"Nice home away from home"
Heart 'of Chicago had our reservation ready upon arrival, and kept the room clean and comfortable thoughout our 6-day stay. Conveniently located by public transportation so getting where we needed to go was made quite easy. While the motel can not be classified as "luxury", we found the clean and comfortable facilities met our needs satisfactorily. […] The staff made us feel welcome from the start to the close of our visit. We WILL stay here on our next visit to the City. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"No the place to stay"
The owner does not care about the customers. My recent stay 6/10/2013 there was no heat in the room and I was told that the hotel switch other the system to air-condition only therefore no heat in the room. The continental breakfast was only donuts and coffee...WOW. Do not spend your money hereGenuine Expedia guest review

"Very Nice Place to Stay, Phone didnt work"
Rooms get nicer each time I stay there. They continue to remodel. TVs are old models, not flat screens, and channels are a mix of over the air and something else - no cable or satellite. Rates have gone up. Phone did not work - could not use the #5 button. Parking is FREE - love that. First visit is a challenge to get to hotel due to lane dividers, […] etc. Best is to go one block north then turn south and turn left onto Ridge. Going to my favorite bar north of hotel on Clark is a challenge as you cant turn left onto Clark from Ridge. Once you have it figured out its no big deal. I always stay here when i want to party at my two bars a few blocks north. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"location is convenient"
checked in late attendant wasn't cheerful, checked in with my mother he could of smiled a little bit to make us fill comfortable. we were to sleep had two rooms booked. all of us mentioned the rooms were clean, comfortable and supplied with the needs we needed.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
very basic motel with a price to match - our room was noisy but that was because we had a room about 10 feet from a very busy road - would really like a coffee maker in the room - we left an important item in the room by mistake and the manager called us that afternoon we left - that was a very courteous gesture - we figured it was goneGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great for the money"
Room was very clean. Staff was extremely friendly. There was some noise from traffic because our windows faced the street. I rented this room simply as a place to sleep for one night. For this purpose I would stay here again. If I were going to stay for a week I would probably splurge on something with a few more amenities.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Budget hotel but great location."
This is not a high end hotel. The facilities are limited and outdated. But as long as you realize that it is a great hotel for staying in Chicago. Great location, clean rooms, adequate parking, etc, etc... As long as you calibrate your expectations appropriately this hotel is great.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"In-between location to complete tasks successfully"
My stay was better than I expected. I would return again. Thank you.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"No frills but nice."
Nice midrange hotel. Somewhat noisy due to the new fire station in area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel was clean, convenient, and had free parking and for under the cost of other places farther from our family. The breakfast was minimal, but ok for us. We will plan to consider this hotel in the future.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Still a Great Chicago Option"
Heart O' Chicago is certainly nothing fancy, but is excels in being clean and comfortable. The staff is always friendly. Amenities are few--bring your own shampoo. This time I stayed in room 206, which doesn't face the somewhat busy street or the sometimes noisy parking lot. I had a restful, comfotable night.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Excellent place for fun in Chicago"
If you are looking for a clean, comfortable place to stay while in Chicago for fun, and don't want to pay for all of the frills and extras of a high end hotel, this is a great place. Nicely located, fairly priced. Sights and Sounds of city life abundant, but that is part of the Chicago experience. Close to downtown without being right in the heart of […] Chicago, which can be nice in itself. Very nice place for the price. I will definitely stay there again. "Don't expect much."
I thought it would be a local, cute motel but it's minimal, dreary, no Wi-Fi and very little hot water. For $39/night, it would be acceptable but for $99/night, I expected more.Genuine Expedia guest review
Clean room, nothing fancy but good price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I specifically asked for NON SMOKING room and was guaranteed one, when we checked in it was NOT a non smoking room, ashtrays and smell and everything that goes with it! I am 3 weeks into quitting smoking and did not want to stay in a smoking room..Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"ok for the price"
The motel is very basic but has free wi-fi and a free breakfast of coffee, cereal, muffins, douts and apples. Nothing at all approaching classy, but a decent place for the money if you need to be in that area of Chicago.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great value for a city stay!"
