"Nice views in Mlini"
Good hotel that needs attention to details, beautiful view, good buffet, however the rooms had carpet worn out and dirty and the pool staff could be better trained in customer satisfaction. You had to ask twice to get answers.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Beach, pool & close enough to Dubrovnik +3star"
Lovely little resort and hotel was more than fine for a 3 star. Recommend the associated pizza restaurant & fine restaurant for evenings plus the beach restaurant for lunch. Great pool area and pleasant enough (pebbled) beach. Water taxis and hotel shuttle to Dubrovnik and nearby Cavtat - both are must see in my opinion.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Lovely setting for all the family and the new sea front swimming pool & childrens' pool looks brilliant. (the builders were just doing their tidying up on 6th July 2013) Opening soon.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good location, and not bad for the price."
Arriving at the hotel, we were horrified at the condition of the beach, as tractors had been trailing up and down it to reach the building site which was for a new outdoor pool and bungalows. A member of staff apologised and explained that bad weather had delayed the building work. However, we found a very pretty beach 5 minutes walk along to the next […] village. Every day, we had to walk through a building site to reach the village. The only other negative that we found, was the unbelievably bad breakfast dishes. I have never seen or tasted anything like it, so gave up after day one and stuck to toast, cheese and yogurt. On top of this, the assistants strolled up and down with a trolley, scraping the left overs into a bucket right under our noses ! On a positive note, the hotel was clean and peaceful. Mlini village was quite pleasant with a few old buildings, a stream and a beautiful old tree. We tried 3 of the restaurants, which were all good, but the Lanterna was our favourite. The shuttle minibus was easy to book, pleasant and convenient. The bedroom was fine, but it could have been a travelodge on the M1 if you didn't look out of the window. The beds were very comfortable, with cool cotton sheets, and the bathroom was well designed although tiny. We were not allowed food or drink in our room which I thought was a bit strict ! In the evenings, we enjoyed dancing in the Piano Bar where a musician sang and played guitar to a backing track. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good location and cleanliness"
The hotel is situated midway between Dubrovnik Airport and Dubrovnik Old Town. Expect to pay approx 180kuna (about £19) for a taxi from the airport to the hotel. The hotel itself is spotless (even though it was undergoing some building work during our stay). Reception staff were helpful and attentive. Our room was in the annex, which is not as bad as […] it sounds - lovely sea view, newly fitted bathroom and a comfortable enough bed. Only negatives might be the reception area lacking much atmosphere, and the food. We were bed and breakfast, but on our night of arrival opted to pay for the evening buffet service at a cost of approx £15 a head and the food was bland and tasteless and definately not worth the money! Breakfast on the other hand was adequate and set us up for the day. The hotel beach is a little sparse, and again, lacks atmosphere. There are only three alternative restaurants close by to the hotel. The indoor pool was nice. An outdoor pool is under construction. The hotel is definately popular with an older clientele, with the average age at least 60! Special mention should go to Joseph who arranges transportation too and from the hotel. He is friendly and helpful. Buses too and from Dubrovnik and nearby Cavtat are relatively easy to negotiate, but the long slope to the bus stop could be tricky for some. Overall, a good stay and excellent base for exploring this part of the country. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Brilliant for some relaxation!"
This hotel is definitely targeted towards an older crowd, however the services available and provided are great for all. I read a number of reviews quoting the staff as rude or not very forthcoming. I think this is a misinterpretation and an injustice towards them. They were always helpful and tried to assist wherever possible. I do think their level […] of English language sometimes made them feel uncomfortable, but they could converse more than adequately. The swimming pool, gym, sauna and other amenities may cost extra (£3 per amenity), but it appeared this only applied in the evening (albeit the attendants were rarely there to accept the payment!). There is a shuttle bus that runs a return trip to Dubrovnik (7 miles away) for £5 pp or alternatively, there is a bus stop 200 yards from the hotel entrance on the main road which has regular buses (number 10) to Dubrovnik for £1.50 (the last bus back from Dubrovnik is at 0130 hours). The hotel itself is very quiet and idyllic for people looking for a relaxing break away from the hustle and bustle of the cities. There is an acoustic guitar player most nights in the bar from 9pm and drinks are relatively cheap. Breakfast was brilliant and there are a number of restaurants nearby to have a good choice of evening meals. All in all, it is a superb place and I would definitely recommend it to family and friends, but not if you're wanting an adrenaline packed holiday. The sunsets from the hotel are spectacular! Smelly shower curtain, tired decor. Rude overstretched piano bar staff. Staying for just one night so did not have the energy or time to complain at the time. "beautiful location for a hotel."
The hotel was of easy reach from the airport, only a 15min drive. Staff were polite and helpful, providing a brilliant service and went out of their way to arrange excursions for us. Breakfast was satisfactory, it was the same thing everyday, a bit of variety would of been nice especially for vegetarians. cleanliness of the hotel was exceptional and […] the daily cleaning of the room was good. This location was good for those who want a quiet break, not for party goers. The view from the hotel was beautiful, from the sunrise in the morning to the sunset in the evening and watching the moonlight glisten over the sea was so surreal. "Well located hotel"
The views from and around the hotel are stunning. The hotel itself is fairly basic, having adequate amenities. We went during the London 2012 Olympics so we were often hanging out in the bar area hoping to catch some action on the TV screen. On the whole this was a much underused area of the hotel even in the evening. Food was our one disappointing […] factor. We had breakfast included and this was not great but ok if you are not fussed about the quality of what you eat. Be aware use of the gym is at an extra cost if that is one of the attractions of this hotel for you as it was for us. We decided not to use it in the end as it was charged by the hour. We did have free use of the swimming pool but as the sea is literally on the doorstep of this hotel you will probably not make use of it like us. The hotel had car hire facility on site and a number of tour operators if you wanted to see the sites and was happy to let someone take care of that. We ended up hiring a car to see more of the area. This cost about 450 Kuna's which is about £50. It's worth doing when travelling further afield otherwise use public transport, which is pretty cheap. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"OK Standard, Good facilities"
We enjoyed staying at Hotel Astraea, mostly because of the closeness to Dubrovnik (10 minutes with local bus), the new, fresh pool area, the calm surroundings and the cheap price. Mlini did not offer to many restaurants or pubs, but you can easily get to Dubrovnik. from the hotel. Unfortunately the breakfast wasn't the best, neither was the dinner. AC i rummet fungerar inge vidare. "Not my First Choice"

