Very limited cable channels. No ESPN, etc. Rooms are clean, though. Difficult location to get in and out of.

I just stayed at HoC this past weekend because I had work to do in the city. I got in on Friday night and stayed in my room to work all day Saturday and left Sunday for my other appointment and then home. The other reviews talk about this place being right out of the '60's, but it's more than just the quaint decor. The place was so clean and the people at the desk were very polite, and extremely helpful. I called ahead to check my reservation with the hotel and although what I had originally booked online was no longer available, they bent over backwards to accomodate me the best they could when I got there. I ended up liking what I got better than what I had originally booked. The breakfast is just cereal, juice, milk, and a variety of muffins, granola bars, donuts, fruit and coffee, but was a nice extra for such an inexpensive place. Basic cable channels, no hairdryers or irons, no microwave or coffee maker. I think the price offsets those things nicely. If you really need it, the desk guy will let you use the microwave after breadfast times. He was just wonderful and never made me feel bad when I needed help or extra service. There is an ice machine and pop machines available too. I saw that somebody earlier mentioned "thin towels." I thought they were fine. Sheets were clean ...outside stairwells were very clean...front desk area looked nice. I did hear some street noise, but, c'mon, you're in Chicago. It wasn't bad at all. Anybody who'd give this place less than a 4 or 5 rating should prolly just go to an upscale place and pay for it next time. If you want a clean, safe place to sleep or work, with nice service,free breakfast, and free parking...this is the place to stay on the north side of town. My advice to optimize your stay here: 1. Call a week or more before your stay and make sure your reservation has been recieved from the site you booked it. 2. The room was basic which is what I expected, but there was no clock radio or plug for the bathtub which meant getting dressed to go to the front desk to ask for a plug. We were there on a Friday night and the patrons came and went up until about 3am. They were noisy and it woke us up several times.

The hotel staff was beyond rude. I definately felt like a burden both times I spoke with them. The room was on a busy corner with lots of late night traffic noise. I was a little scared at night because the motel room doors open to the outside. I asked if I could pay extra to park a second car. The man at the desk told me to come back and ask again later. When I went back he told me no way. After my friend and I had to drive her car far away to find a space and take a taxi back we noticed that the motel had allowed several other people to double park. Like I said, at least it was cheap.

This was a fun little motel. An island of kitsch in a very bustling metropolis. A place to park your car, a few blocks walk to the CTA EL trains and a diverse ethnic neighborhood. You have to come in from the west on Ridge to get in the parking lot. $25 to park.

Price I paid was way too expensive. The Quality of the room should have been better. But it was clean and it was convinient for where I was going.

This hotel is exactly what you see in the pictures. It isn't going to give you any of the "extras", but if you want a comfortable stay with the basics for a GREAT price in Chicago then I would say to go for it.

It was a pleasant suprise to find this clean, old-fashioned motel a short walk from the lake and Loyola University. We enjoyed checking out the neighborhood. Free parking is a huge plus and breakfast included! Front desk guy was all efficient but I had to coax a smile out of him.

This hotel was conveniently located. Close enough to drive downtown shopping and night life. Easy drive on Lake Shore Drive. Best of all, free parking!!!!!! Price is pretty cheap for Chicago. Rooms are clean. Could do with TV upgrades

We have stayed here 3 times now. It is a very clean but no "frills" place. Our children live just 5 min. from the hotel and they are the reason we come to Chicago. The management is always nice and helpful. It has never given us that "not safe" feeling. The parking is also very good. This visit we traveled with my elderly parents and mistakenly failed to ask for a lower level room. They only had upper available so they braved the stairs one night and we begged for anything on the lower level the next day. The only thing available was a smoking room, so we checked it out and it seemed really clean and not smoke smelling. so we took it. We got all moved and the room got hotter and hotter, we supposed the a/c was out and after a wait they decided it was. The general manager Scott, was very kind and put us up in two really nice rooms instead of 4 of us sharing one, because we had moved so many times. We were very grateful!! We will always stay here when we come to see our kids, who now have our first grandchild on the way. The breakfast is nice with a variety of cereals, fruits and donuts, coffee and juice. If you are looking for hairdryers and coffeepots, microfridges and fancy soap this is not your place. But it is perfect if you just want to be close to your area destinatin and need a place to rest your head. We will absoloutely stay here again and again!

This is an old fashioned motel, has not been updated in years but has been maintained. Very clean, free breakfast and parking. Good value if you are just looking for a place to lay your head and not expecting much.

We stayed for a Cubs, Cardinals game. The room was great for the money, but we had to take a taxi everywhere.

Stayed two nights for a trip to the Cubs. Half the price of any of the other places I looked. Great value I would stay again. Clean and comfortable. Easy walk to the bus and free parking at the motel. LOVE the 60's sign and the pink(ish) bathroom fixtures. We rode the bus to the game and walked the 3 miles back to the motel. I ran in the area both mornings, lots of nice side streets to run on.

needs a overhaul 1965 was a long time ago

This was a great location for visiting my daughter. It was hot outside but the air conditioner worked great. The free Wi-Fi worked great. I loved the neon Art-Deco sign. I would definitely stay at this motel again.

