Cabo Azul Resort - San Jose del Cabo

The hotel is still under construction, but beyond the lack of a completed grand entrance, you would not know it. All of its amenities are finished and in very good shape. I think the hotel could potentially double in size, so I wonder if the size of the completed project will ultimately make the facility feel crowded. But as of now, it was great. The […] staff was very good and attentive. The rooms and grounds were really stupendous. We did not have any view although ours was called a "partial ocean"- we will never do that again. Also, we had a 2-bedroom and the second bedroom literally had no window: very odd. But it was for the kids and they spent no time there aside from sleeping so it was not a bother. Cabo Azul also did a very good job of making the lighting interesting.... We used the big kitchen space for cereal in the morning to rationalize costs a little bit as the breakfast restaurant was not a bargain. The pool (s) was phenomenal- 3 individual pools of varying temperatures that cascade into each other . The hot tubs were very clean and HOT. Fires light across the pool area at dusk- very attractive. The beach was spectacular but rough. The gym, too, was very clean and well equipped. The valet service for our car was prompt. Internet access (a charge) was good in the rooms and pool area. We like this location as we would rather not even bother stepping foot in Cabo as there are more than enough great restaurants in this area. Go now. Read more

The only thing that prevents me from giving this hotel the highest rating is the time share pitch. While we were able to avoid the 90 minute sales pitch the high pressure attempt was still annoying. Other than the initial hassle, the hotel and staff were wonderful. The location was great - on the beach but still a short walk into town.

My husband and I agreed we would have given this five stars, except for the additional daily internet charge. In this day and age, wi-fi should be a free inclusion in a hotel stay. Otherwise, we had an amazing time. The resort was a short walk into beautiful San Jose del Cabo and all of the staff were professional and friendly. The views, the swim up […] pool, the incredible food, were just what we needed. We did have a concierge greet us when we checked in and although we asked him to get us a dinner reservation at a local farm for our second night there, we never heard back from him and there was no follow up. We tried to get a reservation ourselves in the brief moment we had internet service (it was intermittent our entire stay) and were able to get them ourselves, but didn't know it because the internet went down again. I would say that was the most frustrating part of our stay. Had we done all of our reservations before leaving home, it might have been a lot easier. All in all, we would definitely go back, but be better prepared for a lack of service in that regard. Read more

This resort is first class. The staff did a fantastic job of making us comfortable and attending to our every want. The facilities are fantastic and, unlike most of our other stays in Mexico, was not overcrowded. The food was excellent, considerably above average, and we enjoyed a broad diversity (e.g. seafood, steaks, and all varieties of Mexican Food). […] A few items to be aware of: 1) Our villa, which had a wonderful view of the Ocean by the way, was insuffiently lit inside. Maybe just a minor annoyance for others but it bothered us. 2) There's no "adult only" pool. As indicated above, there was limited congestion, so as a family we were comfortable. Those w/out kids would likely be less satisfied. 3) The beach sand in San Jose del Cabo is MUCH nicer than in Cabo San Lucas - very comfortable. We enjoyed the sand volleyball on the beach. However, the surf is very high and prevented he kids from swimming in the ocean. Came the week before Christmas, 2012. Got a great deal on expedia so the villas were very affordable. I was expecting a high-end hotel feel but the resort is all condos that are mostly owned. The most beautiful resort in Los Cabos in my family's opinion. Not crowded, abundant staff, incredible view and access to the beach... but the pool area is really […] something and you won't want to leave. Easily worth the price. If you're single like my mom and aunt, they'll offer you tours (discuss time shares, wedding options, etc.; take them because they'll give you credit towards your bill. Together, my mom and aunt got US$300 for their time. That covered all of our drinks and most of our food for the week. From the manager to the valets to the maids that came to our villa 2x/day and turned down even the hide-a-bed... everyone was very sweet to us. I can't wait to bring my husband next time. I honestly can't think of one bad thing to say about the place. Good luck. PS. Don't buy the Expedia car insurance; rental agencies won't take it. Read more

September, seems to be the month for hotel maintenace and up keep, due to it beeing the low season. When we arrived, the main pool bar and restraunt was closed as well as refinishing work be done on the chapel which faces the pool. So, we had to listen to sanding, hammer pounding and general construction noises while laying by the pool. That is not what you want to here on vacation. We were two couples + a baby + a nanny so booked the Penthouse, which was 3 bedrooms + kitchen, living room and dining room. It was absolutely gorgeous, super comfortable and had a phenomenal balcony across the entire back of the rooms. The beds were incredibly comfortable and the kitchen adequately stocked. The resort itself is small enough to easily […] get around and the food was incredibly delicious all of the time! They did not, however, have a very big wine list .... then again you don't go to Mexico for the wine. The margaritas were just as we expected - delicious! We did use the Paz Spa, which was by far the best spa I'd ever been to. Highly recommend the signature Paz massage! Well worth the money. This does not, however, seem like a kid-friendly hotel. You can play in the sand, but the water is too dangerous to swim in. And the restaurants + pools were more adult friendly. My only complaint about the room would be that the kitchen kept getting a funky, sulphur smell and the water faucet was wobbly, but they fixed it promptly. Also, they neglected to show us the light switches were on dimmers, so we thought our room was just really dark for the majority of our stay. Read more

