"a good hotel for summertime"

"Why this hotel is not a 5 star resort"
We stayed in the bungalows. Architecturally very picturesque. What detracted from a 5 star hotel was the following: 1) rooms were clean; but maids would make enough noise on the floor above you to wake you up at 8:30; we had acquired excess towels from front desk/house keeping and the maids removed them; and there was broken glass on our patio when […] we arrived. I called the front desk. I finally got the glass removed the next day by showing it to the maids. 2) no conditioner, only shampoo. 3) The beach is full of stationary wooden umbrellas. They charge $3/day per person to sit under an umbrella. 4) Food beyond breakfast is the level of a cafeteria. 5) In my reservation I requested a ride to the airport. They told me it was a request and they would not honor it. They arranged for a cab to drive at the cost of 3 times the meter rate. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Got an enjoyable stay and good sleep in the hotel after a week's island hopping in Greece. Nice beach. Great breakfast buffet. The one thing to consider: Its a family hotel with a lot of kids of all ages whirling around. They don't have a shuttle to the airport nearby. You can catch a regional bus but pay attention: There is no bus service on Sundays […] - the hotel reception missed out to tell me this! I had to take a taxi to the airport and paid Euro 6 for a ride of just about 2-3 Km! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The whole experience was good. The hotel caters for families and wock if I had one. I paid for a room with a sea view but only had a view of a brick wall. The airconditioning doesnt work well as the wind would move the magnet off the door and it would stop it automatically. (they came to fix it but it kept on happening). Staff at the breakfast are amazing, […] very helpful and nice can't say the same thing about the reception staff, any request was answered with an attitude. The hotel is close to pythagorio, can easily walk it and facilities are great. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Bo i village-delen"
"Best serviceminded hotel ever!"

We travelled with Fritidsresor from Göteborg with our teenaged daughter. You don't have to use the bustransfer from the airport. Taxi is just outside to the left. It's faster and will only cost you 5€ and takes 5 min. The service at the hotel is fast and very good. The hotel is very clean. We had a room with a nice seaview in the mainbuilding. It was very functional and calm. Our daughter had a room on her own. This place realy suits anyone. It's very close to the beach and nice green areas. There is also a pool mainly for children. We just had B&B and the breakfast was nice with everything you need. We had lunch at the poolbar every day which had a good variety of food. You can also have drinks and food directly at the beach just by pushing a button at the parasol. A couple of nights we tried the buffe. It was good but perhaps a little overpriced if you not are on all inclusive. We also recommend to visit the "Greek evening" at the little square. Very good food and nice greek music and dance entertainment. One night we tried the new sushirestaurant Unan. It's fantastic. Don't miss it! The hotel is about 15 min from the small village Pythagorion with a nice small harbour and a lot of restaurants. We will clearly return to Samos and this very nice hotel. All nice staff makes this hotel amazing!

What a great hotel. Trendy interiors which are thoroughly cleaned, lovely child friendly pools (with life guard), and great beach service (food/drinks). Crystal clear blue sea which is great for snorkeling. The restaurant at the other end of the resort ("Tavern on the beach"?) was great for lunch too (brilliant when compared to some of the quite average restaurants in the harbour). But for me, it was the staff, and in particular those who served us at breakfast who made the stay so enjoyable (not all inclusive). Great service with smiles all round, and made a fuss of our kids too even though the youngest was a little shy :)
"Opt out of the all inclusive"
I enjoyed my stay at Doryssa. Despite very mixed reviews we decided to go for the all inclusive option. On the positive side kids can always go to the bar and get icecream and soda but the buffe food is really not worth the price you are paying. Pythagorian harbour is a 15 min walk from the hotel and has plenty of average restaurants. The hotel is really nice, a good pool, excellent service, comfortable rooms, plenty of activities for the kids. It is a perfect place for a lazy week.
