"Nice neighborhood with underground station"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 6, 2012
Clean, spaciuse rooms, although a bit old but well maintained. At 1st we received a smaller room that expected and paid for "club room" but once we asked we were given the club room. I didnt like the fact of giving a smaller room unless I complain, a bit unprofessional but honestly very nice and helpful staff.

Lovely clean hotel close to Oxford Street. Lots of interesting boutiques, restaurants and bars close to the hotel. Friendly staff and great housekeeping of rooms.

"Great location"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
The staff was always pleasant and our room was clean. The hotel building is very old. They have done their best to update but I think the rating should be two stars and not three. Rooms are very small but we only used it for sleeping. Hotel is only two short blocks to the Queensway Tube station. The breakfast buffet was adequate but nothing fancy. Two VERY small elevators service the building and run very slow, so expect to be patient in catching one up or down.

The University of London and the British Museum give Bloomsbury a bookish air. Charlotte Street offers good restaurants, while Tottenham Court Road has electronic stores to suit all budgets, and links to the 300 shops of buzzing Oxford Street. Trendy Soho is a few minutes away by foot. Full of local character, it offers interesting pubs, top restaurants, West End theatres and a rich, sometimes risqué nightlife.

Queen-size bedroom was not massive, but not tiny - a good business room standard, with a window that actually opened if you wanted real air. There are plenty of similar, but cheaper options e.g. along the South Bank, but if you really want or need to be on the West End doorstep, this is a good choice.

"Good central location"
This hotel is just off Trafalgar square and well located for all main attractions. The frontage and lobby are impressive but the rooms, while very clean are just typical hotel rooms. Breakfast had a good selection of meats, cheeses, fruits, cereals, yoghurts and breads and also "full English" We had the very unpleasant experience of being stuck between […] floors in the lift for about 45 minutes one evening. We were very disappointed in the way the incident was handled. Although the alarm rang for the whole of the time we were stuck, the staff did not contact us to ask if we were ok or if there was any body in need of assistance or elderly. We eventually managed to shout to tell them how many were in the lift. and ask them to call the emergency services. After about 45minutes a lift engineer arrived and managed to open the doors. There were no staff there to check we were ok and the man on duty at the reception desk actually laughed when we walked by and said "are you the ones that have been stuck in the lift?" We asked to see the manager who said that the lift was overloaded, which we disputed. He promised that someone would speak to us the next day. When they didn't, I spoke to the duty manager who agreed to refund our bar bill for the drinks we'd had after being stuck, and gave us vouchers for breakfast for both days of our stay. We were reasonably satisfied eventually but feel that lessons need to be learned from this and we're not all together confident that they will be. Read more
"The Grand at Trafalgar - great location"
Really great hotel - so convenient and nicely furnished. The bar downstairs is nice for a drink too. Really liked the water and ice dispenser and extra comforts provided. Only criticism was the air con was not very effective so it was a bit hot. Otherwise, perfect!
"The Grand - Trafalgar"
Excellent location - breakfast not included but plenty of places within walking distance to buy breakfast. Nearby Piccadily, St James Park, walking distance to Soho, Mayfair, oxford street etc Reception service was a bit mediocre when asking advice on where to go etc, and the pillows, for our taste were way to big
"iPod docking station!!!"
I enjoyed staying this hotel only because it has iPod docking station. You can hear your own music with the fantastic feeling just like you are at home. However, bathroom is not so good.... And the quilt is really uncomfortable.. Heavy and not soft.... Actually I didn't sleep well...Security system is quite good.
"Good, clean hotel, handy for Traf Sq and Cov Gdn"
Handy for an overnight stay. Good clean room, reasonable size. Didn't have breakfast at the hotel, but there are options nearby. Could do with more than two small lifts.
"Fantastic hotel in a fantastic location"
We booked The Grand at the last minute without knowing too much about it. We were so pleased to find it's location just off Trafalgar Square and right in the heart of theatre land. The hotel was Grand and on each floor made available plastic bottles which can be filled with filtered water - lovely touch. Another lovely touch was a cupboard on each floor […] with extra towels, pillows, etc. We had a fantastic stay and would love to go back to spend more time there. Read more
"Grand at Trafalgar Square"
The plus point was the position of the hotel. There were virtually no facilities, a very odd small reception area, the bar was always closed when we returned from the theatre and after dinner and finally, the rooms were very poorly appointed for a 4 star hotel. No slippers, dressing gowns, spoons for tea, biscuits, for example. A fill your own system […] applied up the corridor. I was told I could not have or pay for fresh milk. The above spoiled it for us. "Very Nice Hotel"
Everything about the hotel was superb Small Tip. If you want a lay in, put the Privacy sign up at the front of the door, I didnt see it on the back of the door, and the housekeeper just let them self in, whilst I was still asleep!!

