"Lovely place to stay"
Very nice place to stay clean & staff was very freindly & helpful. Only downfall was arranging things to do. Most of the things to do like snorkrling, helmet diving & island hopping etc. all required cash payment only. There is no ATM at the hotel so had to go to the mall & find an ATM that was for international use. I think they should have a ATM there […] or when they arrange it for you, you should be able to pay for it through your room. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Genuine Expedia guest review

Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Relaxing Place to Stay Away from Boracay Crowd"
01/26/15 rjdexplorer Pangasinan
Boracay is crowded, accept it. This will be a major complain if you visit the famous island in the Philippines but can actually be addressed by staying away from White Beach. Microtel Boracay was perfectly located away from the crowd, tucked along Diniwid Beach, near Station 1. The travel to the hotel was a hassle-free one: hotel staff met me at Caticlan Airport and led me to the Jetty Port, and to the hotel. I was welcomed by a cheerful staff at the hotel's entrance who greeted me and gave me a necklace made of shells, followed by another staff on the hotel's lobby who handed me a refreshing welcome drink and cold towel that relieved me from the trip from Cebu. These simple gestures attracted all positive vibes throughout the whole stay. The pool and the poolside, with the restaurant a few meters, is a cozy place to chill especially during sun down. Lounge chairs are available for readings or short naps under the shades of towering coconut trees. It is also a nice spot to watch for the sunset. I also found myself in the lounge area, with some sets of tables and chairs, everytime I needed to be online with the good Wifi connection. A shelf of books can also be found in the lobby just in case you want to read novels. Rooms are equipped with the essential needs but what's important for me is the chiropractor bed that takes care of my good and revitalizing sleep, always. I just wanted to stay all day in the room, blame it to the chiropractor beds. If you intend to go to White Beach and D' Mall, it can be reached by a 15-minute leisure walk on the beach from the hotel. However, you can avail Microtel's hourly shuttle service to the destination, and they can drop you there even if you're the only one availing the shuttle on that hour. In terms of food, servings in Mama's Fish House are really hefty and can be shared by 2-3 people. Breakfast is not buffet, though the ala carte offerings were enough. I super love the fluffy pancakes, crispy bacon, and fresh watermelon as well.
"Great place to stay"
01/26/15 Mark1974209 Shanghai
We stayed 2 nights in this hotel at the end of the beach. This makes it a more secluded, quiet and special place. For us a fantastic location. Our room was okay, not very luxurious (although the room rate is not cheap). The pool is good, white sandy beach around the corner (straight in front you will find palmtrees and sea, but because it's 'at the end' and near the rock, swimming in front is a bit difficult. But fine for us, only 1 minute walk to a nice beach. The restaurant serves excellent food, breakfast is sufficient (no buffet). Overall very good. One note: there are doors in between the rooms, which are not very well insulated. We could hear the neighbor throwing up the whole day (apparently he had food poisoning or too much to drink ;-) ) Second note: there are a lot of Russians here.
"Good value compared to other hotels in Boracay"
01/23/15 Danielle S Dallas, Texas
After reading several reviews of various hotels/locations in Boracay and comparing prices we were unsure where we wanted to stay for our 8 day trip to the island. So we booked 2 nights at the Shoretime Hotel with the plan of scouting out the area the day after we arrived so we could look for a hotel for the remaining 6 days of the trip. So glad we did. Overall we were disappointed with Boracay. It's not that it's over developed, it's more that the development has taken place in a completely unsustainable manner. It seems like everything is built on top of each other. Anyway, that's another review. After seeing first hand the condition that station 2 is in, we were happy we didn't book in that area (we're just too old for that scene- we're late 30's and don't care for the party scene). We walked up and down the beach in station 1 and looked at various hotels, so I feel like we got a good sense of all the hotels in station 1. The Microtel was the best hotel in it's price range. There are some nice hotels in station 1, but they will cost at least $125-350 per night. We found the Microtel on Trivago for $64-$82 per night ($79-$102 including taxes). We liked the location of the hotel as it was a distance from the busier White Beach, but still close enough to walk there within 15 minutes. The beachfront in front of the Microtel is rocky, but just 30 meters away is a more manageable beach. The location offers a GREAT view of the sunset. The restaurant is right on the waterfront- great spot to have coffee in the morning. There are lounge chairs for guests on the waterfront. You can either walk to D Mall along the beach (about 30 minutes) or take the free hotel shuttle that leaves once an hour on the hour and also offers return service. The property was exceptionally clean, as was our room. It's a no frills hotel, so the rooms were basic, but not as basic as some of the other hotels we've stayed in along the way. The lobby area is also very basic, but we spent most of our time outside near the pool and the waterfront, so that didn't bother us. The staff was so incredibly nice. Wifi is free in the lobby and the lounge, but not in the rooms. You have to pay extra if you want wifi in your room, which in this day and age is more unusual than typical (in my experience). The wifi signal is good. You also have to pay 100 pesos to use the computer, which should be complimentary in my opinion. But thats small stuff. Overall we were happy with our experience at the Microtel. However, we would not return to Boracay. In my opinion, there are far better options in SE Asia that provide much more value for the money. We thought Boracay was really overpriced for what we got.

