This was our 4th time visiting Cancun and the Hyatt Zilara is by far the best resort we have ever stayed at. The whole resort is kept very clean (you see employees cleaning up all day long) . The food and drinks are awesome(not sure why some of the reviews said otherwise...I am picky BUT those negative reviewers are just not pleased with anything) . "Beautiful resort, Top-notch service, clean and fun"
We spent a week after Christmas 2013 at this resort and loved it. The rooms are amazing and everyone faces the ocean. The first room the gave us didn't have a great view because it was partially blocked by the resort next door. They moved us and were very gracious about it. The staff is amazing. They are all very polite and extremely helpful. The beach […] and pool areas are great. Always enough chairs and towels for everyone and they know how to keep the drinks coming. The food was good but not excellent. But I, like many other spoiled Americans, have very high standards. In particular, the beef could be better quality. The choices are plentiful and the food was fresh. The choices were plentiful and the freshness was not an issue. It is an all-inclusive resort and some of the restaurants require reservations. It can be tough to get a reservation at some of them and I don't like that, but it is not a problem unique to this resort. They have entertainment almost every night in the lobby area and it really exceeded my expectations. Dancing, singing, fire, cirque-type performances and more. We were there for New Years 2014 and the hotel put on a gala dinner and ball and it was a lot of fun. It was no extra charge beyond the all-inclusive rate. The location is great. It is on the best part of the beach in the hotel zone and is only about half a mile from the club zone. Make sure to go to Coco Bongo when you are there. So much fun. "Not worth the 4.5 Star Rating - Go Somewhere Else"
I was referred to the Royal from a friend of mine in the UK. I booked the room about six months ago and was very excited to take my mother, who had never been out of the country. At that time, the Royal was ranked #6 of hotels in Cancun and is now #63 and I can see why. First of all, the staff was amazing and the rooms were great. However, the menu […] had changed and we had a hard time getting reservations at the restaurants. We had specifically booked our room to enjoy the Chef's plate and when I called to make reservations, they said they were booked. Then we expected French - Mexican, when it was mediocre Italian. The buffet was bare and the food was bland. For a 4.5 star resort we expected more in regards to food. However, I think my biggest challenge was the drinks. They were watered down and there were no "specialty drinks". For a 4.5 star hotel, I expected a nice cocktail that would help me unwind my days. The house wine was pretty bad and I wouldn't drink it, and it was free! Hyatt you should be ashamed of yourself. The little things, from cheap chocolate (Hershey Kisses) at your bedside, instead of the truffles from the Royal and we couldn't get Mexican coffee at the coffee shop, it was a disaster. I have learned my lesson, no all inclusive's for me, as they are a rip off. No wonder the approval rating has gone down the drain since Hyatt took over. We will not be back. "Recent stay in Cancun"
We have stayed at this hotel several times. It was recently sold to the Hyatt. We found that the quality of the liquor went down. Some of the bars had top shelf and others did not. You really had to scout around to find a better quality of liquor. We thought the quality of the food was excellent, particularly if you like the fish. "One of Cancuns nicer hotels"
Having just changed management (from a Royal Property to a Hyatt) we experienced a few glitches but no majors disappointments. The population while we vacationed was mixed ages -Many couples. Food was a bit disappointing, simply due to variety. We had two rooms, which one tv did not work and randomly one or the other room wasn't cleaned certain days […] (although we were always out of the rooms by 8:30am for the day), mini fridges were stocked every other day and drink service outside was very slow. We left $5 per room per day for a tip and $1 per drink ordered every time. $1/person at the buffet and $10 for evening meals. Tipping did not appear to affect the type of service we received. The beach was wonderful as was the pool. We were quoted a discounted couples massage, although when all was done we were billed $159 for 50 minutes. I'm not certain that's a discount. Every single employee we had contact with was amazingly friendly and genuinely interesting in assisting anyway they could. We were the only couple to sign up for the Coco Bongo tour. Guide stayed with us a short time. I don't believe that was worth the $65 per person charge. You are responsible for finding transportation back to the hotel ($15 cab ride). "The ONLY place to stay in Cancun!!!"
