Superb hotel. Would recommend to anyone needing somewhere to stay in Manchester. Right next to Picadily station and a 10min walk to the centre of town. Rooms were very nice; comfy beds and nice bathrooms (separate shower and bath). Buffet breakfast nice, but a little pricey. Had dinner in the hotel bar, food was fine. Overall good, however, the closet was not convenient. The hanging rod was short and arranged front to back so it as difficult to retrieve garments from the back. There was little room to store folded garments. Therefore you have to work out of your suitcases. This is a high consideration with double occupancy. Overall I liked my stay. The room description was sort of deceiving, it stated floor to ceiling windows and "city view". I was not given a "city view" room upon checkin (City View rooms are clearly indicated on the door with a "City View" tag on the door), nor floor to ceiling windows. I really didn't have time to complain since I was attending a concert […] that night and just wanted to grab lunch, shower, and then go to the concert. This "deceiving" seems to happen often with Hotels.com rooms though, I booked previously with Hotels.com in other destinations and was given a sub-par room, but it was rectified when I pushed the issue at the hotel or with Hotels.com. I shouldn't have to go through such loops to get what is advertised. Overall, my stay at MacDonald was fine, the staff was friendly, the room was clean (the rug could've used a shampoo'ing tho), the shower was AWESOME, and the AC worked fine. I would stay here again, if I was staying on a longer stay though I would push the issue for a city view facing room... Read more

The hotel is just 300 meters away from Manchester Piccadilly Station, very convenient for airport access and other rail travel. Central areas of the city with abundant shopping, food and entertainment are just 10-15 minutes away on foot. The room was simply huge, especially for an European hotel and also very clean and well-furnished. I had just two breakfasts at the hotel, which were great, but the menu was the same both days. Since I was very busy, I did not have a chance to explore their spa or other facilities, except for the bar downstairs which was OK. We stayed at this hotel in May, 2011. Our room was spacious, clean, modern and very comfortable. It was also cleaned professionally every day while we were out. The rooms are sound-proofed, so street noise was not a problem. We only have two small complaints--1) If you get noisy neighbors, which we did, you do hear their music, TV or conversations. […] I suppose it is the same with most hotels. Also, we heard music from an event taking place at the event hall. However, overall, our room was quiet. 2) Our room did not have enough closet space or a chest. We arrived at 9:30am and even though the hotel was very busy the lady at reception was very helpful and friendly and there was no problem with having a room ready for us. Although we had no difficult locating the hotel, the one-way system made it hard to access by car and we were in a hurry. I phoned the hotel and the concierge (Daniel) came out to the car and guided us, then parked the car in the hotel car park, as we were rushing to get ready for a wedding. Fantastic service.

Stayed for 2 nights on business trip. Reception staff very politre and helpful; restaurant staff indifferent. I did not meet housekeeping staff but room was clean and tidy. Comfortable bed and linen. Size of room was a pleasant surprise - larger than expected. Room rate was reasonable for location and amenities however I thoiught breakfast was extortionate […] for a meal that was no different from a Premier Inn. Room service meal was average - potatoes cold and sald soggy and tired. No pint in complaining as it would mean waiting another hour for a replacement. Perhaps covers on hot food would help. This is an imposing modern hotel with seemingly endless numbers of rooms. However, the staff, decor and general feel make it seem quite a cosy place to stay. The room was spacious, very clean and the bed very comfortable. Our shower was hangover-busting amazing! We stayed one night after a gig at the Apollo which is just a few minutes walk away. Shops, […] bars and restaurants are equally as close, although in the other direction! The downsides; the parking is £17 for 24 hours, breakfast is £15 pp and the bar charges around £4.20 a pint, it does seem like money is being siphoned out of your wallet at every turn. However, the parking is secure and in the city centre so probably is on par with the usual NCP / Q-Park prices, as you get 24 hours so it leaves time to go shopping after breakfast. The bar is nicely decorated with table service, but is still overpriced. £15 for breakfast made me laugh, we went to a lovely cafe in town and had an amazing breakfast for half that with change for lunch! Good quality room comfy bed - decent bathroom and decent sized rooms - food is a bit expensive and the carparking is outrageously expensive. Sockets for laptops would be usefule near the table rather than on the opposite side of the room. This resulted in me doing furniture removals... not something I enjoy doing at the end of a working day!

