"not bad & out of way but no matter (cheap taxi's)"
Stayed for 3 nights in October of '12, it's a ways away from the places you really want to go to but taxi's are SUPER cheap here so jumping to a taxi and getting you to the center of downtown HK Island is roughly $6.50 USD. The internet is free sometimes and not other's but they let me slide in for free for a couple of minutes one day which was nice. […] Their housekeeping was very polite and helpful, they let me hold onto an iron and ironing board for a day and a half. I found all the neighborhoods in HK to look gloomy and beaten down so you'll never really get away from that wherever you stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

The Emperor Hotel fits all our needs, it is close to the trams, yet is in a very quiet corner of Happy Valley. Clean and with spacious bedrooms.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good for the night"
Stayed for a night, arriving very late en route to mainland. Generally service was good, room was rather small, was supposed to be for 2 people, and single bed unusually small, had to double up 2 beds to get good space. Breakfast was good, paid separately. Recommended for those visiting HK downtown.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Clean, quiet & comfort"
Great stay, free upgrade to bigger room. Free Wifi in room. Also provide shuttle to HKCC in the morning. It will be better if shuttle can be provided for picking up guests from Convention area. Overall a very good value for money and great front desk service.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very clean and tidy. Reception was pleasant. Hotel location convenient and I would stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Would definitely stay again"
I was visiting family in the Happy Valley area so this hotel suited me very well and was also good for local services including local cafes and restaurants for breakfasts, lunches and dinners. I found the staff to be very helpful and responded to any request l made happily and efficiently. The tram taking approx 15-20 minutes into HK centre is only […] around the corner together with taxi and bus services. In addition, the hotel does provide a very good complimentary shuttle service at various times in the morning & afternoon and taxis are also available from here. Walking into the centre is also an option, about 20 minutes, although can be very hot and sticky when temperatures reach in excess of 30 degrees. If you want a hotel that is a Iittle bit out of the hussle and bussle but still with good local amenities and easily accessible to the centre this is an ideal location. I would certainly stay in this hotel again.

Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great hotel and very convenient"
The hotel is super convenient - it's only one tramway trip away from the main hustle and bustle on Hong Kong Island (Causeway Bay, Wan Chai, Central, North Point, etc). The hotel also runs a shuttle in the morning and afternoon. The rooms are always clean and a decent size (considering it is HK). I always have a good stay at The Emperor Happy Valley Hotel.
"Still a Good Choice"

