Lovely hotel, unique decoration, friendly and attentive staff. Cotton club nice and relaxing contrast to relentles hustle and bustle of china town. Excellent jazz band every night. Location in china town very interesting, lovely sea food, street foodnon the corner close by.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great Asian themed hotel"
Lovely quaint hotel. Location is in Chinatown and not the best area to stay in.Genuine Expedia guest review
A very good hotel by all standards, be it the personnel, the food, the rooms, safety...even pricing of most of their services makes shanghai mansion probably one of the best hotels in Bangkok. I am really satisfied and i hope the next time i come to Bangkok it will be my first choice!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good value for the money"
My girlfriend and I stayed 3 nights in a Ying Hua room. We were both very satisfied with the quality of the room, furnitures, quality, light, temperature, compliments, wifi speed, etc.. The room appeared exactly (or even better) than the pictures we saw on the internet. Location was OK. Just 5-10 minutes in taxi from Grand Palace. But expect the worst […] nightboorhood, since we saw lots of rats, cockroaches and very poor people. We did not like the dirty and smelly streets, but it was a good experience although. "Cheap, cheerful and a good location"
Stayed here for one night before starting a G-Adventures tour at the Bangkok Centre Hotel. It's much nicer than the BCH and only 5-10 minutes walk away. Staff were pleasant, room was clean and spacious and it worked out to be cheaper than a night at the BCH. All in all a good hotelGenuine Expedia guest review
We stayed in this hotel at the start of a 4 week trip across Asia, so chose luxury to start us off and it put our holiday off to a great start. We arrived at 6am and were collected from the airport, when arriving we were given tea and damp towel and we able to check in shortly after. The room was amazing, huge beds, shower room, seperate toilet and […] huge bathtub. The layout isn't the same as a traditional hotel, there are a few rooms on each floor and there is seating outside and a water feature on the ground floor. The mini bar was free and has a TV and DVD player available. The hotel has complimentary tuk tuks to the palace and the MBK mall which we used for the palace. Location is great for Chinatown, right in the middle of the streets and so close to the markets - it's great to come off a busy, hot street into the calmness of the hotel. To get to the palace you need to get the tuk tuk there and probably a taxi back, I'm not sure how long the walk would be, the restaurants around the area are unsurprisingly thai/chinese so if looking for a more western menu you need to go further out. All in all though the hotel is excellent, rooms are great, bed was so comfortable and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definately stay here again. "Great Boutique Hotel"
Stayed at Shanghai Mansion from July 5 to 9, 2013. The rooms were very clean, although bed was a bit hard, the service excellent and staff very friendly and helpful. It is in the middle of China town so there is lots to do and see. I would definetly recommend this hotel to others.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
When people walk outside the door can hear very clearly and when ever other tourist bathe or used the toilet can hear and always wake me up interrupted my sleepGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"SHANGHAI MANSION, Thailand"
Shanghai Mansions is in great location in Chinatown near grand river Chao Phraya so we could use river boats for fast travel around to temples malls palaces and shops. Gorgeous decor in 1920's Shanghai theme with chinoiserie furnishings with a touch of Suzi Wong. Staff and service lovely. Great value for very affordable price , even our basic Mei Hua […] room, which was quite exotically furnished. Good air con adjustable in each room and non smoking. 4 storey ' genteel' boutique hotel offering beautiful relaxed environs after our adventures all day. Upstairs Cotton Club jazz swing combo and cocktails makes the whole experience like being in a vintage movie and you want to dress the part. No plastics chain hotel. No pool beauty salons and souvenir shops. Highly recommended. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Beautiful styling and excellent service"
Beautifully styled boutique hotel - bringing out the best in tasteful and interesting room decoration. If you like 'shabby chique' style decorating, you'll live this asian twist on the theme. Quirky touches like old Chinese style 4 poster beds, bird cage hanging in the bathroom, colourful lanterns, silk robes and slippers - you can even request to have […] a live fish in a bowl as a pet during your stay. All the comforts without the price tag. Very friendly and fast service. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Unbelievable -It just doesn't get better than this"
The room was really amazing. Top quality fittings and finishes, modern, clean. The staff were incredibly professional, very friendly and helpful. The design of the hotel was so peaceful and a real haven from the chaotic streets of Chine Town. The breakfast was excellent - a nice mix between west and east. They offered a free tuk tuk ride to grand palace, […] MBK shopping mall and one other place I can’t remember which, was a nice touch. In terms of location, you really are in the middle of China Town with an excellent night market. Also it is close to all the major tourist destinations. The only issue with Shanghai was that the Taxi driver had no idea how to get there and the number printed on email I received was wrong. Be sure to have direction in Thai. Other than that, this is an absolute must stay in Bangkok. Seriously, you can’t go wrong. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I just stayed for one day at Shanghai Mansion. Definetly wanted to spend one more day there. The hotel looks in bad shape from the road, but once you enter the ambience is really nice. great stay, amazing furnishings in room, very well styled, great value with the free snacks in mini bar, was a great surprise no hotel ever does that that will return such a great little hotelGenuine Expedia guest review
At the moment the hotel is renovating its ground floor foyer and cafe. Once that is completed the experience should be even better. We found the staff helpful and knowledgeable. Decor is 1930's Chinese especially the 1st and 3rd levels. Took lots of photos. Walked from hotel to river through China town in the evening . Found that experience fascinating. "Stunning, old world Shanghai glamour......"
