Sprowston Manor, A Marriott Hotel and Country Club - Norwich

This is a nice, comfortable Marriot set on a beautiful golf course and convenient to all attractions in Norwich. The staff stood out: extremely friendly, warm and solicitous. They turned a pleasant stay into a joyful stay.

We were extremely pleased with our stay at Sprowston Manor. It is about a 5-10 minute drive from the city center and is very impressive as you come down the front drive to the hotel. We had a family room with a queen bed and a pull out couch. The room was big, divided into two areas. We had a big beautiful bathroom that was very clean. There is also […] a pool. Just be aware if you have kids that they are expected to stay in the "kids area" which I didn't see posted. I really enjoyed my stay at Sprowston Manor. It's a great place with wonderful surroundings, very good leisure facilities - the pool is even big enough to swim- and excellent service. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The room looked tired and lacked space for clothing that didn't go on hangers. The toilet bowl was cracked and the seat had seen better times. The staff at reception was less than friendly but the staff in the dining room at breakfast were excellent. The hotel looks fantastic, the surroundings are beautiful. The leisure facilities seem quite adequate although if I had booked a spa break I would have expected something a little more luxurious and private as the were next to reception and used by locals with membership. The locals that I saw were really quite argumentative regarding the use of the […] pool so the experience for me wasn't relaxing at all. The pool wasn't big enough in my opinion to be used for fitness as they required and a local public bath would have been more suitable for their needs. The room itself looked very nice, large with a super king bed however, the heat was ridiculous, I spent most of the night throwing water in myself and outside trying to cool down so I had virtually no sleep. The pillows and quilt were uncomfortable too as they were feather and I am not a fan. The food was really pricey so we went into Norwich to eat but the breakfast was brilliant, buffet style with everything that you would expect, English, Continental, cereals, jams etc. overall, if they installed air conditioning and brought the prices down a bit I would return but until they do that , I do not plan to visit them again. Lovely hotel, good value for money. I would recommend booking the resturant for an evening meal when booking the room or at the latest when checking in. We had booked a table in the resturant & food & service was very good. Other guests just turning up to eat later were disappointed to have to wait a while for their food - what do they expect when everything […] is cooked fresh to order & the resturant is busy? This was a one night stay away from home and a little romantic getaway minus our two year old son who stayed with nanny. We get away once every 3 to 4 months just for a night and have tried a few hotels now, we literally go for the peace and quiet and mostly stay in the room relaxing so alot of planning goes into the choice. On arrival sprowston is […] a very lovely looking old world building surrounded by golf course and reception is bright and modern. Receptionist very helpful and friendly. Our room we had a studio suite overlooking the grounds which was nice. Nice big room a lounge area separated by an open beamed partition big tv a chair and sofa which maybe could do with updating but was comfy enough.... Huge bathroom separate bath and shower very clean shower was a little disappointing as it wasn't very powerful but still nice. Comfortable huge pillows and nice comfortable bed. We ate lunch and dinner from room service the menu was nice and catered for most tastes. We opted for Cobb salad ( gorgeous) and homemade pizza and fries (large portions and all tasty) and delivered within 20 mins but this was a week day afternoon. Dinner was a burger and fries and I chose the Cobb salad as hubby had said how nice it was earlier. We treated ourselves to desert crowne brûlée and cheesecake both amazing and all delivered within half hour. Could not fault the food. The room was a little stuffy as no air con and were guessing cos the main lights stated on outside the hotel is the reason we had a dawn chorus at 130am! Lol oh and the laughing ducks at about 4 but obviously this is nothing to do with the hotel but maybe some double glazing to drown this out as this is the only reason we had a rubbish nights sleep. Absolutely beautiful hotel with very nice and helpful staff. If I really have to find a flaw is the lack of signs for the gym, changing rooms, etc... and the fact that we got woken up at 4 am by some load guests: as there was a wedding reception going on, it would have been nice if the hotel put all the wedding guest in one area of the hotel.

The hotel was conveniently situated for Norwich with a park & ride bus service two minutes away and a 24-hr supermarket. The only real negative for us was related to the spa; the changing rooms were dirty (Sat early evening/Sun morning) with the same clumps of hair in the shower and paper on the floor; the second issue was the way the jacuzzi was used […] by two 'gentlemen' for over an hour on the Friday evening we arrived - due to their loud character we avoided going in... very disappointing as this was the main reason we chose this hotel and paid the extra to stay here.
