Hotel staff were lovely and couldn't do enough. The hotel was set in beautiful grounds and magnificent scenery. My only criticism was that the menu in the restaurant was too fussy for my taste. I wanted fish and salad simply cooked and couldn't find that. But if you want to treat yourself it is a special place. The bedroom was so beautiful I didn't want to leave it.

Luxury hotel, great spa, great staff and good food. This was a half way break on a routine journey from London to Scotland albeit it was New Years Day. The hotel is formed from a lovely old mansion with a new build wing. With a bit more attention to inexpensive details this very good hotel could be outstanding. Will we stay again? Yes.

In Yorkshire for mid week break. Hotel was fabulous and spa facilities excellent. Staff were very welcoming and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Food very good but portions small except of breakfast which was a feast. That aside would definitely stay there again.

Hotel Location superb, wonderful panoramic views , suited us very well. Service very good, hotel amenities excellent. Overall cleanliness good. Breakfast was well presented with a large choice of foods to cater for all tastes in elegant restaurant. We did not have evening meals at the hotel so cannot report on this. The Hotel exceeded our expectations and we would definitely stay there again should the opportunity arise. A most enjoyable and memorable stay.

Staff on desk very helpful good meal on Thursday night but quite expensive for what it was. Arrival of big wedding party on Friday morning and when we returned in the evening car park closed off not a lot of enjoyment for any one else. BUT bed not made up waste bins still full in the room. So we told the desk and while we were out that night (you would not want to stay at the hotel for a meal with the large wedding party who were have a very good time) we asked them to make up the bed and clean the room. When we returned the cover were thrown over the bed but it was not made up, which my wife kindly did, and the milk in the jug on the dressing table now resembled yoghurt, pretty bad really!

As a whole had a really lovely stay, my husband and I stayed for 2 nights to celebrate a special birthday and a last break before our first baby arrives early may. The hotel very kindly upgraded us to a suite which was very comfortable. The hotel is set in beautiful surroundings and has a lovely little spa attached. Breakfast was beautiful with a great menu to choose from and we spent an evening just relaxing in the library in front of an amazing log fire. I only have a couple of negatives, mostly the cleanliness of the room. The living space needed a good dusting and the couch was all stained which was a shame because apart from this I would have given full marks.

If you are looking for something special this hotel cannot really be beaten - from everything from the minute we arrived to when we left nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Rooms are luxurious with nice touches like soft seating, magazines and a flat screen tv that is big enough to see. Food and the restaurant is top class - you would not be disappointed.

Stayed one night for a friends wedding reception. Everything went according to plan and was well organised there was plenty of staff available and no hiccups. The staff, without exception were helpful, polite without being OTT. The only downside was the price of the drinks which were excessive even taking into account the type of hotel.

I chose the Wood Hall Spa as a place in Yorkshire near to York, Harrogate, Leeds and lots of other tourist attractions. I was right. It was an excellent choice. The hotel was first-class with ALL the staff eager, willing and able to please. Nothing was too much trouble. Excellent continental and cooked breakfast served in the delightful Restaurant. Plenty to do around Wetherby including walks from the Hotel recommended by the well-experienced staff. We had an excellent 2 Rosette dinner at the Hotel during the week which was excellently cooked and presented with attentive and knowledgeable waiting staff. All in all a very good break. Onl;y a pity we didn't get to enjoy the lovely spa and pool facilities - there just wasn't time!

The standard of the hotel is excellent. The rooms are very comfortable and it is very quiet. It is a venue to get away from it all and to relax. The spa is decent, although the gym is rather dated. The food is good, although the service in the dining room is poor. Breakfast was notably poor. After receiving just some toast and tea in 40 minutes (despite an adundance fo staff), we chose to leave without our main breakfast. In fairness, the response by the manager after we complained was excellent. I cannot fault this at all and it was very pleasing. I would though recommend room service, which was timely and to a good quality. Wetherby and numerous villages are nearly by. I would recommend the Fox and Hounds pub (just outside Wetherby) and Mango in Wetherby itself.

