"Relaxing and Peaceful"
Our hosts were great! They were welcoming and eager to meet our every wish. Their home has lovely antique furnishings. The B&B sits on the Mississippi and we had front row seats out on the patio to enjoy our bottle of wine. Breakfast was yummy every morning. We stayed for two days and would stay here in the future if we ever pass this way again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The Bed and Breakfast was Great"
The Delightful Breakfast with two times, either 8 or 9:30Am . The room was adorable, we chose the Eagles Nest and it was full of Eagle things, We could see the Ohio River from our room, and was a short walk to the river side. Sue gave us a good recommendation for a restaurant on a Barge on the Ohio River. The only thing that could have made this trip […] better would to be there earlier when the pool and the Jacuzzi was still open for the season. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Second visit for us...and we look forward to our next!!"

My husband and I returned to River Rose Inn Bed & Breakfast for the second time, visiting from October 10 - October 13, 2014. We stayed in the Eagle Room on the second floor. The beds are comfortable and the Inn is very clean overall. The Inn has five rooms, each with its own theme. There is a library, two public "sitting" room area's, several fire places in the home, and cable tv in every room/sitting area as well. There is a pool and a hot tub for the summer guests. I love the charm of the old house and its history as well. The house was built in the early 1900's and has a great view of the Ohio River. There is a large magnolia tree in the yard (possibly the oldest in Illinois?).. The grounds are beautifully maintained and made me feel as if I had stepped back in time. The main reason we returned to the River Rose was due to the hospitality of the owners, Sue and Bruce. They greatly impressed us during our stay in 2012, and it was no different this time. Sue and Bruce are wonderful people who go out of their way to make you feel at home and happy! And Sue can COOK; our breakfasts were amazing!! We felt like we were a part of their extended family while staying at the Inn!! We have traveled to many different states and countries and this is our favorite place because of Sue and Bruce!! We love the area, but more over we enjoyed relaxing each evening with Sue, Bruce, and other guests on the porch. We did a lot of hiking while there (Shawnee Forest is a treasure!) and also ventured across the Ohio River on the ferry from Cave In Rock to visit some Amish in northern Kentucky (amazing furniture and baked goods). Sue and Bruce have many different maps of the area that were helpful in chosing where we would hike each day. Be careful while hiking though; there are not trail ratings and my husband and I encountered a few pretty treacherous trails (we are active, healthy, athletic mid 30 year olds for frame of reference). I would recommend googling different trails and doing a little research before coming to the area if you plan on hiking. Also, it's a good idea to bring a small cooler to bring food/drinks with you. Food tip: if you order pizza from the restaurant in the gas station (only one gas station, can't remember the name of it though), call in advance because we had to wait close to an hour for our pizza. Otherwise, the Etown restaurant (a floating boat on the river almost across from the Inn) has really good BBQ and fish! There were several places within a fifteen mile radius that served geat food (ask Sue for her recommendations). Bottom line, if you are looking for an amazing place to relax, enjoy nature, and wonderful people (Sue and Bruce), this place has it all! We will be back and are looking forward to our next trip!
"Heaven in E'town, IL"

We spent four relaxing days with hosts Sue and Bruce at the River Rose Inn. The breakfasts were delicious and original and the hospitality could not have been more satisfying. The Inn overlooks the scenic Ohio River and is near a restaurant that serves the best catfish dinners to be had. We have spent time at the Inn in years past and each year things only improve. We cannot imagine a trip back to the Midwest not including a stay with Sue and Bruce. Patty & Dave
"Charming and Hospitable"

This was a beautiful place to stay. We were immediately welcomed by a darling lady, Sue- the owner- as she was enjoying the afternoon on the beautiful, inviting front porch. She made us feel right at home. We felt like we took a step back in time- the inn is fully stocked with hand crafted antique furniture and Victorian- esque decor. We made good use of the very clean outdoor pool and hot tub, as we enjoyed the view of the river while doing so. The rooms were clean, and the bed was very comfy. If you want the regular, run of the mill hotel experience then do not stay here. This was a unique experience and we can't wait to return in the fall! Thanks Sue, Bruce, and Rosie for having us!
"Outstanding hosts and inn"

Owners Bruce and Sue were most accommodating and helpful. Even after we told them we were a same-sex couple who came to Elizabethtown to be married the next day, we were warmly welcomed. All the rooms had period furniture of the 1920s which lent to the authenticity of the inn. There are five rooms, one downstairs and four upstairs. Each has its own bathroom. Our bathroom was really large with a hot tub as an extra bonus. We highly recommend this inn--and Sue is a great cook. The free breakfast was outstanding. The inn was very clean. Thanks for making our trip memorable. Also:Sue and Bruce just bought the inn across the street. It was built in the 1850s.

