The hotel was nice... comfortable rooms, right off the interstate. The problem was that it was quite a ways away from everything else in the city.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Service was friendly and speedy. In general, it was a pleasant stay. The room was a good size, the bathroom had plenty of room. Loved that they had DirecTV. The only complaints we had were: The room was freezing when the air was on. Would have left it off, however, it's August in Iowa..... There was a stain on one of the bedspreads. We did not report […] either of these issues with the hotel. I'm sure if we would have, it would have been taken care of. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"College visit comfort"
I was pleasantly surprised at the efficiency of the check-in....the girl who was running the desk obviously knows computers. The room was very clean and chilly, perfect on a very hot day! We went right to our room and settled in, comfy beds too. Nice clean bathroom, would have liked higher ADA toilets, but otherwise great. The breakfast was on par with […] most Marriott properties, lots of choices. The only lack was plates, but the attendant was working on it. We were there with many other college visit families, and the desk clerk was helpful with directions, and the property is just a few miles to campus. Will definitely visit again! "Convient for work with the Veterinary School"
I was frustrated at first. I had made the reservation on the internet. I had called the hotel the night before arrival to add a name to the room as that person was arriving before I was. I was assured that it wouldn't be a problem and the person took my information down. I found out the next day that the front desk made the other person sit in the lobby/dining […] area for 3 hours because they wouldn't let her in without my signature!! This hotel was clean, breakfast was decent, and the pool was nice. The only thing I didn't like is that the beds were really high. It was difficult to get in and out of the beds, as I am only 5'2". The bed was literally waist high on me. I can't imagine a person with physical limitations trying to get in and out of these beds. I do have to say that […] they were comfortable once I got in it. I don't know the purpose of these high beds, other than design, but it isn't really functional in a hotel where people of all sizes and abilities will stay. Again, other than the high beds, this was a great hotel. I will stay again, but next time I will bring a step stool. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice and quiet"
Spent a night here during ISU orientation. A very comfortable hotel. Nice and quiet even though it was a full house. The view from our window was of an open farm field. Just lovely. The breakfast was very nice. The eggs were delicious and the coffee was fresh. I would stay here again. With 2 sons at ISU we probably will.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Construction/remodel being done during our stay. Messy but not too bad. Staff took care of the little kids running in the hallways above us but the "wedding guests" that came in to hang out in the lobby/lounge area were crazy loud for until 12:45. You should not have to complain about people partying that near the front desk.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The cooling system did not work. The thermostat was partially behing the refrigerator/microwave cabinet and hard to read. I thought it actually was working until I figured out the motor noise was the refrigerator. Had two dirty rags on the bathroom counter when I arrived. Overall an incredibly bad hotel, only booked because everything was booked. Next […] time, I will drive to Des Moines rather than staying here! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

My overall satisfaction of this hotel was good. Close to eating places, good continental breakfast, and comfortable room. The only downfall was that the hot tub was not working so we could not enjoy that after a cold snowy day outside.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

