First, I love this place and would recommend it. I love all of the old style and original antique everything about the place. The only downfall is that antique things don't always work like new things. Nothing bad just a couple of things like the AC in the room and the front door lock, how to use them. Otherwise I absolutely love this place.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Comfortable stay in an historic gem"
It was quite nice. Cozy. Nice folks running it. I really like the communal dining area. It created an almost bed-and-breakfast atmosphere. There was a lot more to do in the town of Wheeler than we realized. Good restaurants nearby (check out the Tsunami Bar & Grill)Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Old Character in a Small Town"
Most people might pass through Wheeler and entirely miss this wonderful little spot. It's really only about 20-25 minutes away from Cannon Beach and a quiet, little hotel that maintains the feel of an old hotel. The rooms are all unique and have character, and the furniture has the feel of being antiques. It has a lot of character and our hostesses were […] charming and accomodating. The views from the bay side are gorgeous. It's well worth a stay here. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Really nice old fashioned hotel"
The owner and staff go out of their way to make you feel at home. Common dining area has real dishes instead of foam and plastic wear. Breakfast is a cut above the usual hotel "continental".. fresh yogurt, eggs, fruit, granola, etc. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Location is on the main 101, not noisy though. There are good views of the bay from the […] room or common area. The entire hotel is on the second floor, so you have to climb some stairs. First floor consists of antique shops and a cafe. The hotel provides free DVD's for rainy days and evenings. This is a very friendly place to stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"bed and breakfast experience"
We loved the Old Wheeler Hotel. We were celabrating our 40th anniversary. Beautiful river views from some rooms. Also bathroom is down the hall for some rooms but is not shared. It was our first visit to Oregon and wonderful. The breakfast was continental style but nicer than the chain hotel offerings.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

A delightful hotel for a relaxing getaway. "Loved this Bed and Breakfast"

