"Good room for the price."
Good cheap room. Nothin fancy but beds were comfy and room was clean. Good location for a quick drive to shopping/dining in Taos or head south to ski Sipapu which is why we stayed here.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We would stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice for the Price"
We were looking for something inexpensive for one night in Taos. This motel fit the bill nicely. it's an older property and there are some of the usual quirks that one might expect from a cheap motel in a place like Taos. The service was very good, cleanliness well above merely acceptable, decor was unexpectedly nice. All in all, a good experience for […] a low price. Would definitely recommend. The room is a lot worst in person. No microwave. No mini fridge. The room where the ice machine was smelled like natural gas. The bed was alright.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Taos on a budget."
Classic Route 66 motel, a bit dated but comfortable enough for a one or two night stay. Price was right. Quite dim lighting except for bathroom. Beds need replacement. You didn't come to Taos for television so overlook the 20" with bad cable. Well located and easy to find on the main highway.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful photos online but facility needs repairs"
The staff was nice and accommodating upon arrival. We arrived late and they were there to greet us. My son and I were in Taos to visit family so we were only in the room to sleep. If you don't require the latest and greatest then you might find this motel adequate. I had no problem with it as it seemed clean enough and did not smell of cigarettes.Genuine Expedia guest review
Was close to the center of town. Allowed us to enjoy the downtown area.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Tiny, old, but cheap!"
Tiny rooms. Very few amenities. Uncomfortable bed. Quiet and cheap.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Nice staff. Grounds looked clean and tidy. Drawers in room not clean. Bathroom tub area could use some repair. No soap. Only two flat pillows.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Stay at Sun God Lodge"
Enjoyed our stay. Issues: very poor lighting in room. Pillows on bed too small or thin. Good things: room very clean. Friendly staff. Hot tub. Great location. Good price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Quiet, nice bed, pleasant"

"Convenient Location for overnight stay but a bit too pricy"
Rooms are very small. Good for overnight sleep but not for any business work (no desk in room)Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Comfortable and accessible to most of Taos"
We stayed here while visiting the Taos Wool Festival. The hotel staff were helpful and pleasant, the beds comfortable, and hotel quiet. Lots of hot water. We had a kitchenette which was great to keep our drinks cold. I had to borrow a hair dryer as the room didn't have one, but the woman manning the reception desk brought it to me herself right away. […] If you need a ground room, you might want to call ahead as there's no elevator for handicapped people. We were fortunate to get a ground floor (2 handicapped people), but friends of ours who went with us weren't as lucky and they had stairs to climb to their room. They both have difficulty with stairs but managed. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Okay for overnight stay"
Very basic and very small rooms but clean and has easy access to Taos. A bit too pricy for what it has to offer.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Be sure to stay in the newer section"
The first room we were assigned to was totally unacceptable. Some parts of the lodge are old, however, upon explaining to the manager, Joe, that we couldn't stay in that room, we were given a very nice room in the newer part of the hotel. The manager was most accommodating and if it weren't for him and his hospitality, we would not have stayed there. […] We ended up spending 3 days there. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Sun God Lodge is NOT a lodge"
Sun God Lodge is NOT a lodge, but a shabby old motel with room doors opening to the exterior. The bed was poor and the bedding was worse. All the paving is in very bad shape and needs to be redone, both the driveways and sidewalks. The room interior was okay; you can tell it was once rather charming. Wifi worked well in my room. Front desk staff were […] very friendly and helpful. The air conditioner was extremely loud and could not be adjusted at all. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Hoping it gets better"
The owners were friendly and I would love to see this place thrive. It needs some attention, from the parking lot, to the shower curtain liners and hooks to even dusting the window frames....to call it a kitchenette based on the fact that it has a microwave and a minifridge is somewhat stretching it although there were a few dishes to use and a very […] small stained sink. It is a shame because for the same price in Albuquerque we were in the Homestead Suites with an indoor pool and a kitchen with cooktop and full size fridge. "Quaint hotel in a very busy place"
This quiet and beautiful lodge was relaxing the moment you get there. The staff is wonderful and the grounds are beautiful! Our favorite place was the courtyard at one of the many covered tables. As stated before this is a motorcycle friendly place. We will be back.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Three day stay at the Sun God"
