"Spectacular View ... but ..."
Negative aspects: - Shuttle bus not very frequent. - Shuttle bus goes to Sorrento town centre (=15 min walk to train station) - Hence no syncing up with train timetable - Thus not great base if visiting Pompeii, Herculaneum, Vesuvius, Naples - Rooms have NO spare electrical sockets to charge phones, laptop, camera. Had to disconnect lamps - Air conditioning […] only on request, but you have to ask EVERY night. - Busy road right beside Hotel (not visible on hotel photos) - Breakfast was OK, but juice wasn’t fresh, only one type of cheese, boiled eggs were cold, fresh fruit was an apple or a peach. Positive aspects: + The view … did I mention the view? + Empty fridge in room excellent for own drinks + In general the staff were very friendly + Lovely village of St. Agatha which was only 5 minutes by foot, most of it on private hotel ground. Hotellet holder jevnt bra standard.
Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Comfortable place to stay"
Comfortable place to stay. Was a bit difficult to find, as hotel is marked on wrong place in Navtec maps, both in tripadvisor and navigator. I would recommend to check. The private path (or more or less well lit road) to St.Agata was good. Shuttle to Sorrento worked also well, parking by hotel was available. Television very small and outdated, even […] if many channels available. A/C not quite powerful enough for +35 degrees temperatures. Internet not available in rooms, only in lobby and one corner of balcony. Breakfast could use some variation during full week. For example fresh fruit would be available at low cost for fruit salads instead of tinned, naturally needing a bit of work in kitchen. Still all in all we enjoyed or stay because of very helpful and friendly staff, location, nice room and views. Enough sunbeds, even if many guests reserve them with towels hours before they come to pool. Hotel could consider removing towels from empty chairs, if no-one comes in many hours. Dinner food not best price/quality ratio, but easy to get in St Agata to eat.

"Great sea view"
The room is old and needs some refurbishing. The elevator is really small. The location: Google maps showed that it's 2 km from Sorrento, when, in fact, there are about 7 kilometers. There is no free internet connection. If you decide to book this hotel, pay the extra price for a room with sea view and a terrace: it's really worth it. The set menu […] in the evening is OK if you're not too fussy: average quality at a price of EUR 20. Breakfast was good (also warm food, which is unusual for Italian hotels). Overall, we liked it, but it would be an unbeatable option if it were refurbished. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great place to stay, only a few minor flaws"
10/30/14 DMackster Cincinnati
Stayed here for 3 nights in late October 2014. Staff was excellent - friendly & very helpful - probably the best of anywhere we have visited in all of Europe (16+ total cities). Location is a bit far (25-30 min drive) from Sorrento but the peace and quiet and views are fantastic. Rooms were very clean and well cared for. Free shuttle to anywhere you need to go is nice. Just a few minor complaints - none of which would preclude us from going back here: beds are all singles (pushed together or pulled apart if you you asked for a "queen" vs 2 beds). The room and hallway floors are all tiled, so hallway noise can be annoying. Beds and pillows are hard and uncomfortable - like most Italian hotels (why can't 4 star places in Italy get descent beds and pillows??). Breakfast was just OK - eggs were in a pool of water and bacon was horribly undercooked. We completely skipped the included hotel breakfast the next 2 days and opted for a better bfast in Sorrento. There is a private, albeit dark and scary at first, passage to walk to the nearby town, which is great. Da Mimi restaurant was great and Don Alfonso restaurant was absolutely fantastic/world class. Don Alfonso is very pricey but worth every penny - don't miss it if you go here. Overall a great place but a better bed to sleep in and a better breakfast would have warranted 4 or even 5 stars in my book. Would stay here again.

first holiday in Italymily of 3, we have visited many wonderful places in the world BUT this was our 1st visit to Italy, the Amalfi coast is stunning, Sorrento was stunning as was Amalfi and Rovello and Pompei is mind blowing, the Grand Hotel Hermitage is a blast from the past, 100% authentic, a family run hotel who have done a great job through the world wide recession, we stayed 10 days, met some great people who have returned year after year, we will come back, the VIEWS of Vesuvious and Sorrento are STUNNING, the staff are great, the courtesy bus to sorrento was great, Sant Agata is small but lovely and you must walk there for a lovely evening, thank you for your friendliness and service, the gentleman in the cocktail bar in the evening was lovely, ; we will defo return, 100% recommend the Hermitage, if you want a boutique hotel with expensive rates (£) go elsewhere, if you want a family run quality hotel with stunning views and very friendly staff please book the Hermitage, you will not be dissapointed, quircky, lovely and very traditional, thank you for making our first visit to Italy a fantastic experience, I went back to work totally relaxed, happy and looking forward to returning to Italy ( met great people from Ireland, Aberdeen, America and a lovely lady from the RAF, u know who u r x), Thank you Grand Hermitage Peter, Sheila and Laura, Morecambe UK :-)
"Friendly staff but not 4* hotel"
09/20/14 Kim C
Myself & my partner stayed at the hotel for 7 days, the staff were solo friendly & helpful...brilliant! However, for us it was just to Far out of Sorrento & although the free shuttle bus is great & runs on time you are tied to those times to get into Sorrento & the last bus is at 11pm & found we weren't always ready to leave by then but had no choice. The hotel was clean but definately needs a freshen up no 4* hotel here! TI've read lots of reviews on here about kids & the hotel being busy, perhaps because we went when kids went back to school but felt the hotel was full of older generation people, no younger couples at all...we felt very young at 45!! We did have an amazing holiday & will be back to beautiful Sorrento but not to this hotel for reasons I've mentioned.

