"Out of the ordinary"
The proprietors are very nice and fantastic cooks--the breakfast was great!! It was dutch baby pancakes, and they were very accommodating since we had to eat at 7am and leave. Breakfast is served at 7am or 8:30am so you have a choice. The bed was clean and comfortable. We stayed in the Raymond room and although the bed is a double bed, the rooftop hot […] tub was awesome! If you are two travelers and you travel light, I would recommend that room. You can hear pipes running a bit, but since we stayed on a weeknight that was not an issue. This is a sweet, little B&B in a great spot in between everything in Denver. Plus, the innkeepers are a treat and the thrown in breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cookies and more tea are such a bonus. "STAYING IN A CASTLE!"
We had an excellent one night stay at the Castle Marne on September 3. The room was very small and rather cramped, but they have larger available for a higher price, so my bad for being cheap. The "family" are fantastic hosts -- helpful, pleasant and genuinely interested in their guests. The Castle itself is beautiful and a fantastically restored piece […] of Denver history. The breakfast was delicious and beautifully served. Got "scolded" (all in good fun) for getting up to get my own coffee -- in other words, fantastic service. These folks get the whole attraction of a B&B -- being treated as a welcome guest in someone else's home and facilitating conversation around the table so it is a much more intimate experience than sitting in a hotel coffee shop. Well done. Neighborhood is not the best, but is in transition and we did not find it scary by any means. We felt comfortable taking a walk in daylight, but probably would not have attempted it at night, although the Castle itself is very secure. Last point -- the shortbread cookies at the afternoon tea are not to be missed. Blaming my trip weight gain entirely on them!! We will be back and hopefully for a longer stay. It was really great staying @ Castle Marne while I was in Denver. Such a more personal experience than you get @ a hotel. The inn keepers were very solicitous and it was nice to talk with other guests at breakfast, which by the way, was delicious each day and filling enough to last you through dinner, if you wanted. "Delightfully surprising"
I had booked this B&B because it was less expensive, and out of the ordinary hotel genre. I was so pleasantly surprised by the many things I had not expected. The "Castle" itself lives up to its name. It's a beautiful bldg. inside and out. When I checked in, I was told there would be tea served at 4:30, a lovely treat with yummy baked goods to boot. […] Then Laura showed me to my room which was adequate, very small but fine for one night and one person. The BIG surprise was that she then showed me the private balcony with a great hot tub!! I really took advantage of it, too! Breakfast was an amazing, delicious experience . Jim was our charming server in the formal dining room where I met about 7 other folks from literally all over the world. . I just wish I hadn't had to dash off to catch my plane! We spent 4 nights at Castle Marne this June, and simply loved it. The place is an attraction itself, one of the highlights on our trip to Denver. The building is a Victorian stone mansion from 1880, really well kept with an exciting history. The rooms are lovely and the staff go 10 extra miles each day to make sure you're happy. It's family run and […] all three generations are loving, smiling people who make you love your stay in Denver. Breakfast is delicious (although not as flexible as many other places, you have to choose between two servings each day, 7 or 8.30 - 8 or 9.30 on week ends - they don't serve continuously from 7 to 9 like many other b&bs). Every afternoon they serve tea at around 4 pm (we where never there at that time), and again at 9.30 pm. Lovely herb tea and home made chocolate chip cookies - all complimentary!
