"Great place off the beaten path"
This hotel is a few blocks from the Vatican. Subway is a few blocks away to ride to the main tourist areas. Room was small. Bathroom was clean. Front desk very helpful. Dorm like rooms but fine for what we needed. Kitchenette and cooking utensils. Nice rooftop and main floor patio. Would stay again.Genuine Expedia guest review
I really like the location of this hotel being just outside of the Vatican and very close to the subway. The rooms were very clean and cozy. I thought the hotel staff was very helpful. The one big draw back and negative I have for this hotel is when I went to check out I got his with a 30 Euro hotel stay tax after I had pre paid everything via hotels.com […] Then I had to pay the service fee to pay with my credit card. Not sure why this is not already rolled up in the hotel price but beware of it!!!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"close to all must-see sights and train station"
Much to my surprise I really liked Rome and the location and comfort of Residence Candia had a lot to do with that. The hotel staff were always helpful, our room nicely cleaned and comfortable. I had misgivings about spending four days in a big city but we could walk to the Vatican, which was an important item for our trip to Italy. The train station […] is just a short walk to Residence Candia. The hotel wifi worked fine for us also. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Grand, newly renovated room, but YMMV"
This hotel, within view of the walls of the Vatican, was in a great location for getting about and sightseeing in Rome. Our room had just been renovated and was perfect and large, though I get the impression other rooms in this hotel are not quite as nice, and we may have lucked out. As a "Residence" facility, we were unaware this meant they only refresh […] towels every four days - that would have been nice to know in advance, and we came back to our room midday on Saturday to find it had been tidied (but the towels not replaced) and OUR DOOR WAS WIDE OPEN. No one came back to the room to finish up... Nothing. They left our room wide open. The front desk was apologetic and genuinely surprised about this (so I don't believe it was something that happened with any frequency), but with all of our clothes, a laptop, and other expensive items, this could have been a disaster. Thankfully nothing was missing. Parking is present, but chaotic (much like anywhere in Rome). All told, it was a wonderful stay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Close to Vatican"
Very close to Vatican and metro (Cipro sta.). Very small room, patio was larger than apartment. Apt. was clean. First trip to Europe, hard to get use to such small accomodations.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Saved us Money"
The location was great. 2 blocks from Vatican museum. 2 blocks from metro to get to rest of Rome. Grocery store 2.5 blocks away. We used the kitchen alot to save some money. We had 2 dinners and 3 breakfasts. This place is tiny though. Everything was IKEA made and used well. Our room would have slepped 3 but 3 people coudn't hang out in there or eat […] together. Our kitchen table was a drawer that slid out. Use the wired internet; the wireless was weak. I tried several points in hotel for signal. Only good one was on top floor. The wired internetplug in was underneath bed. The staff was helpfull. Good luck and enjoy!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"great price and location"
My husband and I spent part of our honeymoon in Rome. We saved money by getting a studio style hotel room and making our own breakfast and lunch everyday. Residence Candia is clean and neat. It's just a 5 minute walk to the Vatican Museums, 15 minute walk to St. Peter's Square and 2 minute walk to the Cipro Station. It worked wonderfully for us!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great price for location. It is a older hotel but we enjoyed it so much. Super clean, staff was wonderful. Close to Vatican and Hop On Hop Off bus route. Lots of places right there for shopping and eating. Got a real kick out of the elevator and narrow stairways. Grocery store not to far around the corner about a block and half away. 3 couples stayed […] here and we enjoyed the experience totally. We would stay here again. Not new, not fancy just a enjoyable stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"To feel at home."
