Features. Nestled in a park-like setting, this lodge features a multi-level wraparound deck looking out to the passing float planes, barges, fishing boats, yachts, ferries and cruise ships on the Tongass Narrows. Eagles, seagulls and ravens often perch on the properties 60-year-old spruce and cedar trees. Complimentary continental breakfasts are served each morning on the deck, in the dining room or in the guestrooms. The kitchen, laundry facilities and fish freezer are available for guests' use. Complimentary wireless Internet access, fax and photocopy machines, and meeting rooms are available. The living room offers a leather couch, flat-screen television, DVD player, VCR, and movie and game cabinet. The inn features a hot tub contained in a covered deck. A barbeque grill, crab cooker, fish smoker and an area for cleaning fish is provided for guests' use. Concierge services, including assistance with recreational events, shopping trips and guided hiking trips, are available.

Guestrooms. The Black Bear Inn offers four guest accommodations with panoramic views of the Tongass Narrows. All units provide flat-screen televisions, DVD players and VCRs. Accommodations are accessed via private entrances. Private bathrooms offer oversized soaking tubs or glass walk-in showers. Memory-foam or pillowtop mattresses are provided. Select units feature private balconies or porches.

Expert Tip. One of the innkeepers has experience as a floatplane pilot, tugboat operator and fisherman, providing him with extensive knowledge of Alaska's history and topography.
