Good hotel that needs attention to details, beautiful view, good buffet, however the rooms had carpet worn out and dirty and the pool staff could be better trained in customer satisfaction. You had to ask twice to get answers.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Beach, pool & close enough to Dubrovnik +3star"
Lovely little resort and hotel was more than fine for a 3 star. Recommend the associated pizza restaurant & fine restaurant for evenings plus the beach restaurant for lunch. Great pool area and pleasant enough (pebbled) beach. Water taxis and hotel shuttle to Dubrovnik and nearby Cavtat - both are must see in my opinion.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Lovely setting for all the family and the new sea front swimming pool & childrens' pool looks brilliant. (the builders were just doing their tidying up on 6th July 2013) Opening soon.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good location, and not bad for the price."
Arriving at the hotel, we were horrified at the condition of the beach, as tractors had been trailing up and down it to reach the building site which was for a new outdoor pool and bungalows. A member of staff apologised and explained that bad weather had delayed the building work. However, we found a very pretty beach 5 minutes walk along to the next […] village. Every day, we had to walk through a building site to reach the village. The only other negative that we found, was the unbelievably bad breakfast dishes. I have never seen or tasted anything like it, so gave up after day one and stuck to toast, cheese and yogurt. On top of this, the assistants strolled up and down with a trolley, scraping the left overs into a bucket right under our noses ! On a positive note, the hotel was clean and peaceful. Mlini village was quite pleasant with a few old buildings, a stream and a beautiful old tree. We tried 3 of the restaurants, which were all good, but the Lanterna was our favourite. The shuttle minibus was easy to book, pleasant and convenient. The bedroom was fine, but it could have been a travelodge on the M1 if you didn't look out of the window. The beds were very comfortable, with cool cotton sheets, and the bathroom was well designed although tiny. We were not allowed food or drink in our room which I thought was a bit strict ! In the evenings, we enjoyed dancing in the Piano Bar where a musician sang and played guitar to a backing track. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good location and cleanliness"
The hotel is situated midway between Dubrovnik Airport and Dubrovnik Old Town. Expect to pay approx 180kuna (about £19) for a taxi from the airport to the hotel. The hotel itself is spotless (even though it was undergoing some building work during our stay). Reception staff were helpful and attentive. Our room was in the annex, which is not as bad as […] it sounds - lovely sea view, newly fitted bathroom and a comfortable enough bed. Only negatives might be the reception area lacking much atmosphere, and the food. We were bed and breakfast, but on our night of arrival opted to pay for the evening buffet service at a cost of approx £15 a head and the food was bland and tasteless and definately not worth the money! Breakfast on the other hand was adequate and set us up for the day. The hotel beach is a little sparse, and again, lacks atmosphere. There are only three alternative restaurants close by to the hotel. The indoor pool was nice. An outdoor pool is under construction. The hotel is definately popular with an older clientele, with the average age at least 60! Special mention should go to Joseph who arranges transportation too and from the hotel. He is friendly and helpful. Buses too and from Dubrovnik and nearby Cavtat are relatively easy to negotiate, but the long slope to the bus stop could be tricky for some. Overall, a good stay and excellent base for exploring this part of the country. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Brilliant for some relaxation!"