Stunning hotel - very old world Shanghai glamour just like website says. Room was incredible, attention to detail was superb, service so friendly & hospitable. Tranquil & quiet room, very peaceful sanctuary to come home to each night after the madness of downtown Bangkok. Astounded at the ridiculously cheap price I paid - was the most phenomenal value […] ever. Located right in the heart of Chinatown - so your experience will be most authentic & you will really feel like you are in traditional Bangkok, not some other international city staying in an internationally branded hotel room which could be anywhere in the world. Close to Little India, flower market & only a few stops on the SKYTRAIN or SUBWAY to shopping centres, stunning rooftop bars & the river for catching water taxi's. Food was delicious & staff were very accommodating at 3am when I had to leave for the airport, by arranging a taxi & sorting my checkout very speedily. Would highly recommend this hotel. Hotel and staff brilliant location for china town is great but if u need a taxi locally no one will go on the meter due to traffic they are getting like the old tuk tuk drivers but don't let that put you off staying at the hotel as they do offer a free tuk tuk ride to Royal Palace and MBK if there are more they provide a taxi serviceGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice Boutique hotel, with a personal touch"
Tired of skycrapers hotel, with a worldwide identical clinical decoration?Bangkok is full of them... What a shame! So I was very pleased to find Shanghai Mansion, comfortable, relatively spacious room, right in the middle of China Town, although quite calm inside and with a definite identity. I loved it!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fun stay in Bangkok"
Great location in Bangkok as it is on the edge of Chinatown, not far from the subway, nor the river. The breakfast buffets were a good start to the day, music at night. One couple had a problem with an unpleasant smell in their room and they were moved to a better room right away. I left postcards to be mailed and they were gracious about mailing them […] for me. Four of us took the taxi to the airport, which was cheaper than the taxi to the train station and the train to the airport. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice in ways, I will stay somewhere else next time"
There are some great things about this hotel. The staff are friendly, the food is fantastic and the decor is interesting. It's smack bang in china town, so if you want the hustle, bustle of that, its a great place to stay. We had a great time eating out on the street corners and wandering around. However, we had an issue with the room and there were […] ongoing issues with the plumbing and noise from the drain which, due to the layout of the room (basically a studio-style room) meant that it was really loud in bed. When people showered in the rooms above (which happened all night) there were loud bubbling and gurgling noises. I finally got fed up one night and rang house keeping, which came (when no one was showering) and the language barrier made it hard to explain what was happening. In the end we put in ear plugs but it still woke me up. The bed was also very hard. The layout of the room also meant that there was quite a bit of ambient light at night times and this kept my partner awake. Overall I can understand why this hotel is rated highly, and it was good overall, and it was always nice to walk into the air conditioning, but those little things meant our sleep was disrupted and we didn't have the best time. Shanghai Mansion is a delightful hotel, excellent location in the middle of Chinatown but still a quiet oasis away from it all. "Arrived on Chinese New Year"
This hotel is bang in the center of Bangkoks Chinatown on the busiest street. We arrived on the day of Chinese New Year. Great, except the road outside the hotel was closed to traffic for the celebrations. Our taxi dropped us as close as he could but we still had to drag our heavy suitcases almost half a mile through massive crowds to reach the hotel. […] Not the hotels fault of course.Hotel itself is very unassuming from outside, you could easily walk past it and not notice it. (we did !!). Inside, is a haven of cool air-con and old time luxury. Every room is different. Some of the standard rooms are in need of a makeover, but the suits are great. Bar is good with live jazz most mights. Restaurant is mostly Chinese food, but OK. A good value choice if you want to stay in Chinatown. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great atmospheric place to stay."