"Perfect hotel for romantic holiday"
A very charming, reasonably priced art deco hotel in a great location away from the more touristy parts of the coast: a great base for day trips. The staff were friendly and helpful. Being old and near the water, the room had a bit of a musty odor, but using the ac helped. Room 6 has a private bath down the hall, not very inconvenient. In all, a great […] place to stay. "Charm and Class"
If you like old Hotels this place is great. we would not only put this on our top listings, but will suggest the place to our travelling friends.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This little gem is charming. Attention to detail is unlike any I've experienced from the decor, period elevator, on down to the welcome cards by your room door. My only complaint is that I didn't have a bathroom in my room. My bathroom was private, but down the hall, and the XL bathrobe was nice to use during te night. "An imperfect hotel for an imperfect world"
While I understand that a small operation cannot necessarily have my room ready early, there are many things that a hotel can do to help a traveler who wants to check in early (stow their bags, invite them to hang out in the common room until their room is ready, things like that) and we were just cheerfully refused. Bad start, tough to recover. The […] bed was absurdly soft and it took much of the next day before my back stopped aching. As for the location - it's not on the water, exactly, but a good 100 yards away. And the water isn't the ocean, or anything like the ocean. It's a pretty setting, but there is no sound of surf or anything. The Nehalem Bay is really more a river. Not that it's all negative - the hotel is cute, it's kitschy, it has antiques everywhere, and it has good showers. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Quaint hotel in tiny town"
B & B like hotel, only 8 rooms, very quaint and friendly. Very clean and comfortable. Our room, #3 did not have a private bathroom attached to the room, rather our private bathroom was down the hall. Not that much of an inconvenience for us, as we are not shy, but if you need to use the rest room often in the middle of the night, it could be a problem. […] Look at the rooms available, it will tell you descriptions of each. Loved the atmosphere and amenities with this place. I would recommend it over any of the big chains. The town is tiny, but very friendly and we had fun antique shopping. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Old Wheeler hotel"
Except for checkin and 10pm curfew, this was the best. Everything was picture perfect. The location ( we looked out over the bay) was outstanding, there was a quilt shop next door BONUS, and the decor was very antique and charming. When I made the reservations there was no mention of the bathroom being down the hall, but it worked out fine. We did not […] haveto share it and were provided robes for trips on the night. Absolutely loved the charm and exquisitely furnished old hotel. The owner, Katie, was lovely and more than attentive to all our needs. Here 2 nights in August. Very comfy beds, beautiful linens and décor, clean. Nice staff. Even though the windows are double glazed, very glad that there is an air conditioning unit in the room to be able to close windows at night and let the white noise of the unit overcome the traffic sounds. Breakfast is not up to the standard of the rest of the hotel. A single English muffin in plastic or a bagel in plastic is your choice for a bread. Yogurt, juice, milk, hard boiled eggs. The hotel is so very nice and breakfast is barely mediocre; they could do so much better than pre-packaged single serving foods. Ice is hard to come by as there is a small portable ice machine that is available afternoons/evening but there is no ice available in the morning; too bad. I would stay here again but for as nice as some of this hotel is, other aspects are wanting.
"Peace and Quiet with an Incredible View"
07/28/14 Jamie M Portland, Oregon
I needed a break away from the city and found it in Wheeler at the Old Wheeler Hotel. The hotel is bright and colorful on the outside and decorated with beautiful antiques on the inside. I fell in love with the place the moment I walked through the door. I spent quite a bit of time throughout the weekend just going through the common areas looking at all of the furnishings and pictures of Wheeler in the early 1900s. The rooms were very quiet and the beds comfortable. Sitting and chatting in the Piano Room, I felt as though I was sitting in the parlor of a Victorian mansion. There was quite a selection of DVDs to view, but I chose to pretty much unplug and enjoy the quiet. I'm not a big breakfast-food person so I thoroughly enjoyed the selection available for the Continental-style breakfast. I didn't mind not having much to do in Wheeler itself because I wanted to be away from the crowds. I did enjoy spending quite a bit of time getting "lost" in the antique mall that is on the same block as the hotel. Before I left for home, I made another reservation to return later this year to have some more quiet time and will also return this winter for some good storm-watching!
"what a gem of a place to stay"
07/25/14 c o mcminnville
This is a true find at the coast. The people there are extremely friendly & helpful; the hotel was built in 1902 and is in excellent shape. Even has a cute little elevator. Although on Hwy 101, they have installed a 2nd window so you can hardly hear the traffic. Has a nice view of the estuary across the hwy. Free DVDs and it's quite an collection...even had Monty Python & the Holy Grail! Plus a good assortment of books to borrow. The breakfast was just OK...english muffins, bagels, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, blueberries/grapes/frozen strawberries. If you're going to Wheeler DO stay here. And do try the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad's picnic trip. Only runs a couple times a month in the summer but it's a beautiful 3 hour trip along the Salmonberry River.
"Wonderfully quirky place - quite unique"
07/05/14 Osdanuwati Salt Lake City, UT, USA
Not sure that I would recommend Wheeler as a base for Oregon Coast exploring as the town is tiny and wildly limited in restaurants (there are NO markets nor convenience stores) and activities. The hotel is very quaint with tons of character. Good staff, simple but nice breakfast, pleasant rooms with nice decor, etc. The polar opposite of chain properties.
"A Quintessential Place to Rest"
06/09/14 ReedQualley Vancouver, Washington
Linda and I stayed one night at the Old Wheeler Hotel, in room 2 - and it was the find of our lives. We have been by this spot so many times in our travels on the Oregon Coast - and did not even know this was a Hotel. Our stay was only the beginning of many more to come. The room was absolutely beautiful and restful. The view from the windows looking over the water enhanced the ambiance. We enjoyed our own in-room bathroom facilities in this particular room. We were celebrating Linda's birthday - and this could not have been a better gift for her. The Music Room, the Hallways, the Eating Commons, the Gift Shop - so quintessential to a pleasant stay on the Oregon Coast. We have a new appreciation for Wheeler. Thank you Katie and Katherine. We stayed in room #1 for two nights and had the place to ourselves. It was probably the best time we've ever had on a beach getaway! The place is very unique, light and bright, spotlessly clean and filled with beautiful furnishings and antiques. The views are spectacular of the bay, the town and the mountains. There is wildlife as well and binoculars in the windows. Our room was so comfortable we didn't want to leave it! What an incredibly peaceful and quaint town. There is a lot of fascinating history here and ghost tales. There are shared rooms here as well, a music room with sofas and a breakfast/game room with wrap around windows of the view. There's lots of parking. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, provided whatever we needed and gave suggestions about restaurants. There is great kayaking on the Nehalem river right across the street. We REALLY enjoyed the local cafe & coffee shop, Trillium Art gallery and women's boutique Cultivation, all located downstairs. Plenty of cool antique shops as well. It's so relaxing to get away from the crowds and enjoy this sleepy little town that makes you feel like you've been caught in a time warp back into the olden days. You can always take a short drive down to Tillamook or up to Manzanita or Cannon Beach.

Just got back from a wonderful weekend with friends at the Old Wheeler Hotel. This is our 3rd year back at the hotel. It is such a special place! Old and historic but beautifully restored and decorated. The hotel is so comfortable and the rooms, common places and amazing staff just make you feel at home. The ladies that have cared for us for the last 3 years feel like friends. Already looking forward to next year!
"We are already planning our return trip this summer."
04/16/14 Paulette-Noelle Plano, Texas
My sister and I spent a night at the Old Wheeler Hotel in March, and were blessed with two full days of sunshine. The view of Nehalem Bay from our window was spectacular and the sunset awesome. Every room in the hotel is filled with vintage treasures and every comfort. Breakfast room was well stocked, and we were invited to use it anytime for tea/coffee preparation. Several very good restaurants within walking distance, plus antiques and other shopping opportunities. A short drive away is the Nehalem Bay Winery, definitely worth a stop. Such a lovely, quaint hotel would recommend to anyone visiting the Oregon coast.
