Spent the better part of a week in Erfurt staying at the IBB Hotel. Everything about the hotel-location, service, amenities was superb. The staff made us very comfortable although we spoke no German and the breakfast was great. We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant our first nite and it was one of the best meals our entire stay. The rooms were very clean. We got to use the bicycles for a day tour of the city and the onsite parking was an added plus. Would highly recommend this hotel when staying in Erfurt.

The hotel staff was very responsive and helpful. The room was adequate and had BBC news. However, there was no way to block the very early morning sun into the room and parking was very limited. The dining facilities were very pleasant--both inside and outside, and breakfast was very good. It was a bit out of the way but not a bad hub for exploring the area. Warning: GPS takes you in the "back way"--not the most convenient approach.

A short guide to Thuringian Forest

At 120 kilometres long and 35 kilometres wide, this hilly forest is popular year round. The Rennsteig hiking path (a skiing path in winter) follows the summits along the main central ridge, the highest peak being the Grosser Beerberg. Winter sports centres like Oberhof have facilities for downhill skiing but Nordic skiing is much more popular. Burgk Castle in the south-east corner of the forest is one of Germany's most beautiful castles.

Das Hotel hat eine wunderbare Lage. Das Personal war super. Allerdings kommt man sich vor wie zu DDR- Zeiten. Sehr kinderfräundlich. Wer allerdings Ruhe sucht ist hier nicht geeignet. Uns haben nur zwei Sachen nicht gefallen und zwar die Aufteilung der Tische im Speiseraum, zu lang und zueng sowie der Kaffee am Morgen. Ansonsten war für den Prweis alles […] super. Read more
