"Dont change my room after I book it!"
Hotel is very updated and clean. Staff is friendly, breakfast is hot and lots of options for every palate. Rooms are clean and bathrooms are modern and clean. However, when I book a room through hotels.com, it asks me to specifically choose a room style (king or double queens) and quite often the price reflects the room style. I choose certain hotels […] for a reason (many times it is due to our needs to either have 1 king bed or 2 queens). I am very unhappy when I arrive at the hotel to find that the website has changed our room style and if I need to change it back, they want to charge more money!! I will be contacting hotels.com to give my remarks on this inconveninece. Otherwise, Fairfield Inn is wonderful in every way!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The room is clean, closed captioning on tv was easy to set up, had a hard time using the Wi-Fi - weak, location next door is the construction, wish the book has a map of where the nearby shopping, restaurants, etc. The person on the front desk is pleasant but refuse to write down as I'm deaf. She chatting while I tried to ask her to write down on paper. […] Other than that, it was good. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

The hotel was nice... comfortable rooms, right off the interstate. The problem was that it was quite a ways away from everything else in the city.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Service was friendly and speedy. In general, it was a pleasant stay. The room was a good size, the bathroom had plenty of room. Loved that they had DirecTV. The only complaints we had were: The room was freezing when the air was on. Would have left it off, however, it's August in Iowa..... There was a stain on one of the bedspreads. We did not report […] either of these issues with the hotel. I'm sure if we would have, it would have been taken care of. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"College visit comfort"
I was pleasantly surprised at the efficiency of the check-in....the girl who was running the desk obviously knows computers. The room was very clean and chilly, perfect on a very hot day! We went right to our room and settled in, comfy beds too. Nice clean bathroom, would have liked higher ADA toilets, but otherwise great. The breakfast was on par with […] most Marriott properties, lots of choices. The only lack was plates, but the attendant was working on it. We were there with many other college visit families, and the desk clerk was helpful with directions, and the property is just a few miles to campus. Will definitely visit again! "Convient for work with the Veterinary School"
I was frustrated at first. I had made the reservation on the internet. I had called the hotel the night before arrival to add a name to the room as that person was arriving before I was. I was assured that it wouldn't be a problem and the person took my information down. I found out the next day that the front desk made the other person sit in the lobby/dining […] area for 3 hours because they wouldn't let her in without my signature!! This hotel was clean, breakfast was decent, and the pool was nice. The only thing I didn't like is that the beds were really high. It was difficult to get in and out of the beds, as I am only 5'2". The bed was literally waist high on me. I can't imagine a person with physical limitations trying to get in and out of these beds. I do have to say that […] they were comfortable once I got in it. I don't know the purpose of these high beds, other than design, but it isn't really functional in a hotel where people of all sizes and abilities will stay. Again, other than the high beds, this was a great hotel. I will stay again, but next time I will bring a step stool. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice and quiet"
Spent a night here during ISU orientation. A very comfortable hotel. Nice and quiet even though it was a full house. The view from our window was of an open farm field. Just lovely. The breakfast was very nice. The eggs were delicious and the coffee was fresh. I would stay here again. With 2 sons at ISU we probably will.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Construction/remodel being done during our stay. Messy but not too bad. Staff took care of the little kids running in the hallways above us but the "wedding guests" that came in to hang out in the lobby/lounge area were crazy loud for until 12:45. You should not have to complain about people partying that near the front desk.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The cooling system did not work. The thermostat was partially behing the refrigerator/microwave cabinet and hard to read. I thought it actually was working until I figured out the motor noise was the refrigerator. Had two dirty rags on the bathroom counter when I arrived. Overall an incredibly bad hotel, only booked because everything was booked. Next […] time, I will drive to Des Moines rather than staying here! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

