Had a wonderful experienced. The hotel manager, Gasper ansd his wife Cindy were extremely accomodating, friendly, courteous and KIND!!!! As a bonus, we met some wonderfully interesting people during our stay at the Lodge. Also, the Lodge was closely situated to the places that we had planned to visit during our stay in Taos. We shall definitely reserve […] a room at the Sun God Lodge upon subsequent trips to Taos. Again, Gasper and Cindy, thank you for making the first leg of our Road Trip such a memorable one, you two are superb!!!!! Greg & CAL Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Needed more value to appreciate..."
The room would have been a good value at under $50. It had no AC and was very small. The bed was Motel 6 quality. It was right on the main road and you had to leave the window open to keep cool so it was very noisy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Could Have Been Better"
The room and check-in personnel were great. The only thing that was not good, was the mattress. The room was clean and it was relatively quiet.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Sun God Lodge"
I booked this room at the last minute (1 week) for a family reunion. I liked the price, and when we arrived in Taos, I knew I would be running late due to the reunion. The person that answered the phone was very pleasant and customer service oriented. I explained we would be late checking in. I was concerned about my room being given away due to the […] Pow Wow in town thata weekend. He assured me that would not be the case. He told me he would personally be there until 11pm. We arrived at 9:30 pm and the check in was very good, and the person at the desk very nice! He gave us information about the Pow Wow and Taos Pueblo. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"July 4 th"
I loved the motel, very clean, comfortable. It is very old so they still have old style T.V. in them, but I really did not go to watch T.V. so that was fine. It is a moderate climate so there is not much use for air conditioning, but I felt like I needed some. It is a beautiful place with a very lovely courtyard. From he courtyard we watched the most […] beautiful fire works display that I have seen in years. It is so quaint, and cozy that you feel totally relaxed. My fiancée was disappointed that there was no breakfast, but there again that was not something that bothered me as there are plenty of places to get something within walking distance. I will definitely go and stay there again. I was so relaxed and rested. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Originally booked 1 night. After driving thru Taos, decided we should stay an extra night. Second night, key was not programmed so we were locked out, then the ice machine broke...so no ice (temp was in the 90's) no hot water that evening...the next morning, no cold water...so couldnt flush toilet or take a shower. "A pretty, green, comfy, mellow retreat in Taos"
My two 20-something kids and I had never been to Taos. We picked the Sun God out of an old Frommer's guide, figuring it would be just adequate. So we didn't expect to be charmed by the decor--a rising sun motif carved into the lovely, new furniture in a rustic, New Mexican style; towel racks made to look like small birch boughs; a pretty tiled counter […] in the kitchenette with stools with that pretty, rising sun carving. Adobe walls with little alcoves for statues. It was hot during our June stay and one day we had a nice lunch outdoors (plenty of takeout nearby; we went to the supermarket up the road) on the big, green lawn under some shade trees. A crow hopping around in a huge pine kept us entertained, and every now and then a little spray from the sprinklers would cool us off when a breeze came up. The folks in the office were very friendly and eager to ensure we enjoyed our stay, and the location was good--far enough from the plaza to be quiet and calm but close enough to zip back and forth quickly. Coffee and coffeemakers in the rooms, coffee and snacks in the office, lots of maps and brochures. I'd go back in a minute. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Overall, great stay"
It's centrally located, very well maintained courtyard which is a great place to sit in the early morning and enjoy coffee or late evening glass of wine. However, the room needed to better dusted, coffee maker needs to be moved to a better place in the room. Recommendation, a small room refrigerator would be great. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, especially […] the Santa Fe interior décor. We would recommend this place. Lastly, the staff were helpful. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Cozy & affordable"
The hotel & rooms have authentic New Mexico/Taos feel. The hot tub was great after skiing all day. Very helpful and friendly staff. Good price & location. I'm already planning to return w/ my children next spring breakGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We loved the very spacious suite and we saved some money having the kitchen area. The location was great with Wal Mart and Subway right across the street if we needed anything. We were very pleasantly surprised at the coziness and the space to spread out. The price was fantastic. We even extended our stay here because it was such a great value!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Want to use the Taos Ski Shuttle? Sun God Lodge!"