"Lovely place to stay even if our room was over the bins"

We stayed at the Doryssa Bay Hotel for a week starting the 10th of July. We went with Thomson. I can thoroughly recommend this hotel. To start with it is a very short transfer from the airport. The planes are not a disturbance even though they are very close. The hotel itself is very stylish and the rooms are modern and comfortable. The aircon is free, very good and not too noisy either. The deposit box is also free to use. The beds are large and very comfortable. The hotel clientele is predominantly Scandinavian, Dutch, German and Italian. Very nice people. There were a lot of children but all were very well behaved. We were B&B and the breakfast is something to behold. A fantastic amount of choice and the service by the ever busy staff was superb. There was a lot of entertainment in and around the hotel. We were in a party of adults and chose to spend our days and nights around the harbour area. Go to the SUMMER TIME bar. A lovely place staffed and owned by equally lovely and attentive people. The hotel is a 5 euro cab fair from the town. It is also an easy flat walk. Lots to do in the town and the harbour is stylish and beautiful of an evening. Lots of choice for restaurants. If I had a couple of complaints about the hotel, they would be that you have to pay 3 euros for each sunbed on the beach at the hotel. Where as if you go into town there is a small beach on the other side of the harbour. There are a few tavernas that have their own little sections of beach. Use one of these and as long as you use the taverna the beds are free. You also get to watch the many comings and goings in the harbour. My other complaint at the hotel was having to pay 12 euros for an hours tennis. Considering the quality of the hotel I would have thought that this would have been free. I just hope they put the money to use and buy a new net and also get the cleaners to come and clear away all the empty water bottles that other users leave behind. A bin may be a good idea. All in all though, a lovely place to stay.
"Great hotel, lovely holiday"

We had a lovely week in this fantastic resort. The staff were excellent very professional and friendly, a particular mention to the village restaurant where the staff were superb catering for a gluten free diet. They provided gluten free breads, cakes and puddings for my friends daughter giving a personal tour of the buffet every night explaining waht she could and couldn't eat. Definitely go back again. only down side was no twin rooms available.
"Not a 5 star but a solid 4"
07/17/14 VilleRoimela Vaasa, Finland
Don´t let the headline fool you. This is really nice hotel, but if you have ever been in truly 5 star hotel, this one just isn´t it. Service was excellent all the time, housekeeping/cleaning very good. Food, we had two weeks all inclusive, was every time very good. Main restaurant has 7 different themes, so after 2 weeks you have had everything two times, but buffet har enough varitions that you don´t even notice that. Pool, this is family hotel so pool and pool area was crowded with kids, so if you want to take it easy, go to the beach and enjoy. Lobby bar was below our room, but that never bothered, almost no noise. Pros: Service, location, food (quality and variety both), beach, cleanliness, seaside rooms in main building Cons: Wi-Fi, yes it´s free but it is so slow that it´s almost useless. Staff in main restaurat (and badly planned buffet line, 1-sided when it shoud be 2-sided) can´t handle the crowd in peak season. Some times you have to stand in the buffet line for 10 to 15 minutes to get food (doesn´t feel like a holiday to me). Some times you have to wait 10 minutes to get wine, allready hafway throug the main course. Few times we got luke warm coffee after lunch etc. But I have to say, they tried their best and were very frindly and polite all the time. Lobbybar. Ordered two Metaxa, bottle was emtpy so older new? barkeep took from cabinet 5L plastic container of something?, etiquette didin´t look like a Metaxa (and it was very varm and not likely much alcohol in it because you feel it when it is about 40 proof) and he filled Metaxa bottle with that. Might be just ok, some bulk bottle of Metaxa, but do customers really have to see that? Little things like that shouldn´t happen in a 5 star hotel. Still I had a very nice holiday here and I would and will recommend this hotel.