We just returned from 10 days in Mlini and stayed at several hotels in the area: Astarea, Guest House Fontana, Daniela and the New York. Out of these 4, we were the least impressed with the Astarea. The views from the rooms at each of the smaller hotels was absolutely stunning! They were spotless and had kitchens and lovely stone terraces for sitting outside under grapevines. Quaint and full of local character, which was a much more enriching experience than the sterile and modern Astarea. The owners of the smaller hotels will bend over backwards to make your stay pleasant. Many of the staff at the Astarea are hardened from dealing with crowds and it shows. We discussed this with owners at the smaller hotels and they told us it wasn't the first time they have heard complaints about the Astarea.

We travelled on a package holiday with Newmarket Holidays from Inverness, Scotland. And arrived on a nice sunny day. Hotel very clean and spotless in reception area. Our rooms were not available until 2pm so we all were able to sit out on large terrace near the bar. The hotel is in a lovely position overlooking the sea and the lift takes you down to -3 where you are able to go outside to pools and Oleander cafe bar etc. there is a walkway by the sea and surrounded by trees to small bars and it takes you to the small harbour where the boats leave for Dubrovnik and Cavtat (a beautiful place). A walk of about 20 mins takes you to Srebeno where there is a supermarket. Our room was very nice with great walk in shower always with plentiful hot water. Nice view to sea and small islands. Food good with plenty of choice. Very busy with all nationalities. Staff very good and Ana very friendly and helpful. Also Vinky . Shuttle buses to Dubrovnik and Cavtat great and always on time. Antonio the driver very mannerly and chatty. Was once a water polo player for Croatia. He deserves a new mini bus! Music every evening with guitar player. Very good. Weather very good for October so all in all a very enjoyable holiday with nice Scottish company.

Very friendly and newly refurbished hotel; with Saga, we enjoyed the separate lounge for all inclusive drinks. The food was too good and great choice every meal. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were good with a side sea view and kept extremely clean. Enjoyed the sea water heated indoor pool and had a fantastic massage...50 mins for approx. £18, which is exceptional value. Perfect location with superb scenery of beach, Cyprus trees and hills; great for beautiful Dubrovnik, as there is a hotel shuttle bus for a small charge, and water taxis at the Mlini harbour (which is a regular service and harbour is only 5 mins from the hotel) It's not a hotel for 'entertainment' but this is not what we wanted as we wanted to relax and meet fellow Saga travellers and we had a brilliant time!

This hotel is situated at a gorgious place. And the famous city of Dubrovnik is a short drive away. And so is the alplike landscape of the state Montenegro. There is a nice outdoor basseng on the seaside, but why not take a few steps down to the beach and the Adriater ocean. The rooms are small, and we ditd not love the french beds whith one overcover, fighting in the night with my wife. But I think yuo can order sigle beds, we forgot to do that. It is a big hotel and in the morning between seven and eight, the breakfast room was really crowded. Though, helpful staff always managed to organise a table for us.

Very pleasant hotel. Good choice of food hot and cold at dinner. Buffet style. Our room had sea view and alternative view over countryside. Good sized balcony. We went with Saga and there is a free Saga lounge with free alcoholic and other drinks including coffee and hot chocolate. Lovely pool and close to beach and beachfront walk. Rooms are medium sized with immaculate bathrooms. Staff helpful and friendly and speak good English. Plenty of electrical points in bedrooms with free wifi available in the rooms and throughout the hotel. Would definitely recommend.