On first arrival I was disappointed by the 'beach' as it wasn't as the photos indicated. It was rocky and almost unable to swim there although I did see a man venture in once during our stay. We just went one or two bays around and used the beach. The pool area was a plus to jump into for a quick cool off though. Rooms were dated and average however they were clean. The breakfast was quite good, I found staff usually walked around appearing busy doing nothing and we continually had to get their attention by going to the bar or waving to order. One morning they 'ran out of tea'?? so I had an alternative of ginger tea which was then charged to my room? Not sure how you run out of tea but anyway. Another issue we had with staff was the morning we were due to checkout we had an email from our airline advising of the cancellation of our flight back to Manila (we had a connecting flight from Manila - Sydney late that evening) and we asked Joan at the front desk if she could advise if there were travel agents in the main town so we could try and find alternate flights etc. She said there was but when asked if she could provide us with a phone number she said she couldn't give out that information???????? What? She suggested we use the computer in the lounge area to find the number. So we go ahead and HIRE the communal computer which is slower than anything I've ever used after 1991. It took us all of 40 minutes to load a couple of pages and in the end we decided to give up. We found the capacity of reception staff limited to checking you in and out but suggest this comes from extreme lack of training from the powers above. We found the security staff most helpful and always checking our room number etc as we entered or left the hotel. We had one meal outside of our included breakfast at the restaurant, both local dishes that were tasty and satisfying. Would I stay here again? No, but it is a much quieter area than station 2 and on more exploration of the island decided if we were to come back we would head to station 3 where it seems more family orientated, has a great wide beach and many food and drink outlets. I hope this review helps somewhat as I booked this accommodation based on previous reviews and was disappointed.
"Just what we were looking for in Boracay"
01/03/15 Yna S San Juan, Quezon City, Philippines
I was looking for a nice, quiet, clean and not too expensive hotel in Boracay and found Microtel to be exactly that and more. Located at Diniwid beach, I enjoyed the tranquility of being a good distance away from the legendary Boracay parties, which of course we went to everyday anyhow. Having Microtel to go home to was a definite relief from the festivities of Boracay's station 2 parties. We were able to get a room with a sliding door access to the pool which was just a few steps away. I think there are just two rooms like this. If you wouldn't mind hearing children having fun at the pool during daytime, this is perfect! In any case, there are many other rooms to avail of. We also enjoyed the view of the beach beyond from that sliding door. Our room was clean and cozy, just the way we liked it. We slept like logs. And there was a microwave oven!:-) Beach experience. Microtel is a beachfront hotel. Fantastic! Plus it's quaint, secluded location let's you enjoy watching the beach, sunbathing, or taking a most wonderful dip in the clear blue waters without too many eyes watching you as well. I think i spent a good hour and a half in the water. Loved every minute of it! They also have beach masseuse. For 350 an hour, a massage by the beach is just plain wonderful! The staff. Absolutely accommodating! Excellent service! From Kalibo port to Microtel and back, our coordinator Marlon took excellent care of us! Then there was Ace, Microtel's manager. This guy's super! So giving and accommodating! I can't say enough! And their attendants and security guys! They set up my beach lounge chair at the front beach right away and then the umbrella when the sun got too hot. I felt so spoiled! Ok, i think i'm hardselling already. But this is just how wonderful my experience had been with Microtel. Will definitely go back!:-)
"Room with noise but without view."
12/25/14 GiloManila Manila
We ended up staying here for one week as, for unfortunate circumstances, we could not pursue our original plans to go to another island and had no option to advance our flights back to Manila. Moreover, being Christmas season, most hotels were fully booked. There is really not much to like about this hotel, no matter how much you try to. One big issue is that local neighbours constantly fumigate the pool, lounge, breakfast and playground areas of the hotel by burning wood for cooking purposes. At times the smoke gets so thick that you can hardly breathe. And the worse thing is that the hotel's management doesn't care about it as they think that having reported it to the municipal authority (with no results, of course) is already enough. The only thing they could think of was to put a nauseating deodorizing pot to cover up the smell of the haze, which was actually making things worse. Breakfast is made of set menus (some permanently unavailable) and is scarce and unimaginative. The restaurant is overpriced and generally of low quality. The only decent dish we had in 7 days was a grilled chicken breast. Standard rooms are dark, drab, cheaply furnished, with old, noisy and poorly maintained window type aircons; the lone window faces walls of concrete or bamboo and in any case you can't open it because of the smell of the smoke and/or the noise of the nearby roosters and dogs. Bathrooms are run down, and with no space to put your toiletries. The most tragic thing, though, is the lay out of the ground floor which combined with the wafer-thin walls, manages to amplify noises and make them bounce; as a result you hear every single noise from the neighbours and the people in the lounge. On average, we managed to sleep only 2 hours per night, i.e. just after the late night drinkers were going to sleep and before the early morning risers were waking up. The rudeness of the clientele and the usual 'who cares' attitude of the management didn't help. Mattresses are sinking in the middle and pillows are too thick and too hard. Internet connection is painfully slow. The beach area is small, cramped, with uneven terrain and with few chairs that are all taken early in the morning. The hotel is far away from the restaurants area and you heavily depend on their shuttle (which admittedly is very punctual, but runs only once every hour). On the bright side, staff are quite nice (if not very efficient). The security staff, in particular, try to be helpful on the beach by lining up chairs and umbrellas and making sure that people get a place to lie down (sooner or later). Also, the common areas are kept clean, but the cleanliness in the room is not great: the TV support and the top of the cabinet in our room had not been dusted in weeks. Finally, they charged us 450 pesos per person for the transport to Caticlan but the van stopped on the way twice and even made us do a detour to bring hotel staff and friends where they needed to go. In any case during peak season guests flock in droves, so who cares? Another sad Boracay tale to write off.
"Wonderful hotel and staff!"

