My husband and I stayed at the Bahia for 6 nights and 7 days. The hotel is great for the price and the view was breathtaking from our room but not all rooms have the same view. "Very clean, very structured"
This hotel is very clean and organized. Probably too organized. I have never been to a resort where I had to beg for towels and wash rags. They provided for 2 when where I booked and paid for reservations for 3. There are very few activities for kids. "All-exclusive not inclusive"
Not a pleasant greeting , room not ready at check in time. People trying to sell us some sort of time share like thing. When we finally got to our room there were no towels and it took them two hours to bring any. Tips were an expected thing among their staff. When they advertise stocked bar fridge, they meant two beers a day and this was not an all […] inclusive you could get drinks and food all the time. The buffet ran out of food before the times were done. The first night our hotel room shower flooded our room so much that we had to be moved to another room. During the week we attended my daughters wedding down the road at another resort that had staff that were much friendlier than ours and at no time did we see anyone getting tipped for service. "Rude Staff and Corner Cutting"
Pros: Beautiful Pool; Close to Ocho Rios; Great Beach Access Cons: Unfriendly and Unhelpful Staff; Zero Internet Access; Never Any Beach Towels; A La Carte Restaurants Never Available Honestly, although the hotel itself is quite nice, the rude staff and corner cutting are really discouraging. We were told that the a la carte restaurants were completely […] booked yet every time we walked past them to the buffet each restaurant was empty (or had very few guests). It was absolutely impossible to get internet access. There is only "free" WIFI in the main lobby but it is very slow and near impossible to use. Every staff member we came into contact with was extremely rude save one and there were never any fresh beach towels at the towel stand. On top of that, our room was consistently missing necessary amenities or our mini fridge was not re-stocked. When we called down for shampoo (because there was none in our room upon arrival), we were treated poorly and the staff complained. Overall, I DO NOT recommend this experience. "Huge resort, not enough staff, leaky ceiling"
The resort is nice but is very very big. You have to walk pretty far to get to everything. They had 4 restaurants but only 1 was open on any given night and when we arrived on a Tuesday there was no availability for a dinner until Saturday!!! So we were stuck eating the buffet food which wasn't awful but it's robbery to have the restaurants and not […] be able to dine in them. The beach by the pool was man made and rocky. So if you wanted to keep your things near the pool and go back and forth it wasn't happening. The nicer beach was on the other side of the resort, a 10 minute walk away, but you were far from any entertainment. The room was nice but unless you pay for a view you are staring out at a white concrete wall. Also I had a leak in my room from the ceiling that they never fixed, they only mopped it up every day, which is unacceptable. I guess they figure unless you throw a fit they will keep you in a room with a leaking ceiling. Other than that the majority of guests were Canadian. We originally booked the upgraded room with jetted hot tub. This room over looked the front parking lot and the hot tub was outside. We asked to be switched to a room with a better view, we didnt need a outside hot tub as the jetted tub in the bathroom was large enough for 2. We took advantage of the onsite dive shop and dove 4 morning 2 tank dives and loved all of them. The dive master was great, he even helped me figure out my new under water camera. The sandy beach on the point had a perfect breeze every day, they have rest rooms and a bar out there so if you enjoy the beach and peace and quiet head out there. Bring your own snorkle gear and there is great snorkling right there. We have stayed at many all-inclusive resorts mostly in Mexico, this was by far the nicest. The food was great and sp much to choose from. I suggest masking your restaurant reservations before you go or you may only be able to get in about 9 pm. I also recommend bringing your own old beach towels that you can leave, as it was hard to get clean beach towels. I took advantage of the spa for one if their specials, coconut scrub and coconut oil massage and loved it. The staff was great, but do remember you need to tip once you do they will remember you and what you like. I would love to go back, we never left the resort all week except to dive. We have been to MANY all inclusives throughout Dominican Republic and Mexico but this was our first trip to Jamaica. This was probably one of the nicer of the resorts we have been to! We absolutely loved the resort. Many individuals were pushy and demanding of tips however which was a bit rude... Also they could use an upgraded nightly entertainment […] staff/shows--- it was obvious the Harmony dance group had an A and B team and the B team shows were lacking! "Gran Bahia Principe - I wouldn't recommend"
My husband & I were disappointed. The hotel was delayed in checking us in. We had to wait in the heat with no food or refreshments while they tried to get our room ready. By the time we completed that process it was after lunch & before dinner time & we had no place to get a bite after a long day traveling. Then the room wasn't what we booked - it was […] 2 double beds instead of the king we booked. The shower head was broken & there were no wash cloths in the room & minimal towels. The next day they did switch us to a king room, but we had to waste half our day getting that organized. If a tour guide at the hotel didn't help us we would have had to wait longer because the front desk staff were not in a hurry to help us. We had to haul our luggage to their storage facility until we got in a room. At no point did the front desk try to assist us with our luggage except to tell us where to drag it to. I requested wash cloths & additional towels on several occasions but the hotel was out of clean wash cloths until day 