"Very nice hotel, just some minor niggles"
The hotel was a very nice building with loads of character and very nicely finished. The evening meal was very nice, good food, excellent service, but the breakfast portions were a little small. The room was ok but a little cold even with the heating on (and I don't feel the cold at all!!). The bathroom wasn't quite clean enough, cobwebs, shampoo in the bath, a bit more attention around the toilet needed... And the bedroom a little dusty, so a little more care and attention here would have been nice. The Wifi was horrendously bad, and from what I can tell there were only 2 other rooms booked in the hotel so it wasn't exactly overloaded...

"Expectations too high and geared for weddings"
I have stayed at this hotel a few times now and you can certainly tell that the hotel is geared towards weddings now. Guaranteed every weekend there will be a wedding on. Which means they shut the car park in front of the hotel (and leave empty, I assume for nice wedding photo's). Carpets are all well warn out, our radiator didn't work, the bathroom has mildew in it and the carpets are worn out. To spend the amount of money I just expect better. Restaurant downstairs has a limited menu and my partner is a vegetarian had no options to choose from... The positives, beautiful surroundings great location to travel to York/Leeds/harrogate/Roundhay park and we even managed Whitby. The staff are really friendly and helpful and I had a late checkin and was treated well when I arrived at midnight

"Great time"
We travelled as 2 friends plus our 3 children for a mini break. Overall we had a fantastic time & would rate the hotel highly. We did however have some housekeeping niggles that were inconvenient (ie no robe or towels for the 3rd person in the room, no replacement loo roll & dirty cups on the refreshment tray). All were resolved quickly when reported but a little annoying on a short break. Overall the staff (particularly at the pool were incredibly helpful. Would recommend a stay here!

"Country house hotel with a spectacular view"
This is our favourite half way or first stop on 2 day drives from Aberdeen to South East England or 3 day drives to the South West. We tolerate older style bathroom furniture in characterful country houses like this. It has a spectacular view and superb food. My breakfast eggs benedict with smoked salmon (ham also available) were generous and wonderful. The only slight negative is that the cold buffet breakfast items other than juices and water are set out in a corridor on the other side of the doorway used by the waiters, but we knew about this and the building does not really provide an alternative. Our bathroom fan was not working (the most common hotel problem in my experience) but was fixed while we were out for a few hours. A column style fan (and humidifier?) in our room coped with hot weather, something not achieved by the other two hotels used this trip. We heard no noise from the wedding celebrations that were taking place on the night of our visit.

"A very average hotel - forgetable"
Nice location in the country, but a very average hotel for the money. Hotel service very hit and miss, example. Ordered morning news paper - never received but charged. Evening room dress down one evening but none the next day. Room very average - nothing special, can't really complain but wouldn't return if I had a choice; my room did not even have a bath and I paid extra for an executive room. Recommend if you are cannot find anything better around the area. Note: Seems to be popular with weddings for some reason.

"Excellent stay"
Excellent stay in all respects, staff friendly and helpful, food delicious, room very comfortable with lovely views, spa area although small was very clean and again staff very friendly, Wood Hall is down a long winding lane and there is nothing around it but the pleasure of being in the beautiful countryside with good food, great service far outweighs anything. We loved it so much we extended our stay and if we didn't live so far away would be regular visitors, Thank you Wood Hall for a lovely stay.

"Wonderful overnight stay"
Firstly I would like to say the staff were fantastic, couldn't do enough for you. The hotel is really lovely with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. My room was a classic and was very stylish and luxurious, my only complaint was no fridge, but the staff did supply and ice bucket and the delux rooms do have them. I will certainly be returning and hopefully for a little longer next time so I get the opportunity to sample the spa.

"Beautiful setting"
Hotel staff were lovely and couldn't do enough. The hotel was set in beautiful grounds and magnificent scenery. My only criticism was that the menu in the restaurant was too fussy for my taste. I wanted fish and salad simply cooked and couldn't find that. But if you want to treat yourself it is a special place. The bedroom was so beautiful I didn't want to leave it.

Luxury hotel, great spa, great staff and good food. This was a half way break on a routine journey from London to Scotland albeit it was New Years Day. "Imposing Hotel in glorious Yorkshire country side."
Staff on desk very helpful good meal on Thursday night but quite expensive for what it was. Arrival of big wedding party on Friday morning and when we returned in the evening car park closed off not a lot of enjoyment for any one else. BUT bed not made up waste bins still full in the room. So we told the desk and while we were out that night (you would not want to stay at the hotel for a meal with the large wedding party who were have a very good time) we asked them to make up the bed and clean the room. When we returned the cover were thrown over the bed but it was not made up, which my wife kindly did, and the milk in the jug on the dressing table now resembled yoghurt, pretty bad really!

"Nice hotel great surroundings"
As a whole had a really lovely stay, my husband and I stayed for 2 nights to celebrate a special birthday and a last break before our first baby arrives early may. The hotel very kindly upgraded us to a suite which was very comfortable. The hotel is set in beautiful surroundings and has a lovely little spa attached. Breakfast was beautiful with a great menu to choose from and we spent an evening just relaxing in the library in front of an amazing log fire. I only have a couple of negatives, mostly the cleanliness of the room. The living space needed a good dusting and the couch was all stained which was a shame because apart from this I would have given full marks.

