Good hotel that needs attention to details, beautiful view, good buffet, however the rooms had carpet worn out and dirty and the pool staff could be better trained in customer satisfaction. You had to ask twice to get answers.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good location, and not bad for the price."
Arriving at the hotel, we were horrified at the condition of the beach, as tractors had been trailing up and down it to reach the building site which was for a new outdoor pool and bungalows. A member of staff apologised and explained that bad weather had delayed the building work. However, we found a very pretty beach 5 minutes walk along to the next […] village. Every day, we had to walk through a building site to reach the village. The only other negative that we found, was the unbelievably bad breakfast dishes. I have never seen or tasted anything like it, so gave up after day one and stuck to toast, cheese and yogurt. On top of this, the assistants strolled up and down with a trolley, scraping the left overs into a bucket right under our noses ! On a positive note, the hotel was clean and peaceful. Mlini village was quite pleasant with a few old buildings, a stream and a beautiful old tree. We tried 3 of the restaurants, which were all good, but the Lanterna was our favourite. The shuttle minibus was easy to book, pleasant and convenient. The bedroom was fine, but it could have been a travelodge on the M1 if you didn't look out of the window. The beds were very comfortable, with cool cotton sheets, and the bathroom was well designed although tiny. We were not allowed food or drink in our room which I thought was a bit strict ! In the evenings, we enjoyed dancing in the Piano Bar where a musician sang and played guitar to a backing track. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good location and cleanliness"
The hotel is situated midway between Dubrovnik Airport and Dubrovnik Old Town. Expect to pay approx 180kuna (about £19) for a taxi from the airport to the hotel. The hotel itself is spotless (even though it was undergoing some building work during our stay). Reception staff were helpful and attentive. Our room was in the annex, which is not as bad as […] it sounds - lovely sea view, newly fitted bathroom and a comfortable enough bed. Only negatives might be the reception area lacking much atmosphere, and the food. We were bed and breakfast, but on our night of arrival opted to pay for the evening buffet service at a cost of approx £15 a head and the food was bland and tasteless and definately not worth the money! Breakfast on the other hand was adequate and set us up for the day. The hotel beach is a little sparse, and again, lacks atmosphere. There are only three alternative restaurants close by to the hotel. The indoor pool was nice. An outdoor pool is under construction. The hotel is definately popular with an older clientele, with the average age at least 60! Special mention should go to Joseph who arranges transportation too and from the hotel. He is friendly and helpful. Buses too and from Dubrovnik and nearby Cavtat are relatively easy to negotiate, but the long slope to the bus stop could be tricky for some. Overall, a good stay and excellent base for exploring this part of the country. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Brilliant for some relaxation!"
This hotel is definitely targeted towards an older crowd, however the services available and provided are great for all. I read a number of reviews quoting the staff as rude or not very forthcoming. I think this is a misinterpretation and an injustice towards them. They were always helpful and tried to assist wherever possible. I do think their level […] of English language sometimes made them feel uncomfortable, but they could converse more than adequately. The swimming pool, gym, sauna and other amenities may cost extra (£3 per amenity), but it appeared this only applied in the evening (albeit the attendants were rarely there to accept the payment!). There is a shuttle bus that runs a return trip to Dubrovnik (7 miles away) for £5 pp or alternatively, there is a bus stop 200 yards from the hotel entrance on the main road which has regular buses (number 10) to Dubrovnik for £1.50 (the last bus back from Dubrovnik is at 0130 hours). The hotel itself is very quiet and idyllic for people looking for a relaxing break away from the hustle and bustle of the cities. There is an acoustic guitar player most nights in the bar from 9pm and drinks are relatively cheap. Breakfast was brilliant and there are a number of restaurants nearby to have a good choice of evening meals. All in all, it is a superb place and I would definitely recommend it to family and friends, but not if you're wanting an adrenaline packed holiday. The sunsets from the hotel are spectacular! Smelly shower curtain, tired decor. Rude overstretched piano bar staff. Staying for just one night so did not have the energy or time to complain at the time. "beautiful location for a hotel."
The hotel was of easy reach from the airport, only a 15min drive. Staff were polite and helpful, providing a brilliant service and went out of their way to arrange excursions for us. Breakfast was satisfactory, it was the same thing everyday, a bit of variety would of been nice especially for vegetarians. cleanliness of the hotel was exceptional and […] the daily cleaning of the room was good. This location was good for those who want a quiet break, not for party goers. The view from the hotel was beautiful, from the sunrise in the morning to the sunset in the evening and watching the moonlight glisten over the sea was so surreal. "Well located hotel"
The views from and around the hotel are stunning. The hotel itself is fairly basic, having adequate amenities. We went during the London 2012 Olympics so we were often hanging out in the bar area hoping to catch some action on the TV screen. On the whole this was a much underused area of the hotel even in the evening. Food was our one disappointing […] factor. We had breakfast included and this was not great but ok if you are not fussed about the quality of what you eat. Be aware use of the gym is at an extra cost if that is one of the attractions of this hotel for you as it was for us. We decided not to use it in the end as it was charged by the hour. We did have free use of the swimming pool but as the sea is literally on the doorstep of this hotel you will probably not make use of it like us. The hotel had car hire facility on site and a number of tour operators if you wanted to see the sites and was happy to let someone take care of that. We ended up hiring a car to see more of the area. This cost about 450 Kuna's which is about £50. It's worth doing when travelling further afield otherwise use public transport, which is pretty cheap. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Hotell i ein roleg og idyllisk landsby"
"OK Standard, Good facilities"
We enjoyed staying at Hotel Astraea, mostly because of the closeness to Dubrovnik (10 minutes with local bus), the new, fresh pool area, the calm surroundings and the cheap price. Mlini did not offer to many restaurants or pubs, but you can easily get to Dubrovnik. from the hotel. Unfortunately the breakfast wasn't the best, neither was the dinner. […] But it´s an OK budget alternative. The room cleaning was good and the facilities okay, however we did really miss a fridge.
AC i rummet fungerar inge vidare. Nice place, perfect location, room with a wonderful sea view, swimming pools, beach, restaurant, nothing is missing. It's a hotel that has developed its role as a group hotel and this is not a very positive side...breakfast is over crowded and there is not so much choice in food but this doesn't compromise the general positive impression you can get. I would ask the hotel to improve the wifi connection extending it to all the rooms.....