This is an older adobe motel and is really quiet. There is no plumbing noise. We have stayed here before and will stay again. The rooms are attractive but the motel does not offer breakfast. There is a restaurant within walking distance which offers good breakfasts and historic Taos is a short drive away and offers a variety of restaurants, shops and […] art galleries. "Charming decor, light on amenities"
It is a very quaint looking hotel, close to many restaurants and easy to find on the main street through Taos. No breakfast, one pillow per person, no tissues in the room--so a bit light on expected amenities, but it was quiet and the price we got was very reasonable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Just like the picture"
Motel is exactly like picture. Reminds me of Route 66 in the 60's. Their place clean, neat and a wonderful grassy yard to watch the sunset. But---- There was not an air conditioner, none to be found. The online description does not tell us this. I called the desk and they said keep the window open as it gets cooler at night. We did this but with only […] one window there was no cross ventilation. The window is next to door so no security. I am sure winter would be better since i saw a small heater. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"New Mexican style"
I liked the fact that all of the buildings were in the traditional New Mexican style. I think the window could add little more privacy by adding a curtain because the blind seemed to allow too much space from the window.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Old-time Taos property, okay for a nights sleep, sorta', kinda'.. Definitely dated, if you don't mind that. Could use new carpet and a bit of updating.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Close to hospital"
Charming décor, lovely courtyard. I had a room with no air conditioning, did not feel comfortable with leaving the window open. Thank goodness the weather was cool. I asked to be moved to another room but got no response. I would go back, but I would request air conditioning before accepting a room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Motel was fine but the computer was down so they hadn't gotten our reservation but had a room for us and were very nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The air conditioner did not work and the towels on the rack were tore. The bed was mad but it look like someone had laid on it and it was wrinkled.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Pictures looked way better"
Apparently there is a new section which might be nice. We got the older section which is in need of repairs. Box springs on beds have brown patches and worn through sections of material just as you would expect on your tires if you got 80,000 miles out of them. Lighting was very poor. We purchased light bulbs from Wallmart across the street in order […] to see what was in our suitcases. There was dirty sections on the outside of the tub that a simple wipe would have removed. I did it. In the corners you could tell no one had been there in a while. You could smell the room before you open the door. a little funky like old school cleaning chemical mixed with funk. And do not look outside the bathroom window. It opens to a beautiful view of the mountains but do not look at the ground below the window. That was room 108. No bugs, beautiful courtyard, nice people everywhere, and beautiful country that could not be spoiled by the historic Sun God experience. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"has potential ... but"
It was quiet and had some nice features. Unfortunately, the beds were very old, sagging and uncomfortable. They had foam toppers presumably to hide the poor condition of the mattresses but this was not a fix. There was also a lot of hair on the floors, sheets, towels and bedspread and the carpets were not well cleaned either ... kind of gross. "Good deal, surprisingly nice place"
We search for this kind of "wagon wheel" motel when traveling in the U.S. because of the history and "kitch" of such lodgings. These motels should be part of the National Historic Register for catching the essence of post-World War II car travel in America. Anyway, we had seen the Sun God Lodge 30 years ago when in Taos and darned if it was not still […] there. There are quite a number of rooms and there was a similar variety of lodgers, from families with kids to old hippies, most everyone being friendly. We liked our room, which was reasonably clean and had a good, firm bed. The adobe style of the place was pleasing, including the 2 lit wall alcoves with small sculptures of a javelina pig in one and a sandstone castle in the other, Cute! The maid service was slow in making up our room on the one morning we requested it and it was hard for us to communicate well with the service staff because of their difficulty speaking English, but those were minor problems, as was the hot tub that broke just after we arrived (but with immediate action on a holiday to get it fixed). So, if you're looking for Holiday Inn-type lodgings with a pool and room service, forget this place. But, if you love Americana and the adventure of staying in an historic motel, have at it! "Very relaxing environment"
I was looking for a reasonably priced place to stay while visiting Taos. I certainly found it at the Sun God Lodge. Very pleased with our room. The beds were comfy, service great, beautiful, big, park-like courtyard to sit and relax in. Close to the Plaza. I highly recommend it !Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The bed was in bad shape, old and has seen better days, everything looked fragile in the room plus cracks on the walls and the a.c. unit was not good at all.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Quiet place, away from the downtown area."