My overall satisfaction of this hotel was good. Close to eating places, good continental breakfast, and comfortable room. The only downfall was that the hot tub was not working so we could not enjoy that after a cold snowy day outside.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Very disappointing to wake up to go to breakfast and be told that they are out of milk and do nothing about it. There is a convenience store a block away and they will not go and get milk.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Nothing really bad, nothing rally good. Could have been any chain of a lower class too. Hot tub does not heat up, surface cleaner all over the desk, and everything is soaked in it. Looks like there is no ownership or care in this hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice, clean and roomy"
Seemed like a newer hotel and it was nicely kept up, the rooms were bigger than I expected. The lobby was set up well for breakfast. The included breakfast was good. The staff was nice. Overall a positive experience.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Good hotel with two compaints: 1) the only food available, other than at breakfast, was from a vending machine, 2) the small exercise room had two treadmills and one elliptical type machine. "Best so far"
We have now been to Ames twice and this stay was much better than our last one. The room was very clean so we were not uncomfortable walking around without shoes on. "Great hotel for family"
We enjoyed the hotel stay very much. It is conveniently located right off I-35 and between 5-10mins away from the Iowa State campus, which made it easy for us to drive since we were coming in from out-of-town. The complimentary breakfast was very well-managed and they had all the basics that you needed for a good start to the day. Other amenities like […] the business center, complimentary wireless and coin-operated laundry facility were also nice touches. Overall, this hotel is a great deal for a family that is looking for a well-managed and relatively inexpensive hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Close to Iowa State University"
I have never stayed at a hotel where the receptionist called me in my room after about 10 minutes after checking in to see if my room was okay with our family. It was very well kept, looked and smelled clean, linens were new/not worn. Temperature felt great. We were happy and there were cheaper hotels in the area but we usually have good luck with this […] hotel chain so we paid a little more than the neighboring hotel and it was all good! "Weekend Away with the Kids"
The room was very clean and the beds were extremely comfortable. The shower pressure was good too. The breakfast was average in quality, however there was a variety of things to choose from. The only complaint I have was that the women's restroom in the main part of the building was closed due to repair and there wasn't anywhere else to go. "Nice, comfortable place to stay"
This was a comfortable place for our family of 4, including 2 young children. The breakfast area was large, and there was an excellent selection of breakfast items. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The location is a little remote from other businesses in Ames, but nothing in Ames is far from anything else, so it's not a big deal. The hotel […] is close to the interstate, which is nice. Overall, I would recommend it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"No hot tub - paid an extra 30 for nothing!"
Rooms were not ready as they were probably short on staff due to blizzard. We chose this hotel because it had a hot tub - and it was not working. They did not offer to discuss the extra cost we had and did not ask us how our stay was when checking out. That was 30 dollars extra for nothing. Very nicely remodeled floor we were on.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Clean, Quiet and a Great Value"
02/22/15 Ron D Naperville, Illinois
Great hotel that we stay at when visiting our ISU student. Have stayed here several times over the past 18 months. Rooms are clean and quiet. Decor is new as are the room appointments. Staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast is good though that area can be busy at certain times of the morning. The hotel is only a few minutes from the university, restaurants and the main shopping area (Walmart, Target, Home Depot,...). Far enough away from though to avoid the traffic in these areas (what traffic there is in Ames). The hotel is just off the highway and only about a mile from I-35. Also, we discovered the light over the sink in the bathroom was not working the morning after we arrived. Hotel staff was very helpful, repaired the problem (I think the balast was bad) and gave us a $20 credit on that night stay (without our asking for it). We will definitely stay again.
"LOVED our stay!"
01/24/15 pavelka Britt, Iowa
Stayed one night with family. Hotel is absolutely beautiful, super clean. Staff was out-of-their-way friendly. Wonderfully soft beds; big tub/shower with high, adjustable shower head. Breakfast was filled with options (hard boiled & scrambled eggs, turkey sausage, waffles, muffins, breads/bagles, fruits, cereals, yogurt, juices, etc). Yes, it was a bit pricier, but well worth it. Should the need arise again, we will definitely choose this hotel again!
"Neat hotel, somewhat above expectations"
Our stay for 1 week for business was good in this hotel; clean comfortable rooms, excellent wifi, average breakfast though nice choice for coffee in the morning: all in all a very pleasant comfortable stay.

Pros: -very clean room and facilities -staff were friendly -location convenient to highway Cons: -breakfast quality was fair -hot tub temperature was a bit cool Overall verdict: hotel was fine for a short business trip. If I need to go to Ames again, I'd stay again

I can't believe this hotel is so far down the list on TA. I came into town for business and usually stay at HI or HIE but there was something going on in town and there rates had more than doubled. That's just nuts. I seen the Fairfield and thought what the heck I'll give them a try. To my surprise the room rate was great best in town for this kind of quality. The lady ( leila I think) was so helpful and check in was a breeze. The room (king) was big and had micro/fridge. The beds are a little high but they are sure comfortable. Wifi works great and the breakfast was good. I will be checking the Fairfield out more often in my travels.

Have only stayed there once for business but slept wonderfully. The beds are a little high off the ground, but once I made it, the sleep was excellent. Everything was clean and well maintained. The people were helpful, but not intrusive. Breakfast is your typical Fairfield. Not much nearby, but the local strip of restaurants is only the next exit over.

"Nice Quiet Friendly Place to Stay"
10/22/14 RetiredArmyRANGER San Antonio, Texas
Stayed 5 nights at this location and it was a very nice stay. With a renovated lobby and rooms the price was right. The usual FREE breakfast WIFI and health amenities were also available. If I were in this location again I would stay here. From checkin to checkout everything was Marriott quality and the customer service representatives were friendly. The downside of this hotel is the location, it is about a mile from the local eateries on Duff Street in Ames. Thanks for reading. Highly recommended and as usual a video on the Youtube channel. If it helps leave a thumbs up! RetiredArmyRANGER

"Great place to stay"

Our family just spent a weekend at the hotel. When we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised by the modern decor and colors in the lobby. The check in process was quick and we got a nice room on the second floor. Our room was equally as nice and modern as the lobby. In fact, my kids said the colors were just what they would have chosen for their rooms (teal, harvest yellow, browns). The carpet looked new. But the best part was the comfy beds~ they were higher up than usual (easy to get in and out of) and firm. It was very quiet at night, though the hotel parking lot was full. We will definitely stay again.
