. The rooms had no lights that worked and the plugs were hanging of the walls. It was very noisy and you could hear people making strange noises all night. It was quite creepy though because it was always empty and you never bumped into anyone. The beach nearby is not a beach its is concrete unless you can pay for the private section. The breakfast is poor with a strange selection of food. The restaurant nearby are good!
"meh, I would stay somewhere else next time"
06/02/13 materialgirl719 Corvallis, Oregon
This place is fine if you are on a budget, have a car, are a very sound sleeper and don't need reliable internet. If you are not all of these things I would look somewhere else (perhaps the Ulisse Deluxe hostel that rents private rooms too). The place is quite far from Sorrento and the hike to town gets old after a couple days. If you have a car, they have a private parking lot. The doors on the room slam shut and it is very loud, even when you are trying to close them quietly. The internet quality was poor and unreliable, and they turn it off at night. Breakfast is very simple, cold cereal and croissants. That being said, I got a private, double room with a shared bathroom for $50/night. It was definitely cheaper than anywhere else in town. If I had to do it again, I would just stay at the hostel in town.