When we first pulled into the lot, we thought that we might be in trouble - but looks can be deceiving...It was a great motel, clean, clean, clean! It was great to be so close to the bus line and the fact that we did not have to pay for parking was awesome! For the price, we will stay here again the next time we are in Chicago - for sure!

I had tickets for a ballgame at Wrigley Field and wanted a economical place to stay. It is older and very basic, but it is clean, has free parking and free wi fi internet access. A short bus ride ($2.25) takes you right to Wrigleyville. The "L" is also fairly close if you want to go downtown. If you need something fancy, or want alot to do within walking distance you probably wont like this place. If you want a clean place to sleep at a reasonable price, jump on it.

Really cool neon sign...but too close to busy street and no control of "white noise" via fan or AC. Very convenient location, though.

The staff had a nasty attitude

There were seven people in our party and at the last minute booked rooms at the Heart O Chicago!..It was very clean, quiet, the staff was awesome and polite and we had a great time..would I take my children there..probably not..but it was a safe, clean place to go back to and passout at the end of the day. Heart O Chicago will be my first place to book when we return to Chicago for games!

The heat was on and it must have been 108 degrees in the room, called the front desk and the reply was the heat is on, turn it off, no air conditioning. I turned the heat off and it kept oozing, it was so damn hot I could not sleep, I had to open windows and the sound of traffic was loud, it's too hot and too noisy to sleep. Never again, don't stay here unless you have too.

The price was right. The staff was friendly. I got to park for free. The continental breakfast was free. Those are all good things. Now for the bad. The guestroom was warm to hot and could not be cooled by any means other than opening of the door and windows. I cannot recommend this motel for that one reason.

Was greeted pleasantly, no problems with the reservation, older hotel with a very basic room, clean and comfortable with crisp sheets and soft towels, free parking, a little over a mile from Loyola University's North Shore campus

As all other posters have said it's was fine for one night - nothing special just clean and comfortable.

We stayed 3 nights. The man running the front desk when we checked in was helpful and very knowledgeable about using public transportation to find our way around Chicago. The room was very retro...straight out of the late 70's/ early 80's. I'm not sure if this was intentional, or it's just had the exact same look for that long. Regardless, the room was clean and comfortable for the most part. If I were forced to criticize any aspect of our stay, I would say that the bed/sheets/towels could have been a little softer.

If you want a clean, comfortable, reasonably quiet room at the best rate and within the city limits of Chicago, this is an excellent pick. I've stayed at this hotel twice, and the experience has been very positive. The exterior looks like a step back to 1960, but the rooms are very clean and comfortable. Best of all, you're within the city limits of Chicago with FREE PARKING and good access to CTA buses and trains, so there's no need to drive in from the 'burbs or pay high rates to stay in the Loop or Magnificent Mile. I strongly recommend ordering a CTA visitors pass for trips that involve this hotel. A pass gives you access to the entire city for a low price, and it's easy to navigate using the maps and schedules provided by the CTA or using directions from Google Maps for transit (also works with Google Maps Mobile). Additional notes: *no cable TV, but digital TV provides lots of choices *the continental breakfast is decent, though the choices are limited

Not quite the Heart of Chicago, but a good value cheap option for staying in Chicago. Great access to Andersonville and Wrigley Field. Cheap and cheerful. Surprisingly quiet.

The room was very clean and it was located within walking distance of many restaurants. Would stay there again.

The a/c blower on the ceiling was louder than normal; and the floor just beneath vibrating like that caused by another blower on first floor. This was in Rm 218, 2nd floor. If the design is uniform throughout the building then this hotel is not recommended to those who can't tolerate humming noise. A 'Do not disturb' sign should be made available.

The Heart 'O Chicago is a great discount hotel: clean, safe and the staff is friendly. It's within a short distance of transit and other amenities and it has a great 1950's vintage look, including the best neon sign in town.

this hotel was very clean, smelled good the bed was so comfortable i was amazed at this loved the pillows easy to get a taxi from this location and also ordering food really late at night was not a problem for the money it was great. we will stay there again for future events

For the money this is a nice place. It don't have a lot of aminities but is very clean and comfortable. Guy at front desk was helpful and nice. Down side is the noise form sirens and the shower pressure was very weak. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel. and also the parking is free.

Easy to reach wrigley field, lincoln park. Only a few blocks from the Red Line, so downtown is moderately accessible as well.

The hotel was very conveniently priced and a great location in Chicago. It was also very clean and the person on duty was very friendly.

This is a good place to book into if you plan on exploring the city. Despite it's age the property is very well maintained and clean. Do not expect the latest decor or the best of linen or more than the basic cable package. It is close to a handful of major bus lines. If driving to the property be aware that you cannot turn left into the parking lot off of Ridge.