Very much enjoyed our recent stay at this hotel. Have thought very hard to find a negative but nothing comes to mind. The hotel was very clean and rooms well maintained and serviced every day . The staff in all parts of the hotel are very friendly and helpful ask them to organise any trips better value than holiday companies and they know the area ( we spent an evening at the Sorrento Musical recommended by the young lady on reception who told us not to book taxi at cost of 30 E as she knew we could make the last hotel bus back at no cost, which we did with time to spare). Food was plentiful and very tasty with a huge selection 4 courses every evening and meals purchased from pool bar were of the same standard although avoid the sandwich white sliced bread . The views were amazing from sea view room so would book a room overlooking the bay if you can. Try the walk to Sant Agata lovely walk although when you are told that it is out of the hotel and turn right it is just that out of door and up slope to the right several of us went to end of hotel drive and then a walk along windy road with cars and coaches whizzing by .
"Hotel Hermitage is Grand"
09/07/14 Tracey C Croydon, United Kingdom
Visited here on a one week break with my extended family of eleven, in May 2014. So impressed were my teenage children they rated it better than Florida - praise indeed! As for the adults I can only say that we all enjoyed the stay there so much; filling our boots with the plentiful buffet (morning and evening) and enjoyed so much that we barely went out to eat. As a typical Englishman I missed my kettle in the room, but we soon learnt that they were more than happy to provide us with lots of coffee and Lipton's tea. This hotel knocked spots off of our previous visit to a hotel closer to Sorrento. The staff here are amazing, surprisingly accommodating and fun. It is said that you can tell the quality of a restaurant by the locals using it, and they were there in abundance every night. Would not think twice about return visit to hotel. If I had any criticisms it would be their limitation of one aging XP laptop to research etc. but at least they had something and we were grateful. All the reviews I read were as they say, our choice was based on these, so not at all disappointed.

