The staff vvas very friendly and spoke excellent English. The room was very warm and looked just like a cave. The location is beautiful but I would recommend parking at the touristy area and walking in with your bags unless you are really good at driving backwards. This is a wonderful hotel in a dream-like setting. Our first room did not have a view, but on request we were quickly moved to a room (20A) that opened onto the most amazing view I have ever seen. Unusual hotel with a cavelike atmosphere. Expect a dark room. Rooms seem to vary in size. Very helpful friendly staff. Best breakfast In Italy that I've had. It's in the heart of the Sassi. Parking is extra (10 euros).

Really great hotel close to good restaurants and easy to get to everything Matera has to offer. One drawback was that the pool was not as warm as advertised (and since it's such a unique feature of the hotel, it was a disappointment), but the breakfast was great and the hotel staff was very helpful.

This was a wonderful place to visit in the heart of Matera's Sassi district. The cavelike rooms were unusual with great views. Rooms were spotlessly clean with an enormous bathroom. We spent a month in Italy and this was the best breakfast we had. Everybody was friendly and helpful. A good inexpensive restaurant is down the block, Nadi. The waiter Nicola […] was just great and we ate there three nights of our stay. The hotel arranged our parking at 10 euros a night which was fine because parking is impossible. Matera is one of the friendliest places we visited in Italy and we plan hopefully to go visit again. Expect to walk a lot and climb lots of steps but it's worth it. Read more

How often does one get the opportunity to stay in a cave that has all the comforts? Our room was quiet, clean, spacious and had everything we needed for a very, comfortable stay. The breakfast was very good and the location perfect for exploring the wonderful Sassi and local restaurants. We didn't use the pool or spa, so can't comment on those, but […] we wondered if they were worth 10 euros. This is an interesting hotel in a fascinating location. The room was rather dark but then this is to be expected if you stay in a cave! There could have been some more place to put things...like some drawers and a shelf in the bathroom would have made it easier.

Lovely hotel, would definitely stay here again if in Matera. There's a bit of a walk from the public car parking spaces to the hotel. The hotel will sort parking out for you for a €15 charge. Breakfast not pleasing,needs much more variety & freshness. Reception staff very helpful re on-going travel plans & arranged cars etc plus good guides to see the area. We had paid premium rates & got given a small twin room - apparently you pay for the view, not the size which is not clear on the web site. Matera is a magical place and we found the Locanda di San Martino better than anticipated. It was lovelier than the photos showed it to be and the spa was especially enchanting. This hotel is in an amazing spot. Balconies overlook the Sassi giving great photo opps in the twilight. Very peaceful and quiet! Only thing i would suggest is entrance to the pool be included in the price. This hotel was the experience I was looking for, sleeping in the Sassi!

l'albergo è buono , ma deve migliorare su due servizi : la colazione e la tv . la colazione dovrebbe prevedere dolci locali invece di anonime crostate e anche più' frutta fresca . la tv è un modello vecchio con difficoltà ad operare su sky . non sono presenti i canali calcio di sky .

La nostra stanza, scavata nella roccia, candida e silenziosa era davvero stupenda, ma in generale è la struttura dell'hotel (albergo diffuso) che colpisce... terrazzini e scale tra le varie camere (ma c'è anche un comodo ascensore) danno l'impressione di trovarsi in un micro-paese nel paese. Bella anche la spa, soprattutto la piscina con idromassaggio. […] Molto meno comodo il parcheggio (bisogna lasciare l'auto in un garage a pagamento), ma del resto la vista dei sassi da dentro ripaga. Abbiamo trascorso un week-end nel mese di febbraio 2012. L'hotel è all'interno dei sassi e permette di girare Matera completamente a piedi. Infatti abbiamo lasciato la macchina il venerdì (in un parcheggio pubblico gratuito segnalatoci dalla reception) per riprenderla la domenica.