If you are a family of four, one of their kitchenettes with a murphy bed is a great option. we had two separate rooms with a microwave, coffee maker and one of the dorm sized mini fridges with a freezer compartment and kitchen sink with plates, silverware, and dish soap.. The kids liked the murphy bed, it was easy to convert the living area each evening, […] and the rooms stayed toasty warm even during a minus 20 degree cold snap. The reason we chose the Sun God was 1) price and 2) the Taos Ski Valley shuttle- which made it possible for the 3 skiers in our group to take the 45 minute ride to the mountain each morning, leaving the non skier with our car free to explore Taos on her own. This worked well, the shuttle dropped us right back at the room in the evening The hotel is an older model and is perfect if you want to help yourself and bring some of your own food in (Alberstons grocery is just down the street). They have good free wifi and free parking. If you want room service, an on site restaurant, or scenery, this is not the hotel for you. The staff were friendly but did leave the office unattended on occasion, we had to wait for them to check in the first day (1/2/2013) , and again when we needed their help during the week. They did send maintenance over to the room on two occasions when asked for extra bedding and towels without any problems, though, and they were very cooperative when we changed our plans - even with an Expedia prepaid reservation. "Quaint hotel with personalized touches"
My family and I stayed in a suite for 3 nights during the 2012/13 ski season. The suites have multiple rooms for added privacy and have personalized touches based on the southwestern sun god motif. The overall quality of the room was good, but there were some minor deferred maintenance issues (e.g., water faucet gaskets needed replacing, sticking doors, […] etc). I was surprised how warm the room was, even at -10 deg F outside. Exterior hot tub is nice after a full day of skiing but was challenging to use at below freezing temps. WiFi internet was included at no charge. There is also a city shuttle bus pickup at this hotel which runs directly to Taos Ski Valley ($1 charge each way). Very good value for the price. I would stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"2012 Taos ski stay"
We stayed at the Sun God Lodge for he third time this winter as we headed up to the ski valley. This year we upped to the kitchenette room. Arriving during Christmas last year limited or eateries to one, so I figured the kitchenette would help. Room was clean and reach for our arrival. Expecting a stove, room only had a microwave and refrigerator. So […] ramen and warmed sandwiches ruled! Loved the hotel and the as an added bonus, this year the hot tub worked!! I always enjoy staying at Sun God Lodge, it's convenient to the plaza and reasonably priced.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
When I arrived before the normal check-in time, the room was ready because I called the day before citing my early 3 p.m. dinner at Thanksgiving. While I was waiting for my key cards, another couple did a quick check-in and got their cards. They were back in 5 minutes looking flustered and unhappy. They has opened the door to find a couple on the bed...it […] was the wrong room. The owner was very apologetic and took her time finding the correct card keys. After I walked to my room towards my room, the owner followed me and handed me another envelope with the correct cards. She apologized but I was left with a very bad feeling. "friendly, charming kitchenette room"
the motel staff did a remarkable job of straightening out an internet reservation snafu. the room was charming with its just right kitchenette. it was nice that it had personality . i plan on staying here in the future!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The Sun God Lodge is an older motel and in relatively good shape for it's age. We stayed in the older portion. I found the room just ok for the price. No frills and the bathroom is so small, not a vanity to even put anything on. The staff was very nice and helpful. Some things I would suggest are better lighting in the room. Impossible to read as the […] lamps did not put out much light. Also, put a cabinet under the sink. The pipes under the sink showing are nasty and dirty. Put some kind of over the stool racks for guests to put items on. The room was quiet, we didn't hear the guests next door nor street traffic. No need for heat or air the time of year we were there but I can tell the air conditioner/furnace would be very noisy. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel staff were really helpful and pleasant and the hotel was really quiet despite being close to the main road. The rooms however were very dirty and tired. The bathroom had chipped tiles and bath and the bedroom had not been dusted in a long time. The bed was the most uncomfortable I had slept on and was soft, lumpy, squeaky and you could feel […] every spring in your back as you lay. I would pay a little more next time or stay in a hotel further away from the centre in order to get a better standard of accommodation. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Best for groups?"
This is a great place for college kids, the bowling team, whoever, to all stay together in one place, in inexpensive rooms. There are lots of nice outside places to congregate, and it is very cute-looking. Realize it is older, the bath is what my Mom used to call "funky," and if you are used to standardized beds/decor/comfort level, like Hampton Inn […] and Suites, this won't be the same. Management could consider putting coat hooks on the back of bathroom doors? Very little space to even put anything down in the bath. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Customer service was the best I've experienced in a while. Having worked in hotels for 10 years, I have high standards when visiting other properties. "Quaint New Mexican decor"
Room was clean, but not modern. Grounds were shady green and inviting. Hot tub is not operable. No air conditioning, internet was intermitant, TV sound kept cutting out.Genuine Expedia guest review
Definitely 2 star - more shabby than chic - but, well priced. The young man, who was the night manager, was great. He gave us a room which had a sitting area and small kitchenette. Decor needs an update; but, generally, it was as advertised. Close to plaza and on the main drag.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Pleasantly surprised at the hotel! It was clean, lovely and far enough from the street that it was nice and quiet. "The Sun God Lodge Unfortunate Experience"
We went to ski at Taos during the Christmas holidays. We were looking for a quaint, comfortable inexpensive hotel. Unfortuantely inexpensive was the only promise fulfilled. "Lodge in the sky"
We stayed at the Sun God Lodge in Taos for 4 nights. When we are in Taos we always stay at the SGL and have never been disappointed. The room was great and the beds comfortable. The only thing missing was a microwave and refrigerator. The office night clerk popped popcorn for us in the office microwave and since it was cold outside, the cold cuts and […] milk were naturally cooled in a patio chair.