This is the latest in a long string of visits at The Emperor (Happy Valley) Hotel and it is still a great place to stay. First of all, location. You need to take into account that those who complain that it is "too far" or "inconveniently located" obviously know little about Hong Kong. If you want drunken brawls, bar hopping, red-light activities, loud noises 24/7, then Happy Valley is not for you. Happy Valley is a quiet, peaceful oasis in the middle of one of the most densely populated cities you can find. While there is no subway, a taxi takes about five minutes to Wan Chai and costs about $8. You can take a tram for about $1. Within walking distance is a variety of restaurants, a supermarket and many shops. I like that fact that hotel staff are like family. Everybody is nice and the hotel -- and rooms -- are well maintained and clean. Wifi works very well, but it does depend on room location. The one time I had an issue, reception helped with a room change where there was better wifi reception. The restaurant in the hotel is also good. I like the coffee shop the best as its cozy, comfortable and quiet. The food is very good, but the menu is a bit limited compared to the main restaurant's menu. It is also a bit expensive, but then this is Hong Kong so you just need to get used to it. Room prices are reasonable compared to inferior hotels in more centrally located areas. What you save in room cost more than makes up for a few taxi rides each day to Wan Chai. A place where you can save money and still find peace and quiet is rare in Hong Kong. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Good value for money and a restful stay is great.
"Good hotel, except for the location"
02/19/15 svet100 Bengaluru (Bangalore), India
I stayed at this hotel for a business trip. Everything was good about the hotel. Clean sheets, room was maintained well. They had a bath tub also, which is usually rare to find in Hong Kong Hotels. Best part was the widow sill. You can sit there and watch the Hong kong streets. Try to take one on something above the 10th floor. The view is much better. Staff was quite helpful. They also run a free shuttle to Times square. Only thing that I found a little problematic is the location. For business travelers, it takes almost an hour to reach the Quarry Bay, which is the main business district. Apart from that, this is a good hotel for anyone who is on a pleasure trip to Hong Kong and would prefer silent locality.
"Good and reasonable for Happy Valley"
01/26/15 bradSomerset somerset
Very reasonable and clean hotel in the centre of Happy Valley. Excellent staff and fantastic breakfasts for 70HK$ if you bought the voucher the night before with Chinese and Western food, eggs cooked to order and all you could wish for. The hotel is convenient for the trams to Central and Admiralty and Causeway bay. It is out of the way if you want to be on the MTR line but you get what you pay for!!
"Inconvenient & average comfort"
12/06/14 Paul B
We booked this due to the previous positive reviews vs the $ cost per night. My advice is to book somewhere better located even if you have to pay a bit more to save on travel time. Upsides - the staff are nice and efficient; the room was a good size and reasonably quiet. Downsides - It is too far from the subway so you need to take a tram or bus to make a connection; the bathroom is a little old and they don't supply handtowels or a bathmat; the bed was very hard.
"Good, but out of the way"
11/06/14 OverseasAmericans08 Shenzhen, China
This hotel is a very good hotel. The room was small, but not tiny. The furnishings were older, but not broken. The bed is harder than usual, but I slept well. There was a mini-fridge, which is helpful. When I was checking out, I had to sit downstairs on a couch while they checked the room before they could complete my checkout. While I was there, the doorman asked me repeatedly if I was leaving, could he get me a cab, etc. I didn't need one, but I thought his repeated attempts to help me were very kind. It is out of the way, though. There is a tram and a bus stop nearby, but definitely no MTR. Depending on the time of day/traffic, it might take a long time to get a taxi or bus and get down the hill. The purpose of my visit was to stay the night before my hospital admission at Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital. If you need to be close to that hospital, this hotel is super convenient, as it's right around the corner. There's a McDonalds, a German restaurant (I believe), and a Jason's Marketplace small grocery store all around the corner. I stayed on a non-smoking floor, but when I left my room in the morning, the hallway smelled very, very strongly like smoke. Someone on the floor was smoking. I'm thankful I couldn't smell it in my room! The room came with two free wifi codes, but because of how they set it up to connect to the internet, any time my phone locked when I wasn't using it, I had to reconnect through the whole process again. Sometimes it took several attempts to get the splash page to pop up to reconnect. I initially connected with my computer, and after it fell asleep, I was never able to connect it again. That was frustrating. An addition of a luggage rack would have been helpful. There was space for it in the room, and it would have been nice to have it to put my suitcase on instead of the floor.
"Ideal Base to explore the Island"
08/26/14 Jeremy4939 Towcester
The Emperor (Happy Valley) Hotel is a tranquil retreat, amid the dazzling skyscrapers of the Hong Kong being located in the premier Happy Valley neighbourhood on Hong Kong Island. There are 150 guest rooms and suites, traditionally designed for the discriminating traveller. The staff are friendly, inviting, and also efficient. Whether it is your first visit to Hong Kong, or you’re a seasoned traveller, you will feel right at home, while experiencing an unobtrusive and personalized attention. There are two restaurants in the hotel - first being the Golden Valley, Michelin Starred Restaurant, a quiet retreat from the jostling urban scene that features authentic Cantonese and Sichuan cuisine, prepared by award-winning chefs in a traditional Chinese setting. One can enjoy imperial Dim Sum and other regional specialities for lunch or dinner. Then the alternative is the Coffee Shop, where international cuisine can be found from 7.00 am and throughout the day and evening - everything from Western favourites to authentic Asian specialities. We nearly always venture out into the many nearby restaurants, where you will be spoilt for choice. Location of the hotel is ideal. It has nearby the legendary Happy Valley Racecourse, and the bustling Wan Chai and Causeway Bay entertainment and shopping districts, as well as near to the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre; Victoria Park; the Wanchai & Causeway Bay MTR Stations; The Lee Gardens; Times Square; Hong Kong Stadium; Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital ; Happy Valley Tram Terminus and the Central Business District, where the station for the Airport Express Train is located, a 25 minute journey, with only then a 15 minutes taxi ride to the hotel. This method of transportation to and from the airport will set you back a total of 145 HKD, as against a taxi to or from the airport in the region of 380 HKD. Alternatives can be arranged, by prior arrangement with the hotel, for a limo to collect or deliver you to the airport. The Hotel provides a complimentary scheduled shuttle bus service exclusively for guests running between hotel and the business, shopping and entertainment areas in Central, Wanchai and Causeway Bay. International Finance Centre (the Airport Express & Disneyland Lines), HK Convention & Exhibition Centre, 298 Computer Zone, Times Square, The Lee Gardens and Sogo Department Store etc. We found it very good value for money, particularly if what you are looking for is a base to explore Hong Kong from, thus requiring a comfortable clean bed in room to relax in. If you are looking for more of a western hospitality hotel, then this may not be the place for you.
"Great value unpretentious hotel hidden in Happy Valley"

"Nice In Spite of Location"
06/21/14 gdbill San Clemente
I've been at this hotel a few times and think it is above average for budget hotels in Hong Kong. One thing to consider, though, is the location. There is no MTR stop in Happy Valley so to get to the MTR you need to get a taxi or take a bus. Taxi to the nearest MTR station (Wanchai) is about $8. The hotel does have a nice restaurant and the food is quite good, but the menu is limited. Nearby restaurant choices are limited, but there are fast food outlets and a major supermarket within walking distance. The rooms are nice. They are not very big, but then smallish hotel rooms in Hong Kong are the norm. Service is excellent and staff is very friendly. Rooms are tastefully decorated and comfortable for two adults. If you have children, you should be looking elsewhere. Unlike other travelers, in my opinion I found no language barriers at all. Staff were helpful and easy to understand and communicate with. This hotel is far more relaxing than others located in more central areas.
"great city break"
The hotel is in general good. I had quite small room, but for solo traveller it was really enaugh. The only one thing in the room I did not like is the fact, thah I couldnt open the window. Very friendly staff including reception, restaurant, door man, house keeping etc... I liked the area in which is hotel situated. There was a lot of options to explore and it was only few minutes from the most bussy places.