Hello Fellow Traveler, Chances are, you do your research online before considering a vacation and compare notes... I know that we do, and if this benefits you in any way, then great! A lot of reviews focus on aspects of a location that reflect poorly on the Resort/Hotel itself - I will try to make that distinction. The Cabo Azul, itself, is spectacular. […] It is brand new (4th year, with a brand new lobby being added but it is not an eye sore nor does it affect aesthetics) with the best service, rooms, cleanliness, amenities, and decor imaginable. It is easily in the Top 3 in Cabo, and definitely #1 for us. Well worth the price and dare I say, you will be hard pressed to want to leave the resort. Javiers and Flor De Noche (onsite eateries) are pricey but with great food and ambiance. Their market, lounge, business center, gym, are all top notch. Their Spa (Paz) was perhaps the highlight of our trip. Book without any concerns about the resort. We highly recommend it for romance, children were welcome, and it is far more peaceful than Cabo San Lucas on the west side (25 minute car ride). Spent 10 nights here on honeymoon. Cannot say enough about this hotel and their staff. Absolutely top class. 20 mins from airport, great bar and restaurants, onsite shopping market and free internet cafe. Hotel also provides free wired and wireless internet access. Had a Deluxe Pool View villa on the 4th floor and it was fantastic. Style of the hotel […] is very classy and understated, facilities in the villa are superb, loads of room including very large balcony. San Jose del Cabo is a short taxi ride away ($5). Only downside would be if you wanted to party like crazy, then Cabo San Lucas is 20miles away! Also the sea is not safe for swimming. The hotel staff make this very clear and red flags are all along th beach. This applies to all of the hotels in this area. We had travelled from Ireland so the hotel staff told us not to bother with the Timeshare spiel as they knew we would have no interest. Cabo Azul was a dream, it caters for everything and the staff were fantastic, very friendly always and helpful. I cannot comment on any other hotel in this area, but if you are thinking about staying at Cabo Azul, you will not be disappointed. Would recommend it to anybody interested. Read more

I had a great experience at this hotel. The amenities were amazing. Although the lighting in the bedrooms was not the greatest, the natural light and view from the rooms more than made up for it. We used the hotel shuttle from the airport and everything went smoothly. We stayed here on our honeymoon and really wanted a place that focused on relaxation. We also wanted a place with less kids and amazing accommodations. Thankfully we were able to get all those things! The service and the hotel itself was beautiful. The food was all pretty good and the free internet cafe was great too. Overall it's a bit overpriced […] for everything, but San Jose is all that price. Expect to spend $25-35 a head on dinner. Everything was clean and in perfect condition. The infinity pools filter out all the water, which is awesome. The one bedroom villa was perfect for us with the full kitchen, so we could cook some nights. We slept with the balcony deck open and woke up to the view of the ocean. Can't beat it! My only warning is that if you are looking for a resort with a lot of things to do then this is NOT it. Really tastefully done upscale resort near the old town of San Jose del Cabo. We stayed in a penthouse and it was among the nicest accomodations we've had. Walking into town is relatively easy and there are plentiful taxis. The food on the resort is actually quite good and varied (we went to the cafe/deli quite a bit, which was less expensive and very […] relaxed and convenient). The pool area is very comfortable and appealing. Some of the bedrooms/bathrooms had poor lighting like other reviewers note, but it isn't a big deal since you likely will in the common areas most f the time. The only real complaint is the timeshare aspect of it -- at check in, we got sold hard on attending a sales pitch. We actually went to the pitch because the incentive was good, but what was promised to be 90 minutes turned into 2 and half hours of very aggressive selling. Read more

The hotel being under construction/remodeling would have been nice to know ahead of time. Could have swayed our decision of which hotel to choose. Checking in was a problem. We were checked into a ground level room and asked to move up to a higher floor for security. We were shown another room that was ready but they would not let us take possesion […] close to 2 hours. 2 hours we waited in the first room, made no sense, we called 3 times and got the run around. VERY upsetting. Your front desk seemed to careless of the imposition. The resturaunt staff ,on the other hand ,were fabulous. The food equally fabulous. The grounds were gorgeous. Didn't like the inconsistency in cab fares into town. The biggest complaint was upon checking out. When we checked in we noticed the 10am check out time and asked to have a 12. We were told not a problem, to call the day of our departure. We did and was RUDELY spoken to over the phone and when we went down to speak to the manager we were told we would be charged $125 if we weren't out by 10. The Manager was the worst. Arrogant & rude. We travel quite extensively and never have had such poor customer service, and over an extended checkout time. The hotel was virtually empty. I could see if the occupancy was high but that was absolutely not the case. Very disappointed to an otherwise lovely stay. The rooms are very nice.
