"The beach is gorgeous"
The beds are hard, but look beautiful. The bathroom and shower doors would NOT close in three of our rooms (8 ppl traveling together). Only A/C IN your room if you a lucky one. "Beautiful Mega Resort"
We enjoyed our stay. My only complaints are that they didnt provide towels and we had to keep calling to request them. The air conditioning wasn't working well either. The service technician did arrive promptly to try to repair it, but it never really got cool enough. Also, you have to keep key card in the slot to run the power to the room resulting […] in the room staying hot while we were away, taking longer to cool upon our return. You have to pay for the safe in the room, $6USD per day. This has always been included at any other resort. Free Wifi for 1 hour per day, but only in the lobby.The food was excellent considering the large quantities due to the buffet style. Beautiful property and private beaches. "Bigger is not always better"
When I arrived the receptionist was unpleasant. She didn't give me my wristband or welcome beverage. I received both the following day. The air conditioning was not working at all in my rm and the toilet bowl ran all day. After calling the operator multiple times nothing was done. "Perfect Beach, Location, Pool..."
From the moment we arrived (early) we were treated like royalty. We have been to many all-inclu but never had the special treatment like this before. Front desk remembered our names, and we got a fab ocean front room (21304) with a huge covered balcony near dining too. Snorkeling here was great at both beach areas. Food was delicious and variety was […] offered. Rum drinks were STRONG. Room was adorned with fresh flowers and plenty of towels, toiletries ect. We do tip... the maid $5/day, bartenders $1, servers $2-$3 and it ensures that you have a delightful time. We never had a problem getting fresh beach towels or seating at the pools/beach areas like many other resorts. Grounds and hotel were spotless but a few areas could be repainted. Staff was helpful. Eat lunch at the open air beach café for wonderful jerk chicken. We never booked a dinner reservation but rather ate the buffet at our leisure. This hotel is better than a lot of other hotels in the area, but there are maybe one or two other hotels that out rank it. I paid $18.75 USD to add local/ international minutes to previously purchased digicell phone and still had value available after six days of calls/texts. Its much cheaper to take a local taxi off property ( in one instance $8.50 USD versus $120 USD) but would ensure that the taxi is legitimate and bears the appropriate tags indicating this. this hotel appeared nice from the outside I first room they were items missing such as coffee maker share alarm clock remote control for the television and it was located on a corner section on the first floor building B at night it was quite noisy after the night club let out. The second day we asked to change rooms and were told would have to wait […] until 3 p.m. the second room with a given was located of the heart lobby hallway in front of elevator and a set of stairs and was also quite loud and noisy. We went back to the front desk and told him that this was unacceptable. the third room we were given it was a slight upgrade with the jacuzzi that did not work out on the balcony also two of the three shower heads in the room were broken. There was a mat of hair on the shower wall. The hotel staff was fairly friendly and seemed to lack professionalism. Food was pretty good. Always a line for jerk chicken during lunch. Never any beach towels available at the only 1 towel hut. Went 2 whole days witbout a new fresh towel. Beach was ok but a decent 1/2 walk from hotel room. Pesky Rasta men trying to sell you trinkets and drugs from their kayaks on the booey line. Have stayed at Secrets in Montego Bay a year prior. A lot better stay. You definitely get what you pay for. This hotel is very clean and organized. Probably too organized. I have never been to a resort where I had to beg for towels and wash rags. They provided for 2 when where I booked and paid for reservations for 3. There are very few activities for kids. Not a pleasant greeting , room not ready at check in time. People trying to sell us some sort of time share like thing. When we finally got to our room there were no towels and it took them two hours to bring any. Tips were an expected thing among their staff. When they advertise stocked bar fridge, they meant two beers a day and this was not an all […] inclusive you could get drinks and food all the time. The buffet ran out of food before the times were done. The first night our hotel room shower flooded our room so much that we had to be moved to another room. During the week we attended my daughters wedding down the road at another resort that had staff that were much friendlier than ours and at no time did we see anyone getting tipped for service. "Rude Staff and Corner Cutting"