I booked this room from Expedia and didnt know what to expect. Very pleased from the time we got there til we left. Clean remodeled rooms, brand new comfortable beds ,loved the soft pillows, and the bedding didnt really look like hotel bedding...Genuine Expedia guest review
Hotel was very nice and well kept . They have an excellent breakfast bar and food was very good.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very disappointing to wake up to go to breakfast and be told that they are out of milk and do nothing about it. There is a convenience store a block away and they will not go and get milk.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Nothing really bad, nothing rally good. Could have been any chain of a lower class too. Hot tub does not heat up, surface cleaner all over the desk, and everything is soaked in it. Looks like there is no ownership or care in this hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice, clean and roomy"
Seemed like a newer hotel and it was nicely kept up, the rooms were bigger than I expected. The lobby was set up well for breakfast. The included breakfast was good. The staff was nice. Overall a positive experience.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Good hotel with two compaints: 1) the only food available, other than at breakfast, was from a vending machine, 2) the small exercise room had two treadmills and one elliptical type machine. "Best so far"
We have now been to Ames twice and this stay was much better than our last one. The room was very clean so we were not uncomfortable walking around without shoes on. "Great hotel for family"
We enjoyed the hotel stay very much. It is conveniently located right off I-35 and between 5-10mins away from the Iowa State campus, which made it easy for us to drive since we were coming in from out-of-town. The complimentary breakfast was very well-managed and they had all the basics that you needed for a good start to the day. Other amenities like […] the business center, complimentary wireless and coin-operated laundry facility were also nice touches. Overall, this hotel is a great deal for a family that is looking for a well-managed and relatively inexpensive hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Close to Iowa State University"
I have never stayed at a hotel where the receptionist called me in my room after about 10 minutes after checking in to see if my room was okay with our family. It was very well kept, looked and smelled clean, linens were new/not worn. Temperature felt great. We were happy and there were cheaper hotels in the area but we usually have good luck with this […] hotel chain so we paid a little more than the neighboring hotel and it was all good! "Weekend Away with the Kids"
The room was very clean and the beds were extremely comfortable. The shower pressure was good too. The breakfast was average in quality, however there was a variety of things to choose from. The only complaint I have was that the women's restroom in the main part of the building was closed due to repair and there wasn't anywhere else to go. "Nice, comfortable place to stay"
This was a comfortable place for our family of 4, including 2 young children. The breakfast area was large, and there was an excellent selection of breakfast items. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The location is a little remote from other businesses in Ames, but nothing in Ames is far from anything else, so it's not a big deal. The hotel […] is close to the interstate, which is nice. Overall, I would recommend it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"No hot tub - paid an extra 30 for nothing!"
Rooms were not ready as they were probably short on staff due to blizzard. We chose this hotel because it had a hot tub - and it was not working. They did not offer to discuss the extra cost we had and did not ask us how our stay was when checking out. That was 30 dollars extra for nothing. Very nicely remodeled floor we were on.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good room with great staff."
Stayed over night with children for an outing the next day. First were kindly greeted by staff, check on a breeze when manager heard kids on lobby came out of office and asked if my son could have a treat and have him a snack size candy bar very thoughtful and welcoming. Had a 2 queen bed room. Good size, room for my daughter's pack N play & still room for the kids to play. Staff went out of their way to find us a fan for white noise to help the kids sleep. Only negative during stay is that the swimming pool was rather cold especially for little ones. Excellent breakfast, the best I have ever had for a "hotel breakfast". In AM manger was attentive to guests at breakfast and even helped us load our bags on the car since we had our hands full with kids. If we ever need to stay in Ames again this will be the place.

This is a nice clean hotel with an awsome free hot breakfast. We stayed there for three nights and had a different hot breakfast each morning. Rooms were clean and the hallway traffic at night was pretty quiet... It was college "move in" weekend and this place was amazing!
"Good Weekend Stay"
08/03/14 richie1732 Oronoco, Minnesota
Stayed a Friday & Saturday night in a King Suite. It was a little tight in the room when the sofa sleeper was opened for the 3rd in our group. We asked the housekeeper to put sheets on it but she forgot so we had to ask for them later. The Inn is being renovated & is looking good. Breakfast included a lot of variety including scramble d eggs, make your own waffles, mixed fruit, fresh fruit, cold cereal, juice, milk, items to toast & yogurt. ALL staff we encountered were professional & welcoming.

This was our first night on the road of a week long vacation. We had just done the train ride in Boone and wanted to check in and the kids were ready for a dip in the pool. We are a family traveling with two children, ages 7 and 4. Check-in went smoothy, I can't complain of the price since this was a free stay for us as we had Marriott certificates to use before they expired. We checked in and after going out for dinner, we went down to the pool. The pool was small but warm enough to swim in. The hot tub was very hot and I couldn't stay in it. We had a nice swim and went up to get ready for bed. Unfortunately, the other guests in the hotel were very loud and noisy and we didn't get as good as sleep as we had hoped. I didn't consider that the hotel problem as much as the adults in charge of the team that was staying the same night we were there. The bed was surprisingly high which made me nervous as my 4 year old still rolls around quite a bit as she sleeps. I had to get up twice to push her back closer to the middle of the bed. The hotel has recently been remodeled and it was all very nice and clean and smelled good. The room seemed a tiny bit on the narrow side as there was not much room to move the cart in and out of the room. My husband raved about the height of the shower head and the good shower he had at the hotel. Breakfast was excellent with a good variety of items. My son loved the cinnamon rolls. But with many hotels, the staff can make your day by being friendly and answering questions. Whitney who was working the front desk that morning had a quick smile and made my morning better by being so friendly as I was trying to get us all up and out for our next adventure.