All inclusive for a week. Food was great and different dishes at the buffet every day. Staff were very friendly and helpful at all times. I would like to thank George (hotel manager) all the professional staff in restaurant especially Giannis (chef cook ❤️) Captain Stavros (Asteria) and EVERYONE else working there for "Royal Treatment". We are very satisfied and will come back for sure//John "Jannis" and family ☀️
"Great beach and water quality"
07/03/14 Haukr Oxelosund, Sweden
Great location, comfortly close to the airport and right next to the beach. The beach is excellent, pebble stone and then sand when you get in to the water. The water quality is very good, clean and crystal clear. The beach is very well maintained and attended to by the hotel staff. Nice with the generous sun beds. Ok, they cost 3 E / day, but thats not a gigantic sum of money. If you don´t wish to pay, there are others – more simple- sun chairs to fetch for free next to the beach. It can be quite windy at the beach, but I thought that was rather nice as the heat then gets less intense. It was warm winds when we visited in june. Nice and modern rooms, but quite small. Big bathroom, though. Very good cleaning and new towels every day. We had a pool view room, and it was quite a lot of noise from the lounge bar until late at night some of the evenings (strange for a family style hotel?). We had booked full board and the food was ok – nothing more, nothing less. Great breakfast, but then pretty much the same dishes for both lunch and dinner. You quickly get bored, but it´s an easy way to keep the kids happy and keep some stable family mood because of the predictibility of the meals. Maybe the hotel could work on the menus a little bit, though. Beautifully kept hotel premises with gardens and small alleys and squares. Small pool area, quickly crowded. But why use the crowded pool when there is such a fantastic sea right next to you? Our family used the beach and the sun beds there as a ”base” and then took some quick pool trips from there occasionaly. Regarding the staff, it was generally very nice and proffessional. I specially appreciated the restaurant staff. However, in the bars (the pool bar and the lounge bar), the staff was quite uninterested in the full board guests. It was pretty much a quick grin and hand out the food/beverage with the elbow. Nothing rude or inproffessional, just the feeling the guest gets. So some of these persons might need to work some on their attitude. The conclusion is that Doryssa is a good hotel with some minor issues to work on. I felt Samos was a very beautiful island and the people there were very nice to tourists. They are open, welcoming and easy to talk to. Of course they are proud of their island, and I can recommend the city of Pythagorion with more varied restaurants and also to to a trip with Captain Andreas and his tame goat (!) to the island of Samipoula (fantastic, sandy beaches).
"Doryssa Halfboard vacation with a baby"
As a couple we used to travel mostly on fly&drive basis, moving around all the time, exploring, so we were a bit scared of what to expect on our first vacation with a almost 8 months old baby. However, Doryssa Seaside Resort staff made an effort to take care of everything so great, that it was an awesome experience for all 3 with no worries and stress whatsoever. Reception and check-in: Perfect greeting with smiles and since we arrived much to early to have our room ready, the beautiful and kind Anastasia gave us clear instructions on where to leave luggage, get our beach towels, go to the beach, restaurant, ... And the room was anyways ready 2 hours before the official check-in, so we had a nice and full first day and all others, too. Water heater and baby bed were provided immediatelly in the room, both brand new and clean. Rooms: We stayed at the hotel in order to be close to all the facilites. ~ For an evening silence take a room with seaview/pool, since rooms on the back of the hotel overlook the amphitheatre where evening/night music events occur and if your baby isn't a disco late night dancer, you would want a room away from that noise. Check if your room has a balcony, otherwise you might be forced to an early sleep together with your baby. ;) ~ There is a device for keeping the mosquitos away in every room, though you have to buy the tablets for it yourself (in the village shop). ~ Rooms are cleaned perfectly, with plenty of towels and doryssa shampoos/bath gel/body milk. The cleaning ladies are doing a superb job indeed! Beach: ~ big beach towels: you get them on the first day at the beach house (baby also gets one) and you can change them every two days, +++ the best thing (and a rare one in Greece!) is a nice huge lawn between the beach and the swimming pool/hotel, which offers plenty of tree shade throughout the day. We put the big towels on the ground and made a big playground for our crawler. Plus you can take sunchairs free of charge and use them on the lawn too. Just do not forget to put