This hotel is in the perfect location for getting around shanghai. It really is five minutes away from the people's square station... The hotel is kind of noisy, and the beds are typical Chinese hard beds. Enjoyed having a refrigerator and stove in the room.

apart from the great location in the heart of Shanghai next to People's Square, this hotel provided us a spacious room with kitchen, great selection of int'l TV channels, deposit safe box, A/C, good internet connection (but it wasn't wifi), complimentary bottles of water every morning etc at a very competitive price - apparently, we got some discount […] because we stayed longer than 3 nights. Staff very friendly, some speak English and will find them if they do not understand you. Good breakfast buffet with variety that changes so not the same every day. Good substantial meal! Other restaurants on nearby street with good variety and prices. Some have menus in English. Neighborhood felt very safe. Excellent "service apartments" with stocked kitchen and basic toiletries. TV has CNN BBC CNBC and several movie chanells in English Plus many channels in Mandarin. Excellent value. Would definitely stay there again. Some Americans find the beds too firm. I thought they were comfortable and you could always put a duvet on top to make a "pillow top" mattress. Pillows were great. This was not a four star hotel. I would rate this 2.5 at best. Compared to other surrounding hotels this should not be considered a 4 star. The rooms were outdated and poorly maintained. This was my second time staying there. The first time was excellent. This time? Not so much. After flushing the toilet would "run"..forever. I asked them to fix this when going out for the day my first day. They said they would. I came back and the water wasnt running..but after flushing ..it ran forever again. I had to ask every day for FOUR days […] for them to fix it properly and they never did. Eventually I had to fix it myself. Another day when going out a bit late we stopped by the front desk and asked them to make up the room, put 2 extra towels in the room, and to put 2 glasses (the room only had coffee cups). They wrote it down. But they didnt make up the room. When I complained they gave me a coca cola and a sprite. The next day when I left and came back..they STILL HADNT MADE UP THE ROOM. The kicker? They had come into the room, left me a plate of fruit and a type written letter. The letter explained they "knew I didnt want to be disturbed". But I hadnt left a "dont disturb" sign out. And if they thought I didnt want to be disturbed, why did they come into the room to leave the note saying they wouldnt disturb me? Bizarre. The next morning at 8:30am (when I DID have the "do not disturb" sign out) a maid knocked on my door and rang the bell until I opened the door and pointed to the sign. I stayed in this hotel 4 nights and than again 2 nights on this trip and liked it very much. The location is 5 minutes walk to the East Nanjing pedestrian mall. The room was huge each time, had a kitchenette with all utensils needed and very convenient. The breakfast was fine, with sufficient choices, many of them were changing on the daily basis. The […] Internet was working fine in the room; sometimes WiFi was slow, so I switched to the cabke connection which was faster. The only downside was that many pimps approaching you are near the hotel in the square between it and Marriott, so this is sort of annoyance. I think police has to do something with it. One tip for other people and potential guests: it is very convenient (4 short blocks away) to People Square subway station. The closest exit to the hotel is Exit 19, If you have luggage, then Exit 16 is more convenient as then you use moving stairs, once you are on the street, turn around and walk north on the main street. You will actually see the big brown building ahead of you. On the same street (I think Xinjian Middle Road) there is an elevator (between Exit 16 and the corbner of West Nanjing road- you won't miss it) up and down taking you to the subway lobby lever, so it is good if you go to the airport with luggage. Close to the most famous shopping street and city center, easy to get taxi or use public transportation. I had executive suite which has large size of rooms with balconies. The breakfast is OK. The room is clean. The washer and dryer are at first floor for guest use for 30 Chinese Yuan(about 4.5US $) per wash and another 30 Chinese Yuan to use dryer. […] The sizes of washer or dryer are much smaller.