Pros: Beautiful Pool; Close to Ocho Rios; Great Beach Access Cons: Unfriendly and Unhelpful Staff; Zero Internet Access; Never Any Beach Towels; A La Carte Restaurants Never Available Honestly, although the hotel itself is quite nice, the rude staff and corner cutting are really discouraging. It was absolutely impossible to get internet access. There is only "free" WIFI in the main lobby but it is very slow and near impossible to use. Every staff member we came into contact with was extremely rude save one and there were never any fresh beach towels at the towel stand. On top of that, our room was consistently missing necessary amenities or our mini fridge was not re-stocked. When we called down for shampoo (because there was none in our room upon arrival), we were treated poorly and the staff complained. Overall, I DO NOT recommend this experience. "Huge resort, not enough staff, leaky ceiling"
The resort is nice but is very very big. You have to walk pretty far to get to everything. They had 4 restaurants but only 1 was open on any given night and when we arrived on a Tuesday there was no availability for a dinner until Saturday!!! So we were stuck eating the buffet food which wasn't awful but it's robbery to have the restaurants and not […] be able to dine in them. The beach by the pool was man made and rocky. So if you wanted to keep your things near the pool and go back and forth it wasn't happening. The nicer beach was on the other side of the resort, a 10 minute walk away, but you were far from any entertainment. The room was nice but unless you pay for a view you are staring out at a white concrete wall. Also I had a leak in my room from the ceiling that they never fixed, they only mopped it up every day, which is unacceptable. I guess they figure unless you throw a fit they will keep you in a room with a leaking ceiling. Other than that the majority of guests were Canadian. We originally booked the upgraded room with jetted hot tub. This room over looked the front parking lot and the hot tub was outside. We asked to be switched to a room with a better view, we didnt need a outside hot tub as the jetted tub in the bathroom was large enough for 2. We took advantage of the onsite dive shop and dove 4 morning 2 tank dives and loved all of them. The dive master was great, he even helped me figure out my new under water camera. The sandy beach on the point had a perfect breeze every day, they have rest rooms and a bar out there so if you enjoy the beach and peace and quiet head out there. Bring your own snorkle gear and there is great snorkling right there. We have stayed at many all-inclusive resorts mostly in Mexico, this was by far the nicest. The food was great and sp much to choose from. I suggest masking your restaurant reservations before you go or you may only be able to get in about 9 pm. I also recommend bringing your own old beach towels that you can leave, as it was hard to get clean beach towels. I took advantage of the spa for one if their specials, coconut scrub and coconut oil massage and loved it. The staff was great, but do remember you need to tip once you do they will remember you and what you like. I would love to go back, we never left the resort all week except to dive. We have been to MANY all inclusives throughout Dominican Republic and Mexico but this was our first trip to Jamaica. This was probably one of the nicer of the resorts we have been to! We absolutely loved the resort. Many individuals were pushy and demanding of tips however which was a bit rude... Also they could use an upgraded nightly entertainment […] staff/shows--- it was obvious the Harmony dance group had an A and B team and the B team shows were lacking! "Gran Bahia Principe - I wouldn't recommend"
My husband & I were disappointed. The hotel was delayed in checking us in. We had to wait in the heat with no food or refreshments while they tried to get our room ready. By the time we completed that process it was after lunch & before dinner time & we had no place to get a bite after a long day traveling. Then the room wasn't what we booked - it was […] 2 double beds instead of the king we booked. The shower head was broken & there were no wash cloths in the room & minimal towels. The next day they did switch us to a king room, but we had to waste half our day getting that organized. If a tour guide at the hotel didn't help us we would have had to wait longer because the front desk staff were not in a hurry to help us. We had to haul our luggage to their storage facility until we got in a room. At no point did the front desk try to assist us with our luggage except to tell us where to drag it to. I requested wash cloths & additional towels on several occasions but the hotel was out of clean wash cloths until day 3 of our stay. Some days the towels were not changed because they were no clean ones to replace them. The hallways off the hotel rooms are carpeted but the windows left open which allowed rain to come in. Thus, most of the carpet in the halls smelled like mildew. We were also solicited several times a day to join the hotels program which seemed very similar to a time share at their other hotels. We were there from Sept 2 thru 10. It was fabulous from our arrival. We had upgraded prior to arrival to the Don Pablo suites. The restaurants were great as well as the pools. We did not do any excursions, we were lazy and stayed poolside each and every day. Loved it! The waitresses and waiters at the pool were exceptional.