This hotel is definitely targeted towards an older crowd, however the services available and provided are great for all. I read a number of reviews quoting the staff as rude or not very forthcoming. I think this is a misinterpretation and an injustice towards them. They were always helpful and tried to assist wherever possible. I do think their level […] of English language sometimes made them feel uncomfortable, but they could converse more than adequately. The swimming pool, gym, sauna and other amenities may cost extra (£3 per amenity), but it appeared this only applied in the evening (albeit the attendants were rarely there to accept the payment!). There is a shuttle bus that runs a return trip to Dubrovnik (7 miles away) for £5 pp or alternatively, there is a bus stop 200 yards from the hotel entrance on the main road which has regular buses (number 10) to Dubrovnik for £1.50 (the last bus back from Dubrovnik is at 0130 hours). The hotel itself is very quiet and idyllic for people looking for a relaxing break away from the hustle and bustle of the cities. There is an acoustic guitar player most nights in the bar from 9pm and drinks are relatively cheap. Breakfast was brilliant and there are a number of restaurants nearby to have a good choice of evening meals. All in all, it is a superb place and I would definitely recommend it to family and friends, but not if you're wanting an adrenaline packed holiday. The sunsets from the hotel are spectacular! Smelly shower curtain, tired decor. Rude overstretched piano bar staff. Staying for just one night so did not have the energy or time to complain at the time. "beautiful location for a hotel."
The hotel was of easy reach from the airport, only a 15min drive. Staff were polite and helpful, providing a brilliant service and went out of their way to arrange excursions for us. Breakfast was satisfactory, it was the same thing everyday, a bit of variety would of been nice especially for vegetarians. cleanliness of the hotel was exceptional and […] the daily cleaning of the room was good. This location was good for those who want a quiet break, not for party goers. The view from the hotel was beautiful, from the sunrise in the morning to the sunset in the evening and watching the moonlight glisten over the sea was so surreal. "Well located hotel"
The views from and around the hotel are stunning. The hotel itself is fairly basic, having adequate amenities. We went during the London 2012 Olympics so we were often hanging out in the bar area hoping to catch some action on the TV screen. On the whole this was a much underused area of the hotel even in the evening. Food was our one disappointing […] factor. We had breakfast included and this was not great but ok if you are not fussed about the quality of what you eat. Be aware use of the gym is at an extra cost if that is one of the attractions of this hotel for you as it was for us. We decided not to use it in the end as it was charged by the hour. We did have free use of the swimming pool but as the sea is literally on the doorstep of this hotel you will probably not make use of it like us. The hotel had car hire facility on site and a number of tour operators if you wanted to see the sites and was happy to let someone take care of that. We ended up hiring a car to see more of the area. This cost about 450 Kuna's which is about £50. It's worth doing when travelling further afield otherwise use public transport, which is pretty cheap. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Hotell i ein roleg og idyllisk landsby"
"OK Standard, Good facilities"
We enjoyed staying at Hotel Astraea, mostly because of the closeness to Dubrovnik (10 minutes with local bus), the new, fresh pool area, the calm surroundings and the cheap price. Mlini did not offer to many restaurants or pubs, but you can easily get to Dubrovnik. from the hotel. Unfortunately the breakfast wasn't the best, neither was the dinner. AC i rummet fungerar inge vidare.
"A stormy time in Croatia"
09/20/14 Fii59 Kilmacolm, United Kingdom
We stayed in a one bedroom villa in the grounds of the hotel. It was very well appointed with a good sized bedroom and large lounge /dining area. The balcony was large and we had s nice view over the bay. There were only two of us but there was a sofa bed in the lounge area. There was plenty of wardrobe space, one in bedroom and two smaller ones in hallway. One suggestion is that they need to put more hangers in the hall wardrobes. That was the only thing missing as we only ate breakfast and the odd lunch in the villa. The kitchen area is basic with two rings, sink, fridge and microwave. The hotel was mainly populated by the older generation. We rarely entered the hotel but the reception were helpful and friendly. The pool area was clean and there was plenty of space for us. Need to purchase bathing shoes if you prefer the sea as the beach is pebbly. Mlini is small but with a few nice eating places. Our favourite was Lanterna which overlooked the harbour. Also good is Bistro G and Marinero. Water taxis leave the harbour quite regularly for Dubrovnik or Cavtat. You van also book trips to the some og the islands from the harbour. We experienced mixed weather conditions and a spectacular thunderstorm but I reckon we were just unlucky. We did make use of the two flat screen tvs , one in lounge and one in bedroom. Mainly kept up to date with BBC News24.