Stayed one night for a friends wedding reception. Everything went according to plan and was well organised there was plenty of staff available and no hiccups. "Top Location, Great Hotel, Wonderful Service"
I chose the Wood Hall Spa as a place in Yorkshire near to York, Harrogate, Leeds and lots of other tourist attractions. I was right. It was an excellent choice. The hotel was first-class with ALL the staff eager, willing and able to please. Nothing was too much trouble. Excellent continental and cooked breakfast served in the delightful Restaurant. Plenty to do around Wetherby including walks from the Hotel recommended by the well-experienced staff. We had an excellent 2 Rosette dinner at the Hotel during the week which was excellently cooked and presented with attentive and knowledgeable waiting staff. All in all a very good break. Onl;y a pity we didn't get to enjoy the lovely spa and pool facilities - there just wasn't time!

"Wonderful night away!"
02/08/16 dawnfawcett
We stayed at Wood Hall hotel on a Sunday night deal which I bought for my husbands birthday. On arrival we were greeted by a lovely lady on reception who we had emailed the previous day to get an upgrade on our room. The lady also knew we were away for a birthday. We were then taken to our room by a friendly gentleman who chatted all the way to the room. We arrived at our room which was lovely it was called the Spruce room, reception gave us a quick ring to ensure our room was ok. There was a letter to welcome us on our bed and a small envelope with a ribbon round it which we were intrigued by, on opening it we had a voucher entitling us to 2 glasses of sparkling wine to celebrate my husbands birthday. It's little touches like this that really make your stay a memorable one. We then had cream tea before using the facilities. In the spa we got a really friendly welcome and were shown around so we knew where to go. The swimming pool was a decent size and all areas were very clean. On the evening we had a drink in the bar before our meal. Excellent service once again. Everyone just seemed so friendly. We were then taken to our table for our 3 course meal which we thoroughly enjoyed. We were mainly served by a gentleman called Gethin, who was a really pleasant man, you could easily have a bit of a chat with him and a laugh which made the atmosphere welcoming and relaxed. When we thought we had finished our meals a plate came out with some chocolates and jellies on with the words 'happy birthday' written on it in white chocolate sauce. These were delicious! and such a wonderful thought from the hotel. On the morning after a lovely sleep in a very comfortable bed we decided to have breakfast in our room which was really nice and it just meant we could enjoy our gorgeous room a little while longer. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel, set in an area with beautiful views and our whole experience was wonderful.

My only complaint of this hotel would be the corridors and rooms were boiling, which made it so uncomfortable. We stayed for 2 nights for a friends wedding. The staff were fantastic. The food was amazing. The view was a delightful sight. The whole atmosphere over the weekend was very relaxed and we enjoyed it thoroughly.

"A Mixed Bag..."
01/21/16 357evettea London, United Kingdom
The Good: The grounds and view from the hotel are stunning, the deluxe room we stayed in was beautiful and very luxurious in feel, and the lunch we had the next day in the hotel lounge area was fantastic The Bad: The hotel is very noisy. Perhaps due to it's age it is very creaky, and not only could we hear people walking and talking in the corridor outside our room, we felt the room shaking as heavier guests went past! Hoovering began outside our door at 8am which wasn't what we needed the day after attending a local wedding. There was a "wedding fair" happening in the hotel on the weekend we stayed there which might account for the amount of people milling around and the noise (and the fact that the restaurant was shut on the Sunday), but we hadn't been warned of this on booking. Also on check in they said they would take my credit card details in case any extras needed to be paid for, but they did not explain that £50 would be taken from my credit card and not returned to me until 4 days after my stay. The one major customer service complaint I do have was that we booked a cab via reception for 6pm. At 5.30pm we realised this was too early and asked reception to change the cab booking to 6.15pm, which they said they had done. At 6pm reception called to say our cab was here and the driver was angry we were keeping him waiting. Instead of reception dealing with this in a professional manner, the man on reception refused to get involved to explain the situation and instead put the angry cab driver on the phone to my boyfriend, for him to get shouted at! It was a very bizarre situation. In short, it was a great place to stay for one night but I wouldn't go back considering the price tag of the room and the overall lack of relaxation/quiet.

"A weekend of snowy luxury"
01/20/16 Nick R Manchester, United Kingdom
This was a birthday surprise from my girlfriend and we thoroughly enjoyed the weekend at Wood Hall. We were given a red carpet welcome and the staff were very helpful in showing us to our room and advising on all the facilities. We were staying in the lodge style outer buildings a very short walk from the main entrance. The room itself was very comfortable with a large bed. Modern bathroom facilities, Sky TV and everything for a comfortable stay. The spa area is fantastic - decent size pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. Treatments are available and there's also a small gym. Dinner was extremely tasty and the service was excellent. Likewise for breakfast in the morning, with a cooked breakfast made to order. To our delight it snowed overnight so the Hall was a picture. Staff were very helpful with directions for a walk in the snow and we took in the surrounding village of Sicklinghall. After checking out we were very welcome to stay and have afternoon tea in the drawing room with a roaring fire. Situated just half an hour outside of Leeds, we will most likely be staying here again.