The room was really clean and comfortable. You could hear a lot of noise - externally and internally, but it is tolerable if you're only staying a night or two. The cost of the room was a lot less than hotels that are located closer to the sights but it was in a decent neighborhood near a ton of delicious restaurants.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not a Great Stay"
I choose Heart of Chicago as close to things I wanted to see. NO coffee maker, NO micrwave, NO fridge. Limited TV channels. Right on busy interesection, our room above sidewalk to this intersection, so noisy. Young people LOUD parties every night at 4:00 AM when bars closed..lost sleep. If familiar with Chicago, go elsewhere..rate was $277. for 2 […] nights!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I enjoyed my stay very much. Positives were the location, helpfulness of staff, cleanliness and comfort of the room. (While a small touch, the ease of finding enough electrical outlets for my various gadgets was nice!) Negative points were the quality of the continental breakfast (not bad, just not great), street noise and difficulty getting into the […] parking lot (only accessible westbound on Peterson). These were not significant issues, especially when compared to the hotel's nearness to all the locations in Uptown, Lincoln Square, Ravenswood and Albany Park that I was planning to be. Very clean and basic accommodations. For the price, convenient location, free parking, and free continental breakfast. My only complaint is it is very noisy with traffic/street noise, people in the hallway noise, and noise from rooms next door. Walls are not sound proof. Coughing next door in the bathroom sounded like in my own bathroom. We were in […] a room at the end and there was some chronic humming motor noise that went off and on. Hence, did no sleep well the one night. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"very convenient location, great price"
The room was very comfortable, very clean. No amenities other than cable, but fine for a place to sleep. Free parking a huge plus. Downtown hotel parking costs almost as much as a room. I didn't bother with free breakfast--never even checked it out. I was in town to visit my son who lives nearby so location was perfect for me. Other reviews mentioned […] too much heat or cold--I found the room very comfortable and the heat level adjustable. Fans in bathroom and for heat ARE very noisy but I shut the heat off at night and was fine. Very quiet when I was staying there. Staff was fine. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

very clean older hotel. they have to switch the heat/cool system over to one or the other. And you can not adjust the temp either way. Heat just blasts and you can not set it to 70. it was miserable. "Old...but very clean and inexpensive!"
This motel is super clean and everyone that we dealt with was very nice and helpful. The hotel itself is very old....but for the price and only using it for a place to sleep instead of driving all the way home after a long day and night.....it was perfect! Thank you Heart O' Chicago. "A place to rest"
Great place for visiting Chicago area on a budget. Breakfast was doughnuts, coffee, cereal, fruits. Rooms were adequate to get a good nights rest. By far the service was the highlight; friendly and accommodating staff. No iron but attendant was nice enough to suggest some places to get my suit ironed. "good price.. and nice place"
This place is older but clean, and well kept. It is a bit of a hike to some of the conveniences that you need, i.e. stores but there are good restaurants close, and in chicago terms the trains aren't far. The neighborhood is descent and generally a busy area. My only complaint is that the AC/Heat was LOUD, think it just needed maintenance. Very clean for price and in nice location. Great affordable stay to see shows at the Riviera.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The front desk guy was a jerk at times, but besides that the room was very nice. Right by the 22 bus that runs all night and also not too far from Thorndale and Bryn Mawr station. About a 10-15 min walk.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The Basics in A Great Location"
We stayed Friday through Sunday and the parking lot filled both nights. Freshly painted, well lit parking lot, breakfast: small cups of coffee, orange juice with ice in jug watered it down a bit, oatmeal, donuts, Otis Spunkmeyer muffins, etc. Weird TV channels with limited national news. WiFi was excellent. They accommodated our requests for a downstairs […] room. The following things are not available, which may not be a biggie: HD TV, shampoo, iron, ironing board. "What's a Swedish museum doing in this neighborhood"
Although the hotel had been recently repainted, the facility itself needs attention. My room needed a good vacuuming. The carpet was really dirty. The furnace was on full blast, raising the temperature of the room to 85 degrees. I had to turn the furnace off and open the windows to get the temperature into a livable range. There were no latches on the […] windows, but there is a large steel grate over it. Presumably, this grate is attached to something. The nearest restaurants are fast food burger joints. The neighborhood is not the best. And they charged me a security fee on top of all this. I'd rather stay somewhere else. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Despite the motel being a clean establishment, the location was noisy and there have been no real updates to the facility for decades. It was difficult to sleep due to the traffic and how loud the heat was when it turned on.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Quaint and exactly what I needed"
This is not the Marriott, but it is very nice. My room was quiet, clean, and quaint. Very retro, but very nice. Only downside was the "continental breakfast." Just a few rolls and cereals.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Convenient and affordable- and surprisingly nice!"