3 of our stay. Some days the towels were not changed because they were no clean ones to replace them. The hallways off the hotel rooms are carpeted but the windows left open which allowed rain to come in. Thus, most of the carpet in the halls smelled like mildew. We were also solicited several times a day to join the hotels program which seemed very similar to a time share at their other hotels. We were there from Sept 2 thru 10. It was fabulous from our arrival. We had upgraded prior to arrival to the Don Pablo suites. The restaurants were great as well as the pools. We did not do any excursions, we were lazy and stayed poolside each and every day. Loved it! The waitresses and waiters at the pool were exceptional. We had booked two double beds and when we got there we were told we were "upgraded" to the Golden Club. Turns out the upgrade was they had no rooms left with two double beds and we ended up with a king bed. Not ideal for two single girls, but we made it work. The view from the room was great and we got 30 minutes of free internet a day. Not much else […] included in the upgrade. They could have just been honest from the start. The food was amazing at all of the restaurants. The pools are really nice and there is plenty of beach if you want to swim in the ocean. Resort is very quiet for sleeping. "Does not carter for locals"
If you are not a part of the privilege club do not attend this hotel. This hotel has a privilege club that cost $25,000. There are several restaurants, room service, and a big pool with a bar in the middle, but you are not allowed to use them if you are not apart of their privilege club. 3/4 of their services are only for the privilege club. My experience: […] my husband lives in Jamaica and I live in Florida, when we went to check-in the security guard stopped us at the gate and told us our names were not on his list. 20 minutes later he allowed us to go to the front desk to find out what was happening. First we could not find a parking spot, we were told that the front area was for the managers. When we went to the desk they told us they did not have a reservation under our name, this was very embarrassing. We got our computer, and I checked my email, and showed it to them. The receptionist checked again and still said our name was not there; he then entered my last name as my first name and found it. He later apologized and one of the managers spoke with us. We had to park our car in the garage that smelled like a sewage. When the employees realized we were from Jamaica there was a difference in their approach. Overall I truly believe, that this hotel is not for local Jamaicans. If you are not apart of their privilege club you are not offered most of their services. The hotel looks nice on the outside. The rooms are a nice size, but overall our seven days stay was very disappointing. It started when we got out room key. The keys wouldn't open the door. My husband went to the front desk they took the keys from him, and said they would send someone up. After waiting 30 min to get into our room. I went back to the […] front desk to see what was hold up. Finally a maintenance person showed up. Banged on the door, not using a key or any type of tool, then the door opened. After getting in the room there were no towels in the bathroom. Called front desk again. After 3 more calls, and waiting almost three hours someone showed up with two sets of hand towels, two sets of bath towels, but no wash cloth. After two days we finally got two wash cloths. The room had extra pull out bed from the previous guests. I had to call to get it removed. Couldn't tell if the bed linen was fresh or left from the previous guest. The food was horrible, and always cold. The lines at the buffet restaurant was always long for no apparent reason. Lots of empty table but the guests weren't being seated. They would run out of food one hour or so before closing. So if you did not eat early, there was no food left for you to eat. Entertainment was the worst I've ever seen. "Looks can be deceiving...."
My girlfriend and I arrived to the resort and immediately said "Paradise". Checked in with no problems, go to the room with a nice view of the pool and beautiful palm trees. Walked around the resort and knew we were going to love it. We had to call to get what we were suppose to already have, washcloths. The tub had leakage and every time we showered, […] that also leaked. So you can imagine how many towels were used. We wanted to use the safe to store all of our valuables, we found out there was a daily charge of 6 dollars (I thought safes were free to use in hotels). The hotel staff always took long to come to the room. The room overall was very comfy, we would lay in the bed and would fall asleep in minutes. The buffet staff was so helpful and the food in the buffet was delicious. There was also a place to eat on the resort called "Sand Bar" the jerk chicken was amazing along with the music being played by the live band. The pool was a nice setting, never had to worry about anyone being on top of you because it was large enough to occupy everyone. The bartenders were nice, just felt there should have been more rum than just Appleton Rum being served. The restaurants on the resort that you have to make reservations for, were all mediocre. All the staff around the resort would automatically greet you and were very nice. The fact that they allowed people to constantly harass you while on the resort to buy time share was absurd. My wife and I were part of a group of 4, who had 3 separate rooms. We switched rooms once so that's a total of being exposed to 4 different rooms. The grounds of this property is beautiful. If you do not plan on being in your room at all, and never need to call Housekeeping, then this is an okay place to stay. Housekeeping is totally non-responsive […] and the rooms all feel muggy. The bathrooms are in need of some TLC and for whatever reasons, housekeeping has decided not to place hand towels, nor soap, in any of the rooms. Good luck with calling housekeeping to get some replaced. The guest service downstairs is great and very welcoming. We met several great employees who did their best to make us feel welcome.
