"Convenient to Vatican"
Good Hotel, great staff. Small but adequate .Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"5 in an American family"
It is more like a bed and breakfast without a breakfast. You have your own entry to your room. The bedroom that can sleep 6 was bigger than I thought it would be. The only odd part was the spare couch/bed is in the Kitchen! The bathroom was decent. The internet mostly worked but I did run down to the main lobby to use my Ipad a couple times.Genuine Expedia guest review
"clean room, convenient location, minimal perks"
the rooms are super tiny but also clean and well-kept. not very comfortable for much except for sleeping. no english-speaking tv channels. make sure to bring adapters to plug in any electronics. the neighborhood is not very inviting, looks a little bit rundown and sketchy. the staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating, speaking fluent english and […] eager to assist with map and directions. the metro station is two blocks away and the vatican is about five blocks away. best for laid back travelers looking for little more than a place to lay your head. "Location great, other issues..."
This was an apartment style place with little service. Towels only every three days (not stated on Hotels.com website so we were not prepared.) The beds are not very comfortable (hard) but for most European travelers, it's fairly normal. Slept 4 of us so the price is o.k. for a family. We cooked in the kitchen to save money and they wanted extra to […] give us dish detergent! No extras, if you are cooking in, bring salt/pepper, detergent, oil, etc. Other apartments offer these things on hand. Good news, you are very close to a market - the biggest one in Rome and also very close to a metro to get anywhere. Leave the back gate and you are at the line for the Sistine Chapel. A lot of steps to get to the apartment, so be prepared if you have heavy luggage. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Loved this place!!!"
Seriously, it was great. At first arrival we had an issue with the heat. Our room was too cold and was not warming up. Seeing we could not get an easy solution, they quickly moved us to another room and we had no problems from them on. In fact, the room was so big and so clean. I'm very particular about the bathroom and this one was beyond satisfactory. […] Without knowing anything about Rome, I really lucked up when I booked this hotel. The staff was very helpful. The location was also very convenient. It was very close to the Vatican museum and St Peter's Basilica and the subway was a block away. I highly recommend it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Residence Candia is truly a home away from home"
Residence Candia is truly a home away from home. The hotel staff at the hotel way always helpful, friendly, patient and they continually went above and beyond expectation. They helped coordinate transport, scheduled reservations, and assisted in many ways to numerous to mention. The location of the Hotel is fantastic, close to subway and buses, traveling […] through Rome couldn’t be easier or cheaper. Walking to Vatican City, St Peters, and the Vatican Museum is fast, just around the corner (maybe a mile). A great open market is within walking distance, not to mention several shops and stores. The Hotel is surrounded by great views of Rome. A fantastic coffee shop, I think it was called “le Scale” (The Stairs) is just on the corner and is a great place for fantastic Italian food and coffee. This Hotel was more like a furnished apartment and was the absolute best value given the kitchen and bedrooms. The Hotels staff seemed focused on helping us visit Rome and making the Hotel comfortable. You will not regret your stay if you choose this hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great location, can't wait to go back!"
This hotel is in a very convenient location and a safe neighborhood. Small shops and restaurants line the street all the way to the Vatican or the Metro line. There are two metro locations very close to the hotel; a Burger King, Subway, and McDonalds that are also very close to this hotel. This hotel is only 5 blocks from the entrance to the Vatican […] Museums which is the meeting locations of many tour groups. The room my family occupied had 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a kitchen/living room. We also had a TV, two phones, two fans, two power adapters, two blow dryers, and free WIFI internet. This hotel isn't fancy but it had everything needed for the travelers on a budget. Also, if you are in the USA Military, the USO is just 4 blocks away! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Residence Candia - A Good Choice"
This is a great property. Great location near the Vatican. Surprisingly quiet. Clean, well kept. Updated rooms. Rooms are quite small, but common for Europe. Larger people will not fit into the shower opening - it was a really small doorway into the shower. Nice once you make it in. The toilet was also very high. I am 5'10" and when seated I was on […] my tippy toes. Comfortable bed, fully equipped kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, small oven, dishes & utensils. No dish soap. Bring your own alarm clock. Room was slept daily, and bed was made up. They ignore the Do Not Disturb tag on the door... TV had a few lame stations all in Italian, but who cares. Wireless internet worked great. Small grocery store about a block away. Laundromat about 5 blocks away. Metro station very close. 15 minute walk to St. Peter's square. Several little places to eat within a block. The registration desk spoke great English and were helpful. Only needed them at check in and check out, and asked a question once. Save some Euros for the ridiculous city tax when you check out. If you spend the majority of your time in your hotel room, this isn't the place for you. If you use it to sleep, rest a little and maybe eat once in a while, the RC is a great option. I'd recommend it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Residence Candia - Rome, Italy"
We loved our stay! The great manager gave us a true "Room With a View!" We could see The Vatican from our windows. We were comfortable and felt secure and safe. Would stay there again and again if we had the chance!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location, NOT 2 stars."
