I just loved staying here. The staff was very nice and helpful, and the hotel looks great. It is very nice to get your own pretty little bungalow. It is 1k off the main road that leads to town, but I didn't find this to be an issue. It was actually very nice and quiet, and green in comparison to the hotels near the La Fortuna. The staff will call you […] a taxi to pick you up if you don't have a car, and you just take a taxi back from the main area in town where the taxis line up. It was 3,000 colones, or about $6, for the taxi ride. We did this to spend the afternoon in the town and have dinner there. I would highly recommend doing this since the restaurant at the hotel is overpriced. It's worth paying for the $12 on a taxi to go to dinner and shop. If you decide to eat at the restaurant, the food was good. The free breakfast in the morning is very good as well. Overall it is a great place. I would stay there again if I go back to Arenal. Lomas del Volcan is a fantastic place to stay in the Arenal area. The property is very well maintained, has friendly and helpful staff and is close to hot springs and to volcano area hikes. The view of the Arenal volcano from our room and from the restaurant were spectacular. The only minor drawback for this property is the distance off of the main road. This is also an advantage, because it means that you will hear absolutely zero vehicle noise. It does mean that any quick trip into town will require a cab ride, which costs about 2000 colones (roughly $4 USD). If you walk it, expect a 30 minute walk into town and about 45 minutes back up the hill, depending on your walking pace. Read more

Wonderful stay in the low-season. Bungalow rooms were spotless, staff was excellent, and the you are literally in the shadow of the volcano. The hotel is 1km up a rough road, so getting into town is a hurdle.

This is as close as your going to get to the volcano. The rooms are lodges and your back yard view is the volcano it has a small round table with 4 chairs to enjoy the view. The guys at the reception desk Robert and Jonathan are great. They will recommend places to eat original Costa Rica food and activities to do in town. This is a lovely quiet hotel with a goreous view of the Arenal volcano. We wanted to stay in a hotel with hot springs, but all of them were booked. We ended up here and I'm so glad we did because a day trip to Tabacon Springs showed us how crowded the other hotel were. Lomas Del Volcan was just right. Lomas Del Volcan is a great spot when visiting Volcan Arenal. It is just a few minutes outside of La Fortuna in one direction and about 10 minutes to Tabacon Hot Springs in the other direction. The gate to the hotel is large, so it's difficult to miss. The cobblestone road ends after about 200 meters and you then travel about 800 meters on a very rough […] gravel road before meeting the cobblestone again on your way up the resort. The grounds were immaculate and the cabins were really cozy. The only complaint was that our toilet didn't flush very well in our room and the walls are quite thin. Outside of those two little things, it was a great cabin. It had a huge shower and two queen beds. The porch on the back of the cabin that looks up at the volcano is really nice as well. They even had a flat screen TV with international channels so that we could kill some time when it was pouring rain. The only thing I didn't appreciate is that we originally booked 2 cabins and decided to have the 4 of us stay in one when we found out they have two queen beds in each. We checked-in with 4 people and on the final day, after we had checked out and finished breakfast, they pulled me back to the front desk and told me there was a mistake and charged me an extra $110! I understand the situation, but it was something that probably should have been forgiven being that it was them who overlooked that we had 4 people with us to check into 1 cabin... Anyway, it turned out to be a very expensive breakfast... Other than the last little snafu, it was a great place. Read more

Lomas is a great hotel. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They will bend over backwards to help you out. The rooms are quaint and surrounded by beautiful greenery. The hotel is also quite close to the pueblo, so it's fun to go into town and eat at the local sodas. This hotel is nestled in front of the beautiful Arenal Volcano. The room was beautiful and very romantic. The front desk was awesome because check in time was 2:00 pm and we arrived 12:00 pm and they allowed us to settle in our room with no additional charge. The gentleman was Great!! Very helpful with questions on tours and anything they offered in […] the town. The one service we did not like and was horrible was the wait staff in the restaurant. No one there seemed happy to be there and the food was not that great. Yes you are given free breakfast, but the staff was not very friendly and unhappy. They do not live by Costa Rica's saying "PURA VIDA". We ate there for dinner and the plates were not cheap and when we asked to have yuca instead of veggies with our dinner the waiter let me know that he would need to discuss it with the chef... Honestly we paid between $15-$17 a plate for fish and chicken and that should have been a YES since Yuca is grown and they have it in their kitchen... They did not come and check on us from time to time and the food was not the great. That is the only thing that did not sit well with us at Las Lomas del Volcan. We stayed at the Hotel El Silencio Del Campo in La Fortuna and they had "Excellent Service" all the way around to the housekeeping. I wish we had never left them.. Read more

The rooms are actually cabins and they are good. We had cabins close to the pool, spa and reception. Service was terrible. Only when I gave the staff a tip they actually started to do their job. Like bees to honey... The food in the breakfast buffet was re-heated for the whole week. We only got fresh food one morning. The re-heated sausage slices were […] dry and looked like beef jerky. The re-heated pancakes were hard and taste-less. The fruit in the buffet had flies all over it. I do not know how people actually ate some of it. It appears that the hotel caters mainly to tourists that only stay one night in the hotel. There were numerous tour buses with American, German and Norwegian tourists that stopped over for one night. The European guests had no manners. One of them took the made to order omelet my wife had ordered. Another almost walked away with the bread she had in the toasting machine. I really do not know why people here give this place such high reviews. It is also in the middle of nowhere and about 20 minutes from a small town. This place was a gem! It was easy to find, staff was very friendly and amenable to our needs. Small road leading to cabins is unpaved. Our beds were comfy, shower is huge, and there was a small fridge, coffee pot with Cafe Brit coffee, and a nice flat screen TV with cable. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the accommodations were very comfortable and well-kept. I am glad we […] had a car though, as the hotel itself is on a slight hill, maybe almost a mile from the main street. The road to get from the main street to the hotel is unpaved and quite bumpy. So if you do have a car, be ready for a rocky road. We found after traveling through other areas of the country though, that this particular road was typical though of the bad roads all over. Be ready for a driving experience!! I would go back to Lomas del Volcan in a heartbeat though. Having your own bungalow that is quiet, spacious and in such a stunning setting, is something worth doing more than once. Read more

I really enjoyed staying at this hotel and we were given a good room on the edge of the complex facing the volcano. The room was nice as it was not overlooked and very private. The rooms are in cabins and raised from the floor which ensures that the majority of the wildlife travels underneath rather than through the room! Breakfast was OK, but not brilliant […] and the restaurant was very average shutting early. We couldn't even get a drink in the bar after 10. The hotel is up a long unmade track which is not practical to walk down at night, and is quite a distance to the town. My partner and I stayed at Lomas del Volcan for 2 nights end of Jan 2011. The view from the property is amazing. Each property has 2 beds and a big bathroom. Everything was clean. The only downside was different bugs that get into room at night time. Would have been great if they had bug nets around the bed. Buffet breakfast was included, good standard […] buffet breakfast. I would not recommend staying here for buffet dinner as its $25, if you do go to Baldi Hot Springs one night just get dinner included. They have a huge buffet for $7. Hotel is about 1 km off the main road, taxi to Baldi Hot Springs or to town is about $6 -8 USD. Read more
