This "Classic 1930's" boutique hotel is awesome the renovations are beautiful, the rooms and grounds are wonderfully appointed. We came to Palm Springs for a quick warm up, it was -1 when we left Kansas City, and this was a perfect choice, large pool area for sunning, hot tub, fire place, patio bar and restaurant, and excellent service, and the rooms are great. If you are looking for a "cookie cutter luxury resort and spa" or a "high rise hotel and casino" look elsewhere. If you're looking for cozy setting with plenty of palms and lemon trees, super comfortable rooms with great bathrooms and a fabulous staff The Colony Palms is the place. We can't wait to return.

We checked in about 6 p.m. on a Friday evening. We dropped our bags in the room (which was beautiful) and went to dinner. We returned late and exhausted from our long day of work and travel, finally got to bed. One side of the bed was literally leaning. It wasn't something that you noticed just looking at the bed with all the linens and pillows on it but when you actually went to lie down to go to sleep - no way. You would have had an easier time sleeping on a roof! So we called the desk and explained the problem. They told us that they had no other rooms available but my husband was firm and they relented and moved us to a "larger and better" room. We had to get dressed and re-pack everything quite late at night and then move to the other room, unpack & get re-settled in. I found the "larger and better" room not at all larger and certainly not better - it was actually smaller and it had a fireplace which we didn't even use but that must be why it was better? The layout was not as nice as the original room. A member of housekeeping came down to give us the new room keys and take our old keys and while she waited for us to move our things, she told us that she had requested maintenance on the bed in our original room over a month ago and nothing had been done about it. She said others had complained also. That really made us angry. They knew about it at 6 pm when we checked in yet still gave us that room! We never received an apology (or anything) at all. We thought that was very disappointing. They could have made the situation okay with a simple apology (maybe a complimentary drink or something?) but they never acknowledged the incident in any way. We were there two nights. Moral of the story: Always lie on the bed as soon as you get into a room - even if it's a 4 or 5 store resort!

We preferred to sit by the bar / pool and then fire instead. The only drawback was the service at breakfast seemed to be missing the waiter, but we would return and recommend to others.

The hotel grounds are lush and beautiful with lots of trees, plants, and water features, very relaxing. The pool was good-sized for the size of the hotel, but the pool water was actually too warm. The music around the pool was much too loud, we found it difficult to relax and read a book due to this-it's nice to just have some peace and quiet. We paid for an upgrade to a casita with a private patio and outdoor tub, which was nice, but the tub jets worked very poorly, and the patio area was covered in dust and leaves. Our feet were always dirty because we tracked the dirt in from the patio into our room. It really is a very nice place, but a bit more attention to detail would be good. The staff were great, very friendly and attentive, although it was hard to get served by the pool.

This was a nice place to stay if you like small boutique hotels. The minor inconveniences consisted of the pool area being too small to accommodate everyone which caused a big commotion between several different groups of people, the bathroom has a big double sliding door into the bedroom which seemed a bit weird every time you went to the bathroom, and on Sunday, they advertised free pastries starting at 7. Finally at 8:30 they brought out 1 tray of piping hot delicious cinnamon rolls and buns. ONE TRAY - that was it. Of course, with all those guys there, they only lasted 2 minutes and that was it with the free pastries. It seemed kinda odd they made it sound like there would be plenty. The purple lemonades were good, but $12 seems like A LOT for a little plastic cup filled with ice and a little beverage. The good things: ice cold water by the pool, Daniel the waiter was very friendly. This would be very nice if you just wanted to lounge by the pool and not really go out. We thought it would be a lot closer to town -it's not far, but it's not THAT close either. The staff did bring out extra lounge chairs, but there was only so much room by the pool. All of the staff were nicely attired and very polite.

We actually received a complimentary upgrade to a "Casita" which included a small patio with a spa tub. The room was nice and reflected the Spanish style. However, the spa tub had insects inside and wasn't cleaned prior to check-in. The plasma TV was a tad bit small for the room. Apparently, guests are allowed to bring their dogs and we had the honor of hearing a dog barking practically all night. Guests even bring their dogs to the pool area and restaurant. There appeared to be no restrictions in this area which is annoying. The pool area is quite small and impossible to get a seat/lounge chair. Overall, the staff was friendly and accommodating. My only complaints are allowing animals and they need to clean the spa tub in the room.

However there was a fully stocked bar complete with martini glass, wine and champagne glasses.
