What a great hotel. Staff were excellent as was our room. Spent some time in spa which was very relaxing. Ate in restaurant in evening and couldn't fault it, food and service were excellent. Can't wait to visit again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
If you are looking for something special this hotel cannot really be beaten - from everything from the minute we arrived to when we left nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Rooms are luxurious with nice touches like soft seating, magazines and a flat screen tv that is big enough to see. Food and the restaurant is top class - you would not be […] disappointed. "poor service and standard of hot food at breakfast"
Lovely hotel. Unfortunately the service we received at breakfast was very disappointing and the hot food we were served was overcooked and cold. Also very cheap bathroom fitting (toilet roll holder)Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice hotel but slow staff"
Hotel has a lovely garden and the room was comfortable. The food was tasty but the staff were slow. Staff pleasant but not on the ball enough for the quality of hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good quality country hotel"
Stayed one night for a friends wedding reception. Everything went according to plan and was well organised there was plenty of staff available and no hiccups. The staff, without exception were helpful, polite without being OTT. The only downside was the price of the drinks which were excessive even taking into account the type of hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Top Location, Great Hotel, Wonderful Service"
I chose the Wood Hall Spa as a place in Yorkshire near to York, Harrogate, Leeds and lots of other tourist attractions. I was right. It was an excellent choice. The hotel was first-class with ALL the staff eager, willing and able to please. Nothing was too much trouble. Excellent continental and cooked breakfast served in the delightful Restaurant. […] Plenty to do around Wetherby including walks from the Hotel recommended by the well-experienced staff. We had an excellent 2 Rosette dinner at the Hotel during the week which was excellently cooked and presented with attentive and knowledgeable waiting staff. All in all a very good break. Onl;y a pity we didn't get to enjoy the lovely spa and pool facilities - there just wasn't time! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great for a quiet get away"
The standard of the hotel is excellent. The rooms are very comfortable and it is very quiet. It is a venue to get away from it all and to relax. The spa is decent, although the gym is rather dated. The food is good, although the service in the dining room is poor. Breakfast was notably poor. After receiving just some toast and tea in 40 minutes (despite […] an adundance fo staff), we chose to leave without our main breakfast. In fairness, the response by the manager after we complained was excellent. I cannot fault this at all and it was very pleasing. I would though recommend room service, which was timely and to a good quality. Wetherby and numerous villages are nearly by. I would recommend the Fox and Hounds pub (just outside Wetherby) and Mango in Wetherby itself. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Lovely spa day and amazing afternoon tea!"
03/06/14 Fiona P Leeds, England, United Kingdom
I was bought a spa day at Wood Hall by my boyfriend as a birthday gift and it entitled me and a friend to visit for the day and enjoy afternoon tea. We both were very impressed. On arrival at the hotel it's location and setting along with the beautiful look of the building impressed us straight away. We entered the spa where we were greeted by friendly staff and could help ourselves to tea, coffee and fruit. After getting changed into our robes and slippers we spent most of the day relaxing by the pool, in the jacuzzi and in the sauna. The spa isn't the biggest but on the day we visited it was very quiet so we got a lounger and it was very relaxing. We both enjoyed a facial and a full body massage. We were both in agreement that the massage was among the best we had ever had. The therapist listen exactly to my needs and the pressure was perfect. After a lovely start to our day we got changed and moved over to the main hotel for our afternoon tea. The room was so luxurious and again the staff were very attentive. The afternoon tea was to die for! It was without argument the best afternoon teas I have had. The homemade cakes and scone were simply delicious. I am thinking of returning to treat my Mum for Mothers Day. All in all we had a fantastic day and a great experience. I highly recommend Wood Hall.
"Attention to detail.."

