Arrival was a little confusing, since it is not clear where to park. (You have to pull up to the gate and buzz reception.) Parking can be very tight, but the staff will assist in squeezing you into a space. The front desk's clerk could not have been more friendly, and he spoke perfect English. He gave us all the details about the hotel from memory -- opening times and locations for the restaurant, spa, etc. The room, though acceptable, was showing signs of age. Indeed, the room's hotel services directory heralded the upcoming arrival of their new spa...coming in 2008! Needless to say, these pages were not in good condition, and it's high time this book was updated. Wifi in the room was awful, and was so slow (or even nonexistent at times), such that I found it usable. Bar prices were knock-your-socks-off expensive. The hotel boasts a wide selection of different types of scotch, but we didn't think it was worth the money. There are plenty of more reasonably priced bars in proximity. Breakfast was the best we had in Israel. The buffet offered fresh-brewed coffee, an egg station, and a wide selection of pastries, breads, and meats. Tiberias was packed. And yet, despite all the noise, gridlock, and general hustle and bustle, the hotel provided a peaceful sanctuary while still being within easy walking distance of all the action. I would return.

Good but not great hotel. Very pretty old buildings but only fair rooms. Rooms on smaller side but clean and overall comfortable. Nice breakfast buffet and staff helpful. Probably the best choice to stay in Tiberius .

This hotel is way overpriced. The pictures on the Hotels.com website are not consistent with what you actually get. Our room for 3 showed 3 separate beds on the website. We ended up with 2 beds and a couch that was too short for our 17 year old boy. The website upcharged substantially for this but when we got there we were told that the third bed upgrade was another substantial fee. The room was very small. I have nothing to compare this hotel to in Tiberias but the room size we received for the rate we paid is exorbitant compared to hotels we have stayed in throughout Europe and the Middle East. Also, if you are interested in actually getting into the Sea of Galilee, they have no beachfront access. The breakfast buffet was top notch.

Lovely historic hotel and grounds are beautiful. Staff we found were mostly unhelpful, even bordering on rudeness in a couple of instances. They certainly did not put themselves out to help. Dinner and breakfast were self service....no one offered us wine or drinks. Usually hotels serve coffee etc at breakfast and offer a wine list at dinner! A nice pool but opening hours are kept secret. We watched from the gardens as many hopeful swimmers were turned back as the pool had closed. So mainly surly staff but nice gardens. A 5 star hotel run as if it was a hostel is how we would describe it.

The hotel is truly lovely with delightful well kept gardens and a fabulous pool area. Great breakfast and best fresh mint and lemonade drink we have ever had. Upgrade to Antique rooms if you can. They have character rather than the generic bland rooms in the new building. Tiberius is very tired but the surrounding countryside is beautiful

Bar closes early. Close to the promenade which is very nice. Spectacular views. Adjacent spa very average but has nice artwork. Bought a painting. For those room rates (some of the most expensive in Tiberias). internet access should be included without a ridiculous complicated user name/password that must be hand delivered to your room. The extra charge for that service is insulting and should be deleted.

Despite a somewhat non-friendly welcome by the young and not very professional receptionists, we enjoyed our stay at SCott's Hotel. The garden is beautiful, and we tried the evening buffet, which was excellent. Also, great pool and spa area. With a bette service attitude, this could be a very good place.

The hotel is very well finished, ideal for a quiet break in peaceful Galilee. Food is excellent but service was poor for the money we paid ($450 per night for standard (unique) room). Most waiting staff spoke very little English (didn't know spoon, tap water etc) which made things tricky! $70 each for evening buffet meal but coffee was then extra! Not quite what we expected for the money.

After a week with 4 different hotels, this was amazing. Right from the receival in the reception during check-in to the attentive waiter in the restaurant. The service was amazing, the food was high quality with an eye for details and the surroundings was beautiful and comfortable. We will definitely recommend this hotel for the future. The price of our stay matched the level of the hotel, especially when compared with other hotels.

