Texas Inn and Suites - McAllen

First of all, this place is not close to downtown, unless you have your own car. I went for a conference in downtown, and when I was making the reservation I called the hotel and asked them how easy it was to get to downtown and they said "Oh, it's no problem, it's close by." Wrong! I had to take the bus (taxi would have cost around $30), and it was […] so complicated. The front desk had no idea about anything except for the rooms. The receptionist told me the bus picked up people in front of the gas station next door but didn't know the times or the appropriate number to take. Well, I got there at 7:30 in the morning, and after about half an hour felt that something wasn't right, so I asked at the gas station. That was where the bus picked people up to go to Mexico! So they told me where the real bus stop, and I waited around until 9:15 before it came. A local on the bus then told me it came every 2 hours. The hotel receptionist didn't even know how much bus fare cost. Aren't these the kind of things hotel staff are supposed to know because they're useful for guests? Other than the hotel staff not having ANY local information (I had another problem with them calling a taxi for my return to the airport), the room itself was nice and clean. Read more

As I arrived rooms were not ready had to argue to get at least 1 of the 2 rooms I had reserved. For d other one they wanted me to wait 7 hours then they said 3 hours. I called hotels.com because I made reservations with them, but I had to get a two queen bed room when I only wanted 1 king size bed. I booked 5 rooms so that my siblings and I would all have a place to stay when we surprised our mom for her 75th birthday. I was able to change the reservations so that two of the rooms were in my brothers' names, and I was able to cancel the remaining two rooms since my other siblings were unable to make it. My brother's were arriving a couple hours […] before me...so I emailed each of them their reservation...when they went to check in, they were told that my credit card was declined and that they would have to pay for the rooms themselves. VERY EMBARASSASSING for me, and completely inaccurate. The rooms charges went through on my Discover Card on 8/2/2011. I felt the hotel was trying to charge them for rooms that were already paid for...and I was never able to meet with the manager to ensure this issue was taken care of. The first room I was put in had windows that didn't lock so anyone could break in. The second room I was reassigned to had beds that were made of concrete and pillows the same. At least it was a handicapped room so the bathroom was huge.

Overall my stay was ok. I had a room with a king sized bed and a couch. The coffee maker didn't have any coffee packets and the refrigerator didn't really keep anything cold. I don't feel that the money I paid is worth the hotel. I have stayed at other hotels in the valley that are nicer and I paid much less. Reception area personnel very courteous. I had to ask for a remote control, which the front office brought to me immediately. There was a permeating stench of smoke in the room. The gentleman suggested I turn on the ceiling fan. There also was a noisy neighbor.

We have stayed at this hotel 4 times, mostly because it is inexpensive when visiting my husband. This time was the WORST. We had to change rooms because the ceiling fan didnt work. Once we changed rooms, the bedspreads in our new room were ripped. Also the television remote was missing. i had to make 4 trips down to the front desk t o get a new one […] that worked. This motel was about as expected. Convenient to McAllen, Mission, and Pharr. The room was a decent size and very clean and the pool was small but nice. On the negative side, the pillows were tiny and the bed wasn't very comfortable. They provided an extra pillow when I asked. The breakfast was kind of lame- no fruit or toaster w/ bread. The hotel was a bit difficult to get to which was mildly inconvenient. My room faced a wall which provided privacy but thats about it. The hotel filled up while I went out for dinner and I could not find parking when I returned. Otherwise the room was clean but the A/C was off when I checked in and the room was about 90 degrees!

This was a nice hotel, but I can be better. The room was average, but they only have one trash can in the whole room. The TV was fine with lots of channels, but I wanted to watch a DVD and the room did not have a DVD Player.