Brilliant location, awesome hotel, staff not as friendly as they could be. Breakfast closed at 11am on a Sunday? Way to early...

"Great Location"
I was very pleased with this hotel's location and the quality and cleanliness. I was there for New Year's celebrations, and this hotel is in the perfect location, very close to The Thames and situated very close to Leicester Square and other places of interst. The only gripe i have is that for the amount of money i paid, i would have liked a little […] mopre friendliness from the staff. Not even a smile, or a good wish on New Years eve. Cleaning staff were friendly and very professional. Very very disappointed with staff at front desk and door. Maybe because i am not a foreigner...they seemed to be freindly towards others....Maybe it's just me???? Read more
"Central location and good price."
Excellent location. Reasonable Price. Comfortable Room. Didn't eat or drink in the bar, but it looked very Grand. Could not fault.
"Excellent location"
We were really pleased with this hotel on many levels and we would definitely stay here again. Our room was ready when we arrived even though we were early, at best we had hoped to leave the luggage. The room was modern and clean and a decent size for such a central location. We asked for an iron and board and it was delivered to our room within minutes […] and stayed with us for the duration of our stay. The staff were helpful and friendly and should be highly commended. They were happy to help with directions and even printed off a route for us to help us get around. The location is excellent and we were able to walk to all of what we needed with the exception of the train station which was a very short tube ride away. The hotels reception area accommodates Boyd's Bar which is very smart and has friendly staff. The bar prices were typical of the area and standard of premises so whilst not being as cheap as a pub, they were definitely not rip off prices. The only tiny criticism I have is that the tea making facilities were a bit mean. Enough milk for one cup each (if you don't mind it strong). I would imagine that they would have sent up more if asked but sometimes it would just be nice if there was more than required rather than less. Would definitely use this hotel again, in face I've already looked at room prices for a stay early next year. Read more
"Grand is Grand"
Fab hotel just a short walk to the theatre as we were told! Sometimes other peoples '10 minute' walk is half an hour! Lovely hotel and food. Service was very good on all counts.
"Convenient and practical base"
Superb location, very modern and comfortable though room was small.

"Highly Recommended"
I don't think we could have chosen a better hotel for our short stay in London. Location, comfort, price, service were all excellent and we'd be happy to stay again. Everything we wanted to do was within walking distance, and something that is very rare in any hotel it seemed like whoever designed the rooms had actually stayed in hotels themselves! […] We only had a small double but it was more than adequate, modern, well decorated and clean and free wi-fi too. The breakfast was excellent value for money, good quality food well prepared and presented. Well done The Grand. Read more
"Fantastic location"
Great hotel, just a minute from Trafalgar Square and walking distance to all central London attractions. Hotel was spectacular, room was lovely - only one downside was the huge air conditioning unit right outside the bedroom window making noise all through the night.
"EXCELLENT location"
Excellent location for nipping down to Embankment, across the bridge and to the Eye etc, also the other way to Trafalgar Square, Theatreland, Covent Garden, China Town etc. All very good, but the continental breakfast at the table at £14.99 expensive and bit misleading with re Advertised £6:99 breakfast, which turned out to be just a croissant and coffee […] to be taken in the bar. (On the menu it looked as though the cooked breakfast was £14.99, not also the cold continental breakfast). However, as indicated, excellent location and service. All day breakfast available few yards away along the road towards Trafalgar Square. Also handy to know Boots Chemist just round the corner on the Charing Cross side of the Strand. A useful pre theatre meal taken. Read more

