We loved the very spacious suite and we saved some money having the kitchen area. The location was great with Wal Mart and Subway right across the street if we needed anything. We were very pleasantly surprised at the coziness and the space to spread out. The price was fantastic. We even extended our stay here because it was such a great value!

If you are a family of four, one of their kitchenettes with a murphy bed is a great option. we had two separate rooms with a microwave, coffee maker and one of the dorm sized mini fridges with a freezer compartment and kitchen sink with plates, silverware, and dish soap.. The kids liked the murphy bed, it was easy to convert the living area each evening, […] and the rooms stayed toasty warm even during a minus 20 degree cold snap. The reason we chose the Sun God was 1) price and 2) the Taos Ski Valley shuttle- which made it possible for the 3 skiers in our group to take the 45 minute ride to the mountain each morning, leaving the non skier with our car free to explore Taos on her own. This worked well, the shuttle dropped us right back at the room in the evening The hotel is an older model and is perfect if you want to help yourself and bring some of your own food in (Alberstons grocery is just down the street). They have good free wifi and free parking. If you want room service, an on site restaurant, or scenery, this is not the hotel for you. The staff were friendly but did leave the office unattended on occasion, we had to wait for them to check in the first day (1/2/2013) , and again when we needed their help during the week. They did send maintenance over to the room on two occasions when asked for extra bedding and towels without any problems, though, and they were very cooperative when we changed our plans - even with an Expedia prepaid reservation. My family and I stayed in a suite for 3 nights during the 2012/13 ski season. The suites have multiple rooms for added privacy and have personalized touches based on the southwestern sun god motif. The overall quality of the room was good, but there were some minor deferred maintenance issues (e.g., water faucet gaskets needed replacing, sticking doors, […] etc). I was surprised how warm the room was, even at -10 deg F outside. Exterior hot tub is nice after a full day of skiing but was challenging to use at below freezing temps. WiFi internet was included at no charge. There is also a city shuttle bus pickup at this hotel which runs directly to Taos Ski Valley ($1 charge each way). Very good value for the price. We stayed at the Sun God Lodge for he third time this winter as we headed up to the ski valley. This year we upped to the kitchenette room. Arriving during Christmas last year limited or eateries to one, so I figured the kitchenette would help. Room was clean and reach for our arrival. When I arrived before the normal check-in time, the room was ready because I called the day before citing my early 3 p.m. dinner at Thanksgiving. While I was waiting for my key cards, another couple did a quick check-in and got their cards. They were back in 5 minutes looking flustered and unhappy. They has opened the door to find a couple on the bed...it […] was the wrong room. The owner was very apologetic and took her time finding the correct card keys. After I walked to my room towards my room, the owner followed me and handed me another envelope with the correct cards. She apologized but I was left with a very bad feeling. The Sun God Lodge is an older motel and in relatively good shape for it's age. We stayed in the older portion. I found the room just ok for the price. No frills and the bathroom is so small, not a vanity to even put anything on. The staff was very nice and helpful. Some things I would suggest are better lighting in the room. Impossible to read as the […] lamps did not put out much light. Also, put a cabinet under the sink. The pipes under the sink showing are nasty and dirty. Put some kind of over the stool racks for guests to put items on. The room was quiet, we didn't hear the guests next door nor street traffic. The hotel staff were really helpful and pleasant and the hotel was really quiet despite being close to the main road. The rooms however were very dirty and tired. The bathroom had chipped tiles and bath and the bedroom had not been dusted in a long time. The bed was the most uncomfortable I had slept on and was soft, lumpy, squeaky and you could feel […] every spring in your back as you lay. This is a great place for college kids, the bowling team, whoever, to all stay together in one place, in inexpensive rooms. There are lots of nice outside places to congregate, and it is very cute-looking. Realize it is older, the bath is what my Mom used to call "funky," and if you are used to standardized beds/decor/comfort level, like Hampton Inn […] and Suites, this won't be the same. Definitely 2 star - more shabby than chic - but, well priced. The young man, who was the night manager, was great. He gave us a room which had a sitting area and small kitchenette. Decor needs an update; but, generally, it was as advertised. Close to plaza and on the main drag.

There was no hot running water and temperature at night was 30 as well as in the morning. Rooms need a big uplift as well as bathroom as extremely small. Everything is outdated. Motel 6 is better.

Pleasantly surprised at the hotel! It was clean, lovely and far enough from the street that it was nice and quiet. We went to ski at Taos during the Christmas holidays. We were looking for a quaint, comfortable inexpensive hotel. Unfortuantely inexpensive was the only promise fulfilled. There was no temperature control to the rooms and the pillows were circa 1970. The landscaping and the outside of the hotel was very cute. We stayed at the Sun God Lodge in Taos for 4 nights. When we are in Taos we always stay at the SGL and have never been disappointed. The room was great and the beds comfortable. The only thing missing was a microwave and refrigerator. The office night clerk popped popcorn for us in the office microwave and since it was cold outside, the cold cuts and […] milk were naturally cooled in a patio chair. The room was fine, but the promise of WLAN access in the rooms was not fulfilled. After a first complaint in the afternoon, I was told that the system would be rebooted later; in the evening I was told that in the part of the motel, where our room was located, no WLAN was provided.

The hotel staff were informative, courteous, welcoming and helpful. The room was on the smaller side but had everything I needed. I enjoyed the grounds. The hotel had a nice feel. Although breakfast was not included, the hotel provided coffee and donuts and a coffee shop was located across the street.