"Investment Manager's Client Meeting 15th April"
04/15/15 Anthwalk78 Bridlington, United Kingdom
My wife and I arrived early enough 0945hrs to exercise our female Bichon Frisé after our 1 hr 39 mins drive from the East Riding Coast, before entering the hotel for a light buffet breakfast at 1000hrs of bacon rolls, croissants and chocolate petite pain and either fresh coffee or tea. Full marks for this!! Our meeting lasted from 1030 to about 1330 hrs, after which we were treated to an excellent buffet lunch of salmon, accompanied by mushroom pasta in cream sauce, boiled potatoes (in their skins) carrot and green beans and a choice of green salad. We moved into the Georgian Room to enjoy this meal and were offered the choice of red or white wine as soon as we were seated. I know that is a matter of taste, but in my opinion, the green beans were a touch raw and therefore a touch tough. The main course was followed by an unusual dessert, a dark chocolate trough filled with fresh cream and fruit. To complete the meal, we had fresh coffee with milk, but we requested and received fresh single cream. It seems that most British Hotels are somewhat ignorant when it comes to serving hot coffee. They will insist on providing cold milk. They should , as the French do, provide hot milk or cream!! Having cold milk cools the coffee so much that it spoils the enjoyment of this beverage. I must also comment on the little room where we of necessity perform our bodily functions. On arrival, the staff pointed me in the direction of the Disabled Toilet (or should I say - The Toilet for the Disabled?) as this was on the arrival floor and the "Gents" was below somewhat steep stairs in the bowels, pardon the pun, of the building and "may not be easily accessed by such a gentleman of advanced age!" - I don't call 78 advanced age - do you? However, the little room was spotlessly clean and the hand washing facility was of a quality to be expected of such an high class establishment, no soggy towels or unhygienic hot air blowers, but pristine disposable 3 ply paper hand towels.

"A most enjoyable stay in a stunning location"
04/14/15 loobyloo4me Horncastle, United Kingdom
I booked this hotel as a birthday treat for my partner - and what a treat it was. Located at the end of a long sweeping drive and set in large, impressive grounds with stunning views, the hotel had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. We had asked for a quiet room and were not disappointed. The view from the window was amazing. My partner went straight down to the pool, where he was greeted by friendly staff who couldn't have been more helpful, offering to work out a programme for him in the fitness suite despite the fact that we were only there for a couple of days. In the evening we enjoyed pre-dinner drinks in the bar before going through to the restaurant for our meal. The menu was varied, offering something for all tastes, and the food was delicious. Whilst I admit that the décor is a little dated, it all added to the ambience of the place and it felt homely rather than stuffy. Breakfast was a leisurely affair; we were not rushed at all and thoroughly enjoyed the variety of food on offer. Then it was back to the pool for my partner whilst I sat with a coffee in the lounge; an impressive room with large comfy sofas and big windows from which to enjoy those fabulous views. The venue is used for business meetings but we were not made to feel out of place in any way. I admit that our experience might have been so different if our visit had been on a weekend with a wedding party to contend with so it might be advisable to check prior to booking. There is a wide variety of things to do in the area, from beautiful walks to historic sites and designer shopping - so much, in fact, that you could spend two weeks here and not run out of things to do. Without exception, the staff were friendly and very helpful; nothing was too much trouble. Thank you to everyone for making our stay so memorable.

I booked a spa package for four people as a treat after a tough few months at work. The package was for an overnight stay, including dinner, bed and breakfast, two spa treatments and a two course lunch. The entire experience was more than we could ever have hoped for, and we were made to feel like royalty by David Maundrill and his team. The food was wide ranging and delicious, service superb and rooms the height of luxury. The spa itself was intimate and relaxing, not too busy which was lovely and the treatments provided the relaxation and escape we were all looking for. If you are searching for a high quality, yet good value experience then I can't recommend Wood Hall strongly enough.

"Tired and in need of a refresh"
04/11/15 Ber909 Cumbrian
We stayed for I night and were underwhelmed by the experience. Last time we stayed the staff made up for, what I though was a tired interior. This time there was no positives from staff, in fact quite the opposite so will not be visiting again. A slow check in because of 'computer issues' was compounded when it too 25 minutes to checkout in the morning for the supposed same reason - no apology! The hotel décor is tired and needs refreshing and our room was incredibly hot (no air con) There was a wedding going on with guests wandering everywhere so I was pleased we were not eating in the hotel. We arrived back after our meal to a disco but thankfully our room was far enough away, we could not hear it. In the morning no paper outside the room and we had to collect from reception (they just had not got around to delivering them to the rooms even though it was 8am). The doors to the cleaning team were open on the corridors and looked pretty uninviting and not a good advert for a supposed luxury hotel. We walked into breakfast to hear 3 staff in a conversation moaning about the management which set the scene. Plenty of choice for breakfast but it was uninviting when it arrived and the buffet was pretty average. So it seems to have lost its way and relying no doubt on its wedding venue status and fantastic position with views over the valley. We will not be staying again until there is a change in ownership.