"Stunning stay at a beautiful location"

What an amazing location, drove up to the property like gentry through stunning scenery. On entrance to the hotel was greeted by the loveliest receptionist who immediately put us at ease. The room was beautiful, lovely decor and plushly furnished. We used the bar area and nothing was too much trouble for any of the waiters or bar staff. Very friendly service. We had breakfast in the Georgian dining room in the morning which was cooked fresh to order and yet again, fabulous service from the waiter. We typically overran checkout time but there was no issue and we arrived downstairs to lovely smiles and warm greetings. Fabulous stay, the company was amaze balls and the hotel and service was tippety top !!

What a lovely idyllic place to stay. Room overlooked the main drive and had stunning views and very comfortable. Good was amazing and service fantastic. Why 4/10 ? That is why, otherwise a 3/10. Our room had mucky cups in the wardrobe which still had the remainder of someone's drink in, the toilet hadn't been cleaned and shavings all over the mirror. The swimming pool was too hot, yes hot, like a bath but fine. The food was incredible and this raced the score upto a 4, on leaving we were given a 10% discount but really poor that we had to show them how filthy a room had been left. This has put us off another visit

"Exceptional"
01/07/16 Roo_Nicholls Leeds, United Kingdom
I got married at wood hall on 28th Dec 2015 and I can honestly say that they were nothing less than exceptional - my sister has written a review (below) which does not represent my view of Wood Hall AT ALL. The whole team went out of their way to accommodate our every need. Rachel Cox, the wedding coordinator, was excellent at replying and communicating quickly with all queries and questions. Before, and on the day, of our wedding the staff were warm, friendly and very keen the please. The bridal suite was clean and impressive and the breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Negatives: 1. Breakfast is only served until 9:30am - which is very early after a wedding! 2. The hotel is a wedding factory - so in one respect they know exactly what they're doing, but in another it means that over weekends and bank holidays wedding guests are coming and going for different weddings all day, every day - which doesn't exactly make you feel 'unique'! Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a rural Yorkshire wedding!

"Very happy with our relaxing stay"
01/03/16 MrSamBurton Bradford, United Kingdom
My wife and I stayed in this lovely country hotel 2nd - 3rd Jan 2016 for a overnight spa break. It is what you would expect from a 4 star hotel, and is in a beautiful, peaceful country setting. The rooms could probably do with a minor refurb in places, but overall was generally high quality throughout. The spa was good and the treatments we received were great. The jacuzzi was broken, but we were compensated for this adequately, thank you very much Kim and Noel. This is what has brought my review from 4 stars up to 5 stars as we received excellent customer service from both of these managers. The restaurant was fantastic and a big thanks to Kevin who made our evening meal that little bit extra special. All of the dining, bar, room service, reception and other staff were very professional and well trained in their profession. I would highly recommend taking break here and we will return soon. Many thanks. Sam & Jodie Burton

"Didn't live up to expectation"
01/02/16 NMGross26 London, United Kingdom
We stayed here overnight and were on dinner, bed and breakfast for a night away from the kids. We'd historically heard a lot about Wood Hall from friends and family so our expectations were high. Positives are: Great setting for the hotel, good food but you pay for it, most of service was very attentive and rooms were stylishly decorated. Negatives: initial welcome from the staff was muted (no offer to get bags, shown to room or point out where things were in the hotel, asked what time we wanted dinner), some of the decor felt like it needed some touching up or refurbishing. Biggest let down was the spa which felt more like a leisure club. It was dated, jacuzzi broken, small with limited seating, changing room past it and waiting area not very luxurious. Prefer the facilities at the David Lloyd! Would be great if they could get some more relaxation seating around the pool area but would probably need to extend and possibly an outdoor spa tub to try and give a bit of extra wow. Had a feeling that the hotel can get away charging what it does due to lack of local competition but didn't necessarily feel it was great value for money. We've also been to Hendon Hall in London and last time we were there around 24 months ago and also had a feel like it needed some money spending on updating it. Both properties felt like they had more potential in terms of quality and experience.

"Must do better"
12/29/15 Laura_nicholls Hanoi
The hotel hosted my sisters wedding. My room was not clean, the bathroom floor clearly had stains from the previous tenant across it when we took the key. The in room tea and coffee was full of empty packets, so not sugar in our morning drinks. Breakfast was supposed to be served until 9.30 upon my arrival at 9.20 there was no food left. No bread for toast, no hot food, no patisserie, no cold meats. When I asked the waiting staff, one chap told me they had run out?! Another told me I'd missed breakfast as if finished at 9.30. And another waiter told me he was hungry too and understood my frustration. The tea and coffee on the breakfast table were cold, and the tea tasted of coffee. The evening Buffett served at the wedding was insufficient for the number of guests, in fact only enough food was served to cover around 15 ppl. The bar prices are extortionate. Would not recommend.
