Harrigan's Irish Pub & Accommodation - Pokolbin

We stayed one night here on our way up to Brisbane. Clean, quaint rooms, with a private lower balcony. Right in the midst of wine country. Nice pub and bistro and wine cellar on property. Staff were very helpful and accommodating. We would definitely recommend.

Two nights not really enough to do all the wineries and sightseeing! Hotel is in the middle of Pokolbin at the heart of the Hunter valley. Great food and comfortable rooms. We were on the edge of a vineyard and roos came to visit night & morning!

Lovely atmosphere to the whole complex. Perhaps some small cooking facilities in the double rooms would have been good. ie toaster, microwave as breakfast is $20 whether you have a hot breakfast or continental and this got quite expensive. Would definitely stay there again.

My husband and I recently spent 2 nights at this establishment and were very happy it. We checked in on a Saturday afternoon and found the staff to be very friendly and helpful - actually all the staff we encountered during our stay were friendly and helpful! We just chose a Studio room as it was all we required for the weekend. We found the room and […] bathroom to be very spacious with decent furnishings and decor. We had a nice private rear courtyard garden through patio doors and the benefit of being able to park undercover right outside the front door. Previous reviews had mentioned noise disturbance from the live bands at the pub next door, so we asked for a room as far away as possible. We didn't hear anything and had a good night's rest. The huge king size bed was very comfortable. The attached Irish pub restaurant provided breakfast in the mornings for $18 if you booked in advance, which was an adequate buffet of the usual suspects. We also had dinner in the pub one night and enjoyed it. The hotel has a discount coupon that offers 2 for 1 at the adjacent Hunter Valley display Gardens which is very good value. Our first room was a big disappointment as it faced inwards towards the back of the pub. It was dark with no view from the outdoor area. I asked if it was possible to move and was told this wasn't possible. However, 20 minutes later i got a phone call to say another room was available. The rooms are motel-like and you can park your car right outside your room. The Twinings Irish tea in the room was a nice touch. The room was very clean, a comfortable bed, lots of pillows and a large TV. I thought it was good value for the money paid. Upon arrival we found out we'd been upgraded to a Premier suite! Fantastic room looking out over the vineyards & having a wine in front of the fire in the lounge room was a great way to end the day! Best location to stay - right in the middle of all the wineries so very easy to get anywhere.

Lovely visit to the vineyards. The winds were howling and we spend the first night wide awake because something was flapping around in the wind. Next day we could see it was the roof and reported this to staff - it was fixed immediately. Great central spot. Would stay again :)

When we arrived at harrigans we were met with a friendly receptionist and was upgraded to room 106, a three bedroom apartment with a kitchen, which was great! The only down side for us was that we were right next to restaurant and the music was very loud so unable to sleep til after 12, but if your up for a late one its great.

The Staff were very friendly and helpful. The meals were great, but huge. The atmosphere was wonderful. Our room was comfy and led out to our own private court yard with a table and seating for 2 people, looking out over the vineyards. Went as a family of 4. Booked an executive room and received a free upgrade to the two bedroom apartment. This was a great space for a family. Loved the wood fire place. The bathrooms were huge. Fully self contained kitchen was big with quality appliances.

Harrigans was so central to where we wanted to be in the Hunter Valley. The accommodation was great and only a short walk to the pub. The food was fantastic and so was the service. Would highly recommend for couples or groups

The room was comfortable and convenient when you can park the car just outside the door. The restaurant was good and I can recommend the Beef and Guinness Pie which in my opinion runs second behind the Irish Stew at the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin.

The setting of the hotel is in the middle of the beautiful Hunter Valley wine country and the room looked straight out on to a vineyard. I don't want to sound too critical because it is a nice place with nice people and I suspect offers some of the best value in the area. We booked through Hotels.com and so made a good saving on the room rate. However, I suspect that is why our room was close to the back of the kitchens and the exhaust fans and the view from the room was obscured by […] a ise in the land. Still, the room was nice and the fans were not that loud at night. I guess you get what you pay for. The food, especially the breakfast, was good. Very generous helpings and it was not hard to understand why the dining room was so busy at night - I think it again provides very good value in the lower Hunter. But this is all relative. While we were there there was a article in the paper on the sad state of Australian tourism. Unfortunately it is all too clear that travel in Australia is overpriced in comparison with the rest of the world. We spent 6 weeks travelling the UK stayin in BandBs and using the web to find good deals. I hate to think what six weeks doing that in Australia would have cost. Read more

Excellent location for winery tours, and only 500 metres from Hunter Valley Gardens and Village, which is a bonus. Convenient hotel and location. All staff were friendly and suggested me and my friend to go on a full day wine tour which was a highlight. We stayed on a Monday and Tuesday night so it was quiet, however I could imagine it would be a very lively place during the weekends.

The room was very clean, was a good size and modern. Unfortunalely, being the only pub in the Hunter Valley region there were groups of Bucks parties also using the accommodation. The noise from the pub was not disturbing but there was no control of the noise made by patrons or other guest near the the accommodation.
