This hotel was very disappointing. It says that the rooms were specifically designed for families but was no bigger than an average hotel room; it just had more beds squeezed in. Hotel stay was excellent for us and 4 year old child. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Plenty of leisure activities to please all. Food and entertainment was excellent. If I had known there would be so many children at the resort I would have never gone as they ran wild around the hotel. Our room was large and comfortable, however it had a gas boiler in a cupboard which was very noisy,and I did not like the idea of a boiler in a bedroom. Despite the torrential rain we had for the entire weekend, The Breaffy Woods Hotel is ideal for anyone staying with kids! What a relief not to be constantly telling the kids not to shout / touch / run etc - they had a kids club throughout the day and events such as face painting, disco etc in the evening. We hardly saw them! And the hotel offers a full […] kids menu available in both the bar and restaurant. The swimming pool is fab (in the hotel next door 2 mins away) and we all took advantage of it. It is also free of charge if staying in the hotel and has a jacuzzi and sauna. The rooms were a bit tired looking and could have done with a lick of piant / carpet updated. I also had an issue with the fact that none of the duvets had covers that fit properly. However the family suite was a generous size and very clean, As for the food......if you like everything micro-waved and deep fried then this place is for you. The kids meals seemed fine but I wouldn't recommend the evening meals. They were also a bit over-priced given the quality. However the breakfasts were superb and plentiful! Well worth it! I would definitely stay here again with the kids but I would re-think the evening meal options! The location is fairly central and I would like to go back when the weather is better as the hotel grounds are fabulous. Read more

If you want a place to let your children run free, then this is the place, if however you want a quiet, relaxing time I would suggest that you find a alternative. The Hotel is very child/family friendly with lots of activities, children's creche, disco, face painting, sports and swimming activities etc. there can be huge queues at breakfast, although […] the hotel does warn you and suggests the quieter, less busy times to use the restaurant. The hotel was fine, staff very friendly and helpful, rooms were spacious and clean. It was hard to get the lift as children were joy riding in it. At 11pm we had to ask children to stop making so much noise, shouting to each other and running along the corridors, none appeared to be supervised by an adult. Even though we we travelling with our 13 year old daughter, even she was surprised at the rowdiness and noise levels. This is not the place to stay if you are looking for an adult only spa break. Great Hotel for families but NOT couples or elderly. Food lovely and plenty of it. Children everywhere and the Bar was like a playroom. If i had young children it would be for me. Beautiful grounds and lots of space. Good location. Staff lovely. Ordered pillows and remote controls which were in room within minutes. Well done to staff.

Only stayed for one night for an Irish dancing competition. Hotel is definetly very family orientated. Swimming pool, changing rooms very clean. Kids meals great value at €5 per child. However, fish fingers were served instead of fish goujons!! Would recommend for families.

It is a two hotel complex, the hotel we stayed in was almost empty we had to go to the main hotel which is about a 150m away for drinks and meals. I would stay in the main hotel in future which is called Breafy house not Breafy Woods.

Stayed here for 2 nights and enjoyed it very much. Set out from here to climb Croagh Patrick which is less than 20 miles away. Had a good night on the lash in Castlebar. Found Hotel staff very pleasant and helpful. The rooms are massive, we had a double and 2 singles in ours. Had a tastey 3 course meal for 19euro. The room was very comfortable and very close to the Breaffy House Hotel where we were attending a Valentines Ball. The noise of the fridge and of the boiler in the corner of the room was so loud. I could not sleep at all with the noise so we were up and gone by 9am even though we were looking forward to a nice lie in!

My family and I enjoyed a 4 night break in the breaffy woods hotel in Castlebar in late August this year. It was full of things to do during the day and the nightly entertainment was second to none. There are lots of lovely neighbouring towns to visit and beautiful Achill Island less than an hours drive away.

The surroundings of the hotel are fantastic but as always travelling in Ireland is relatively difficult to get to as there are no postcodes (I suppose we all get used to satnav?). My wife daughter and I booked a six night stay in a large family room at the Breaffy Woods Hotel In August as the rates were very attractive. When we arrived the façade looked very promising. Reception was pleasant and we were given a key. The room had only a double bed, hardly a family room. Apologies and we were issued another room, again only a double, […] this was starting to form a pattern. Third time lucky and the room, very average size rather than large, was ok. We went for a swim, but had to wait, as the pool was full to capacity. Annoying, but when I got in to the pool I realised it was indeed packed tight. That is the way it is all day everyday as I soon found out. After a good meal in Castlebar we discovered that only the fluorescent ceiling lights worked in the room. Reception had a man on it quickly in the morning, but it was a bigger problem necessitating yet another move! Our fourth petite family room did indeed have functioning lights and the third bed space, but also had the last residents spilt baby formula on the counter amongst general surface grime. Even with pointing this out at reception it remained for our stay as it seemed the cleaning staff just make the bed, not change it, then swap the towels and they are off! The public areas reflected the same level of cleanliness. This building it seems was designed as apartments but to avail of tax breaks each was divided to hotel rooms. This explains the boiler in all the rooms we were in, ex kitchen/living rooms, in which to control the heat for two adjoining rooms, most peculiar. Another problem is the services ie. car park, bar, sitting areas, ventilation, which are big enough for fifty apartments fall far short of that need for 120 rooms. The kiddy disco which serves to get the kids hyper at bed time while the parents drink closes at 9pm so while the parents continue drinking the kids run wild unsupervised throughout the hotel corridors ensuring little sleep to be had before midnight.
