"Awsome trip!"
Had a wonderful time at the feather bed, friendly staff great concept, amazing breakfast in the morning, beautiful view of the lake. Highly recommended for a romantic getaway. Tips: The boat house bar and grill a block away has tri-tip sliders to die for. Show them your featherbed key for 10% off bill. Cell phones get WiFi in caboose but not labtops, bring a hdmi cord and mini sd to hdmi adapter= you can stream Netflix or hulu in your caboose. Enjoy

"Unique place to stay..."
I have a feeling that the customer service would have been excellent had the innkeeper been in town. As it stands, his staff was not quite as available or conscientious as he would've been. Still, overall, very interesting place to stay. Would recommend staying in the spring summer or fall.

"Overpriced"
The concept is clever. However, for $200 a night the price is outrageous. The office is closed before 3 pm so no way of leaving luggage or checking in early. The room was adequate, but really out of date. The sink in the bathroom barely drained. There was no Wifi and even though there was a tv in the room, there is no reception. Breakfast was a sickening sweet slice of French toast? and a sausage. We left hungry. The should not charge over $100 a night. Really disappointing and a waste of money.

"Here's looking at you Kid....,"
Loved the quietness. Room heater was a little noisy in the "Casa Blanca"; however I did notice others with heaters below the units. Good idea. As a retired railroader that built bridges, I loved the experience. Looking forward to another stay.

"RR"
From the reviews and photos, it seemed like this converted RR car B&B was unique and well kept. However, it was run down. Although close to the lake, there were no activities. There are no good restaurants nearby. Breakfast was very good and the owner was friendly, but not very helpful when we used the grill and when we asked about things to do. This is a good place to relax and do absolutely nothing.

"What a fun idea!"
We had a great time. The owner/proprietor was super nice. The scenery is great, being right on the lake. The train cars evoke a sense of history and are more than just another room in a hotel or B&B. We had to leave pretty early in the morning to catch a flight, and the owner got up up early to make us breakfast before we left!

Our hosts, Tony and Patty were very accommodating to make our stay both comfortable and enjoyable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and loved walking along the lake, which is right across the street. The setting is beautiful, peaceful and relaxing.

"Great Get away!"
We had a little get away weekend, just my husband and I. We loved the Train Setting. Everything about that place is about trains! The grounds were so pretty and lush and kept up nice. Our train car was clean and cozy. I wish we had a few more days to spend there to be able to use the pool, and fire pit at night, relax in the hammack or take a ride on their tandem bikes! There was a lot offered to do. The breakfast was SUPER great and served so beautifully. The owners were friendly and accomodating. We would definetly like to go back and highly recommend this place to others.

"Your room is a caboose"
A great place to stay, right on the lake. Lots of bird life in te grounds and on the lake. We had a great view of otters from the pier. Breakfast is individually cooked for you - no choice but bothe breakfasts were very tasty. The rooms are all old cabooses, very comfortable and nicely decorated. There is a bar/ restaurant 5 mins walk away. Wi if is good as well. We loved it.

"Unique and Friendly"
07/29/15 Scrable1 Pasadena, California
Looking for something out of the ordinary for a California road trip, I found this B&B at the north end of Clear Lake in Lake County. There are only 9 rooms and they are each uniquely appointed cabooses in a setting of green grass and mature trees on a quiet road lakeside. The owners, Tony and Peggy are super warm, friendly, eager to help and responsive to every question and need. They welcomed us and our dog warmly. Each of our two mornings, we got to eat their fantastic better-than-home-made breakfast. My husband fished off the guests-only dock and caught bass and bluegills on almost every drop of his line (we didn't keep any). My only complaint, and this is minor, is that the only caboose in which they allow dogs is one kitted out for the Harley Davidson enthusiast. The room has mirrored walls and ceiling and some kind of handlebar things over the bed which gave it an air of debauchery that we might have appreciated more 20 years ago. I think they would do really well to add another dog-friendly room for the less robustly romantic senior visitors. Also, there is only a giant jacuzzi and no shower except for the shower head in the tub. The tub was fun, but we had just come from camping and really craved a shower. Be sure to remember if you stay here, that if you want your room touched up with clean towels or new coffee, you need to ask. They have a policy of not entering a room unless asked to, but will happily hook you up with whatever you need upon asking. All in all we had a great time here and would stay again. It gave us a welcome jumping off point for exploring the small towns around the lake. There is a nice pool, which I kept meaning to swim in, but never got around to it.

"Unique Railroad Themed B&B"
07/03/15 Sam-n-Alice Tampa, Florida
Staying in an original caboose that has been outfitted as a B&B room is probably the most memorable places we have stayed. The caboose was even outfitted with a large Jacuzzi tub and plenty of hot water. The breakfast was hearty and delicious - the Hobo Breakfast lasted us the entire day! The lake right across the road is a beautiful place to put a B&B.

"Feel like a Rail Barron..."

What a unique surprise this well manicured "rail yard" is. Nine well appointed Cabooses to choose from and at a reasonable B&B price. Tony and Peggy run a friendly railroad here. The breakfast was a good way to start you morning. Within walking distance of an acceptable lakeside restaurant where you can have a nice lunch or dinner on their outside water front deck. Head west from Nice for a beautiful 1 1/2 hour drive to Anderson Valley for some spectacular Pinots.

