"Great Get away!"
We had a little get away weekend, just my husband and I. We loved the Train Setting. Everything about that place is about trains! The grounds were so pretty and lush and kept up nice. Our train car was clean and cozy. I wish we had a few more days to spend there to be able to use the pool, and fire pit at night, relax in the hammack or take a ride on […] their tandem bikes! There was a lot offered to do. The breakfast was SUPER great and served so beautifully. The owners were friendly and accomodating. We would definetly like to go back and highly recommend this place to others. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Featherbed Railroad Company"
The Featherbed Railroad Company is a great bed & breakfast. Great food and company in a beautiful setting. Everything was in good order and the room was very comfortable, and very private. We will come here again, for sure.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
My husband and I had never stayed at a bed & breakfast before so we decided to stay at the Featherbed Railroad to celebrate our wedding anniversary over Labor Day Weekend. There were other bed & breakfasts to choose from in the area but we were really drawn to the fact that we would get to stay in our own caboose! The caboose was amazing!! All of the […] cabooses had different themes. The caboose we had was the Harley Davidson themed room. Even though we are not into Harleys we loved it! The 2 person Jacuzzi bathtub was so nice and the bed was super comfortable. The innkeepers were Super nice and the property itself was very pretty and just felt romantic. We loved their pier too! We can't wait to go back!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Choose the cosiest caboose in the West!"
We revisited Featherbed for a magical winter weekend before Christmas to get some last minute wedding planning done in peace. We enjoyed two spectacular breakfasts (local red walnut and pear French toast prepared by Tony and then Peggy's legendary quiche) and made use of the comfy couch in the "station" to research some ideas for our nuptials via the good wifi. After our first taste of caboose life in "Casablanca" a year ago, we were excited to check out another theme. "Orient Express" did not disappoint! We loved perching up in the cupola for a view of Clear Lake and even had sun to sit out in front for an afternoon beer. The in-carriage jacuzzi is awesome and we are already planning our return - maybe to celebrate our first anniversary?! We note that there have been a couple of negative comments relating to up-keep and hope they do not put visitors off. Tony and Peggy are extremely helpful and kind and were very happy to address any need we had. They were over-run by tidying up their property from local storm damage which did not at all detract from the quality of our experience.

Must agree with the last review very dirty inside and out ie. windows with bird poo, dead bugs on window sills especially on upper level. Lots of dust and cob webs. Outside of train cars need washing lots of bird poo and it is not recent. Bar counter sticky. Musty smell. Needs to shut down and clean the place.
"Great idea, but dirty dirty dirty, and overpriced!!"

Loved the idea of staying in a caboose. It was a themed birthday for my husband. For 250 a night I expected WAY more. The room was in order but very dirty. The rugs by the bed had leaves on them, there was hair in the jacuzzi drain, and I'm not talking just a little, it was a lot, how gross! There were cobwebs in the windows! Come on now.... So ok, well, we decided to take our champagne and go to the pier to watch the sunset, like the book in the room says. OMG there was so much bird poop everywhere there was no place to sit and watch the sunset. It stunk so bad, disgusting. If you are going to advertise that in your book then CLEAN IT UP! So fast forward to the morning. Breakfast was good, I liked it, so did my hubby. But as stated in the book was the bike to ride. We wanted to do that after breakfast. But upon seeing the bike out front we decided against it. It was covered in cob webs! Tons of them! Again, if you are going to advertise that in your book then CLEAN IT UP! The porch to our caboose was covered in leaves as well, and not one days worth either. Blow them off before guests arrive and clean off the cob webs! Need I say more?

