Went with my husband for 5 days. Perfect location, 10 minute walk from Forbidden City and the subway. Tony was very helpful booking a private car to the Great Wall. I stayed here for a few days by myself and I speak no Mandarin. When I arrived I was very surprised they had bumped my room up to a suite. The large room was great. The staff was wonderful and spoke excellent English. The bellhops were very helpful. They carried my luggage for me and also helped me get a taxi to wherever I needed to go. The location […] is the best in the city for sight-seeing. It is walking distance to the Forbidden City, shopping, and the famous night market. I did not eat in the restaurant but there are tons of food options around the hotel and even a Subway across the street for the homesick American to have lunch. I always felt safe walking the local neighborhood during the day and at night. I had a great time and I’m glad I chose this hotel for my stay in Beijing! Read more

It was a modern hotel, I enojoyed my stay. However there were a couple things that didn't make me to excited about the place. The sheets were clean but the pillow cases were not clean enough. I could smell the last person's head on it! Yuck. It was more of a 3.5 then a 5 on cleanliness but the space was nice.

Some of the style features were not practical -- e.g. glass walls that make it hard to detect the bathroom door at night, but it was very clean and staff were pleasant and helpful. Location is superb, feet from the Forbidden City. A bit of a hike to the subway, but terrific street food one block away in the evening.

This hotel was in a convenient location within walking distance to the Forbidden City. I booked the Fashion Room, but upon arrival was upgraded to the better room since they were sold out of the fashion room. The room was modern and clean.

Very happy with the accommodations and service. Read the other reviews and then note: I noticed discolored grout in the shower edges too, but the shower floor tile and and glass was spotless - didn't really bother me. Had a second floor room, but did not notice any bird noises from the shops across the street. Generous variety of breakfast buffet choices for both western and asian tastes. Awesome location two blocks from the Forbidden city east wall (have to walk much further to the front gate, though) and three or four from the Wanfujing Shopping area. I found the hotel staff courteous and very helpful. We wanted to attend a performance at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing. Getting tickets in advance on the web has proven problematic. When we told the hotel staff of our intention, one offered to call the Opera House for us and reserved 2 tictets for the same night. Then she helped […] us to navigate the subway and bus system to get to the NCFPA. Taxis are not allowed to stop there. We had an early flight back--6:30 am and they got us a taxi at 3:30 am. Not all staff members have good commend of English but they made up for it by going the extra mile. The rooms are design driven and on the surface, very thoughtful. Houwever, somethings do not work as well as they might have, e.g. the rimless, doorless shower tends to overflow a bit if you turn on the water for more than say 2 minutes. The robes they provided sheds quite a bit. The umbrella they provided was hard to open. That said, the room is pleasant and clean. The location is unbeatable for its price. The breakfast is more eastern and may not be liked by westerners plus it is a bit overpriced. Read more

Hotel Kapok is a bit off the tourist path, even though it is a block from the Forbidden City. This made a quieter, more personal experience. The room was lovely and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. A good location. It was close to the main shopping area, only 20 minute walk to the Forbidden Palace, and Tian'Anmen Square. There were excellent restaurants within a short walking distance. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Although I did think it was a bit pricy.

I would recommend this hotel to my friends based on price, location and superb staff. If you're in Beijing for a few days, this would be a good place to stay. Beware that the bathrooms were a bit moldy, room smelled musty and the overall finishings of the room seemed cheap.

The staff, especially Joe, were phenomenal. They attended to our every need and always provided different options we could choose from, rather than trying to "sell" us. Traveling Asia with my wife & 3 young kids. The hotel was 2 blocks from the main tourist street with the malls, restaurants, and street vendors. The Forbidden City is 2 blocks. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Arrange in advance for them to schedule a car (or in our case a van) to pick you up and drop off at the airport. Restaurant breakfast […] was okay. Not a big selection. Only downside for us was there was no suite to fit all 5 and there are no adjoining rooms. So my wife had to sleep in one room and I in the 2nd. This hotel has perhaps the best location possible if you want to tour the Forbidden City, Tiananmen square or the National Museum of China, as we did. It is just a 7 to 10 minute walk to the main Wumen Gate of the Forbidden City. We could also walk easily to the night market and the huge Wanfujing shopping district. There is a bank within 50 feet where […] we exchanged currency--very convenient. The area had quite a few little breakfast/lunch places run by local families, which is the way we like to eat. But if your taste runs to Western food, the hotel has a very good restaurant with both a Chinese and American menu. (We just liked the prices on the street much better for meals.) Hotel Kapok is called a "boutique hotel" but I found it to be a simple, quiet, clean and restful place to stay, (though the beds are on the firm side). The staff is excellent and courteous, the rates were very reasonable, and the room had all the amenities one might expect. We were also just a short cab ride to the popular and now trendy "Hutong" district, an old city residential area that has been remodeled to long streets of shops, eateries and boutiques. After a nice 4 night stay they had our bags down and a cab waiting within minutes of our request to check out. Excellent location, excellent service and a quiet place to rest. What more can you want? Very helpful and friendly front desk service and bell boys. The see-through bathroom has a dark curtain as an option to cover it up, which is especially nice for non-couples. The courtyard room is sizable, although the non-smoking courtyard rooms do Not have direct access to the yards. We had a wonderful time in Beijing and the hotel helped to make it relaxing. We used a tour guide from the hotel and she was knowledgable and friendly. We did bargain for a better price, this is China after all. Taxis are good and reliable get your own and use the meter to go out to the airport. If you are used to getting a fixed price it can work against […] you as the meters are good. We grabbed a taxi from in from of the hotel and with the 10 yuan for the toll road it was about 100 to the airport. The room was wonderful; spacious and well maintained. They changed the locks on the doors while were they so we had to switch our room key, but they told us in advance that they would be doing so, in writing, and the change over was smooth and not a bother at all. Breakfast was good, they were a bit slow on filling up the dishes on the buffet and they did close at 10 as advertised, that said the egg station and the wonton station as well as the variety on offer for breakfast made it a good way for us to start the day. We paid an extra 46RMB for our sons breakfast each day. Read more

What we saw of the Kapok seemed very, very nice. there are men to help with luggage the instant you pull up. I was assured of western toilets, which was very imp to me.