I chose the hotel mainly do to online reviews on another site and the location, China Town. I was quite happy with my choice. First, the rooms were quite comfortable and well decorated. Next, the staff was excellent, constantly trying to make sure I was happy even when I was simply entering and leaving. Finally, the location is fantastic. Chinatown […] does not get over run with tourists to the same degree as, say, Silom or Sukhumvit, and as a result has a much more authentic feel. The royal palace and main historical sites are a few kilometer's walk or a 100B tuk-tuk ride a way. The metor is a 10 minute walk. And the hotel itself is charming. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Hotel has a unique style and decor"
Service was very nice on arrival. The rooms and hotel decor are unique and interesting. The only problem we had was getting our room serviced one day. This may have been due to the busy holiday season. The breakfast included in our room rate was okay. There was a station where eggs were cooked, fruit, various chinese food items and american breakfast […] offerings. The hotel is located in China town in Bangkok. It is a very busy area. There is an excellent chinese food restaurant next door. Room amenities were very nice and the common area overlooking the fish pond in the center of the hotel was a lovely unique feature. There is a small fridge in room which was stocked each day with water, pop, and snacks which was included with room rate. Overall interesting hotel with unique features which made it a nice change of pace from standard hotel rooms. Price we booked with was reasoanble. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Hotel at the heart of Bangkok's Chinatown"
This hotel is a perfect base for exploring Bangkok's chinatown. It is a few steps away from the Golden Buddha at Wat Traimit and Ratchawong peer, giving you access to the river. It is surrounded by a multitude of shops and open-air markets. The hotel decor is an attraction in itself; the indoor fish pond deserves a visit if you are in the neghbourhood, […] whether you are staing at Shanghai Mansion or not. The rooms are spations, clean, and comfortable - however, rooms on the upper floors can get quite hot, airconditioning or not. The staff are very helpful, but I can't recommend the hotel's laundry service: our clothes were not rinsed properly, and had to be re-washed. It can be difficult to get a taxi (or even a tuk tuk) ride to this hotel: traffic in Chinatown is horrendous, even by Bangkok standards. Taxi drivers will often pretend not to know where Yaowarat road is (it is quite impossible not to know it if you live in Bangkok), or will ask for exorbitant fares - especially during the peak hours. "Old world China Hotel."
The front of the Hotel is hidden in amongst all the shop fronts around, so it is a little difficult to find. The door man was great. Reception is on the second floor at the top of the escalator. A nice welcome by the staff, and the check in process is very quick. They gave us a very useful map of the local area with tourist spots and restautants highlighted, […] plus a card you could use to tell locals, in their language, where the hotel was located so you can get back if you get lost. The inside of the hotel is beautiful and "old world". Very clean and smells nice. The room was well prepared and excellent value for money. Mini bar was complimentry. After a day or so we notices some small issues in the room, nothing bad. Shower water pressure was very low and power points coming away from the wall. Staff are only too happy to assist if required. They organised our transport, at the end of our stay, to take us to the airport, and verified our tour arangements for us. The area is almost central China Town, so you experience it all. The exotic smells, people and night life. There is a good restaurant next door if you like. We had a great few days and would recommend this hotel if you want to stay in China Town Bangkok. "A good place in chinatown"
This is truly a boutique hotel. Everything there is unique and not a standard hotel room. They have a free shuttle service to grand palace and some shopping centers and a free minibar which is nice. Breakfast is good but Asian style that means a lot of fried stuff and not many vegetables, but they do have a wide array of dishes to satisfy most people.