"Awesome Place"

Can't say enough good things about Featherbed Railroad B&B. The place is absolutely charming. Nine little cabooses ringed around a beautiful little park. Hugh trees and plantings. The lake is just across the street, and it's beautiful. They have a private dock for watercraft. The cabooses are so cool. We stayed in he Wild West themed one. So cool. Breakfast was very good. It's served in the station house, which is very comfortable. The station also has a great porch with outstanding lake views. Very inviting place to read, or play cards. The cars have all the comforts of home. Railroad buffs prepare for nirvana......

"A Very Unique B&B"
04/07/15 swcerc Colorado Springs, Colorado
What a fun and different place to stay. The rooms are all old cabooses, each decorated in a different theme. They are situated in a lovely wooded area across from Clear Lake in Nice,CA. We stayed in Tropical Treat and it was quite large and comfortable. Breakfast was served in the main dining room and it was delicious. They have a pier on Clear Lake and we enjoyed sitting out there and seeing the sunset. We would definitely go back again if we are in the area.

"Romantic getaway at the La loose caboose "

Had an amazing time staying in the La loose caboose in nice, friendly staff beautiful grounds right on clear lake. Super cool concept awsome hosts great breakfast the next day. We will definitely be back! Tips- the boat house bar and grill is about 300 ft from the bnb and has awsome tri-tip sliders and one of the biggest and best chicken fried steak I've ever had. Show them you featherbed keys and it's 10% off your bill. WiFi on phone works inside caboose but not on labtops so if you bring a mini sd to hdmi adapter you can stream hulu or Netflix. Enjoy!

"What a fun place to stay"
03/25/15 gaburkett Dublin, California
When we drove up to the property, we were pleasantly surprised. Looks just like the pictures and the property was well maintained. Pool was closed and under construction, but everything else was great. It was located right across the road from Clearlake and the property had its own dock and pier. The only downside to the room was that there was not a comfortable place to sit and read, but we did sit up in the Caboose atrium for a little bit. We ended up walking up to the office/lounge and enjoyed a peaceful time reading in front of a gas fireplace on a comfortable couch. Since it was February, we were the only guests one night so we had the whole place to ourselves and could spread out. There are over 200 videos/DVD's to choose from if you wanted to watch a movie in your Caboose. The breakfast was custom made and certainly a 5 star quality. Even included a VERY tasty Bloody Mary. The Caboose was larger than some motel rooms I have stayed in and very comfortable. Had a mini fridge and a western bar so we brought our own snacks and wine and enjoyed eating in the room as well. We stayed two nights. During the day, the owner suggested several wineries to visit and we spent the day exploring the area. We brought our bikes and ended up riding them around the Clearlake State Park. Breakfast was included both mornings, and we ate at the Barndoor one night for dinner and the BlueMoon the other night (I think those were the names of the restaurants). Both were excellent. All in all, a fun surprise birthday for my husband. He had no idea where we were going, and even the drive up from the bay area was enjoyable.

"Anniversary stay in the Easy Rider room."
03/18/15 Richard M Orangevale, California
My wife and I have stayed many times at the Featherbed RR. We have always found staff to be pleasant and helpful. The food has always been incredible as it was this time. On rare occasion I have wandered out to get breakfast elsewhere (slept in past breakfast) and there is no better breakfast to be found in town or the surrounding area. On the rate occasions something was not quite right I've found Tony to be very prudent in taking care of any issue we've had. The privacy of having a complete caboose as a room with spacing between the other cabooses is priceless. No sharing the bathrooms with other guests, No listening to people yelling at each other while having a romantic time with your spouse. And a park like setting. . . When you give thought to the quality of the food, the privacy of the rooms, and the setting, the value of the stay increases significantly. I don't suggest bringing the kids, this is a perfect getaway place for couples. . .

My husband and I returned to the FBRR on our 20th anniversary. It has changed in the past 20 years! The have a greater selection of cars! We stayed in the Orient, and enjoyed it immensely. Very relaxing! We had a great dinner in Upper Lake and a delicious breakfast the following morning. The hosts were very nice and friendly. We will definitely be back for some wine tasting!

"something very different and quaint..."
02/17/15 Julz W Clearlake, California, United States
this is definitely a place for romance. on a local tour, we decided to stay here, him and I, with a bottle of champagne and lovely fruits and cheese. we had a fridge and a microwave, jacuzzi, the grounds were pretty, and we had a view of the lake. that's not the best part. the railroad cars are sooo cool! everyone is themed, and they are just fascinating. the fact that we had our very own "space", no one walking past our door, no one bowling above us, was peaceful and comforting. yes, there was some "outdated" features, but it was easy to look past. the owners, who were friendly as heck, held a "social", where we drank complimentary wine and met other folks, then we disappeared to our bungalow for the night. the breakfast was delicious. we loved the stay! it was a tad pricey, but I have stayed in FAR less satisfying places for more money!!! I say YES to another stay, on another day...