My daughter and I were on a college tour and wanted to see the Neo-Futurists on North Ashland as well. The Heart o' Chicago was convenient to Loyola University and to the Neo-Futurists as well. We were concerned that it might be noisy or run-down, but took a chance based on the location and reviews that I read. We were very pleased to find that the […] room was very clean and well-kept, and even the 1960's bathroom fixtures were spotless -- a touch of the Mad Men feel here. The walls of the main room had been paneled at some point, but the panelling had been painted and then sponged for a nice modern effect. The noise level was low despite being at the intersection of two main thorough fares. There was free wi-fi and free parking in an enclosed lot. The continental breakfast buffet was basic (donuts and cereal) but adequate. I would definitely recommend the Heart o' Chicago to anyone looking for good basic accommodation on the north side. One warning: soap is provided but not shampoo, so bring your own. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great bang for your buck!"
This is one of the cleanest hotel/motel rooms I've ever stayed in. The staff, although not very friendly, were accommodating. The room itself was pretty ugly, due to some bad updates in the 90's, but the original charm was still found in the bathroom, straight out of 1959. The beds were comfortable, & if street noise doesn't bother you, then this motel […] is the bargain you are looking for! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Manage expectations- it's a motel"
Location close to bus and El (.6 mile), but at least 1 hour + to O'Hare. Downtown Loop is 30 min. Room was clean, but had slight previous smoker smell. Bathroom had banana yellow tub, toilet, sink. Neighborhood good. It was pretty good for a motel, and the service friendly and helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"It is what it is"
This is a motel, and is limited as such. I consider it clean, convenient (for my purposes, which is to visit Loyola U.), and perfectly adequate for a few nights stay. The front desk has always been friendly and helpful, and I've never encountered a malfunction in any room. The motel is located on an odd corner, so I usually go around a block to position […] my turn into its parking lot. While the traffic at Ridge and Peterson is constant, the noise does not intrude. It's just a motel, but a decent, well-run one in a part of the city that doesn't offer a touristy smorgasboard of choices. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
As far as a quick weekend trip to Chicago goes, all I could really ask for is a clean room, good location, and a decent price, and that is exactly what Heart O' Chicago gives you. "Back to the 1960's"
While I did not expect the level or quality of a Hyatt, Hilton, or even a Holiday Inn, this place is like stepping back in time. The TV only offers local over the air channels. "Pretty good for the price"
Heart o' Chicago is obviously not a luxury hotel. It is a Motel. But it is decent for the price. The rooms were clean and there were enough good choices for breakfast; healthy and non-healthy, sweet and non-sweet. That was appreciated, since we were without transportation of our own. The wireless service worked whenever I needed it, and the signal was […] always strong. The maid service was good. The desk service depended on who was there. We were lucky when we checked in: I had my elderly mother with me, and the desk clerk carried both of our bags to our upstairs room, even though there was another client waiting for service. The bed was adequate, nothing special. The one complaint that I had - and we found this odd: There was no towel rack in the bathroom! Nothing to hang the towels on at all. We made do with the closet... And very little space to store toiletries - OK for one, but not two people. If you're OK with the very basics, you will get a clean room and a decent breakfast at a reasonable price. Caveat: the weather was perfect while we were there, so we did not get a chance to test the a/c. I notice that other reviewers were having issues.... Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