Arriving after a white-knuckle flight from LGW into Dubrovnik (another airline diverted to Split due to electric storm over Southern Croatia) we were delighted to be on half-board terms as weather would have made it impossible to find a local restaurant for dinner. Our Standard twin-bedded room was comfortable but no tea/coffee making facilities in room nor in restaurant after dinner but could be purchased in Piano Bar. Entertainment limited to a single guitarist supplementing taped music for a couple of hours most evenings. Excellent outdoor and indoor pools; the latter adjacent to an outside sun terrace with complementary sun-beds. Regular boat trips from nearby Mlini pier/harbour to Dubrovnic and nearby coastal villages and islands plus reasonably-priced hotel shuttle bus and public transport to Dubrovnik and Captat. Plentiful tours to Bosnia and Montenegro but expect delays at the borders. Shops/restaurants accept credit/debit cards and some accept neighbouring currencies (Bosnian Marks & Croatian Kuna) as well as the Euro but watch out for double exchange rate conversions. Hotel Astarea restaurant is entirely buffet-style and coffee/tea is only available with breakfast. After dinner it has to be purchased at the Piano Bar.

Location: the hotel (both buildings and the villas) was located in a small quiet village not very far from Dubrovnik, which could be easily reached by sea/shuttle bus. The only thing about the location was that there were very few nice restaurants, basically no playgrounds for kids or any sort of entertainment for adults, such as bicycles or similar; the supermarket was pretty far from the hotel. Astarea II (***): the room itself was a bit shabby, the bathroom -recently renovated. And there was a little too much furniture for the room of such a size. From the window and balcony there was a nice sea view though. Cleaning really needed to be improved. The towels were also too old and needed to be replaced by the new ones. The meals were served in the main building (Astarea I(****). Breakfast was good enough, just the coffee tasted not extremely good and the normal juice was absent. Dinner was always very good -always available: several types of fish, meat, vegetables, ragout, soup, fruits, pastry, etc. The staff at the reception was mostly friendly and helpful.

Hotel is located on hillside. We stayed in main building which is quite old. New villas were builded on the beach. They looked nice. Room was quite small and we had an extra bed in room even we did not ordered one. That made room even smaller. I did not like the bed cos it made my back hurt. We had room over the lobby so wifi worked also in room. Be sure that you have included, at least, breakfast and dinner to youre room price cos there is only one decent restaurant near. Few beachbars etc. about 15-20min walk. Food was pretty good in hotel. Beer(0,3l): ~3€, Mineral water (0,5l): ~2,5€, Juices (0,2l): ~3€. If you like something else to do, than lay on a beach or pool, here is very little to do, practically nothing. We went to this "island tour" which was kind of boring. It took 8hours. Boat left at nearby harbour. Remember to try and rent Kayaks! That was fun. Fortunately shuttleboats leaves quite often to Dubrovnik, it cost 80kn (~11€) roundtrip. There is much more to do. Shuttleboat takes about 20-25min to Dubrovnik. positive: Hotel is on a (rocky)beach and pool area is nice. Nice view and location just under the mountains. Shuttleboats leave on nearby harbour, only 5 min walk. Food negative: Very little to do (only few restaurants etc near). Quite expensive food and beverages. Gym is not free for guests. Small room (superior double). Bed was unforcomtable.
I feel like i need to leave my feedback here and share all my feelings and experiences. We had a great time in resort, stayed in bungalow which was large and well furnished.there was large balcony with beautiful view. The beds were comfortable, it was very quite place. The staff was helpfull and very friendly and reception department was very professional and very busy. Me and my family would like to say THANK YOU for all who made our vacation so comfortable, specially to my stewardess Ana and houskeeper Berri who were carrying about us and who made each morning with laugh. I highly reccomend this resort and believe that everyone who come here will get an excellent vacation.

Great location about 10 Kim's outside of Dubrovnik with a bus stop outside the hotel gates ( bus No 10.) The rooms are small and uninspiring, they look left over from the eighties .... I tried 5 rooms and the all stank strongly of stale cigarettes, the reception were very dismissive and no helpful at all and almost rude. The carpet was old and the towels were cleaned but had old stains on them ( yuk ) I would not stay here again, there plenty of better around Dubrovnik.

Mlini is an excellent base for Dubrovnik and surrounding island trips and the hotel's location is fantastic. We thought we would be staying in the annex but were pleased when we were given a room in the main building. This was a lovely modern triple room with a good bathroom. The two pools are lovely, on two occasions I had the indoor pool to myself and it is a good size. Breakfast was good, a bit crowded some days but this is a large, busy hotel and food was replenished quickly. We found the reception staff professional but not particularly friendly/warm - maybe this is the norm in Croatia? However, two of the drivers on the shuttle to Dubrovick (which was very convenient) were lovely and very helpful. Unlike, one gentleman on the hotel shuttle booking desk who was very impatiient with us. Apart from this, we had an excellent stay here. We took the Elaphite islands boat trip and visited Cavtat. Dubrovnick is stunning, but I don't think we would have wanted to stay there - the Astarea was an excellent base and we would return again.

Great location by the sea in Mlini. We stayed in Astarea 2 which really needs updating. Unfortunately our room smelled of mould which was evident in the corner of the room also the wood panelling above the curtains had become detached leaving plain chipboard on view and the trim on the table was loose and hanging free. On the plus side you couldn't fault the staff, the food was good, pool areas (inside & out)were fresh and clean. I'd be interested to know if the rooms in Astarea1 are priced the same?