This lovely hotel with its beautiful views was the most excellent family holiday had. Quiet location with a pool and the most food I have ever ate. The rooms and hotel was very clean. The people could not of been more hospitable. The kids loved it here and I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone, Can't wait to go back.
"Good hotel, great views, good location"
08/29/14 Dave D
If you want a great view of the bay of Naples / Vesuvius and would rather be away from Sorrento's town centre then this is a good choice. It's a short walk from Sant Agata where you can find a number of restaurants and avoid being tied to the hotel shuttle times or taxis. Staff were helpful and friendly. Wi-fi is available at extra cost (approx £2 a day per room / device) - I had to disable / reset the proxy settings to None for it to work but otherwise was fine. Excursions can be arranged that pick up / drop off directly from the hotel e.g. Pompeii / Vesuvius, Capri, Amalfi coast...
"Good stay in a lovely area"
08/24/14 Jennifer B Wickford, England, United Kingdom
We got this hotel as part of a BA package and were told it was a 4 star hotel. I want to get any negatives out of the way first of all, because I want to be clear that we really enjoyed our stay and this isn't a bad hotel at all for the money. The negatives: I don't think this is a 4 star hotel, it is a 3 star, maximum. The décor outside near the pool area does need some attention and sprucing up, and the walls are very thin (we heard a man next door snoring on 2 nights- not expected in a 4 star hotel). The doors have gaps around them which let in light and noise and we heard other guests coming and going. You could also hear toilets flushing. Other than that, it was quite in the small hours of the night when you're asleep anyways. Towels in the bathroom are a bit odd, the bath towels were fine, but the handtowels were quite italian in that they seemed to feel more like dishcloths and didnt soak up much! Shower leaked everywhere and curtain didn't stop! Bed is a bit hard for my liking, but that seems to be a european thing anyways, so perhaps not the hotel's fault. Tiles on the floor very slippy, so as you might walk around your room after being in the hotel pool, wear flipflops as it could be dangerous with wet feet! TV only had 1 English channel, CNN but then we didn't watch much TV anyways! The shuttle bus down to Sorrento gets full quickly and you cant book in advance, so turn up about 30mins early and prepare to queue to get on! WIFI is an extra charge and is a bit unreliable in the rooms, there was a "hotspot" in the reception area where you had to sit, to get the best reception from it. The positives: The location is fantastic, it isn't in Sorrento, it is high up on the hills overlooking it, but this means you're out of the tourist hustle and bustle and get a much more "real" italian experience. The staff of this hotel are very helpful, friendly and courteous. They do seem to go out of their way to help you and their English was fantastic. They explained how to get to the local areas and excursions, tours etc. They were very knowledgable and nothing was too much trouble. The pool area is kept clean and we didnt have any problems getting a sunlounger. The pool is a bit small, especially when there are children there playing around in it, it's not a pool for swimming lengths in, but most days it was fairly quiet. There is a bar area near the pool where you can get served food and drink and the staff always served with a smile and you simply put it on your room and don't need to carry money with you! Plenty of towels as well, so you don't need extra beach towels. There is a private path linking the hotel to the nearby town of Sant'Agata and this path is very safe and usually busy with fellow holidaymakers walking into town late at night. Be warned though, you're in the mountains and there's many trees you're walking past so you WILL need bug repellent!!! I got bitten twice, quite badly and had to go to the local chemist to get an antibiotic as they got infected, this was despite me covering myself in bug spray!! The local town is wonderful, with enough restaurants and pizzerias so you could eat somewhere different every couple of nights. What other reviewers said here is true about the hospitality at Bar Orlando (you must try the Prosecco!) and Mimi's restaurant and Mr Gregory's pizzeria. The food and drink is so reasonable, we were amazed at how cheap!!! Good quality, fresh ingredients are always used, we loved the food! There is also a small, cheap supermarket in the town where we picked up a few bits that you;'d need for a week's stay and as I said, I visited the pharmacy and the lady there was so friendly and helpful and again, her English was fantastic. The people of this little town are used to tourists and seem friendly. Make sure to go to the tourist office and collect a SITA bus timetable, as this'll prove invaluable when trying to organise getting to Sorrento and/or Amalfi and Positano etc. While I'm talking about the public buses, oh my goodness, they are mad! NO ONE respects a queue, you really have to arrive well early and be prepared to fight for your place on the bus, I mean it, elbow people and shove to get on! They pack the buses in too full and we had to stand all the way to Amalfi, which was 2 hours in the heat! Not enjoyable at all!!! The location of the hotel means that, without a hire car of your own, the only way to get to places is with the bus. The SITA bus from Sorrento to Sant'Agata was much less packed and easy to use, so if you can't get on the free hotel shuttle bus, you could use this one. The food at the hotel is nice, the evening menu was ok, for 20 euros you can get a good 3 course meal, but we only ate at the hotel once. When you see how nice the food and atmosphere is in the restaurants in the local town, you will not want to eat at the hotel too many times anyways! The breakfast was fine, but busy, as everyone is rushing around to get their stuff etc. Plenty of choice provided and there was something to suit all tastes (continental etc). The hotel allows you to print off boarding passes etc, so that's one less thing to worry about. The hotel is kept very clean, by the team of hardworking staff. The room was serviced each day, but it would have been nice to have had a "do not disturb" sign to hang on the door, as the maid disturbed us a couple of times to clean the room, before we were ready to leave for the day. You will need to book a hotel transfer from the airport, as the hotel is up windy roads and you won't want to try pulling suitcases up there! Don't forget you will have to pay the city tax upon check out, not too expensive though, so don't worry! Would I stay here again, yes! The hotel is looked after by some lovely staff, yes it needs a few tweaks, but purely for the reason of it being so close to a proper, real italian village with plenty of amenities, we wouldn't hesitate booking another stay. Actually, I don't want loads of people finding out about it and the little village of Sant'Agata becoming too "touristy" in the future!!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :)

Really the best service ever! The family and staff that run the hotel are the best. Great location with a private path to town. Good food and great amenities. Highly recommend. Sant Agata is a wonderful small town with great dining and shopping.
"Amazing stay, exceptional customer service"
08/18/14 Debbie M Dublin, Ireland
We only stayed 3 nights but wish it was more. We started off with an upgrade to a room with fabulous views of the Bay of Naples and Mt. Vesuvius. Throughout the customer service was second to none. The bus was very convenient down to Sorrento and we enjoyed being out of the hustle and bustle. The breakfast was fine and our room was clean and spacious. On our last day, we had an unfortunate incident with our hire car where a cone from a tree smashed the back window. The hotel were on it straight away and have been in constant contact with us since we left to resolve the issue. They went above and beyond and we are very grateful to William for looking after us. Can't wait to come back in the future. The value for money cannot be beaten.
