Amaya Hills - Kandy

The treasure of this place is the lovely quiet simple rooms with the marvellous tranquil setting. Great place to just be. (But bring ur own hair conditioner). Also dinner is buffet style and a bit cruise ship like with the big crowd etc

As we learned in Sri Lanka, you need to automatically knock 1 star off of every hotel. The view from Amaya Hills is amazing and you need to choose this hotel for the setting alone. The view from the pool/lobby/restaurant is a 5 and it is very hard to argue with the location of the hotel. Our room was a little musty and the shower didn't drain well and […] we got no help with either. The overall room amenities were nice though, just a little darker than we were led to believe from the stock photos. The restaurant was good enough, but not outstanding so don't expect huge things from them. The lobby and common spaces all seem well-cared for and the pool was nice. The major detraction for us was a wedding that took place on night 2 of our 3 night stay. They played unbelievably loud music until 1am, and despite repeated calls from me, the staff was completely unresponsive. When you're on an active vacation and looking to get out and do things in the morning you don't necessarily want to be up until 1am. We would have tried harder to switch rooms, but unless they could have moved us to the opposite wing of the hotel it would not have mattered and we didn't really want (and shouldn't have to) to go through the hassle of moving at 1030 pm. Overall a very good hotel. The service was good and the location and views are incredible. The room was comfortable and clean. I do wish they provided a shuttle bus to Kandy though, as they charge a ridiculous amount for a car service and very few three-wheelers come to the hotel. The food in the restaurant was good but in the evening it's worth noting […] that there is an a la carte menu available, which is cheaper than the buffet, but they don't automatically give you the menus so we didn't realize initially. Probably better for couples than families - views are very romantic and there's not a lot to do for kids. Read more

After the heat and humidity of Colombo this was a wonderful change. Spring-like weather, beautiful hilltop location with a view over the valley, surrounding hills and sunset. Reception was well organised and friendly. Welcome was special with a flower motif on the floor in the entry to the room, welcome basket and fabulous valley and mountain view out […] through the french windows and balcony. WiFi was complimentary and worked! Main restaurant was large and a little impersonal, with the usual buffet, but the a la carte food was quite good and the Sri Lankan "thali" (selection of individual local dishes) was enough to feed three people! The location of the hotel is fabulous but ........ It is in a very tired state of repair. Our bathroom was awful - broken toilet seat, dirty, mould everywhere on the bath sealing etc. and on complaining was told our room was typical of the rooms available. Not good! An excellent hotel for an end of school trip to India offering a little luxury and fantastics scenery. If there was a rather 'drainy smell' in some rooms that was made up for by the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff.

The reception area is very presentable. We were given a suite to accommodate our children with us. This was in desperate need of decorating. The sofas in the living area were very dirty. The bahroom was old and not pleasant at all. I was generally very disappointed with the hotel. My children loved the pool area. The staff were very friendly.

We stayed their for a quick night. Provided an interesting look at a Sri Lankan resort, with either tour groups from the rest of Asia, or locals. Being on the hills gave it a nice view and cool weather. Bathroom clean but not well maintained. Don't mind coming again, if no other options in Kandy itself.

The views are stunning and the rooms excellent. Your stay may also coincide with a visit from Thai Buddist Monks, like ours. The hotel is high up on a hill overlooking Kandy and is generally excellent. The price for the views is it's inaccessibility - it's a very long winding journey up to the hotel so is not a great place to use if you're going to […] go out and explore Kandy and the surrounding areas. Wir waren nur eine Nacht auf unserer Rundreise dort. Hotel wird auch von Reisegruppen genutzt. Reichhaltiges Frühstücksbüffet. Toller Panoramablick und Pool. Anlage aber bereits etwas älter. Für einen Zwischenstopp aber zu empfehlen!

We only had 2 days, and only had time of the Botanical Garden, and the Tempel of Tooth. We visited also the oldest Hotel in Kandy, The Queens...nice an old. The Botanical Graden were fantastic. The Hotel itself had only one restaurant, not always good, if you do not like buffet. But the Buffet had good food. Pooleare were nice, and we had som Ayuvedien […] treatment. Were good massasje, but old rooms, could be repainted, and done more modern. But all in all, a nice stay, and good tea.