Recently stayed a week at the Hotel Astarea with the half-board option. The rooms were sufficient and the view from my balcony looked out over a lovely garden with sea views in the distance. However with a little more effort this hotel could be so much better. The daily cleaning of the rooms left much to be desired, they definitely need to raise their standards for the cleaning crew. Many of the staff were unpleasantly rude and we were even told by the man at the travel/excursion desk he was too busy to help us, even though he was sitting by himself with no other guests near. The food was mediocre to disappointing and became pretty tedious night after night. Don't count on even a glass of tap water as part of your evening meal - it's all for an extra fee. The area around the hotel is quite beautiful and I'd like to come back again, however when I do it will not be at the Hotel Astarea.

From the moment we booked via Saga's Booking line, we knew from past experience of Saga, that we were on to a winner. The Booking agent was brilliant, guiding us through the whole process easily and politely. We were met at Dubrovnik Airport by one of the two Saga Hotel's permanent reps. Lovely girl. Then on arrival at the hotel, we were met by the senior Saga rep at the hotel, who immediately politely and efficiently sorted out our room problem and got us a much larger room immediately. All the staff at the hotel were at all times very polite, despite at times having their patience tested fully by one or two guests of other nationalities. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. The food very good and plenty of it. Cannot recommend Saga and this hotel more highly.
"No entertainment except singer/guitarist for 10 nights, nowhere to go in evening."
10/07/14 arambler Rotherham
We stayed at the Astarea for 10 nights and for all that time there was no other entertainment than a man singer with a guitar singing the same songs every night, the only break was Saturday night when there was no "entertainment" at all. He was OK for the first time but then we realised that there was nothing else. The only local bar was quiet so not really worth going to so nothing to do after evening meal. Having read various review over the last 12 months it looks like that is all the entertainment you will get at the Astarea. For such a big luxurious hotel with lots of rooms there should have been an "Entertainment Programme" which is listed in the Hotel details. Shuttle service was handy as you can't stay all the time in Mlini, it is a pretty bay and a lovely walk around this but 3 times doing this is enough. Cavtat is much better, much more to do. Dubrovnik obviously is also just a short drive away by Shuttle bus. Elaphite Islands is a fantastic trip out 10.30 till 6.30 with fish lunch and free drinks 250 kuna each. Beware of the Lokrum excursion we paid 80 kuna but when we got to the Island we had to pay a further 45 kuna each entry to the Island, this should have been told to us when we booked. Food was good, except fish had lots of bones. Not for young guests as most people there are pensioners, lounge looked a bit like an Old Peoples Home in the evening sometimes.

We had booked B&B in a superior room with balcony and sea view. We were delighted to find, upon arrival, that we had been upgraded (don't know why!) to a villa and half-board. We were impressed with the villa, which had a large balcony with sea view, large double bed in a large bedroom, a sofa that was made up as another double bed in the lounge, which had a huge television. Another television was in the main bedroom. The kitchenette was well-stocked with crockery and glasses, a microwave, hob and sink. There were plenty of electric sockets (this has proved a problem in other hotels where a dearth of sockets has had us having to take turns to charge our various devices). There was lots of storage space and plenty of room to hang our clothes in the wardrobes. We found all the staff (except for a rather surly, lugubrious man on reception, who nonetheless was helpful, and a bossy waitress in the dining room) to be friendly, helpful and smiling. We found the choice of food was good, varied and of good quality. We even had the choice of porridge for breakfast, which is not often available abroad. The safe in the room didn't work, but there is a large safe cabinet behind reception where we were given a key to our own safe at no extra cost. There is a shuttlebus service to Dubrovnik and one to Cavtat at a cost of 50 Kuna return per person at the time of writing. There is a hairdressers, gift shop, indoor pool and gym on the lower floor and the outdoor pool is beautiful with lots of sunloungers and views of the sea which is just a few yards away. The sea is clear as a bell and ideal for snorkelling where fish come very close to the shore. We noticed that the whole area was very clean with no litter. There are tall cypress trees in the grounds and some guests had found that their sea view was restricted. From the point of view of walking in the grounds, they enhanced the setting along with other shrubbery and made a nice frame for photographs! We went at the end of the season so some restaurants/bars were closed and there were a lot of older people there as the hotel caters for Saga customers and, of course, it was term-time so not many younger people although there were a couple of young families. There is a children's playground a couple of hundred yards along a wooded path away from the hotel. All-in-all a delightful holiday in a lovely setting.

Hotel is located in good position with lovely grounds. Nice walks along the coast. Hotel is clean and spacious, food is good. Rooms are not large but have good storage. Disappointingly the outdoor pool was empty due to the storm the previous week, and the beach bar was also closed for the first few days for the same reason. The hotel has a very large indoor pool. Local bus to Dubrovnik and Cavtat available on the main road above the hotel, or there is a hotel bus (slightly dearer but avoids the climb up the hill), or the boat from Mlini harbour. Only criticism is that particular staff on reception and at the piano bar would benefit from a customer service course.