The location was good, only blocks from the vatican, and the vatican museum. Parking was good, neigborhood, had nice places. Room was EXTREMELY small. If you, were a larger person, you would have had a hard time using the restroom. Staff, some were very helpful. I think, it was overpriced, but maybe not for Rome.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very friendly, good size, close to metro"
This place had a very friendly staff. The location is nearly across the street from the metro line for easy access to other parts of Rome. Walking distance to Vatican. Clean room. Convenient to have kitchen space, table and a lil extra space.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
wonderful hotel. we enjoyed our stay. we meet some really nice Enghish speaking guest.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The staff a this apartment hotel was terrific. Very helpful. We had problems checking in online for our flight back to the states and the desk staff had us use their email address for our documents and even printed everything out for us. We stayed in the one bedroom Penthouse. Don't let Penthouse confuse you... It WAS on the top floor but that was the […] only resemblence to a Penthouse. The furniture, although very clean, was cheap. The kicten was VERY small but efficient. The bedroom was very clean but again, Very small. The best thing was you could hear the Vacican church bells from the room. The is a lovely terrance where we enjoyed our morning coffee. They advertize that you can see the Vactican Dome from our room but really that is a bit of a stratch. There is a great market around the corner so you can walk to but groceries and and the surrounding area seemed quite safe. I did like being able to make some meals there, especially breakfast. All in all, it was a nice experience. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location - Small, clean accomodations"
The location of the hotel was great... 10-15 minute walk to the Vatican Museum and St Peters Basilica, plus the Cipro Metro station 5 minutes away. We were on the 5th floor (Penthouse) level that included small balcony. The room was tight for 5 people, kind of like a large RV where all the conveniences were there, but in a compressed area. The beds […] were comfortable, the bathroom well equipped, well lighted, lots of hot water in a decent shower. When it comes down to it, we spent most of our time touring Rome, so the room suited our needs very well. While not particularly fancy, it met our requirements... I recommend the Residence Candia for budget conscious travelers that want a decent place to stay while they see the sites of Rome. You can't beat the convenience of the location. "Great start to family holiday in Italy"
I took a standard room for my 3 year old daughter, hubby and I. It was simple and small of course to SA hotels but had everything we need. We had a double bed in the room and they added a single for my daughter. There a small table that can be folded out so 3 of us ate comfortably. Little kitchen. Bathroom was a great size as I expected tiny. Even had […] a hand held shower so bathing my daughter was easy. Laundry, supermarket is really close by. Vatican city is 2 mins walk. So it metro bus. Railway about 5 mins walk (with a stroller). Great for a small family. Wifi was weak in the room even after they reset it. So I had to go to the room corridor to pick up signal and then it stayed when i walked in the room. Go figure! But at reception was great, just to let the family know we fine so didnt really worry about it. Road gets noisy at 1am when they pick up the trash so you will wake even very tired after a day in Rome. It set my sleep pattern for the rest of Italy so strongly suggest a room not facing the street. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

The room is quite small but the awesome staff is all worth the stay. They are very friendly and helpful. The bed is very comfy and the washroom is clean. The towels are white and soft. "Great location but slow to resolve problems"
Nice hotel, great location - close to Vatican and Metro. However, on arrival they did not have details of our booking. Eventually got the room sorted but the fridge was not working. Every day for the next 5 days we requested that the fridge be looked at and fixed and it never was. We had several visits from hotel staff that just turned the dial around […] and said wait 10 minutes but the issue was never resolved. Very disappointed with this as we have 2 young children and an apartment with a fridge as essential for us. For our whole stay the issue was never sorted and this put a negative slant on our stay in Rome. Shame, but this is typical of Rome, plenty of great historical sights but the customer service and the cleanliness of the whole city leaves a lot to be desired. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Excellent location, very cosy!"
We booked Residence Candia as we had recently been to Amsterdam and enjoyed the flexibility of an apartment. Our one bedroom apartment was in reality a double room with one wall adapted for cooking etc and a bit cramped. Once we reconciled ourselves to that, we really enjoyed staying at Residence Candia. Really friendly and accommodating staff - like […] leaving our luggage there after we checked out so we could explore Rome further before flying home. The room was very clean and the bathroom was excellent, spacious and clean. The environs of Residence Candia have a wonderful airy feel and its location is excellent, 5 minutes walk from the entrance to the Vatican Museums and 7 minutes or so to the metro. "Budget apartments. Good for the money."
