Stayed at the shanghai mansion for four nights. the room was very dark, no windows, very damp and there were small ant like insects crawling all over the counters, walls and sink. location was great right inside chinatown, but that likely the only positive.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"I'm 'lovin' it"
Really enjoyed this place. The staff are awesome and the hotel was very peaceful. I wanted to chill for a bit so having a fridge full of complimentary drinks and snacks as well as a TV that showed great movies all day was really nice. Outside they had a food festival on so I could get great food at cheap prices on my doorstep. I scooted off to the Islands […] with just a small rucksack and left my bag in storage for free. Apparently you pay 100Baht a day for this at the airport. I guess I'd describe myself as a Champagne Backpacker so this hotel is perfect for travellers who aren't on a tight budget. Very good value for money and lovely vibe. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful Unique Hotel"
Great hotel! Shame we only had 2 nights there! Will definitely return next time in Bangkok!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel in heart of China town"
The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. There was a free shuttle to Grand Palace which was nice and you could take the boat back and walk to the hotel. The rooms do not have any windows so it is great for one or 2 nights but I couldn't stand it longer than that.Genuine Expedia guest review
Stylish Hotel with excellent food & helpful staff, situated in the heart of Chinatown.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Very handy to Chinatown, BMT shopping mall, etc."
Staff were very helpful and the hotel was very handy to attractions. Good street food was very close by. Breakfast was OK but we have had a lot better in other similarly priced hotels. The room we had did not have a proper window that looked outside so the room was dark even during the day. A lighter room would have improved our experience. "Only 10 mins walk to Ploen Chit BTS!"
Was on a solo trip for 2 nights (8-9 Aug 2014). Stayed here given the super good reviews. Room is of a great, comfy size and everything's clean. Hotel is located in the alley of Soi 2, just a straight walk down to the main road followed by a left turn to Ploen Chit BTS. Perhaps 10 mins walk? Hotel provides buggy service to the main road. Breakfast choice […] pretty limited but I guess you pay for the convenience instead of having to trudge around for a cafe early in the morning. A few cool eateries nearby like Cafe Bicycle and Witch's Oyster Bar & Restaurant. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Great location for China town. Service at the hotel was fantastic. Butler Es was very helpful. Wasn't quite worth the rate, but more than happy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Character hotel in the heart of Chinatown"
Arrived very late (and very tired) to a beautiful hotel decorated in 1930s style. Staff very polite and helpful. Our room was clean, hot shower, thick white towels and tea. Good WiFi. In bustling area close to temples, free shuttle to shopping and Royal Palace. About 45 mins from airport.Genuine Expedia guest review
"A very good over-all experience"
Right from the welcome drink to arranging the taxi for our journey away from the hotel, every thing was very good and well-organised. The staff were very ready to help for whatever we asked them. The best part was that they offered to keep our baggage safely for free for 2 days even after our check-out from the hotel. But somehow, all the taxi/toktok […] drivers found it difficult to find the hotel even after we tried to communicate it very clearly. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"What a good find!"
This hotel is located in Chinatown area of bangkok within easy reach of subway however we walked to grand palace (about 3km) and there is a pier that the tourist boat stops at close by too! The staff in the hotel were extremely helpful and made you feel very much at home, they gave recommendations of street food vendors to try which is a must in Chinatown! […] The hotel is beautifully decorated, spacious and clean. Great buffet breakfast. They even provided a complimentary Chinese afternoon tea one of the days we stayed- really nice touch. Would thoroughly recommend staying here! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great boutique hotel, good location"
Comfortable place. Elegantly decorated. Very helpful staff as well. Location is good and it's one of the best street food locations at night. However it is a bit far from any BTS stations.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Shanghai Mansion Hotel"
Stayed 2 nights Feb 2&3,2014 at end of G Adventure tour of Cambodia and Laos. Was start of Chinese New Year and hotel is located in heart of Chinatown district. Street was all decorated and had a nice holiday atmosphere. At that time protests were happening in Bangkok but this area was very quiet and felt very safe. All in all a very enjoyable stay […] .Had to catch a very early morning flight and the hotel arranged the taxi and made sure I woke up in time at 3:30 am to get to the airport in plenty of time. "Middle of China Town and Close to River"
Currently being refurbished but we were not disturbed, although restaurant for dinner was closed. Excellent breakfast, clean room, helpful staff. Just be careful asking the hotel staff to get you a taxi. We ended up travellling to the nearby station in a tuktuk with two big suitcases. Good location for river tours, metro and main train station as well […] as China Town. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"In the heart of Chinatown"
We had just completed a long tour of SE Asia and did not want to stay extra nights in the hotel used by the tour company. We found this delightful option on line. The reviews and the price were exactly what we wanted.Genuine Expedia guest review
"china town experience"
Very attentive staff. Hotel let down by lack of a pool and current renovations that can be noisy during the day time. But highly recommend this hotel if you are only in Bangkok for 3 nights or less, due to location, China town is ok and may appear slightly shabby during daylight hours but comes alive at night.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Old World Charm and Class!"