I stayed here for one night before running a conference for 140 the next day. The bedroom was very comfortable and clean. We ate in the restaurant which was delicious with friendly staff. I also had time to relax in the sauna beforehand which was a huge bonus.

Unlike my previous stay in room 524, which was marred by rowdy guests in the middle of the night, this time around I was upgraded to a room further away from the lifts. Whilst there was still the occasional noisy guest passing by in the evening it was nothing compared to the commotion on my previous visit, and nothing worth reporting to the management. […] The thing I really dislike with many hotels is the heating/ventilation control - why have a controller in the room when it does absolutely nothing at all? It always has to take a call to reception to get it changed. If left unchanged, and when the sun blazes through the windows during the day, the room gets uncomfortably hot. All said and done, I will use this hotel again and it is currently the preferred hotel on my frequent business trips to Manchester due to its location. We arrived on 28th March 2013, getting into the car park at the rear of the hotel is not easy due to the one way streets. Parking is £17.50 a day. Warm and helpful welcome from reception. Firstly the air conditioning control in our room (room 715) was faulty and kept resetting to heating mode, making the room unbearable to be in, especially when we […] were trying to sleep. We complained four times to reception about this problem, but the reoccurring problem persisted the entire time. Secondly, we had a bad experience in the relaxation room on day one of our 2 day spa weekend. This was caused by two women talking and laughing loudly in the relaxation room (we suspect they had been drinking). I asked them politely that if they wanted to chat they should leave the room. This resulted in a rude response from one of the women, both then left the room only to return 2 minutes later with two lads and all four of them proceeded to be loud and obnoxious. We complained to the spa reception manager about our experience and how intimidated and stressed the incident had caused us to feel. I would suggest that it be made absolutely clear to clients that the relaxation room is a quiet area and that they also move the drinks service table to the day room area. So overall we didn't really get the benefit out of the two days as we had anticipated, which is a shame as we do like the hotel and its location. Read more

Very helpful staff on reception, good size room with top quality bathroom with full size bath and separate shower enclosure. Rooms well fitted out with flat screen, mini bar, Bose deck with iPhone connector ( not iPhone 5), trouser press. Would happily stay here again and only 3 mins walk from Piccadilly station.

Did not replace complimentary tea/biscuits on 2nd day of stay, a minor point. As a treat for my 40th a group of 4 of us decided to stay here. On first impressions walking in we'd made the right choice and were able to book in as soon as we got there. Our rooms were on the second floor, it was a little disconcerting when we arrived at the lifts to hear people screaming in one of them! It was stuck between floors! This was the […] beginning of the issues we had. On arriving our rooms we were impressed, very spacious, with all you could want, from a hairdryer, kettle, ironing board and iron to a fridge. We also had a door into the next room which worked great as we were all together, but it's then that we realised there was no actual heating!! Both rooms had thermostats on the walls which were constantly flashing a spanner, we contacted reception, twice to say the rooms were cold, they then came up with 2 portable heaters, which turned out didn't work! We should have realised something was wrong when we were walking to our rooms as there were a few of these heaters dotted around the corridor!! We eventually got heaters that worked but they did little for the size of the rooms! So to cut a long story short, it was the next day before we realised, the hairdryer didn't work, the fridge didn't work and the kettle only worked if you held down the button. So my opinion is a 4* hotel with 3* facilities. The staff on the other hand are very nice and helpful, they do need to sort the heating situation won't be staying there in winter again. Read more