Firstly this was a real poor place to stay. We certainly would not recommend it. The room was dirty, the hosts were not the most hospitable. Our bathroom flooded twice in two days, the second time we had to clean it ourselves!! We were disgusted at the standard of this establishment. We booked due to excellent reviewson tripadvisor. Are these reviews genuine? We will certainly not recommend.
"What a relaxing stay."

The wife and I stayed at the B&B October 4th thru the 7th of 2013. The Innkeepers- Sue and Bruce were wonderful! This was or first time in this area of Southern Illinois. WOW, it is beautiful. We stayed in the Eagles Nest room. This room is on the 2nd floor. It is situated in the front of the house. You do have a partial view of the Ohio River. Room and private bathroom were spacious enough for two. Bed was very comfortable. Overall condition was fairly good for the age of the home. Areas were clean and tidy. Breakfast was phenomenal. Grounds are spectacular. View outside is very scenic and the Ohio River is just across the street. There is an outdoor pool and hot tub. Unfortunately, we did not get a chance to use either of these included amenities. Beach towels are provided. Pool was closed for the season. E’town Restaurant is just across the street floating on the river. Yes, it is a floating restaurant. You have to try the fresh caught river catfish and hush puppies. We actually have another long weekend booked in the middle of November, 2013. We are staying in the Scarlet Room and will let you know how we like this room and stay. The Scarlet Room has a whirlpool tub and private balcony. Happy traveling!
"What a view!"

Spent the last day part our 18th wedding Anniversary trip here. Lovely view of the Ohio River from our room & the yard. Didn't get a chance to use the hot tub or pool, but is very well kept. Sue made a great breakfast. Very friendly & accommodating. Would not hesitate to stay here again.
"The view and the mansion!"

We had the Rose Room at this lovely B & B. This room has a door into the garden where you can sit in the shade or in the sun and watch ships passing slowly on the mighty Ohio River. Great! There is also a swimming pool and a hot tub in the large garden. The room was very nice, the Quen bed average. Bruce gave us a warm welcome. We had bad luck, there was no breakfast because his wife Sue (Bruce cannot cook) had to go to her family for an urgent matter. We got a rebate on the room rate and had a good breakfast in a new restaurant, 2 min. walk. The E-Restaurant on a boat at the quai was very nice because of this unique location.
"Will go back !!"

We usually don't stay in B&B's, lodging is very limited in the Cave-in-Rock, IL area so chose the River Rose because of the location on the Ohio River and stayed 7-16-2012. Sue and Rosie (cute little dog) greeted us, made us feel like we were family and even let us put our Harley in the garage overnight. It's a wonderful historic house, very clean with lots of updates. We chose the Rose Room because it was on ground floor with private entrance (opened to small patio sitting area and close to pool and hot tub) and views of the river. We enjoyed dinner at the E-Town Restaurant with family, then sit on the patio under a large Magnolia tree (was told oldest in IL) for a night cap watching the peaceful flow of the river. Sue suggested we open the windows for the gentle breeze, but temperatures were in the high '90's so wanted the AC. Breakfast the next morning was served on dishes that seemed like they came from my grandmother's china cabinet, mixed fruit, breakfast casserole, bacon and 3 pieces of french bread toast to sample the 3 kinds of home-made jam. Sue and Bruce are super hosts and we will stay there again.
"Don't Pass up this place!"

We were doing volunteer work in the National Forest and happened to find this WONDERFUL B-n-B. EXCELLENT food, wonderful hospitality, and Sue and Bruce made our stay easy as our hours were "strange" due to the work in the forest. We look forward to staying there again when we will be able to relax and enjoy the property and tour the area!