We looked so forward to staying here, but accommodations were tired and dirty. Hand towels/washcloths weren't fresh and dusty. Rail car was neat but extremely dusty. It was liked cool old rail cars parked in a trailer park. Pool was nice but couldn't get a pool towel. Asked owner/manager who was in the pool, he left to get them and returned without them and climbed back in pool. Met a couple who had stayed in our car 13 years ago and they said they had problems with smoke detector going off because of all the dust in the car. Breakfast, the owners favorite was basically a frittata with cream of mushroom soup poured on it. Not sure about whether I liked it. Usually, I am left wanting seconds. Not so. We travel b&b all the way. On this trip it was the most expensive. Not worth it. Won't be going back. Kinda trashing for price.
"Needs some TLC"

Generally we enjoyed our stay. We had the Orient Express and it could have used a little maintenance. The plants on the deck were non-existent, just planters with dirt, nothing growing. The faucets on the Spa flopped around in the mounting holes so one had to play a little to get the water going and set. Otherwise the Spa worked fine. As others have stated the cabooses could use some more lighting! But, hey, it was definitely unique and we look for unique places to stay. The breakfast was meh, but we're meat and eggs people. Glad we saw it but have no wish to return. As an aside my wife managed to lose the room key when we were out. We asked for a key at the desk and were informed that they didn't have a spare key! What kind of place of lodging doesn't have a spare key?

My husband and I have spent our past three anniversaries at this quaint place. Tony and Peggy go out of their way to make sure guests are comfortable. There is also access to the lake for guests and we did a little fishing off their pier-- we did not catch anything but a great stay. Thumbs up for this little place!

Have stayed here at least twice a year since seeing ad in Sunset Mag. four years ago. Always spend New Years there. Station Managers Tony and Peggy have become good friends. Wonderful, unique experience sleeping in a caboose. Big whirlpool tubs, soft beds and each unit has its own unique theme and decor.

My husband and I stayed here during a week long drive down to San Francisco. It's a lovely b&b - and my first experience with one to boot. We could not have picked a better place. The location, the grounds, the attention to detail the caboose that we stayed at (Tropicaboose!) was all perfect. Everyone was so nice that we met, and the breakfast was delicious. I made the comment that I was a vegetarian and they accomodated my every need. I could not say enough nice things about the Featherbed Railroad. Make sure you print the instructions from the website or email because the gps can't be relied on. I'd love to come back, we had a wonderful time.

We stayed in the "Wild, Wild West" caboose, and had a great time. Good, strong AC, small TV mounted near the ceiling, kitschy and charming Old West decor, complete with antique furniture, and even a spittoon in the bathroom! The Wild, Wild West caboose also has a "crow's nest" compartment. Cute. We slept well on the full size bed (you couldn't fit a larger one in this particular car, I think), and everything was great. The only complaint was the terrible, thick invasion of midges. They were everywhere, and made walking around the grounds and lake pretty challenging. But that's not the Featherbed's fault, of course! Highly recommended for couples and families.

The best trip we have ever had. Comfortable, friendly, excellent food, privacy - who could ask for more? This isn't for everyone - the rooms are not your standard hotel fare, and they don't enter your room at all unless you request service at breakfast in the morning (they made that clear at check-in, and we never asked because we didn't need it). But we loved it so much we changed our plans for the trip home and extended for another night. Never even turned on the TV, just explored the local area, hung out and enjoyed the large lawn and huge trees, walked down the private dock and watched birds on and around the lake ... VERY relaxed. We'd had a stressful year, and the four days at Featherbed sent us home smiling and happy, our attitudes refreshed and our spirits lifted. One thing we really enjoyed was the night we dragged our folding chairs out of our van and had a wine-and-cheese picnic on the lawn, watching birds and squirrels as the sun set. Can highly recommend the Blue Wing Cafe in Upper Lake for lunch. One warning: this is an area of small towns, and pretty much every food place closes relatively early. If it's 9 o'clock your choices narrow to a couple fast food chains. Plan to make lunch your main meal, or to eat before 8 pm. Check out the links on the Featherbed website for restaurant suggestions. Next time we've promised ourselves to hire a car-and-driver and tour the wineries without worrying about who has to drive!!