"Terrific Stay"
While the room was a bit small and the food at the restaurant quite pricey, the hotel was still GREAT! For London, I got a reasonable rate through hotels.com. "Excellent Location"
Stayed at the grand for 1 night, only issues where a faulty TV and an electricity socket not working. The hotel was clean, the staff were pleasent and happy to help and advise. The location was the biggest plus for us with the price also very reasonable. Will definatley stay at the grand trafalgar square again.
"The Grand At Trafalgar - Ideal!"
This is the third time I have stayed at this hotel and I wouldn't stay anywhere else. Great location, nice comfortable rooms and even free chilled water on every floor. Brilliant!
"Yes I do recommend"
I should say no I do not recommend as there may then always be availability for me but for sure I will be pleased to stay here again. Great location but more importantly a surprising good hotel. Very good clean rooms, service with a smile. I can and have recommended this hotel.
"an ok place"
Room was very small, but well appointed. However, you could not open the closet because the door was wedged between the wall and nightstand. The fans which run the heat are really noisy and difficult to adjust properly. It is centrally located near Charing Cross Tube , national gallery, theatres. "The Grand - great location"
Great location - walking distance to Covent Garden, London Eye, Soho, Leicester Square... walking around London is the best way to discover it! the room was good enough, spacious area and nice bathroom,
"The Grand at Trafalgar Square"
A beautiful appearance BUT I felt the price paid was too high as no breakfast was included. The rooms were pleasant and plush, however the staff working in the bar/restuarant were un helpful and difident towards guests. Being told to "go somewhere else away from the bar" having not been served with a complete ordre od drinks was rude. Also not appearing […] to want our custom for dinner brought us to the verge of eatin g elsewhere. The time we enquired for a table for 2 was 9:35 and the kitchen is advertised at closing at 10 p.m........several other people arrived after us and were seated hospitably but the Maitre de so I can only assume some staff just don't want to work there!! No we will not be returning since the feel of the place is that it wants to be "posh" but just doesn't know how. Read more
"Superb location for a West End visit."
My mum, mother in law and myself wanted a hotel that would be convenient for our trip to see Dreamboats and Petticoats. The Grand certainly lived up to our expectations; we were literally 50yards away from the theatre!!! The hotel was modern and comfortable with a breathtaking lobby. There was one member of reception staff who was off-hand with us when […] we arrived but subsequent staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was a triple room which had a mini kitchenette attached; it appeared well stocked and quite surprising to find in a hotel. The room was airy and air conditioning was a god send. But it was the view across Trafalgar Square that really was the cherry on the icing on the cake! The hotel were extremely accommodating the following day when we asked to leave our bags in storage so we could hit Covent Garden without our cumbersome luggage! We would certainly stay here again for the overall experience. Read more

"The Grand on Trafalgar Square - a secret gem"
This place was a great find! The location is obviously ridiculously central, and as a bonus the rooms are spacious with high ceilings, the bathroom pods look a bit odd at first but actually work fine, and it comes with free wifi, all of which was much more than I was expecting for the price.
"the grand."
this hotel was very easy to find just mins away from all the shops, this was my daughters and i first time staying in london, we needed a hotel which was very close to all the main attractions, walking distance from shops, parks, very good. staying in this hotel was lovely treet. all the staff were very friendly and very helpful. if i had lots of money […] i would of stayed alot longer. wounderful hotel... the only thing i would say is you do not get breakfast included.. "Ideal for sightseeing in London"
We were very please with our stay at The Grand Trafalgar Square. The rooms were big enough with a good view. The linen and bed clean. We liked the cold water machine and the sealed bottles at the water station on the landing, plus the free internet access. We did not eat in the hotel as it was very expensive, but that is comparable to other hotels in […] the vacinity. Only one thing would have improved the room, would have been a mirror near to the plugs on the dressing table, but we managed ok. All in all would stay there again and would recommend. Read more
Very nice room, comfortable bed air con, tea and coffee etc. Staff were very friendly and courteous, let us use the bag store for several hours on our day of departure. Location is superb for sights, river, theatres, shopping. Did not usethe bar/restaurant so cannot comment, but it all looked good. All round excellent.
"The Grand at Trafalgar Square - Great location"
We had a two night stay and were generally very pleased. The Bar was extortionate but kind of expected that with the location and everything. Room was lovely exactly what I would have expected my only critics being that the air-con was quite noisy so it couldn't be left on all night so in this unusually hot English weather it was a bit too warm. They […] could also do with a choice of pillows – but I am quite fussy like that. With the windows closed however I was very impressed with how quiet it was, we live in a semi-rural location and the noise always worries me in big cities so if a quiet night is what you're after The Grand will suit you perfectly. The location could not really be improved upon - I chose if for its ease of walking to Somerset House for a gig but so much was within one mile and the Bus Tour stops right outside if you're doing the tourist thing. This hotel is ideally situated for the most important centres of interest- theatres, museums, art galleries, shopsand is also close to the river bank. The room was of good size and very comfortable.