The staff at reception was polite but we did not find them very helpful. They do not replace soaps, bedsheets, towels, etc daily. We booked a 1 br apartment, we were given a small room with a double bed and 2 single bunk beds, there was also a compact kitchen plus breakfast area outside the room. The hotel does not offer breakfast which I guess is mentioned […] on their website. Kitchen is useful but except for basic utensils, nothing is provided. The location is near Vatican and is mainly for tourists so is very expensive. Overall, a good place for short stay (we were out most of the time during the day), good location (i.e. safe neighbourhood, local metro train station is close) and I guess not very expensive. Reasonable price and 3 minute walk to underground. Vatican City walls 2-3 minute walk, museum 10 minutes and entrance to St. Peters' 20 min. Local dining, night life 2-20 minutes. Staff more than helpful with tips on transit, good eating, and what is worth seeing and not. Housekeeping superb. "Fantastic hotel for families"
I booked this hotel as we wanted the option of self catering with the benefits of a hotel. The kitchen was perfectly equipped for this, in addition there was a great supermarket very close by and plenty of cafes and restaurants. The metro station was also very close and took minutes to get into the centre of Rome very cheaply.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great place for Family/groups"
Hotel seems split in two blocks, the one with the reception area etc has smaller more modern rooms some with balcony and are very nicely done but are compact the family room we could have had, had small bedrooms. While the one we picked in the older block had three bedrooms and could sleep eight or more. It was older and a couple of the rooms need some […] decorating soon, but it was very clean and spacious, nice kitchen area and space to be away from other if need be sometimes very handy on a family holiday, better than living on top of each other for us anyway. The only other thing is that the shower in the newer units would be larger and again more modern Hotel is very central and we would be happy to recommend the hotel. The staff we encountered were helpful and friendly although the older block is entered from the street thro a locked main door. If going back to Rome we would certainly look at staying here again. More like a motel/hostel.. If your waist line is more than 36 then this place is not for you. If you are traveling with your spouse then you would be better off with other options. Limited walking space. Basically you wouldn't have ample space if you have more than 1 luggage. No carpet so you would be walking on their floor which feels like pvc cover. "Our tiny Home in Rome"
We were given room 442 which I reckon is the smallest room in the hotel. But room was very clean, kitchenette well set up & all the gadgets, utensils as well as the bathroom were squeaky clean. Although there are two double beds (bunk bed formation) & can sleep 4, I would say the room is remarkably small & is good for a lightly built couple like us. "Candia is great for smokers and vampires!"
The room was entirely too small; we could have dealt with that, but we were located immediately above the parking lot, and experienced noise all night involving late night party goers, arrivals, and departures. A great hotel just behind the Vatican and near to the metro and a supermarket. As you can see from the photos the rooms are very compact and anyone over a size 20 would not be able to get into the shower. However we really enjoyed staying here. It is definitely worth paying a little more for the penthouse rooms, as they have a private terrace, and […] the kitchen is bigger and better equipped. "THE GRAND TOUR"
Residence Candia provides a perfect location for a sightseeing holiday in Rome - it is well equipped and immaculately clean with everything in the studio you would need. Very close to St Peters and Vatican and with nearby metro and bus services ideal for touring the city and all other sites. Walking is a great way to get around and you must be prepared […] to take time to explore the bus services which are excellent once you have sussed out and also, as we were there for 5 days, the 16 euro ticket which covers all is unbelievable value for money. The hotel staff could not be more helpful and multi lingual - the city map, freely available on the reception desk, provides the perfect guide for the city and sites. Residence Candia is close to various supermarkets and restaurants which fit into every price range but especially valuable for us was Feliziano Pasticceria on Via Candia just a few blocks down. Their range is superb and they do carry outs - we were in Rome for International Tennis as well as sightseeing and the food from there provided us with great picnics for taking to the tennis - excellent meat dishes plus lots of good vegetables. The cakes and pastries are to die for and we cannot recommend it too highly - all prices extremely reasonable and brilliant service. We would not hesitate to return whenever visiting Rome and will recommend most highly to all friends and family. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great low cost accommodation in a perfect location"
This was a wonderful place to stay in a fantastic location. Very handy for the Vatican and the metro but far enough away from the tourist area that you were able to find places to eat that were reasonably priced and full of locals. We were in the four person penthouse and it was perfect for our needs. The room was more like a small apartment then a […] hotel. It wasn't huge but we had more space to move and relax then you would in a usual hotel room. Two of our party were over 60 and needed somewhere to catch their breath after a day tramping round the sights and they loved it. As well as the two double beds there was a kitchen/dining area with a day bed and a decent sized balcony. The shower was always warm and there was good water pressure. The rooms were cleaned daily. The kitchen was basic but you were provided with all the utensils you needed and staff would provided anything you felt missing. Having a kitchen meant we had somewhere to have a leisurley breakfast before setting off for the day and somewhere to make a tea or coffee on our return. Personally I loved the area. There were bakeries and delis, a wonderful ice cream parlour, one of the best sea food restaurtants we'd ever been to, a local market and supermarket and the Pizzerium a couple of streets away. You felt safe at all times. This apartment wasn't luxuary but it did feel like home for the week that we were there and taking into account the price that we paid I'd rate it superb.