"Made me think I was in Britain"

I stayed here for a night with a tour group, and stayed in the newer portion of the building. The room was fairly simply appointed, but was good sized and comfortable. I didn't have any problems with the TV, as other reviewers apparently had to deal with. Both the dinner and breakfast buffets were fantastic, with a huge variety and quantity of food; the amount of food available was probably the largest here of any of the hotels I stayed at on my tour. The food was always warm, quite tasty, and unlike most of the other hotels during the tour, included European foods as well as Middle Eastern. Thus, between the food and the room decor, I did almost forget that I was still in Israel. Finally, it is worth mentioning that service at the reception desk was very friendly.

"Such a disappointment!"
04/05/15 purdueup Dallas, Texas
I have come to the conclusion that there must not be a decent place to stay in Tiberius if the Scots Hotel is supposed to be the top hotel in town. Traveling around the country with another couple my husband and I spent one sad night in this poor excuse for a hotel! The stay went from bad to worse from incompetent staff at reception, the near impossibility of finding ones room. The property was empty, we never saw another guest and still had poor service. The room was last decorated I imagine 30 years ago, dirty, shabby, no remote for the TV. Threadbare linens, thin coverlet and sheets, nearly froze overnight. The hotel is on the lakefront and not really near anything, we figured we should just stay and eat in the restaurant on the property as it really didn't look safe to walk around the area. Went to the restaurant....surprise!! there would not be a buffet that night, probably because we were the only guests! They would serve in the bar a limited menu, firstly it was a dirty place, secondly they were not willing to move some chairs and set a table for four. My husband asked about using the exercise facilities, of course they weren't open either but said they would sent someone to unlock it for him, another wild goose chase, couldn't find the gym, no one showed to unlock it.....Boy were we glad when our guide picked us up the next morning so we could see the Scots Hotel in the rear view mirror!

"Uniquely charming and very comfortable"

We stayed here in the Doctor's House for three nights while touring Israel with a Christian group. we took breakfast and dinner here. Among the six hotels we stayed in over a 16-day period, we liked this hotel the best. The room was very large, with high ceilings, and the bathroom had great fixtures and copious amounts of hot water. It was, however, a challenge to confine the shower water to the tub, and some extra floor mats would have been helpful to mop up the spilled water. The breakfast- and dinner buffets were spectacular. The hotel is conveniently located close to the waterfront shops and restaurants of Tiberias.

"Very pleasant stay"

Located in an old and wonderfully renovated old hospital located on the west shore of the sea of Galilee at the old city of Tiberius sits this gorgeous romantic boutique small 5 star hotel. Modern spacious rooms, polite, helpful and efficient service, beautiful terrace gardens with view to the lake and the Golan heights, good and plentiful buffet meals. Reasonably priced and free parking at the premises. Highly recommended!!

"Poor and disappointing, avoid this hotel."
03/23/15 BarbaraDorset Sherborne, United Kingdom
Stayed at the Scots hotel for two nights during the course of a trip to Israel. We booked an antique room overlooking the sea of Galilee. The location of the hotel is wonderful and the view from the room was as advertised. The room itself though spacious was cheaply appointed. The linen was poor quality and towels very thin. The bath had a plastic plug, and there was an old fashioned vacuum style hairdryer, the sort you used to see in swimming pool changing rooms. There was no air conditioning in the bathroom which wasn't a problem for us in March, but might be for those travelling in the summer. 'Turndown' service was available, so long as you requested this before 4.pm. The worst thing though was the evening dinner and general surliness of the staff. Dinner is a buffet, the first course a variety of salads nothing to write home about, the main course dishes sound wonderful, but bear little resemblance to the slop which is offered. The hot plates sit there without replenishment, so if you do dine in suggest go early. I passed on the main course both nights and just had some soup. There's no draught beer served at the bar, allegedly open til 11.00.pm, but we were asked at 10.35 pm whether we wanted anything else as the bar was closing. We had a drink before dinner on the first night and a drink after dinner on the second night, and on both occasions were the only customers. Didn't use the spa, prices were hideously expensive, and on taking a look round the facilities nothing to compare with a chain hotel in the UK. The whole experience was disappointing. The other two hotels we stayed at during our stay, the King David in Jerusalem and the Rothschild Hotel in Tel Aviv, were great, exactly as said on the tin, and would recommend. so far as the Scots hotel goes, I think the owners should stick to what they do best, and leave the vocation of hotelier to those who know what they're doing.