Just back from Mlini and two weeks in the Asterea. Lovely resort. The hotel and staff were great and the indoor saltwater pool is fantastic. The new outdoor pool is also very nice. We had a lovely room with fabulous views - we thought we would be in the annexe but we were put in the main hotel which was a bonus. Our only criticism was that smoking should be banned from the breakfast terrace - we enjoyed eating here but it was spoilt by those that felt they need a cigarette with their eggs and bacon. We would stay at the Asterea again but hope that the smoking policy might be reviewed. We would recommend Croatia. The people were lovely and everything was good value.

Having remembered as a teenager people visiting Yugoslavia and loving it, we decided to book a 6 night break half board in the Astarea hotel, Mlini beach. We loved it, the staff were friendly the rooms clean and comfortable, the food selection was good with plenty of choice. The hotel location was ideal to visit other beaches and islands by boat or bus. Although not needed by us there was children's entertainment during the day, a beautiful swimming pool (indoor and out) and private beach area. Well worth the trip..

"Perfect Holiday Destination"

We have just returned from a week's holiday in this most perfect holiday destination. We stayed in a villa in the grounds of the Hotel Astarea. The villa had idyllic views, was very comfortable, spotlessly clean and the air-conditioning was brilliant! The Hotel staff were incredibly helpful and very welcoming. The pool area was well-eqipped with plenty of sun beds and kept very tidy and exceptionally clean. The views were gorgeous too! There are plenty of restaurants and cafes around the complex which were all excellent and the Dubrovnik Riveria area was peaceful and relaxing. There was live music at nightime (8.30pm-11.00pm roughly) but this was tasteful and very pleasant. The Shuttle Bus from the Hotel to Dubrovnik Old Town was very efficient and well worth the price (which we felt was very reasonable). There's plenty to do on the doorstep - Dubrovnik Old Town is spectacular with its incredible history, city walls walk and amazing plaza. There are lovely day trips available if you fancy visiting further afield (an excellent local company 'Amico' took us on a superb day trip and our guide spoke perfect English and was very knowledgeable and interesting). We couldn't recommend these hotel villas and the Dubrovnik Riveria complex more highly. It was truly perfect!
"Another great holiday in Mlini"
08/10/14 LindyWestmorland Arnside, United Kingdom
This was our 7th visit to Mlini, staying previously in the Hotel Mlini which is now being rebuilt as a boutique hotel, this year staying at the Astarea. We had a great holiday as usual. The staff here are friendly and helpful, the housekeeping staff efficient and discreet, and the hotel is clean and cool. The food is plentiful and good. All tastes seem to be catered for with a large variety of food at every meal. The bed linen and towels are changed regularly. The amenities are good, nice pool outside, and lovely views of the bay. Our only slightly negative observation was that although the swimming pool has a list of rules and regulations for its safe and unselfish use, ie no reserving sunbeds, no ball games in the pool, no inflatables, no diving etc., there is nobody on hand to ensure they are upheld. Unfortunately some parents did not seem to be in control of their own children and we watched them back-flipping into the water and jumping off the water spout, and swimmers in the pool after hours when it was dark. Sometimes the background music was too intrusive. Apart from those concerns we will be returning here again as we like it so much.

My wife and I have just returned after a one week stay at the Astarea Mlini. The situation of the hotel is superb set in a very quiet bay with wonderful walks along the promenade with plenty of watering holes and a picturesque small harbor. The sea was very warm and people friendly The new swimming pool and sun decking area are very good. We had a wonderful suite in our bungalow, like an apartment and it was probably the best hotel room ever, The view out to sea was outstanding. Bed linen was changed every couple of days and room service was daily. The all staff at this hotel really are a delight and we wish them all well in what is a new venture for Astarea Whilst the hotel has a high staffing level and we would like to thank them all for making our holiday so enjoyable, in particular we would single-out housekeeper Berry who explained about Dubrovnik, that we were interested and who cared for us.. We will remember her pleasant and nice smile. You certainly would not be disappointed by spending a holiday at the Astarea.

Very nice hotel located in Mlini, just outside Dubrovnik. Great location and fantastic facilities. Two outdoor pools and 1 indoor, with only a few steps then your on the beach. Restuarant 1st class with waiter/waitress service and indoor and outdoor seating. Highly recommend. It is a bit hilly and lots of stairs so might not suit if trouble walking. Ramps are available asnd lifts also.
"The best place for relax, quite and cozy"
08/04/14 Nataliya623 Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine
Astarea II is the second biding in the complex of Astarea hotels in Mlini. My husband and I stayed there for ten days. The room on the first floor (712) was very cozy because the sun could not heat it too much because of the high cypress tree. Actually , the hotel stays in the park and you breath terrific air from the sea plus pines' and oleanders' scents. It was something! From our room it was a beautiful view on the sea and at night we heard the waves' whisper. We did not even switch the air conditioner because it was not too hot even when temperature was above 30 Degrees. The room was rather big with a sofa besides the beds of king size. The towels were changed everyday. Some problem was with shampoo but after my notice soaps and shampoos appeared everyday. Unfortunately we had no safe in the room and used the one at the reception. Anyway we visited the reception hall at least twice a day. We have had the HB, so we enjoyed very nice breakfast and dinner (from 7 to 10 p.m.). Both were buffets with wide proposal of dishes. There are two pools at the sun area with comfortable beds, one for adults, one for children. One more big pool is inside. You may use it when it rains. Though we did not live in bungalows we saw them and if we were a big family with children we'd book one of these beautiful houses. There are not many restaurants in Mlini, we met very good one in the Tsavtat. It is a very quiet and peaceful town. Good for aged people and the families with children.
