Loved the Grand Hotel. Perfect spot to see other locations like Iririki Island as the water taxi leaves from the shore right next door and runs 24 hours. The pool is beautiful as is the sun deck. No beach though. Beaches are hard to come by on Efate and when you do find them (on tours) you will need reef shoes for the coral beaches. Am not a 'casino' […] person but it's there if you are - small by Australian standards. The hotel is run by a melbourne company so the standard of staff training is high. The Grand Hotel had a great location in the heart of Port Vila and only a 10 minute drive from the airport. Fantastic views over the bay and the breakfasts buffets provide a very good choice of food. We stayed at the Grand Casino and Hotel for 10 days and we are very pleased. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, the staff very friendly and helpful, the location highly convenient. In the centre of the town and walking distance to most of the markets, shops and restaurants, local activities and Irirki Island. The food at the Hotel was amazing with reasonable prices! The hotel provides a tour guide who is a friendly and really helpful person. The hotel was located in the centre of town and close to the ferry to Iririki Resort. With the balcony door closed there was no noise from outside. Internet was free for wireless connection usable in your room, though slow for downloading. Breakfast was excellent.

Very good location - only a 5 minute walk into the centre of Port Vila, 20 minute drive from the airport. Staff very helpful with bookings of tours and recommending of local attractions. Hotel lobby could be improved - smells like stale smoke, but the rooms are very clean and fresh with great views over Mele Bay. Room was comfortable, balcony was nice, […] safe was included in room. Bathroom was clean and cosy, with a great view from it onto the bay. Continental breakfast included was great - lots of fresh fruit, pastries, eggs, baked beans, toast, yoghurt, museli etc - certainly won't go hungry! Lunch and dinner were tasty and very reasonably priced too, I did not use the Casino - it is only one room located next to the lobby (can still smoke in there - probably why the lobby smells). Pool is nice - has a poolside bar which is useful. Recommended for solo travellers, couples and business people, certainly do not recommend for families as it is too small and not 'kid friendly'. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating. The food at the hotel is excellent. Didn't have a bad meal (lunch or dinner!). The pool area is great. You can sit back, relax or go for a swim with beautiful views across the harbour & of Iririki Island Resort. Tours can also be booked straight from the hotel at the tours desk open every day. I took my elderly mum to Vanuatu and stayed at this lovely hotel. It was in a beautiful position, on the waters edge with a beautiful pool and with restaurants & tourist shops all within close proximity. Staff were friendly and obliging particularly Esther, Collette & Charlz on reception, Mary in the restaurant and Jeffrey and the weekend waitress whose […] name escapes me, at the pool bar. The only negative at the hotel was that they ran out of full strength coffee in the rooms and we had only decaf. We weren't interested in the casino but enjoyed everything else about the hotel.The markets are very very close making it easy to walk there for fruit or coconuts or a very cheap meal. Hotel food and breakfast was excellent. Could only seem to get wi-fi in the downstairs public areas but that could just have been me. My mum loved sitting on the balcony watching the boats and gorgeous water whilst I lingered in the pool doing the same. Very lovely experience. Would definitely return.Check out Round Vanuatu Tours which is a local tour & is the first that you come to on the left as you walk to town. We gleaned so much info about the islands on this tour which helped understand the people. Don't forget your swimsuit - the blue lagoon and beaches are just divine. Booked a Panorama suite but got room 114 which was not equal to others. View of the roof and carpark and balcony at waste height to the roof level. Windows only half height where all other Panorama suites had floor to ceiling windows. After 3 nights I requested a change of room and given a level 4 room that was fantastic. All the staff were friendly, and the hotel was in a great position in town just 100 meters from all the shops, restaurants, fruit markets, bars, dive shops and about 200 meters to ANZ & Wespac banks. Pro's: Probably the best hotel in Port Vila if you are not into roughing it. It is pretty much your standard 4 Star Hotel by Australian standards. Pool is small but quaint and has a great view. I spent hours sitting by the pool looking out to the ocean. Try to get a Panorama Suite or a 1 bedroom suite - I stayed in both - great! Con's: Staff are […] lovely but can tend to be a bit slow on poolside service and occasionally forget to bring your order. Its not a huge deal as their large smiles and politeness makes up for it. The food - the food is terrible and quite expensive. There is very limited options from both the restaurant and even less on the room service menu. It cost a fair bit (between $20 and $30 per meal) but for the price, its very basic and not the nicest. Parts of the hotel need renovating, and when I was there, the hallway to the poolside toilets was covered in crumblings of what use to be the ceiling, yes, it had fallen on the floor. I was there for 5 nights and the entire time this was not cleaned up. You had to walk over the top of the rubble to get to the bathroom... at first I use to cover my head in fear that it might actually fall on top of me!! Other than that, the hotel was pretty nice. My wife and I just got back today from our one week honeymoon at The Grand. It was very nice and pretty much what we expected. Friendly staff and very nice room with a great view on the balcony. Having access to their sister resort, The Iririki Resort, was great because we had access to all their snorkeling gear and kayaks for free. Located right on the harbour in the centre of Port Vila, the Grand was the perfect base for the enjoyment of the town and surrounding attractions. The partner realtionship with the Iririki Resort across the bay was great as we were able to use both facilities as if they were one hotel. We also had free use of the kayaks, catamarans and snorkelling gear […] at the Iririki Resort and would sometimes relax by their pool as well as ours. The regular free 5 minute ferry service bewteen the hotel and the resort made it just like walking next door. The whole hotel smelled like cigarettees. The first room we got had the same smell and they moved us to the room next door. Not much better but it seems the entire hotel has the same problem.