This was our second time back to the Hyatt Zilara Cancun (it was THE ROYAL Cancun last time we were there). It just changed names, but it is still an AMAZING hotel! We love this place!! They treat you like royalty from the moment you arrive with champagne and cool towels. Every single staff member goes out of their way to make sure all your needs are […] meet all of the time. This time we had the hotel pick us up at the airport in their Navigator which was great and cost us the same as the best day shuttle that we usually take. Our room was beautiful as are all of the rooms with amazingly perfect views of the ocean. We love to spend our days just lazing by the pool and beach and love it that they wait on you and bring your drinks all day long. We also love the 24 hr lounge and coffee shop to pop in and gets snacks whenever we want. Many mornings we ordered the room service for Breakfast (which I feel is the best room service meal) and they wet it all up on your balcony for you for sweet little romantic breakfast with a view of the beautiful ocean. And at the restaurants, don't be afraid to ask for what you would like if you don't see it on the menu. Also LOVED the hammock on every balcony...a great place for an afternoon snooze! "Very noisy, stink of paint thinner in room"
We were really disappointed at the room and staff. When we entered the room at first, there was stink of thinner and couldn't stand any more. My wife felt unwellness. We asked concierge to change the room but she said all rooms has such a smell because of the maintenance. I asked her to change the room and finally we got another room. "Wonderful 25th Anniversary vacation"
We just got back from a ten day stay at the Hyatt Zilara (formerly Royal Cancun). So many great things to say....first off, the hotel is on a beautiful beach in the hotel zone of Cancun. The mattress on the first room was sagging and too soft. I asked the front desk about that, and they immediately changed it out with a firmer one. The rooms are beautiful, there is five types of top shelf alcohol in the room, and a small fridge with juices and sodas that are stocked daily. The food was awesome.....our favorite was Asiana. We went there for both lunch and dinners. Pelicanos at the pool side had wonderful waiters, okay food and was more casual if you don't feel like dressing up. The pool and beach cabanas are really great, but you have to get up early and claim your spot. Otherwise, there are plenty of loungers to use. This hotel is based on excellence. From the minor details it is impressive. The best part of the stay was the genuine treatment we received from the staff. The way I know it was genuine is my wife and myself actually met a couple of the staff members to watch a football game across the street from the hotel grounds. We got to talking about fishing and […] one member offered to take me to one of his fishing spots on his day off. Mind you these staff members only get one day off a week. He and his wife picked us up and we fished all morning, cought several fish and had a blast. They even took us to the local beach afterwards. They did not want money they were just genuinely gracious host. I was very impressed from this gesture. I got the same impression from the rest of the hotel staff. "DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL"
I made a reservation of hotel for one king bed room. And, I paid full 2 months prior to the arrival date, and I also received a confirmation email right after the payment. When I got to a hotel, the receptionist said that all one king bed rooms were already taken, and I need to pay additional cost to have one king bed room in a higher level. I understand […] that the rooms can be overbooked for some reasons. However, we booked and paid the room "2 MONTHS" prior to the arrival date. If the hotel knew that the rooms were overbooked and will not be available for us, then they should have informed us of the unavailability, so that we can cancel the reservation and look for a different place. And they had way enough time for the notification, but I received no information about that at all. In addition, the attitude of receptionist was also very wrong. For an hour, she just kept saying that the situation is not her fault and there is nothing she can do to resolve that. I did not have any apologies from the hotel and any feedback about how they will fix the problem in future. Everything about this hotel is amazing.... except the food. For such an expensive price tag attached to this place you'd figure the food should be as good. Definitely left something to be desired. Pelicanos was the best restaurant hands down. They serve Mexican food there now since the Hyatt took over. I ate there for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The […] only restaurants I tried were Pelicanos, Maria Marie, Asiana, and Spice so I can't comment on the other ones there. Now for the good news. The beach and the pool are amazing! I love how the pool is heated and I don't have to inch my way in lol. The waiters are awesome. They come around often no matter where you're sitting so you're never left without a drink. One day, we were sitting all the way at the end of the beach and the waiter still came around about 5 times :). Marco really stood out above all the other waiters. He is fast and very friendly. Housekeeping was on point. You pick the times that you want them to clean and when you want the turndown service. They still come around even if it passed the time you picked so you don't have to worry about not having your room clean. This hotel is also located near LA isla mall if you want to shop or eat at the restaurants over there. We tried La Pizzarra and it was good. Also, I recommend booking a tour to Xcaret. "Best bang for your buck!"