When we said that we were staying at the Shanghai Mansion to the agents at the tourists desk in the airport they were highly impressed. Once arriving at the hotel after a long day of travel we quickly understood and agreed with their reaction. The service, the ambiance, the decor, the food, even the toiletries, everything - we were simply blow away. […] I have told all my friends and family that if they ever have the occasion of visiting Bangkok that they must stay at the Shanghai Mansion!! It's location was also very convenient to many major tourist attractions! We absolutely LOVED the Shanghai Mansion and would love to stay there again!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Six of us stayed in three Mei Hua rooms, for three nights, at the Shanghai Mansion. The rooms are not large but they are very clean and comfortable. The hotel is very well positioned for the Day Markets and to many restaurants. There were reservations going on at the time we were there but no inconvenience to us except that the ground floor restaurant […] was out of action and dinner was at the Cotton bar on the 3rd floor and had a limited menu, but good jazz music while you eat!. This would not have an issue had my daughter not been on crutches from a swimming incident on Koh Chang. We also took taxis to the river, for a Longtail river cruise (taxi-80Bht) and to MBK shopping centre (57Bht). Be sure to get a metered taxi or a firm price otherwise. Staff are very friendly, as with everywhere that I have been in Thailand. Is, on the 'Street desk' was very helpful with directions, grabbing taxis off the street etc. Thanks Is. There is also a Tour desk on the ground floor for day and multi night trips from Bangkok. In all, a very enjoyable stay and I would definitely recommend the Shanghai Mansion to anyone heading to Chinatown. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Beautiful Chinatown gem"
The most beautiful room I have ever stayed in! Free soft drinks, beer and snacks. Never been to Chinatown in BK but it's great spot and they have a free tuk tuk to temple. Breakfast buffet is huge mix of Asian and Western; lovely. Giant indoor pond with fish. Nice staff.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Not how it looks in the pictures"
Very expensive for what it is. Dingy rooms. Has seen better days. We checked out the same day as we were disappointed and marched down the road with our bags to get a taxi...which was selectively chosen, encouraged to get a tuk tuk (with loads of bags !)...eventually pointed us to hua lamphong station which we walked to (with loads of bags!).Genuine Expedia guest review
"Still under renovations"
In the heart of china town is this self acclaimed 4 star hotel. The biggest concern are the key entry doors that can easily be broken down and lax security that accompanies it. The breakfast is brilliant and staff are friendly. If you like the smells and crowds of china town this is the place. For booze and fun, this isn't for you...better off down […] near patong. "Great Chinatown hotel"
The best features of this hotel is its location in busy chinatown and its amazing decor. We stayed in a suite and could not have been more comfortable. The aspect that detracted from an excellent rating was the restaurant, which lacked in both food and atmosphere, and general information. While there was a tourist information desk, we could not seem […] to get any information from the staff manning the desk. We were provided with a stylized map on check in, but this did not include the alleyway, which, let's face it, are the most exciting aspect of the area. Once we asked, a better map was presented. Both of these were only small aspects, but took the gloss off an otherwise lovely stay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Beautiful enchanting hotel in crazy China Town"
Travelling to 10 countries in a row for work. Bangkok trip was my week off. Need a place to relax... found it at the Shanghai Mansion. It was a peaceful and calm retreat in the heart of fierce China Town. Lots of people, food, shops. Really enjoyed ourselves.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great Service with a lot of Charactre"
This was a great little hotel, right in the heart of China Town. The rooms are starting to show their age a little, and the hot water for the shower was a bit lacking, but don't let that put you off. The location and the staff more than make of for this very, very minor quibble. It's also worth noting that it's about a 20 minute walk to the MRT station […] (it may look a little nearer on the map), but taxis are very cheap, so it's easy to get there. Design chic in the heart of Chinatown. Staff are very helpful . We booked because it was highly rated, and iits design and style are so distinctive. It was the best choice we could have made . Tuk tuk ride to the nearest metro station, HuAtoki Lamphong, should be 50 baht, but may go up to 70 in heavy traffic. "Crazy but Cool"
