Staff were friendly and helpful, beds were comfortable and we had a nice view onto the garden but everything was broken, it wasn't totally clean and not very functional. Based on the price it was acceptable but I wouldn't stay again.

Overall I would rate it average. The only problem was the restaurant was in the other hotel i.e. at Edgbaston Palace Hotel and it was a real problem to go out of the hotel during snow for dinner.

Was kept awake on the Wednesday night due to building work that went on until after midnight. I contacted the reception who said they would 'check it out' but in fact did nothing. When reporting the matter the next morning the reception staff could not be bothered about it and offered no apology. This is not a hotel it's an annex of the Palace Hotel next door our room had paint peeling off ceiling the bed was squeezed on to a metal mezzanine floor six foot from ceiling and stairs up to it and single glazed windows so you good hear all the smokers and cars outside. Worst night of my trip.

He hotel itself was ok and the room was ok for the money. The room looked like it was going to fall apart like the previous review said with the curtains about to fall off, I have no idea why they couldn't get some fixings and make the room look at least a bit more presentable. Hotel in need of updating but it was clean and tidy. A notice inside the room requested not to use towels, suggesting it would be better to use our own. I had on problem with that. The next day the towels had gone, the problem was sorted but I was under the impression the guests were supposed to nick the hotel towels!! ha ha

Overall, the location of this "hotel" is great. However, it's not even a hotel at all. First, the hygiene is horrible, I have actually seen the staff put the new towel on the floor when they were renewing guest's. Not only that, I found some "jumping small insects" on my bed. I suspected those might be lice (but I really not sure). Though the staff […] finally got me change to another room, I still found some similar things in the room but not on my bed. So I decided to tolerate for few more days. Not mention the noise, cracked wall, the stupid rules (not allowed to eat and not allow any visitor) in room and the dimness in room and reception, the security was not very secure. I stayed here for work and thought it was pretty good value (apart from breakfast which I skipped as it seemed over-priced). I booked a single and got a small double room with a good size bathroom up on the attic floor. we book 3 nights in the cavalier hotel and to say we were disappointed was an understatement!! The pictures on the web site are actually the pictures of the adjacent hotel which is owned by the same people. The first room we were put in was dirty, had loose stair banisters was damp and had bare wires coming out of the wall! We complained only to be […] moved to a room where the curtains were falling down, to be moved again into a famil room, which was ok. The receptionist offered us a room in the adjacent hotel which was where we had to eat, which was much nicer, only to be to that we had paid for the cavilier so we had to stay there!!! Well we got there to be informed by a lady (not sure whether she was another guest or member of staff) that we had to go next door to check in. We were 'greeted' by a lady on reception who proceeded to check us in - I imagine a bit like being checked into gaol. Seriously I have stayed in a lot of hotels and am quite accepting of most things but she […] was quite rude and I also wasnt sure whether she was being racist toward me when she almost spat the word 'white' at me, having never encountered anything like this before I was a little shocked. That aside, the room was lovely, apart form the list of 'rules' on the wall, no eating or drinking etc etc and the breakfast was lovely. Other staff members were lovely so maybe the lady on reception was having a bad day. There was building work going on at the time and this made things a little more difficult for the staff. We found the staff helpful and friendly and coping well running the hotel in the midst of a building site. Once the major work is finished the hotel will become very attractive. Some concern that there were wires, probably for the new fire alarm […] system, poking out of the ceiling in our room and also throughout the hotel. Two issues of concern that need to be addressed- a party that went on until 4am in close proximity to bedroom and finding the car park entrance locked when returning at 11am with no staff able to unlock it. Breakfast was excellent as too was the evening meal which we took in the restaurant. Staff were helpful, friendly and efficient. If we had need to stay in Birmingham again we would certainly seriously consider this hotel. Read more

I stayed only one night but found the staff helpful. The room key had to be picked up from the neighbouring Edgebaston Palace Hotel. The room was comfortable and everything worked as it should, therefore, for the price paid for the room I was pleased and would recommend this hotel to anyone on a budget.

Stayed at this hotel whilst visiting family in Birmingham. The staff were friendly, the room was clean and comfortable. Only one usable plug which was no where near a mirror so no good when trying to style your hair with straightners etc. Only had breakfast on the Saturday as did not feel it was good value for the money. On the menu is stated Kippers […] so I expected at least two fillets. I asked for Kippers and grilled tomatoes all I got was one small fillett and half a tomatoe which I felt was not good value for money (£7.50,) I would however stay here again because of it's location but would not have breakfast. We booked for the Cavalier House but we were assigned a room in the adjacent Edgbaston Palace, which is under the same ownership. Our room was in the older part of the hotel, but it had recently been renovated and the facilities were as expected for the price. The room was large and spacious, and it was well heated but not too warm. We had a twin room. […] One bed was normal single size but the other was very narrow, so the duvet tended to slip off during the night. We were on the front of the hotel and there was some noise from the road but not excessive. The bathroom fittings seemed quite new but they were not good quality. The basin plug could not be operated without fiddling with the mechanics underneath, and the shower head would not stay in an elevated position without being held. Breakfast was good with a choice of dishes cooked to order, and it was fair value for the price paid. Location was convenient, and there were good restaurants (especially Indian) within walking distance. Overall our stay was pleasant and we would consider returning to this hotel. Read more

I have used this hotel for two years straight for an annual business event. Each occassion was pleasant and offered an excellent value for the money charged. The character of my room for my second usage wasn't quite as top notch as the first one, but I also checked in quite late in the evening and I have certainly stayed in higher rated hotels whose […] amenities dont come close to what is offered at this one. The bed was super comfy, the view of the courtyard refreshing, and the bathroom was extremely modern and CLEAN. The shower on this occassion lacked water pressure. My last shower, however, was fine. Edgbaston Palace and Cavalier are 2 in 1 hotel. Although my booking was for Cavalier, I was given a room in Palace. I was very satisfied with everything except that it was very low water pressure in the shower.