"Over Rated, Over Priced, To Be Avoided"
03/21/15 ROBUKWINCHESTER Winchester
Having spent 2 nights with my partner at Scots in March of this year (2015), I simply cannot believe how it has achieved such good ratings hitherto. The rooms are 'OK' (Just!), but the food is dreadful. It claims 5 star standards, but what 5 star hotel serves a buffet (serve yourself) dinner. The food was luke warm, very poor choice and very poor quality. They did not have even basic staples such as white bread at breakfast. The staff appeared far from happy and many had a very surely disposition, obviously noy a 'happy' crew. Contract this with the King David in Jerusalem, where we had stayed for the 3 previous nights, or the Rothschild, Tel Aviv, where we spent the 2 subsequent nights. My advice to anyone who is accustomed to even reasonable hotel standards: Don't visit Scots, Tiberias.

"Cannot recommend this highest class place"
03/16/15 Zvika G Tel Aviv, Israel
In our feedback form after a weekend at the Scots Hotel we have highly praised all suggested classifications but on both “will you come again?” and “will you recommend this hotel to others?” we have stated a “NO !!!”. The site is gorgeous, rooms are fantastic; overall maintenance and celandines, just perfect; food, absolutely excellent; service and staff friendliness, remarkable and nevertheless, we will not be back! Other than seating back in the garden, the lovely lounge or on the balcony with a good book or working out at the gym there is simply nothing to do there, while the Tiberias surrounding is far from being attractive to say but the least. Located at the bank of the famous Sea of Galilee, where the weather would allow bathing, swimming and definitely enjoying the beach, throughout the year, the management nevertheless restricted access to the lake, only to the “official season”. The same however applies to the swimming pool one would expect to be covered, heated and enabling usage even during winter. The rather new and elegant Spa area is of limited amenities and focused mainly on a variety of most expensive personal treatments. Eyebrows raising is also the five star claim, while running full scale restaurant service for breakfast and dinner only (kind of “branch” is also offered on weekends) and providing “Mini bar” subject to ordering a “minibar package”. In other words,” just a bear of the mini bar” – not here, at this, way too expensive accommodation.

"Spectacular Scot's Hotel!"
03/15/15 DoctorCabanaBoy
Not your typical hotel. It's a cluster of small buildings originally designed as a local Scottish hospital. Situated on a hilltop and overlooking the Sea of Galilee, the view is tremendous. Roman ruins are located within its well manicured gardens. A delicious buffet breakfast awaits every morning. A great place to both start and end a local Israeli tour or just to spend a few days relaxing in Tiberius. Highly recommend the rooms in the Doctor's House.

"A treat to stay here during a long trip!"
03/08/15 travlbug4 Chicago, Illinois
Stayed for a few days with a group; was probably expensive but fee was rolled into total trip cost. I am a fan of old buildings and thought this was a beautiful hotel. We stayed in the new building; rooms seemed spacious and luxurious. Excellent extras – big, lush towels and robes; comfortable bed. We ate breakfast and dinner at the restaurant’s buffet; fabulous meals, a combination of Middle East and western foods; breads and desserts to die for! Throughout the stay we received very good service. Hot cider offered at check-in; the best chocolates ever tasted were on offer one afternoon. Close proximity for a walk by the Sea of Galilee or into business district. Weather did not permit use of the pool, and we did not make spa reservations. One negative - laundry rates are exorbitant – we did use the services out of necessity, and the laundry was done completely to our satisfaction and the time expected. Did not use wi-fi due to fee.