We are a family of four (children aged 15 and 12) and I booked the hotel for a relaxing night away after a busy day at Xscape in Castleford. When I booked the hotel by telephone I explained the sleeping situation (children too old/big to sleep together in a sofabed) and so booked two twin rooms. I requested interconnecting rooms but was told these were unavailable and that although our twin rooms would be near each other, we would not be next to each other. However, on checking in they had interconnecting rooms available and we were offered these straight away. Check in was easy and efficient with a young man called Che helping us to our rooms with our luggage. The rooms were lovely. It was like a two bedroomed flat with the connecting doors open. Lots of room, very clean, very comfortable beds, gorgeous hot, powerful shower and the little things that matter to woman, such as a full length mirror and a small mirror on the dressing table to apply make-up as well as a plug socket for hairdryer and straighteners in front of a mirror (you'll be surprised how many hotels don't provide sockets near to mirrors which makes drying/straightening hair a problem lol). There was a cafetière with ground coffee in the room which was a lovely idea for us coffee lovers. A fan was also provided in each room. Again, not something normally provided by hotels and a great idea. We booked into the restaurant for our evening meal which was absolutely delicious. Those complaining about the food portions are, I think, being picky. It is an a la carte menu where quality far outweighs quantity. The portions arent huge, but neither are they meant to be. If you want big portions on your plate, choose to eat in the bar. The staff were all lovely. I asked Che if we were able to have a late checkout as we wanted to have a relaxing morning. He said that although the hotel was fully booked for a wedding the day we were checking out, we could have our room until 12.30 at no additional cost. In summary, this hotel is set in a beautiful location, it is an old hotel but for us this adds character and it was certainly extremely well kept, cleaned and maintained. We aim to go back as soon as possible.

"Great venue & service, disappointing food"
04/02/15 Sars34 Huddersfield, United Kingdom
I recently stayed here as part of a corporate training event. It's my 3rd time at Wood Hall and as always the service was excellent - nothing is too much trouble and all our requests were accommodated graciously - including changing the evening menus and changing room layouts etc. The setting of the hotel is stunning - a sweeping drive from Linton village and the hotel itself set in impressive grounds with fantastic views - it never fails to impress. The interior of the hotel itself is a little dated, as has been pointed out before, but has a great "home from home" cosy feel which is far more important to me as a guest than new and fancy furniture and fittings. The one disappointment was the food - at both lunch and evening meal I was left disappointed - if I had been paying I would have been even more disappointed. I can only describe the food as OK, nothing special, but at the price charged would expect much better. Overall though this is a great venue and I will be back

"Lovely hotel for a relaxing break"

Just returned from lovely 2 night break at Wood Hall Hotel and Spa. Fantastic, friendly and attentive staff who really made us feel welcome. The food was great, especially breakfast and the spa facilities excellent. Pretty grounds, which we would have explored if the weather had been better! Great location for a visit to York or Harrogate but sadly Harewood House wasn't open - too early in the season. We will definitely return later in the year.

"excellent visit marred by ridiculously small portions of overpriced food."
03/28/15 Judgedreadful Sunderland, United Kingdom
Lovely setting, friendly and efficient staff and well proportioned and equipped bedroom. HOWEVER, whole visit was overshadowed by pretentious restaurant menu. My main course comprised one quarter of sea bream and 5shallots. When I asked if this was it I was told it was although afterward complaining I was brought a dish of veg. No potatoes. Cost £21. Partner's starter was 3 single bite sized pieces of mackerel(seriously). Cost £8. When I complained the manager told me itwas "supposed to be a mouthwatering experience!" as if I should be grateful for the chef's talent. I said it should!d also be a meal. Very pretentious.