Because of death in family and game and other event going on in Ames forced to stay here. Walls are thin can hear people talking in next room, can hear people walking down the hallways talking in a normal voice. Can hear people walking around in room above us.. AC broken so stays on very cold with high fan running so I had to unplug to get it to stop working. Doors are heavy so they slam shut loudly.
"Very new and nice"

In Ames for the weekend for a basketball tournament. I had not stayed at a Fairfield before but was quite impressed with this one. It appears extremely new. There isn't a lot of places immediately nearby, but close enough. You could tell the newness by the softness of the carpet, especially in the hall ways. The rooms were very nice and I especially like the raised beds...a nice touch. The continental breakfast was typical...nothing out of this world, but good enough. The rooms were impeccable and the staff was very friendly. The $150 rate was high, but it seemed to be the going rate unless you wanted a motel type stay. I would certainly returm
"Pleasant stay in Ames"
06/20/14 OCALAFLORIDATRAVELER Ocala, Florida
I was a bit apprehensive about booking this location coming from Wichita, KS. We checked in the night of the bad storms and it was a bit sketchy for awhile. We never lost power but could tell we were in the midst of a upper midwest thunderstorm. Being from Florida we are used to storms but not on this level. We barely got checked in and settled and all hell broke loose. Checkin was uneventful I don't recall the young lady thanking me for being an Elite member although our keys indicated that. The room was nice and what I would expect from a Fairfield and wish they had the same layout here in Wausau, WI at the Fairfield. We had a nice night sleep after the storms moved through and woke up to a clear and sunny day. After being on the road I was exhausted so we didn't do the breakfast. Overall impressed with the hotel. They didn't have any supplies or drinks like they normally do at a fairfield. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the Ames, IA area. My advice though is to get your drinks and sandwiches at the neighboring truck stop subway store. They didn't have anything in the lobby.

It is a good hotel. They made sure I knew in advance that they were going through some constructions and painting repairs in the lobby. I was in the second floor and I was able to hear people walking in the third floor.
"Clean Hotel w/ Friendly Employees"
05/06/14 Amy O Maplewood, Minnesota
This was our second stay at this hotel. The first time was two years ago. Nice, clean hotel. The employees are very friendly and helpful. We were there visiting family and stayed two nights. It is VERY important to me that a hotel is clean and this hotel fit the bill! Other than construction/remodel stuff in the lobby area, the hotel was very orderly and clean. The hotel is just finishing up with a remodel - the guest rooms are done and when we were there, they were finishing with the lobby and breakfast area. We were very happy with our room - it was completely updated and the bed was very comfortable. It was really nice to have a microwave and refrigerator in our room - with a 4 year old, we need that for snacks and leftovers from eating out. Breakfast was nice - eggs, bacon, toast, bagels, fruit, cereal, oatmeal, milk, juice, yogurt, muffins....something for everyone. My 4 year old found something she liked and was happy and that is a big deal! The gal taking care of the breakfast area was very hard working and was continually refilling everything! I would absolutely recommend this hotel! It is like new and the service really is great. We will stay again next time we visit!
"Just remodeled....looks like the whole place is now new again!"
05/03/14 kh57ca San Francisco Bay Area
I stayed a night recently on a business trip. When I arrived there was lots of construction trailers and equipment parked out front. i was a bit uncertain as to whether they were open or under construction. When I walked in the lobby.....my view stayed the same, there was carpet and other materials everywhere, and lots of workers working.....but there was someone at the reception who greeted me. They asked whether I knew they had remodeling going...and well I didn't. But as I learned it was the lobby area they were finishing up...the rooms were already complete. I was very pleasantly surprised by the room. It was completely updated. And when I checked out in the morning...the lobby was nearly complete, although when I arrived the afternoon before it was a disaster. I didn't stay for the morning breakfast...but instead chose to go to a nearby restaurant. But I would recommend this hotel...it's like new, and the service I had was great. Enjoy