If you want to cook the great Italian products in the comfort of a little appartment, the Candia is perfect. And with a room at the back of the residence, you leave your room directly to the Vatican fortress wall! Not the comfort of 5 star hotel, but you feel a bit home. Precious. I will return.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

My husband and I stayed for one week. Hotel was very close to Vatican museum and metro. The room although quite small had a very well equiped kitchen and a clean and comfortable bed. "Great hotel lovely staff v close to Vatican"
Delightfully helpful staff. Nice clean rooms with good mini kitchen facilities. Lots of local markets, close to Vatican, restaurants and transport to the rest of Rome. Local streets are typically Roman (but not of the Ancient variety) and not overly packed with tourists!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Ideal for Vatican and Vatican Museum"

"Excellent choice to visit Rome"
The hotel is both convientently located (close to the Vatican, subway, good restaurants and nice boutiques) and ideally equipped for a conmfortable stay (the room had a kitchen, fridge and ironing board, as well as a nice rooftop terrace). I stayed at this hotel twice (2010 and 2014) and I highly recommend it.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Excellent Clean hotel in an ideal location"
We went as a family and stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment. The Hotel is in a great location for visiting all the main attractions of Rome with the nearest metro and bus stop only a couple of minutes walk away. The Vatican museum is a 5 minutes walk away and St Peter's square a 8-10 minutes walk away. Sparkling clean bathrooms and clean rooms. Good Wi-Fi. […] Enjoyed our stay and would definitely go again. "Hotel Candia by vatican"
The area looked run down but was safe and fine. A close walk to Vatican and metro so that was good. Staff were good except night shift guy who didn't want to intervene when a crowd of teenagers showed up and made noise until 2 am for 2 of the 3 nights we stayed. I was mad as hell and nobody including their teachers wanted to control them. So if you […] are with a family check first if there are any large party of teenagers. European kids do what they want. Dino and Tony's restaurant on via leon didn't look much from outside (they recommended it) but the atmosphere was excellent and a true local dining experience worth going to. Internet was patchy at best so don't rely on it, TV signal poor as was channel selection even for world cup and AC weak. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great start to family holiday in Italy"
I took a standard room for my 3 year old daughter, hubby and I. It was simple and small of course to SA hotels but had everything we need. We had a double bed in the room and they added a single for my daughter. There a small table that can be folded out so 3 of us ate comfortably. Little kitchen. Bathroom was a great size as I expected tiny. Even had […] a hand held shower so bathing my daughter was easy. Laundry, supermarket is really close by. Vatican city is 2 mins walk. So it metro bus. Railway about 5 mins walk (with a stroller). Great for a small family. Wifi was weak in the room even after they reset it. So I had to go to the room corridor to pick up signal and then it stayed when i walked in the room. Go figure! But at reception was great, just to let the family know we fine so didnt really worry about it. Road gets noisy at 1am when they pick up the trash so you will wake even very tired after a day in Rome. It set my sleep pattern for the rest of Italy so strongly suggest a room not facing the street. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Excellent Staff, very good customer service"
The room is quite small but the awesome staff is all worth the stay. They are very friendly and helpful. The bed is very comfy and the washroom is clean. The towels are white and soft. "Great location but slow to resolve problems"
Nice hotel, great location - close to Vatican and Metro. However, on arrival they did not have details of our booking. Eventually got the room sorted but the fridge was not working. Every day for the next 5 days we requested that the fridge be looked at and fixed and it never was. We had several visits from hotel staff that just turned the dial around […] and said wait 10 minutes but the issue was never resolved. Very disappointed with this as we have 2 young children and an apartment with a fridge as essential for us. For our whole stay the issue was never sorted and this put a negative slant on our stay in Rome. Shame, but this is typical of Rome, plenty of great historical sights but the customer service and the cleanliness of the whole city leaves a lot to be desired. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Excellent location, very cosy!"
We booked Residence Candia as we had recently been to Amsterdam and enjoyed the flexibility of an apartment. Our one bedroom apartment was in reality a double room with one wall adapted for cooking etc and a bit cramped. Once we reconciled ourselves to that, we really enjoyed staying at Residence Candia. Really friendly and accommodating staff - like […] leaving our luggage there after we checked out so we could explore Rome further before flying home. The room was very clean and the bathroom was excellent, spacious and clean. The environs of Residence Candia have a wonderful airy feel and its location is excellent, 5 minutes walk from the entrance to the Vatican Museums and 7 minutes or so to the metro. We really enjoyed our stay at Residence Candia and Rome, what a City! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Budget apartments. Good for the money."
