Room a bit on the small side, excellent location and bedding though, dirty carpets and very old torn towels (definitely past due date), no noticeable difference between superior and deluxe room. We had booked a room in each category and didn't feel we got any added value for the more expensive deluxe room. Staff had limited english and a simple request […] for a bellboy with a big trolley to pick up our luggage from the room had to be repeated five times to two different employees before the message got through. Airport bus 5 from pu dong airport stops nearby (shanghai railway) and we could roll our heavy suitcases from the bus to the hotel - had to cross a road but very conveniently with no stairs, undercrossings or other obstacles on the way - just few hundred meters. Location, comfy bed, free Internet and in-room safety box made our stay a good one despite the issues mentioned above. Read more

As in a previous stay I found the hotel very warm because heat rises & the upper floors get hot. Air conditioning is not on & only way to cool room is to open windows. My room safe did not work so I complained about heat & safe & they upgraded me to a suite which was a lot nicer (maybe they had AC in club level rooms) This trip they had added free WiFi […] which was an improvement. Very clean rooms and good amenities, except I can’t believe that they do not provide free internet/WiFi in the rooms and you have to go to the lobby to get free WiFi . Overall the rooms were very nice and very comfortable mattress. The location was very good, just across the street is Shanghai south railway station and subway (metro) too. Bus stations […] going to PuDong airport is right across street in front of the train station. You can take bus #5 from PuDong airport to get here for only 22 RMB, it will take you about 1 hour 20 minutes and you can take the same bus to go back to airport and they will drop you in front of your terminal. The location is convenient. I ran into a couple issues. The thermostat did not really work in the room so it was colder than I would have liked. Also, they ran out of most of the food that was any good for room service. Two big dings in my book. Other than that, it was okay and convenient.

This complaint may still be sent to the hotel management for incorrectly charging me for a coffee cup breakage as that of a whiskey glass. At check-out, I told the desk clerk what my my wife had accidentally dropped on the floor was a coffee cup, not a whiskey glass, to no avail.

The hotel was very convenient. We took the airport bus #5 from Pudong airport. The bus stop is a three-minute walk to the hotel. Also, a subway station entrance is just next to the hotel entrance. Lots of restaurants nearby. Also, very close to the railway station. When we walked up to the desk the receptionist recognized us and had our reservation […] in front of him. The porter was very helpful (we had lots of luggage). When we were ready to check out the porter was there very quickly. The concierge services were very friendly and helpful. They called taxis when we needed them and gave directions for locations we wanted to see. The room was very nice with a nice view. We didn't use any of the drinks that were in the fridge because they were a bit pricey compared to what you could get at nearby shops. They provided bottles of drinking water daily. The wireless (wifi) was not available in the rooms, only in the lobby. We highly recommend this hotel and would stay again, if we ever were to return to Shanghai. Read more

Excellent value, good location, 2 mins walk from Shanghai Railway Station exit 5. Nice comfortable well-appointed rooms. Front desk staff courteous and professional, speaks acceptable English. Restaurant: food somewhat overpriced, little choice, servers speak little or no English. Restaurant clean and nicely decorated though.

The Grand Mercure Shanghai Zhongya is an absolutely beautiful hotel. It is located across from the Shanghai Railway system and has easy access to the metro. I've LOVED my previous stays at this hotel. I kept returning because the staff is friendly, welcoming, considerate, and helpful. On my last visit, the bellman and concierge experiences were so negative […] that I will not return. At arrival I paid the taxi driver and found that the bellman had taken my bags from the taxi trunk and dropped them on the pavement in the road. The three men at the outside stand stared at me as I picked up my bags and struggled to the door. It was so rude and I felt so unwelcome and uncomfortable whenever I saw them during my stay. After check in all was great except for the toilet sewer odor, still a minor issue. When checking out, I asked the concierge to call a taxi to take me to Pudong Airport. When I got outside the taxi was a small suv instead of the normal sedan but I did not think anything of it. The ride to the airport was fast due to little traffic. Instead of the 150 RMB bill, the meter and receipt said 275 RMB. I could be wrong about this but I am assuming that I paid a higher rate because of the taxi that I was in. Since the driver gave me a receipt and the start and end times were accurate I assume that the taxi driver was legit. So why did the concierge arrange for the more expensive taxi? The hotel was comfortable. The common areas were very nicely appointed.The staff was veryf riendly and accommodating . Everyone greeted you with a big smile. I was traveling alone so it would have been nice if they had a crowd in the bar in the evening, It was very quiet.

The Hotel has undergone quite a few changes, I have stayed there for a total of 2 months (in short periods of 2 weeks or less each time) and while somethings have improved, there are quite a few problems with it: -80 RMB for more then 1 hour of Internet: this is completely unacceptable. The hotel itself is quite expensive and having to pay 80 RMB DAILY […] is just way too much to ask. Also there is no Wi-Fi in the rooms, and in case you want it, you need to rent a router to access it. -Air conditioner is usually not working, or not working properly: The room temperature was at a 26-27 degree most of the time, and the AC was set to put the temperature at 18º. However it never really got any cooler, the temperature always wavered at around 26º. -Extremely hot sheets: The sheets (you only have one large sheet) are so hot that it's totally necessary to dismantle the bed and remove some of the beds interior sheets, or else I can garantee you that you won't handle the heat. For a fairly new hotel, there were many defects~~we had a missing light fixture over the sink, the central air didn't work and we had to use a fan! Cigarette smoke smell made the room hard to breathe in even though we were on a non-smoking floor! There were cracks in the marble tile floors in the bathroom, the closet smelled of mildew, the door hanger […] for breakfast requests was a used one! One flyer about the hotel that was part of the hotel description even had a piece torn out of the back~~it should have been replaced. The breakfast buffet was pretty good and worth the upgrade to the executive floor. The Happy Hour offerings were also good. I wouldn't recommend the restaurant for dinner, however. I stayed six night in Nov 2011, the location is very convenient with subway #1 and #3 & 4 right out the door, the train is a 3 minutes walk and there are plenty of restaurants around. The staffs are very helpful and speak English.

Very convenient location. It just right above the Shanghai Metro Station, Exit 5, & right across the Shanghai Railway Station. That easily takes you almost everywhere in Shanghai. It has an airport bus going from Shanghai Pu Dong Airport dropping you off at the back of the hotel. But it is a 2 hours journey. Breakfast is just OK.