them back afterwards, as sadly quite a lot of illiterate guests did when we were there, ++ the beach is nice pebbly and sandy with perfect access for children, the sea is crystal clear though was a bit cold when we were there (21 degr but getting warmer), still our 8-monther swam like a fish in it, so no problem there. ~ beach sunbeds will cost you 6€/2 beds + umbrella, and have a callbutton to the pool bar, ~ from what we observed the water sports offer is ok, water skiing was quite popular. Swimming pools: ~ one for swimmers (max depth 3m), maybe a tad small for the capacity of guests the resort accommodates though suprisingly never too crowded, ~ one for kids/babies: great because of large sunumbrellas which offer shade to the baby pool through the day, --- the most annoying thing regarding the baby pool caused the guests really: eventhough it is clearly written on infoboards that babies have to wear swimming diapers, lots of parents did not respect that rule, so once a day there was a "small baby accident" as the pool guy kindly told us when they had to close the kids pool and clean the water... If you forget to bring the swimming diapers, you can buy them in the "old village" shop or in Pythagorion town. Restaurants: ~ in order to serve all-inclusive and halfboard guests accordingly, the first eat in the hotel restaurant and the hb guests in the village restaurant, however both are within the complex of main building and we did not see any difference between the staff attitude towards hb or allinclusive guests, ~ both are neat and spotless, though we found the village one (hb guests) nicer and cosier, ~ they both offer same food, +++ we were on halfboard and recommend it sincerely, since the pool bar (Thea's coffee shop) and the Asterias beach restaurant which is also situated within the resort, offer really yummy food with different flavours than the htl restaurants. For us it was nice to explore the greek cuisine in different places, so once we changed dinner to lunch in htl restaurant and ate dinner in Pythagorion. The change dinner/lunch has to be announced at reception till 11am same day at the latest. All in all, tasty and wonderful food in the htl restaurants, Thea's caffe pool bar (all daily specials are awesome) and Asterias, so try them all. ~ We could easily find something for our daughter in htl restaurant (lots of vegetables, meat, side dishes, fruit, salads... and for the sweet tooth quite a palette of pastry and icecream), +++ the shinning star of every morning and evening were definitely Jannis, the always smiling, welcoming and helpful village restaurant manager (maitre d'hotel) with his professional staff. Kalliopi, Stavroula and Manolis were the three we had been in contact with the most, and they were the best. Chatting friendly with us when we wanted to, giving us privacy when we were not chattery and being genuinely kind to our baby, making her laugh, providing us with hot water for her food, etc. Except from the lady who was supposed to be assistant maitre d'hotel and was cold and seemed like she was actually annoyed with the guests and was snapping to personnel, everyone else was firendly, hardworking and doing their work professionaly. Thumbs up! - As we already made a suggestion live, it would be nice to have a "live omelette" making with optional ham, cheese, veggies, etc. at breakfast, - it was annoying that all dishes were not equipped with cards with names of the dish beside the big serving pots, especially since it is so thing to take care of this, - some of the guests did not know they have to wait to be seated at bfast/dinner, so a counter or at least a kind note somewhere visible would be nice in order to avoid double occupation of the same table on the terrace. Other: ~ kids' playground in the resort is nice, due to the fence it is closed and safe, has tree shade and artificial grass on the floor, so it is quite nice also for small babies to crawl around, ~ one of the tourist agencies has popular kids mascots (Bamse&friends) in the resort, which walk around and accompany animation events for kids. The mascots are really nice, and the young animators too, except for the red clown who has a long bored face through the day, looks totally uninterested when in contact with children. He performs well however at the short clowns evening show. Otherwise animators seem warm, kidsfriendly and involved in what they're supposed to do, ~ when you head to the town: sidewalk on the road to the Pythagorion town is quite bad, so it can be a bumpy ride for a baby in stroller plus in the night the road lights are poor, so watch your step (taxi doryssa-town costs 4€-5€, reception will kindly call it for you, in the town they're parked on the main street). All in all we spent a wonderful holiday at Doryssa thanks to all the staff (visible and those working behind the scenes - gardners, cleaners, cooks, laundry, service, management and all others), nice resort architecture, greenery and location. Would recommend it for sure!