The staff at reception was polite but we did not find them very helpful. They do not replace soaps, bedsheets, towels, etc daily. We booked a 1 br apartment, we were given a small room with a double bed and 2 single bunk beds, there was also a compact kitchen plus breakfast area outside the room. The hotel does not offer breakfast which I guess is mentioned […] on their website. Kitchen is useful but except for basic utensils, nothing is provided. The location is near Vatican and is mainly for tourists so is very expensive. Overall, a good place for short stay (we were out most of the time during the day), good location (i.e. safe neighbourhood, local metro train station is close) and I guess not very expensive. "Price, location and facilities excellent"
Reasonable price and 3 minute walk to underground. Vatican City walls 2-3 minute walk, museum 10 minutes and entrance to St. Peters' 20 min. Local dining, night life 2-20 minutes. Staff more than helpful with tips on transit, good eating, and what is worth seeing and not. Housekeeping superb. And there are dishes, utensils, great variety of pots and […] pans good enough for any cook. "Fantastic hotel for families"
I booked this hotel as we wanted the option of self catering with the benefits of a hotel. The kitchen was perfectly equipped for this, in addition there was a great supermarket very close by and plenty of cafes and restaurants. The metro station was also very close and took minutes to get into the centre of Rome very cheaply.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great place for Family/groups"
Hotel seems split in two blocks, the one with the reception area etc has smaller more modern rooms some with balcony and are very nicely done but are compact the family room we could have had, had small bedrooms. While the one we picked in the older block had three bedrooms and could sleep eight or more. It was older and a couple of the rooms need some […] decorating soon, but it was very clean and spacious, nice kitchen area and space to be away from other if need be sometimes very handy on a family holiday, better than living on top of each other for us anyway. The only other thing is that the shower in the newer units would be larger and again more modern Hotel is very central and we would be happy to recommend the hotel. The staff we encountered were helpful and friendly although the older block is entered from the street thro a locked main door. If going back to Rome we would certainly look at staying here again. If the decor was done in the room we had it would have gotten 5 star especially for the price and location Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Nice hotel with great staff and we had a good stay but very noisy! Maybe we should have expected this in the centre of Rome but traffic noise was pertty loud.Genuine Expedia guest review
More like a motel/hostel.. If your waist line is more than 36 then this place is not for you. If you are traveling with your spouse then you would be better off with other options. Limited walking space. Basically you wouldn't have ample space if you have more than 1 luggage. No carpet so you would be walking on their floor which feels like pvc cover. "Our tiny Home in Rome"
We were given room 442 which I reckon is the smallest room in the hotel. But room was very clean, kitchenette well set up & all the gadgets, utensils as well as the bathroom were squeaky clean. Although there are two double beds (bunk bed formation) & can sleep 4, I would say the room is remarkably small & is good for a lightly built couple like us. "Candia is great for smokers and vampires!"
The room was entirely too small; we could have dealt with that, but we were located immediately above the parking lot, and experienced noise all night involving late night party goers, arrivals, and departures. Overall, it was great to stay there. Just only thing you might need to remember is that it's close to vatican but not to city center. You need to take a metro or bus. Location is fantastic for Vatican museums, metro and places to eat. Staff very friendly and always willing to help. Hotel itself could do with refurbishment and modernising. "Compact and bijoux"
A great hotel just behind the Vatican and near to the metro and a supermarket. As you can see from the photos the rooms are very compact and anyone over a size 20 would not be able to get into the shower. However we really enjoyed staying here. It is definitely worth paying a little more for the penthouse rooms, as they have a private terrace, and […] the kitchen is bigger and better equipped. We got into the habit od eating out for lunch and coming back to cook something simple in the evening whilst sitting out on the terrace. "THE GRAND TOUR"
Residence Candia provides a perfect location for a sightseeing holiday in Rome - it is well equipped and immaculately clean with everything in the studio you would need. Very close to St Peters and Vatican and with nearby metro and bus services ideal for touring the city and all other sites. Walking is a great way to get around and you must be prepared […] to take time to explore the bus services which are excellent once you have sussed out and also, as we were there for 5 days, the 16 euro ticket which covers all is unbelievable value for money. The hotel staff could not be more helpful and multi lingual - the city map, freely available on the reception desk, provides the perfect guide for the city and sites. Residence Candia is close to various supermarkets and restaurants which fit into every price range but especially valuable for us was Feliziano Pasticceria on Via Candia just a few blocks down. Their range is superb and they do carry outs - we were in Rome for International Tennis as well as sightseeing and the food from there provided us with great picnics for taking to the tennis - excellent meat dishes plus lots of good vegetables. The cakes and pastries are to die for and we cannot recommend it too highly - all prices extremely reasonable and brilliant service. We would not hesitate to return whenever visiting Rome and will recommend most highly to all friends and family. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
