A lovely, quality room on a relevantly quiet street in the heart of Campeche. Unfortunately, the government building blocked the view of the ocean from the tiny balcony.

Though the first room had a slight sewer gas smell, after we changed rooms it was fine. Helpful and genuinely friendly staff. Very clean. Beds a bit older, of the harder and slightly lumpy type. Location superb. Unexpectedly lovely town.

A very interesting hotel in historic building. Room #220 had vaulted ceilings, original tile floors, updated bathroom, upscale towels and bathroom amenities, 42 inch flat screen TV and French balcony looking at a governmental building across the street (not good for view but good for ventilation). The two full size beds were ok as were the pillows. […] The location is close to the main sites. La Pigua restaurant is overrated and there is their cigar bar at the entrance, which is great if you like cigar smoke. Good wine list. This is one of the most beautiful hotels that I have stayed in in Mexico, and I haved stayed in a lot over the last 25 years. The original details of the historic building have been wonderfully preserved. The original pasta tiles are extant throughout the hotel--in the lobby, the hallways, and the rooms. Great location. Beautiful historic property. The beds were too hard for our preference but otherwise the room was very comfortable and clean. No elevator for those who have trouble with stairs but the bellman brought our bags up and down for us. We did not partake of the breakfast so can't comment on that. The hotel is in a perfect location just two blocks from both the malecon and from the main square. You can walk to any location from there. The hotel itself is beautiful, an old restored home with elagant patio and nice refreshing pool. The service was of top quality no questions asked when we arrived two hours before check-in time, the room was ready […] in about twenty minutes. There is on-sight parking that is free, which is very convinient since you don't want to drive too much there. Some have said that they had a problem with breakfast, I was told up-front by the front desk that the breakfast was not included and was told the prices. I chose the continental breakfast, which cost approximately $5.00 US and found it terrific, there is fruit, three types of cereal, coffee, pound cake, white and wheat toast, margarine, jelly and yogurt. Help yourself to as much as you would like. Free Wi-Fi is included with a great signal in the room or you can choose to sit in the patio surrounded by trees and plants with a faux well in the center, which I found very serene. The prices, when you use Hotels.com are very reasonable, a single queen bed room for $65.00 US, a two bed room for $75.00 US and a Junior suite, which I chose, for $100.00 US. The room comes with a large complimentary bottle of water, which as most of you know, is not that way most anywhere you travel. Enjoy your stay at this wonderful hotel in this wonderful city. Campeche is a hidden gem in this Gulf coastal region. Neither my husband nor I had ever been here and we were looking forward to spending some time at the beach. The beaches are actually about an hour away from the center of town, which is where Hotel Castelmar is located. Its location and proximity to the historic district and malecon actually made […] this a perfect stay. We could walk everywhere, experience the old town, and enjoy the elegance of Campeche's 450 year old history. The hotel itself is a historic building and used to be an army barracks, which probably accounts for the thick walls and solid doors. Our room was extremely spacious and very comfortable. We'd gotten a great deal so we had two double beds. Not the best for romance, but great on the pocketbook. The staff were friendly and very helpful in making recommendations and reservations. The building is from the 1890s and renovated in 2004. Like most hotels, it's noisy, but not as loud as many. We found it quite comfortable. We especially enjoyed making friends with the the breakfast waiter, Rudolfo, who only knew Mayan until 8 years of age. We hired Daniel, a guide through El Tucán, a local tourist company, to take us to Edzná, a local site of Mayan ruins. What an experience! He spoke to us in Spanish and English about the history, the legends, and the intricate theories about Mayan culture. It was an unbelievable day! Read more

The building in which this hotel is located dates back to 1800 and you definitely feel the history when you stay here! I lived in Campeche, as a student in the late 70's, and this place was a dump... it is amazing what they've done with it in terms of renovation. The rooms are simple, but beautiful. The location is excellent... a few blocks from el […] centro historico in one direction and an easy walk to the malecón in the other direction. The only "negative"? English is not widely spoken in Campeche (nor is it spoken at this hotel) so be prepared with a few key phrases in Spanish and you'll be fine. Read more

The rooms and location are a steal for the price! The rooms are huge and they are blocks from the main square and waterfront. However, don't expect the staff to be friendly or have high customer service skills. They were not bad but staff would hardly greet us and most of the times the front desk was on the phone texting or internet. However, I'm not traveling here for customer service, I'm traveling to Campeche for the proximity to Palenque, Edzna, and Calakmul which were fantastic archealogical sites which were still relatively undiscovered by tourists. Stayed 2 nights. Room was clean. Everyone was very pleasant. Bed was comfortable enough -- Not a super luxurious mattress or linens, but that wasn't to be expected at this price point. We really loved this hotel-the room was huge, quiet and lovely. The staff was friendly, kind and helpful. Even turn-down sevice was provided, with chocolates on the pillows. Campeche is a delightful city-we really enjoyed our stay. The Castlemar is an old converted army fort. This means that most rooms do not have any outside windows, but instead face onto a lovely galleried interior courtyard. The door has an upper portion that you can open for natural light and air (there is AC in each room if you want it, and you will, as Campeche is a very hot and humid city). We were a little […] concerned about leaving it open at night (it cools down to about 20 C), as we prefer to sleep without the AC running, but as there was a room safe and full time security, we did anyway and had no problems at all. If you are mobility impaired, be aware that there is no elevator here- ask for a main floor room. The decor is simple, traditional, and lovely. The place is quiet and spotless. There were plenty of plenty of towels and lots of hot water in the spacious bathroom. Bottled water is provided free on request, and there was a turndown service. While there wasn't wi-fi, the hotel had a couple of computers available in the lobby which you could use for free. There is TV in the room, lots of channels. There's no bar on site, so if you want a nightcap, bring your own. The only food available is a continental breakfast, we found it not to be a good value- recommend that you visit one of the many excellent restaurants nearby. Our only major disappointment during our stay here was that they never told us about the swimming pool- it was gorgeous, and we didn't find it until just before we were to check out! Read more

les bons côtés sont : l hôtel est très joli plein de charme, notre chambre est belle et propre a 5 minutes du centre ville et le personnel est serviable.Les mauvais côtés sont : le bruit extérieur,la salle de bain plus que minuscule, le lit était trop petit pour deux personnes et l internet était payant.