This hotel/resort is phenomenal. We have stayed here twice already. My only hope is that under the new name/management, the quality does not change (unless you can improve on phenomenal!) The location is very close to the airport, so you don't have to travel far. The beach access is practically right outside your door, with beautiful sand and water. […] The service is top-notch. They have a variety of places to eat. There are also tons of activities and shows that allow you to never have to leave the resort. We arrived on Monday, when the hotel was still the Royal. It changed to the Hyatt on Friday. The drinks were watered down. I actually saw the bartender try to serve me my drink with just cranberry and orange...no vodka. When I confronted him, he said he forgot! Enough negative...now the positive...We upgraded to a corner oceanview room. The room was large with a nice tub for 2 and a wonderful shower. Comfortable bed and stocked minibar. The pool is large and there are plenty of seats. Some days the water was too cold to go in. Would have been nice if it was heated. They have activities around the pool, and the waiter comes around often to ask if you'd like a drink. They even have someone just to clean your sunglasses....love that. The spa is very nice. I booked this hotel thinking I was staying at THE ROYAL, on the high recommendation of a friend. THE ROYAL did indeed live up to my expectations for ONE DAY. The 2nd day into my trip THE HYATT took over ...... and The Lush "Royal Imprinted" Towels are now Gone & replaced with small, low end towels, the wonderful "Royal" food (mexican/french fusion) […] is now gone replaced with a "nothing special" northern italian cuisine. We had 6 ppl in our group. The hotel was great if you are vacationing to relax and my friends who had never been to Mexico had a great time. The Royal Cancun was beautiful! However, we got there on a Wednesday and couldn't get dining reservations until Friday. They try and get you to go to the buffet all the time by slowing down the access to the other restaurants. I was VERY disappointed with this. I picked this Adult only and took 3 additional couples. We were willing not to eat together […] and still no luck. We stayed at Live Aqua last year which had very close to the same amount of people in the hotel and there were no issues getting into any restaurant you chose. (Overall the food was much better at Live Aqua.) We believe this has to do with them selling you on the "Gold Member", which was very close to a time share. This was very disappointing to us. However we do believe if we were a "Gold Member" we could have walked in any restaurants of our choice gaining easier access to the average food. In fairness, the presentation of the food was terrific... it was the taste which fell horribly short. Just a single example was a "Caprese Salad" which came with Cheddar Cheese and Spearmint in place of Mozzarella and Basil. If it had been an improvement I would not be mentioning it, but clearly it was a disconnect from what it should have been. Finally, be advised that the cab fares seemed to change regularly. In fact, even the guy at the front door would quote different prices from what was printed on the sheet they had. This took me back to the "old days" of traveling in Mexico... but not in a good way. "2013 Family Reunion in Cancun"
We had our 2013 family reunion in Cancun, Mexico. We stayed at The Royal in Cancun All Inclusive Resort for 7 days. We all had very good memory out of this reunion. The Royal facility is very good and impressive. The entry hall, the rooms, the pools and the beach are all very nice. The staff is very polite and professional. "Ok place to stay"
The hotel itself is beautiful but the place just kept letting us down. To start we got the Corner Suite so that we would have a beach cabana and more balcony. The extra balcony space stopped right in front of some one else's balcony and every day when we went down to our reserved cabana there was someone in it so we had to explain that it was ours and […] show them the room number. But why would you put your guests in that situation? They should monitor who is in the reserved cabanas we were fortunate there was not an incident even once the couple got a little snippy as they walked away. The other issue we had was the AC never got cold and our friends who had the next room over noticed that it was never blowing air like in their room. So next was the people that refilled the mini bar and snacks. We asked for extra tonic what and snacks (chips & peanuts) which we never got and then one night they did not even refill the snacks and it took two phone calls to finally get them up to the room to do so. For the most part we did enjoy the food. Nothing was mind blowing awesome but it was all ok or good. Chef's plate was a little disappointing. We did book Asiana one night and our tour bus was late getting back in so when I asked the front desk if we could get another time they said no with out even checking so we went to the restaurant and were able to get in. The resort was beyond our expectations. The staff were friendly, courteous, and helpful and wouod go out of their way to ensure we had everything we could have possibly needed. Stayed there for one week august 17-24 the weather was perfect the staff was perfect everything was perfect! The staff is really friendly and goes out of there way to try and help you out.
