L Empire Paris - Paris

Great location in the middle of the city between Louvre and Notre Dame. Also close to local shopping areas. It's only 3 blocks away from central station so we were able to take the train from the airport without needing a taxi. Comfortable and modern room. We booked the room with breakfast which was very good quality and convenient .

Upon entering the tiny lobby, there was a horrible perfumed smell, coming from a box that pumps air freshener into the room. We did not need the wake up call (which never came anyway), because we were awakened at the crack of dawn by a jackhammer, pounding away on the wall adjacent to the headboard of our bed. We finally agreed to a new room on the […] back side of the hotel. This room was a bit more quiet, but not as clean, the hairdryer was broken and simple amenities such as soap and washcloths were missing. We asked for soap multiple times and they never provided it. We also had to ask three times to have the trash removed from the bathroom and it never was done. We asked for clean glasses (the ones in the room were filthy.) We never received them. Our room was nearly a thousand US dollars a night. We were not trying to be picky, but one expects certain amenities, such as a clean water glass or the trash to be removed. The breakfast was nice. The food was good, but there are several patisseries and markets on the block, that had delicious offerings for a much better price. After missing three wake up calls, we were getting nervous about our final night. We had an early flight and were dependent on that call. My husband and I hounded the manager about making sure that we got our wake up call. We did get that final call, but it was 15 minutes late and we had already been woken up by the jackhammer, that was now on the roof. Read more

Over all our stay was fine. We had a problem with the room smelling like cigarette smoke. This hotel is a non-smoking hotel but when people smoke in the rooms, the staff does not confront the guest. Our first night the room next to us continued to smoke and it filled the hallway and our room with smoke. They did bring us a floor fan to try to get the […] smoke out but it was of no help. L'Hotel L'Empire Paris was a hotel that I would definitely stay at again. The location was one that many cab drivers couldn't find, but it was only about 5 blocks to the entrance of the Louvre and about 3 blocks from a major metro/RER stop, Chatelet-Les Halles, from which you could easily get anywhere in the city. Although they had a bar and cafe, we never used it and it isn't your "grand hotel" with a huge lobby, concierge, etc. However, for the price and location, it was definitely a great place to stay. We were pleasantly surprised by the large size of our room, how modern, clean and well appointed it was, the comfortable king sized bed, free wifi that actually had decent speed and the powerful shower. Plenty of good & bad for this hotel. Good = Location, Location, Location....literally 3 blocks from the Lourve and 1 block from a Metro station. Great cafes/bars within 2 minutes walking. The room was satisfactory, with a flat-screen TV, iPOD dock, air-conditioning, a mini bar & bathroom with double-sink. Overall the room was fairly clean, not spectacularly […] though. The hallways on each floor were another story. Carpeting was completely dilapidated with tons of stains. The hotel “ran out” of washcloths 1 night we were there, so we had to make due with towels only. The hotel lobby computer is ridiculously slow & the internet connection kept crashing. We never ate breakfast in the hotel as it was overpriced at 25 euros/person, which is ridiculous given there are tons of cafes 2 blocks away. Staff was helpful, several times making calls to get us restaurant reservations. By far the most helpful was the bartender Simon. He told us about several nearby clubs/bars and gave us directions everywhere we asked. To wrap up, this place represents a relative bargain for Paris (although it's not cheap. The staff was pretty helpful, particularly the bartender Simon, and the location is absolutely unbeatable. Rooms were clean but hallways disgusting. So if you want to spend a good deal of time in a hotel and have a really nice looking place, then stay somewhere else. But if you just want a comfortable, relatively inexpensive, conveniently located place to sleep, then this is a solid choice. Read more

We stayed in Paris for two nights at the L'Empire Paris after having spent three nights at Disneyland Paris (at the Disneyland Hotel there). This was a family trip doing both "The Mouse" stuff and some sightseeing. Most of the reviews were positive for this hotel prior to my booking it, but they didn't do it justice. We were in room 303 - "Rembrandt" […] - I think. It overlooked rue de L'Arbre Sec. Location - The hotel is a 10 minute walk to Notre Dame, a 5 minute walk to The Louvre Museum, 20 minute walk to the Seine River boats/tours. There are huge department stores 2 minutes away. There are wonderful, cute little boulangerie/patisseries ALL around the hotel (3 minutes in any direction), and there are several little restaurants / wine bars on rue de L'Arbre Sec. You want to get on the Metro, you say? 3 minutes one way towards the Louvre for one station or 4 minutes the other way for Les Halles (a major RER + Metro/subway station). The hotel is tucked back 30 yards or so on rue de L'Arbre Sec, so it's not easy to spot from Rue de Rivouli (sp?). Once you find it, though, you're hooked. Rooms - We had a "family room" with a jacuzzi spa. It had a king bed (very comfortable) and a pull-out double for our two children in another room. Each room had it's own TV. Very modern, and very, very spacious by French/European standards. The bathroom was also very large and spacious by European standards. Then entire "apartment" was decorated in a very modern style which we all liked. Huge, spacious closets as well. Staff - The staff all spoke very passable English. My French is far worse than their English. They all were extremely accommodating - from asking for an extra luggage rack / holder in the bedroom, to asking to take some coffee and tea back to the room after our breakfast the staff was warm and welcoming. Bread/croissant basket at each table in morning was wonderful, orange or strawberry juice fresh-squeezed. We were never rushed. Scrambled eggs cold, greenish and inedible, cheese was not fresh first morning but transformed on next day. Kitchen maitre had very bad cold and was coughing and touching everything (unsettling). Should have stayed home. Room very clean, beds comfy, modern, decor, don't expect views, very quiet, overlooked courtyard. Drink glasses left dirty for last 2 nights. We asked for help with reservations giving a list of top 3 choices + tipped well -- but reservation (confirmed to us by hotel) was unfound by restaurant...I don't think the hotel staff was at fault -- but good idea to reconfirm. The Internet worked great. We liked the whole experience a lot. The following is my commentary on things you should know, but keep in mind I did overall like the place and I gave it 4/5. My only complaints with the hotel itself were that: - if you forget to put up the do not disturb sign on the door, they come right in without knocking, which is awkward and weird. - There is a sink in the bedroom and there were some foul smells coming from it. They fixed the smells as soon as we told them about it. Our tummys got a little upset after drinking from it (we weren't sure where the smell was coming from at first) and we asked for some free bottled waters as a courtesy and they agreed, but they never showed up. Eventually they gave us 1 water the next day when I asked why they never gave us a few complimentary waters as promised. - I'm used to staying at big hotels where they have a currency exchange on-site, and a gift shop inhouse selling SIM cards for the cell phone & the top-up card for service. My daughter and I had a vacation of a lifetime in Paris largely due to location of this hotel. The hotel is almost dead center Paris and walking distance to most tourist attractions. They provided excellent customer service and accommodated our last minute request to have our two rooms next to each other which we had not previously asked for. Our room had water seeping under the floor and when you stepped the water came up through the floor boards.