This was our second stay at this hotel. I’ll be honest that this stay was ‘free’ as on our previous visit we were disappointed about the hygiene of the room. The duty manager had picked up that we were unhappy (but that we didn’t make too much of a fuss) and ‘phoned us at home to offer us a complimentary stay. We ungraded our complimentary stay from a standard room to a deluxe room, happy to pay the difference. We also booked into the restaurant where we would experience some fine dining. So, if we were paying full whack you’d expect to pay circa £280 for one night bed and breakfast and a meal in the restaurant at circa £180 with a decent bottle of wine and pre-dinner drinks should see you close to £500 lighter in the wallet. Worth it? No. Why? Well, to be fair the room was OK. We’ve stayed in more opulent rooms, more comfortable rooms (only one armchair), and we’ve stayed in rooms with slightly fewer cushions. However, we’ve stayed in quieter rooms. It has to be said that the executive room we stayed in on the previous occasion was quiet. This deluxe room – which sits up on the first floor over the reception – was unfortunate in that people did choose to have loud conversations in the corridor outside the room. Not the hotels fault, I admit. We were told when booking the room that ‘there is a wedding on’. It appears we should have put this into Google translate – using Hotelese to English – and we would have come up with the following translation: “A wedding means that there will be a lot of noise in the car park outside your room until, potentially the wee small hours. We make a lot of money from our wedding business and we think that this is something you should be willing to put up with”. The area of greatest disappointment was the food. The deep fried goat’s cheese ball was perhaps too cold before it was deep fried – not much of the innards had melted and the cold cheese was perhaps a little cloying on the tongue. The leek that accompanied this was from the greener part of the stem and was a strong taste. This may be have been alleviated had it been at all cooked – it wasn’t (or not very much at least) and was left by us. The pickled mushrooms were perfect though. The lemon sole was strangely without any taste and the Sirloin steak, ordered medium-rare, was overcooked. Finally, the dessert was a humorous take on a sandwich which was affected by making a dry sponge appear as bread. It was dry as bread sadly. Ultimately, it was a very disappointing meal, which at £100 for the food alone, didn’t justify the price tag. Breakfast was an odd experience. We noticed that on our last visit our poached eggs were oddly tasteless – and there was no difference this time. What was slightly irritating – and really about attention to detail, is that the service at breakfast was not brilliant. We were asked if we’d like juices, our order was taken, and then promptly forgotten about. We eventually went and served ourselves. Toast was never offered (though everyone around us was offered and got it). This was not the first time during our stay that our request was missed. Prior to our meal the previous evening I asked for a pint of Peroni which I was told wasn’t on draft – so two bottles would have to suffice. The order duly arrived – only one bottle. On observing this I was advised that I ‘can go steady, eh’ – and I thought it was only my Doctor that was concerned about my alcohol intake. Finally, on leaving, we were asked about our stay. Being honest we pointed out the observations recorded here. I’m not one to dash to Tripadvisor to make damning reviews and we try and discuss our findings, if the reception is quiet at the time. We were told about how weddings are an important part of their custom…. (to be fair they did knock off the room supplement due to the noise). We were also asked if we’d like a duty manager to give us a call to discuss our thoughts. We said that would be OK but we are not after returning to this hotel again so are not looking for anything in return. Perhaps that is why we have never had that call. I now have to make sure I unsubscribe from the email list of Handpicked Hotels – I have no desire to pay a premium price for one night in a hotel that really shouldn’t command the premium. Pity really.
"Just misses out on a full house"

My wife and I stayed here for a night as a treat. We had a massage in the spa on the afternoon we arrived then ate in the restaurant in the evening. The staff throughout were excellent, very friendly and helpful without being overbearing. The room was a deluxe room and we were a little disappointed. It was a little smaller than expected and only had one chair in it. We did ask about this and was shown an alternative but this was a little gloomy with views of a brick wall so we declined. However, the room was clean and comfortable. The restaurant was very good but the portions were small, much smaller than expected. We should have ordered extra vegetables. We weren't seated in the main restaurant but in a smaller room through the back. There were no problems with this as the service was very good and it was good to have a little privacy. Overall we were quite happy with our stay and would probably return but would check out other venues first due to the high prices here.
"Comfortable hotel with good food"

Very comfortable hotel. My room was a good size with very nice bathroom. The staff are helpful and efficient. The booking staff very good and front of house and restaurant personnel were excellent. I had dinner one evening and the good then and at breakfast was very good. There were weddings on both days but that didn't impinge on residents. I didn't try the Spa but I believe it's got a good reputation. I would definitely stay again.
"Mid Week 2 Night Stay"