Me and my family are currently staying at Microtel Boracay, and so far have liked it a lot. Positive points worth noting: 1. If someone wants to stay in a serene part of Boracay far from the hustle and bustle of the other stations, then I would definitely recommend staying in this hotel. 2. Very friendly, polite, and courteous staff. Really attentive to all requests and makes sure to provide it to their guests. We only had one request which wasn't given, we requested to swap our room for a sea view, unforutnately all are occupied - they say... (though me and the other guests have noticed that only 2 to 3 sea view rooms seemed occupied). Anyway, it's still a lovely place to stay at. 3. Big and clean room 4. Comfy beddings 5. Free shuttle rides to and from D'Mall (they provide this service on an hourly basis, and only upon the request of the guest, so don't expect a shuttle to arrive at the D'Mall if no one booked it. Make sure you pre-book a sched, or you can opt for a tricycle ride at Php150/-.) Just a few suggestions that they might want to add or improve on: 1. Safety box - they don't have one inside the rooms, though you could go down at the reception and they will safekeep your valuables. They will provide you with a card that you can surrender when you want to have your valuables back. 2. Dual temp. hairdryer - they only have hot air hairdryer (I sweat like a pig and struggled drying my hair as I always have to pause and go out of the washroom - couldn't stand the accumulated warm temp inside!). 3. Minibar - there was no minibar (I didn't try to ask them if they could provide this, maybe they can?) 4. Unsteady wifi connection at the lounge / lobby - if there is only 1 or 2 users connecting to the same line then it's fine, but since it's a hotel a lot of guests are expected to connect on the same port. 5. Food selections - they have minimal options to choose from. I've stayed in 2, 3, 4, and 5 star rating hotels abroad and 1 thing they have in common - they all serve open buffet breakfast. I don't mind paying extra as long as I can make my tummy happy :) hehehe...

"Great value, lovely staff"
12/18/14 LovemyJY2 Kuala Lumpur
I have to agree to all the good reviews posted by Aralya, JoannelSL and MattAndSamEngland below, whom I met during my stay in Microtel in early December. Quoting Aralya's comment: "...The staff (from the front desk to the security men to the waiters and cleaning teams) are amazing." Yes no doubt, they are. My special thanks to the front desk staffs who helped me to print our boarding passes and contacting the land transfer service provider to re-schedule the pick up time after our flight was canceled by the airline due to Typhoon Ruby. Moreover, all these services were rendered to us cheerfully without any extra charges. Also, my thanks to those staffs who took all the precaution measures to ensure the safety of the hotel guest during the typhoon period. Although we were requested to move out from the beachfront view room, we know it's for the safety of us. The rooms were spacious and clean, perfect for my family of 4. Thumbs up to the cleaners who clean our rooms everyday. I even them cleaning the wall with a light scented cloth! Although the rooms fit 4 pax (2 queen beds), only 2 complimentary breakfasts were provided. However, since it's not a buffer breakfast, no charges on my kids who share food with us. Furthermore they got to drink free, so shouldn't complain on this. About the location: Diniwid Beach is far from the happening Station 2 (D'mall), but this also mean it's good for those who enjoy a quiet stay. The hotel offer free shuttle service to D'mall every hour from morning till mid night. It takes about 15 minutes to reach D'mall with the shuttle and we used the service very often during our stay to have our lunch & dinner at D'mall. We enjoy our stay in Microtel and would love to thank the staffs again for their warm hospitality.

Lovely place to stay on a nice quiet beach only 15-20 minutes walk from the main boat station 1-3 areas. The staff are truly excellent and looked after us well, despite the threat of Cyclone Ruby closing things down for a few days.
