For t hr price it was a great place. It was, however, very hard to find where we had to check in. You have to go up a staircase that isn't marked for the hotel. And if you get there after 5pm you have to go to the restaurant and ask to be checked in. Also, the front door didn't lock and the room keys were kept out in a little box so anyone could get […] into any room. Didn't make me feel safe leaving anything important there. Also, not that I think this will happen again, the woman who was cleaning our room threw out our laundry...she said she thought we didn't need it anymore. I could not be happier with my choice here. This hotel far exceed my last trip to naples when I stayed in piazza garibaldi. Not only the location but the hotel as well. The location is quite central to where you want to be if you wish to see the city, and only a few minutes walk from via toledo, via tribunali and spaccanapoli. Our rooms exceeded my expectations based on the price and relatively late booking. The rooms were good sized with modern bathrooms. The hotel reception desk/office was difficult to find, but once that hurdle was cleared we were treated very well. La Locanda actually occupies a portion of a large building, which is a common thing in Italian cities. Our […] rooms in Rome worked the same way. Still, a little bit of signage would go a long way. We received a 20% discount at restaurant associated with the hotel, LaTana ell Arte, which was excellent and worth a visit on its own merit. Julia speaks good English so ask her for her recommendations for city sights. In fact she had a ready-made hand out on file to give us. I imagine she could e-mail it to you ahead of time. Naples is gritty at first sight but we never ever felt unsafe. I think comments to the contrary are overblown. While the location is not bad, but I would reccommend staying near the main train station IF you plan to use Naples as a base from which to travel. However, the hotel is just one easy one Metro stop (Cavor or Metro) away from the main train station. It is only a couple blocks from the Archeological Museum. The museum is well worth seeing. I feel that I got lucky when I booked this hotel. If you've been to Napoli, then you've probably told your friends to not bother going only to shake your head and laugh when they do. As you walk through the moped shop to the stairs, you'll be thinking to yourself "oh great, i'm going to be sleeping on a stained mattress on the floor somewhere". Which is understandable since you most likely just survived one of the most harrowing drives of you life. But fear not...you'll go up two flights and see the majestic double doors of an ACTUAL hotel. Since I planned an extended stay in Naples I was looking for a hotel room in which it would be comfortable to work on my computer. My room at the Locanda dell'Arte included a desk with chair and a nice strong wifi signal so I was able to work easily. And the central location of the hotel puts virtually all of Naples within a 30 minute walk. However, not only was there noise coming from outside -traffic, horns (which perhaps isn't the B&Bs fault) but there was a lot of noise coming from inside. Hotel Service: Actually the hotel staff was nice but they were not around in the evening and night. We notified them of a late arrival and somebody was there. But then there was no soap and nobody to talk to till the morning. They also had a computer in the hall way so we could do web based email. Perhaps had we talked to the manger about this we could have solved the problem but we were busy touring during the day and did not want to waste time. He was very nice and helpful with other requests. Our room was pleasant but not modern. Bathroom was simple but clean. Perhaps most important, despite the bad reputation of Naples, we felt safe in the hotel. The main balcony – window had double doors so we did not have a problem with street noise. The elevator was ‘exotic’ but it worked. This was August and the Air-Cond. worked fine. Hotel has a restaurant downstairs that was good and reasonably priced. Breakfast was juice, coffee/tea and roll anything more was extra. Room price was right and the location excellent. My wife & I would stay there again. I gave this an overall 4 because despite the age of the place, the crazy elevator, and hidden front entrance. Pure joy. The hotel is situated near the city centre just between two Metro stations and in a walking distance from many historical parts and even the seafront. The entrance from a busy main street is pretty grotty but if you overcome the urge to turn around and run away screaming, there's a very nice surprise in store...the hotel itself has nothing […] to do with the filthy and dodgy looking passageway (which is, after all, perfectly safe as all the doors are heavily locked). You may have to ring a bell and wait for the receptionist to come and pick you up, then she takes you two storeys up and you're in a completely different world. The reception looks fairly posh, it is clean and tastefully decorated and, when entering your room you won't believe your eyes what you can get for such a cheap price. The room was very spacious with a beautiful balcony door overlooking a quiet back street with nice restaurants and banana trees. Don't leave the doors open at night because the neighborhood is noisy and the air-conditioning works wonders, even in very hot weather.The en-suite bathroom look as good as the room - immaculately clean and spacious, with a huge illuminated mirror, massive sink, glass shelving and all. The shower cubicle is fairly small, though, and if, like me, you're a bigger person, you will only just fit in. Don't panic if the hot water doesn't start running immediatelly - it takes a minute or so. Breakfast is served at the ground floor restaurant and consists of a huge croissant with a filling of your choice (all are fantastic) a selection of hot and cold drinks, biscuits, jam and butter. You also get a 20% discount for everything else but if you, like us, go there first in the evening for a drink and the staff don't know you yet you need to say that you're a hotel guest, provide your room number and maybe show them your hotel room key; if you don't do that, the staff are a bit hostile and may even try to rip you off. ON ARRIVAL WE COULD NOT FIND THE DOOR TO THE HOTEL, BUT A PASSING LOCAL COUPLE DIRECTED US AND IT WAS IN FACT A FEW METRES AWAY. Ci è stata consegnata la camera dopo un altro quarto d'ora. La camera era pulita ma il letto si trovava su un soppalco a cui si accedeva con una scala in ferro molto ripida e scomoda: inoltre il letto era incuneato […] in un muro da cui distava circa 10-15 cm per parte: inutile dire che tali stanze non ci sembra rispettino gli standard minimi per rendere un soggiorno confortevole. We were staying in Naples for 4 days and wanted an inexpensive hotel with just the basic amenities, since we would be away most of the day. We chose this for its location near the old part of Naples. Arriving from Rome by train we took a taxi from the station and was "robbed" - 40 euro for a 1½ mile trip! - remember to get a quote on the price first […] - we didn't. (A taxi ride to the station costs 10 euro when ordered by the hotel). The entrance to the hotel is rather difficult to find. It's through a very small door in a big old wooden port in an appartment building - and there is just a very small sign to show you that you are at the right place. Then you enter a small yard that was entirely filled with scaffolding and you have to know which entrance to take to find the reception on the second floor. The reception is locked off and unmanned for the most of the time (guests get 3 keys to the room, the reception and to the small door in the the port) Had one of the staff not shown up outside the port, we might still be standing outside. She was very friendly and helpfull (an one of the only people we met in Naples that could speak any english). The rooms were quite nice and very clean and had inside shutters to the windows, which took the top off the street noice, which on our side of the hotel was quite considerable since it faced one of the most trafficked streets of the city. If you are a light sleeper these rooms are definately not for you though, but the hotel also has rooms facing a pedestrian street (I presume for a higher price). For the price we paid the hotel was certainly good value for our money. Read more