The Sun God Lodge is a decent place with reasonable rates for Taos. It is not a five star hotel, probably not four star either, but fits the bill for comfort and affordability. The staff people were all nice. The one thing that might be off putting is the fact that it is on the edge of town, so you can't walk to the shops and art galleries.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Get what you pay for"
Previous reviews stated low water pressure but I couldn't imagine it to be as low as it was. our hotel was in a good location. since Taos is small, it was not a far drive from the plaza. the room was decent but the bed was not as comfortable as I would have liked. the grounds are pretty and well manicured.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Uncomfortable beds/bedding that also gave us scabies! What a nightmare. Liked the size of the rooms, but that was about it. Would not stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Normally we stay in close to the plaza when we stay in Taos so we can walk to the various restaurants etc. We decided to try a a different location and chose this lodge by previous reviews and by the price. We were pleasantly surprised with the accommodations. The room was actually a suite with plenty of room. It was clean and although it could use […] some updating it was a pleasant stay. It is within walking distance to a local restaurant which has a pretty good breakfast and a gourmet hamburger place where they serve beer and wine. Most other restaurants will need to be driven to. "Hot Child in the City"
The hotel is cute and homey, and affordable for Taos. The heat was on in our room when we arrived. We turned it off and went to eat dinner. When we came back and the heat was still on. We saw that the baseboard heater had been disassembled by a previous guest, but was still pumping out the heat. The front desk was closed by the time we realized that […] the heater was not going to turn off. In the morning, the front desk was still closed when we left at 7:45. Overall a good value. Housekeeping was a little sketchy; clean in the middle, hit and miss around the edges (they left my used paper/plastic cups from the night before as well as ice buckets with melted ice), but generally worth the price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"It's OK...that's all I can say."
The hotel is older and the rooms are small. The room was cheap, so I guess you get what you pay for. My room wasn't made on the 2nd day of my stay because "housekeeping called off". If you expect to check out early and get a receipt, that's not going to happen. The office is closed. It appears that the Lodge is run by family and they were very nice. "Imagine sleeping on a bed made of cardboard"
I really wanted to come away from this experience saying how simple, unpretentious and sweet our room was (because it was), but there was a problem that interferes with my being able to say that. The problem was the bed, and we didn't understand the problem until we got into the bed late at night after being out for the evening. This was the most uncomfortable […] and unwelcoming bed that my husband and I have ever slept in. FYI: We camp and do fine on the ground on a thermarest pad; we're both world travelers and can make do with a variety of travel conditions. This bed was rock hard; no give whatsoever. Like bundled up cardboard inside old fashioned blue & white ticking. (The blanket was pretty ancient and unattractive, but we could deal with.) The mattress was about 6" thick, certainly no more than 8"; the likes of which I haven't seen for about forty years. We couldn't sleep in any position without being uncomfortable. In the morning I went to talk with the manager of the hotel. When I mentioned the mattress, there was another hotel guest standing behind me who chimed in: "Our room had a brand new tempurpedic mattress. It was great!" The manager proceeded to tell me that since he bought the place he's replaced 50 of the rooms with great new mattresses. We had stayed on a Sunday night. There could not have been more than 10 cars parked at the hotel. "Well, why didn't you put us in one THOSE rooms?" I asked. He didn't have an answer. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
