I would recommand anyone to staty in this hotel. It would be a completely different experience. Hotel was very clean and comfortable.Not only that nicely located.

We stayed at this hotel on our July 2009 trip through Scandinavia. I selected this hotel due to some of the reviews and the "cool" factor of staying in an old prison. Positives: The hotel was very clean, staff was very friendly, and was pretty "cool" as you were in an old prison complete with walls on the outside. The room had wireless Internet, and a great flat screen TV with quite a few channels. There is also a tram stop right outside the front door basically, so that is convenient if taking public transport. Negatives: Like an old prison, the room was pretty tiny and the breakfast while pretty good seemed to be empty of food even within 30 minutes of ending. It seemed they stopped stocking food the last hour, and with a 6 month old baby we seemed to always be getting there right before closing time. That all being said, this is a pretty "cool" hotel for a chain as long as you don't want a huge room...but than again what else did you expect booking in an old prison?

We stayed for 3 nights with a 22 month-old and it was really super. The room was a good size and the beds were very comfortable. The buffet breakfast was a good mix of food, both hot and cold, which you could eat at your own pace. It was a 10-minute walk to the main harbour or you could jump on a tram, a stop for which was just outside the hotel. As long as you don't want lots of other facilities, this hotel is ideal for visiting Helsinki.

After spending almost two weeks traveling in Eastern Europe, I was delighted the comfortable accommodations and the really comfortable mattress at this hotel. Being close to the ferry and local merchants was a plus.

Besides an excellent room, the front desk was extremely helpful with our questions. Additionally, the breakfast spread was very well presented and had great choices. Definitely a choice for easy excursions with the tram 100 feet from the front door.

If you are looking for a unique high quality stay in Helsinki, this is it. They have done an amazing job turning this until recent prison into a Hotel. Only the restaurant could use maybe a tiny bit more light - although the dungeon look is intended. It brightens up for breakfast. The Hotel is located on a penisula a short walk away from the Ferry Terminals. Tram line 4 stops right next to the hotel to give you a ride, 8 Mins to city center - if you don't just walk there (25min) taking in Helsinki's flair - or connect to bus line 615 which takes you to the airport in 45mins.

An unusual hotel where the 'theme' style works and is not just 'quirky' and 'fake'

Our stay was enjoyable. The staff were very helpful. The bar and restaurant were very friendly. We also enjoyed the accessibility to public transport (tram). Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to stay in Helsinki. Thank you very much.

Brilliant! Just make sure you find out about the times of the Sauna as it is not open on Sunday and only open for an hour a day.

Dette var en meget bra erfaring. Likte rommene og interiøret. En fin plassering i Helsinki. Sentralt, men samtidig litt skjermet. Fin trikkeforbindelse til sentrum.

Beautiful atmosphere (the former Helsinki prison), huge breakfast buffet, fine restaurant, good service. Convenient downtown location and connections (tram stop outside the Hotel)

Nous avons passé un week-end à Helsinki, le choix de l'hôtel était important car nous savions que le tour de la capitale est vite faite. Les enfants ont adoré cette prison, très bonne décoration ... génial. Propreté très bien, le petit-déjeuner abondant. Seul point négatif était le service lors de notre dîner le soir au restaurant "Jailbird", la famille nombreuse à nos côtés ne tenait pas ses 4 enfants en place. Nous avons demandé de nous pouvoir mettre ailleurs, mais c'était refusé, malgré des tables disponibles. Le repas mêmes était très bon, mais nous avons du l'attendre plus que 35 minutes ! Et, pour les enfants ont ne met pas de poivre d'une telle quantité sur la viande !!!! Ils ne l'ont pas mangé ! Sinon, séjour agréable et à refaire.

Surprise d'abord, car cet hôtel est une ancienne prison et a conservé l'architecture propre à ce type d'établissement. Service et confort de l'hôtel irréprochables.

Peaceful and quiet hotel in the heart of Helsinki. Easy access with bike (for rent at hotel) and tram to anywhere in the city. This old prison has thick walls and you will not hear anybody while sleeping here. We really enjoyed our stay here. If you come by boat from Stockholm, the Viking terminal is walking distance. We chose Silja line, which was a bit further but still possible to walk with suitcase on wheels.

Hotellet ligger i gåafstand fra centrum og havnen, i en stille gade Det er helt moderniseret og en smule upersonligt. Værelse og bad var dog meget indbydende, men man kan ikke åbne vinduerne. Ja, det er jo et forhenværende fængsel! Personalet i receptionen var meget venligt og hjælpsomt. Desværre kan det samme ikke siges om tjeneren i hotellets restaurant JAILBIRD. Han var sur og arrangant og fik os til at føle os meget uvelkomne inden vi nogensinde havde fået sat os. Der findes heldigvis andre steder at spise, så vi gik igen.

Hotellet er spennende, sentralt og komfortabelt. Anbefaler gjerne hotellet til andre reisende

Centralt beliggende hotel med forbindelse til offentlig transport via linie 4 sporvogn lige uden for hotellet. God morgenmad og et hotel med atmosfære i et ombygget fængsel.

Hotellet ligger i et rolig strøk i gå-avstand til sentrum. Ganske små, men fine rom. Vi fikk ikke åpnet vinduer til lufting; det var litt synd. God frokost og god service. Her får man god valuta for pengene.

De originele staat van het hotel ( gevangenis) is goed bewaard gebleven. Het is met de tram goed bereikbaar. Je hebt totaal gen last van verkeer. Aardige bediening

Zijn hartje winter voor een lang weekend naar Helsinki geweest en verbleven in het Best Western hotel Katajanokka. Geweldig hotel in een voormalige gevangenis. Vriendelijk personeel. Super schone en luxe kamers. In de kelder een leuk restaurant waar het goed toeven is. Het ontbijtbuffet was zeer uitgebreid. De tram stopt voor de deur en binnen 5 minuten sta je in het centrum van Helsinki. Kan het hotel van harte bij iedereen aanbevelen. Sauna en fitness aanwezig in het hotel.

C'est un établissement original, avec rapport qualité-prix très très bon. Le décor des chambres est moderne, de bon goût, avec un bel écran plat. La literie est excellente, et la salle de bains de belle qualité. Le petit déjeuner buffet est remarquable. La situation géographique de l'hôtel est parfaite dans Helsinki. Une adresse à retenir absolument.

Kjempe god frokost, flott sauna som er tilgjengelig på ukedagene og gode rom. Trikk rett utenfor døra, ellers tar det kun 10 minutter å gå inn til byen. Bor gjerne her igjen.

Det var en fantastisk uke i Helsinki, og hotellet er nå en del av fine minner. Både stedet hvor hotellet ligger (stille og rolig men ikke langt unna sentrum, nær havet) og oppholdet på hotellet likte vi veldig godt. Etter lange turer i byen var det veldig hyggelig å komme "hjem", som vi kalte rommet vårt. Dessuten, det var morsomt å bo i "fengsel". Maten på restauranten var veldig god. Skal vi til Helsinki neste gang, bor vi gjerne på det samme hotellet.