A romantic getaway for my husband & I.The location is beautiful,we ventured out on a walk with a guide given by hotel, very muddy so wear appropriate walking shoes, was nice surprise seeing llamas in a field! The bedroom & bathroom large & very comfortable, the mattress topper certainly made us sleep well we want one for home now.Downside of room was tea/coffee facilities in wardrobe?very dark & awkward. There was also a door/fire exit to our room that was annoying banging in mornings & evenings, maybe staff use it.we did mention to staff to suggest a soft closer on it. .At breakfast a great selection of cereals, fruits cheeses etc, their own honey made on the estate was delicious, cooked breakfast was nice, shame the poached egg for eggs Benedict not runny. We did eat in the bar area,it is expensive, don't expect huge portions.Cocktails were very nice We each had some spa treatments which were lovely & relaxing. The staff were lovely. We didn't use the gym or pool as machines,as these areas where so small, with no privacy & machines looked out of date. .We drove out to Fox & Hounds at wetherby for a great meal one day which we recommend.
"Excellent Wedding venue"

Stayed as wedding guests. Excellent venue, beautiful location with grand approach and elegant main building. Staff friendly and welcoming, good food and reasonable bar prices. Excellent spa altho' pool on small side if busy. Excellent guide material in reception area giving details of local walks and attractions. We stayed in annexe room which was ideal, spacious, clean and well furnished but if weather adverse would have been a nuisance to walk to main house. Good value as part of wedding deal.
"Post-Wedding Stay @ Wood Hall - a great (but expensive) getaway!"
02/24/14 TheRossman Leeds, United Kingdom
We stayed in a Deluxe Room at Woodhall at the end of January following the wedding of one of my best friends. The hotel itself was pleasant, with staff who were friendly and helpful. The room we stayed in was great - very large indeed with a big bathroom to boot. The bed was very comfortable and the room was furnished very elegantly. At one point I managed to fuse all the lights in the entire room....but we called reception and within 5 minutes someone had come to fix everything. The breakfast was of a decent standard, nothing spectacular but worth having. One thing, I made a speech during the wedding itself and I left my presentation clicker somewhere in the dining room. I called to see if it had turned up, which it hadn't, and they said they would call me either way. They never called me back which was disappointing, but it was my fault in the first place! I would definitely recommend staying here for a romantic weekend/getaway - good access to York, Wetherby and Leeds by car. The Deluxe room was great but very pricey, perhaps too much in my opinion. If you can get a good deal, check it out.

Attended a wedding over the weekend at this hotel. As you drive to the hotel, its location is so impressive. It gives you so much expectation that this is a one of those gems that you wish you had found earlier. The service and welcome from the moment we arrived was fabulous, we even checked in (even though the room wasnt ready) and it was very simple, pleasant and easy. Great wedding and then thought whilst photos were taken we would to our room, the Poplar room. The first impressions are that it is a stunning room, very well laid out, looks quaint with an okay view. Went for the wedding breakfast, great service throughout but one thing you must ask for is the cinnamon ice-cream with the rhubarb frangipane, simply stunning (as was the fudge served with the coffee). We went back to our room, then we noticed the down side. The noise - the room is at the back of the hotel, right next to the kitchen exit where the bottles are chucked in the bin. The staff member came round to check we had enough coffee etc, we mentioned it to him and he would ensure it wouldnt happen late on. Went to bed at midnight, to be woken at 1am and 2am of staff throwing bottles into the bin without a care for the guests. Not great and kept us awake. There is no noise protection in the room. Breakfast was okay, some of it was lukewarm so was disappointed. Great place for a wedding as the staff, location and service throughout is great but not a great place to stop overnight....

I booked in for a spa day with a friend but we were so unimpressed we left before our massages. Having arrived by 9.30, as specified in the booking, we were informed that are treatments would not take place until 12.30. The spa is tiny and has communal showers and changing facilities (I'd last seen these in school PE lessons). The showers were permanently on as apparently the thermostat was broken so the changing rooms were hot and clammy. Add to this a screaming baby and a number of primary school children and the atmosphere was about as far from relaxing as you can get. We tried out the gym, again this was small and there was no instructor on duty to explain how to use the machines. We were unable to book any other treatments to fill in the time so as stress levels were rising by the minute we left. I didn't stay in the hotel so can't comment on it but I'd never go back to the spa.
"Wonderful Wood Hall"
02/15/14 Jonathanwhite19 Hitchin, United Kingdom
Great location, relaxed environment, and friendly staff. We stayed in one of the suites as a treat and it was unique but not quite to standard for the price, so some room for improvement here. We had afternoon tea which was excellent. Breakfast was a bit disappointing as we didn't have it in the main room due to being busy on the weekend we stayed. Ideal for a classic English countryside retreat.
