Much of the hotel is excellent - although the initial "welcome" and the hotel staff's offer for services or upgrades at the hotel was way over the top for an upmarket property. "Nice hotel, but hotel activities is just ok"
Overall the hotel is very nice and clean. Upon our arrival, the concierge sounds very professional. However, most of the info she provided was WRONG. 1st she told us on thursday night ALL restaurants will be closed because we will meet at ballroom for a "all together dinner and show". Both the dinner and the show was below average, and we later found […] out there's other restaurant open...we should have left the ballroom and head to the restaurant for dinner on our own. 2nd, she told us there's no water sport provided at the hotel!!! We later found out we can check out the boogie board AND we can go to Aquaworld for a free kayak rental because we are guest of Hyatt Zilara all inclusive guests. Man, if we didn't go there to check for kayaking tour, we wouldn't know. 3rd, on the Hyatt Zilara website, there's scuba diving school for the guest...when we check with the hotel, we were told the school will cost $110/person. Then why they didn't say so on the website instead they make it sounds like complimentary. All the shows were okay...I understand we are in Mexico and supposed to learn their culture...but I guess they can make it more fun and entertaining. Now the room. The insulation was bad...I got woke up 3 times a night by people talking outside. Traveled to Cancun for a quick birthday getaway over the 4th of July weekend. Had a wonderful experience at the Hyatt Zilara. I couldn't have asked for a better trip. "Beautiful hotel and beach, fair food, bad managers"
Beautiful hotel and beach , horribly managed hotel. For a short stay the " gourmet restaurants" aren't available until 9 or 10 pm. Food portions tiny and definitely not gourmet quality. Staff refused to help confirm our return taxi to the airport. When pressed , even after agreeing to pay 3 pesos for local call they obviously didn't want to help, we […] were ferreted from from desk to guest services to travel service and back to front desk. One of the restaurants was closed for most of our stay, jack hammers and gas operated pressure washers during the day for renovations. Beach/access to water closed in the mornings for ... The life guards not showing up.. And one day .... Even though the beach is wide,, swimming limited to a tiny 50 foot area in front of lifeguard. There was no rip tide or heavy surf.. We kicked out of the water,, told beach doesn't open until 8, then at 8 told 9,, at 9 told 930.. I was so very impressed with my stay at the Hyatt Zilara!!!! From the minute I arrived I was treated like a queen. My husband was also so happy saying he had never been treated so well at a check in. "Great hotel but bad transportation"
Landed in Cancun. Everything was going great until we got to the Best Day transportation area. Best Day employees were rude and had us waiting around. They had us line up by the vehicle we were supposed to travel to our hotel with and after standing there for 15 mins we asked the driver how much longer. He said we were not going with him so we asked […] the employee who told us to stand there what was going on because we were not going with that driver. Next thing we know the person started grabbing our bags and walked us to another vehicle and all of a sudden 1 of our bags was missing. They tried to act like we only had 3 bags not 4. Then tried hurrying us to leave to our hotel. They all started lying about not seeing us with 4 bags. We retraced our steps and got the airport police involved and after and hour our bag finally appeared. The bag had been broken into and gone through but nothing was taken because all there was in there was clothing. Also every morning of our stay do to Best Day being on site in our hotel they called our room phone around 7:45am...(every morning) some times twice...waking us up for the reason of trying to rebook our ride back to the airport even though we were there for 5 days an we had booked transportation back before we even left for the trip. "Great piece of paradise! A true escape."
2nd trip to this resort. Went for 3 nights with my wife and 5 other couples. We had a blast! Minus 1 star overall due to the super time consuming and incredibly annoying check in process. Right when you walk in there's a sign saying "Why Upgrade?" - that's your first clue. Sit down to check in: "Oh your king suite isn't available, how about an upgrade, […] only $100?" Why can't I have the room that I booked? "Well, because of Expedia." "And you can not go to this one certain restaurant (Chef's Plate I think), also because of Expedia." Once I plow through the embarrassment of sticking with my booked rate and getting 2 double beds, and declining the 90 minute breakfast timeshare meeting (which they specifically say is not a timeshare), then they pass you off to some host who wants to explain a vacation club and get you to fill out a card with personal information so that you can get some sort of a discount card which I guess is good for their partner properties nearby, but we never used it. I think we blew 45 minutes checking in - with NO LINES! Yeah I just spent half a day on air travel and ground transportation and I want to sit around getting upsold after arriving at our destination. After the anger from check in wears off it's the best resort I've ever been to. "Bring plenty of tips for the staff or no help"
We arrive to the hotel and were greeted by a friendly staff member who sent us to a Asain female to check us in who seemed to speak a word a minute, really annoying start. Than our room wasn't ready which was fine, but the room we booked wasn't available till the next day and than we could either change it the next day or just keep what they gave us, […] and I had to decide right on the spot. I decided to keep what they gave me as I was only there for a wedding for 2 nights. We put our luggage in a friends room and hit the pool immediately, asked for drinks from the first server we saw and after 45 mins he never brought them, so I asked another server and a half hour went by and still no drinks. At this point the place just went down to one of the worst hotels I've been too. Finally I went to the swim up bar and got my own drinks. I assume if I would have thrown money at the server I would have gotten some service, but at all inclusive I tip based on being impressed by service not to just get any. The rest of the trip was pretty ok with the service, the food was also ok. Maybe I'm comparing it to my last trip to the Iberostar Grand Bavaro in Punta Cana which was amazing all around. Although they have been taken over by Hyatt, the resort maintains it's characteristic Mexican charm. This was our second trip to the Hyatt Zilara (once as the Royal). The resort is amazing. Arrived on Wednesday before and room wasn't ready as check in wasn't until 3:00 so no surprise. We walked around for a while and found ourselves in the main bar. The check in was a little strange for Cancun, a nice surprise overall or we just got lucky cause once at the hotel they didn't try to bump us into a upgraded room or sell us trips or anything for that matter.