The hotel was very good, upon entry reception brought out Thai tea and the hotel staff could do enough for us. The décor was so different than any other we had ever seen before.....Great hotel, would definitely go again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Nice hotel but no facilities and they were renovating while we were there. Location is good in china town.Taxis will rip you off if you don't look Thai!;D Always insist to go by the meter.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Quiet haven in the insanity of Chinatown, Bangkok"
Room nicely decorated, very quiet (with the exception of construction noise during the day, which we were apprised of before our stay). Excellent housekeeping (they even folded my husband's underwear...poor housekeepers). Located in the heart of Chinatown, which is a blessing and a curse. It's near all kinds of things to do and see- hundreds of shops […] and restaurants on the same street, temple of the Golden Buddha within ten minute walk, Hualumpong train station and MRT station within 15 minute walk (although across some INSANE intersections, the key is to walk when the Thais go!). However- getting a cab to take you there is difficult. Only ONE taxi took us right away, others would simply say no or try to charge us some ridiculous amount. There are a few reasons for this- Chinatown is SO busy it actually makes other parts of Bangkok look like the traffic is flowing nicely; Chinatown's roads are difficult to navigate and are mostly one-way; and landmarks are very difficult to spot in Chinatown because everything is so densely packed. We walked by the hotel at least once when we first arrived, even though it has a large sign. For the price- great value, but I would warn anyone staying that the location, while convenient in some regards, is a nightmare for cabs home. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"amazing, beautiful rooms, friendly helpful staff"
fabulous, character rooms which feel luxurious. The free mini bar, silk dressing gowns, good quality toiletries, snacks around the communal seating areas, lovely surroundings, comfy bed, deep large bath tub all make for a perfect stay. The hotel and rooms were spotless and the staff were all very polite and helpful. The location wasn't perfect for the […] sites and tourist shopping but they run a free shuttle to the main attractions and it's easy to get about if that's what you want. If you have never been to Asia or seen any Chinatown, this is the place to be. For more accustomed people, I would recommend going closer to the riverside. The hotel was under maintenance but still quiet. One tiny negative aspect is the breakfast.... do not count on it but rather go explore the neighborhoodsGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good value for the money"
My girlfriend and I stayed 3 nights in a Ying Hua room. We were both very satisfied with the quality of the room, furnitures, quality, light, temperature, compliments, wifi speed, etc.. The room appeared exactly (or even better) than the pictures we saw on the internet. Location was OK. Just 5-10 minutes in taxi from Grand Palace. But expect the worst […] nightboorhood, since we saw lots of rats, cockroaches and very poor people. We did not like the dirty and smelly streets, but it was a good experience although. "Cheap, cheerful and a good location"
Stayed here for one night before starting a G-Adventures tour at the Bangkok Centre Hotel. It's much nicer than the BCH and only 5-10 minutes walk away. Staff were pleasant, room was clean and spacious and it worked out to be cheaper than a night at the BCH. All in all a good hotelGenuine Expedia guest review
We stayed in this hotel at the start of a 4 week trip across Asia, so chose luxury to start us off and it put our holiday off to a great start. We arrived at 6am and were collected from the airport, when arriving we were given tea and damp towel and we able to check in shortly after. The room was amazing, huge beds, shower room, seperate toilet and […] huge bathtub. The layout isn't the same as a traditional hotel, there are a few rooms on each floor and there is seating outside and a water feature on the ground floor. The mini bar was free and has a TV and DVD player available. The hotel has complimentary tuk tuks to the palace and the MBK mall which we used for the palace. Location is great for Chinatown, right in the middle of the streets and so close to the markets - it's great to come off a busy, hot street into the calmness of the hotel. To get to the palace you need to get the tuk tuk there and probably a taxi back, I'm not sure how long the walk would be, the restaurants around the area are unsurprisingly thai/chinese so if looking for a more western menu you need to go further out. All in all though the hotel is excellent, rooms are great, bed was so comfortable and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definately stay here again.
