Lady Diana Hotel - Istanbul

I stayed in this horrible place on May 11-14, 2013. Once you check in you're greeted w attitude in the front desk. The hotel is under construction and i was placed in a room sharing the wall w the construction side. I asked the front desk agent the hours of construction work. He told me (w attitude of course) from 9am-6pm. I didn't think it would be […] a problem since i would be visiting the city during these hours. Well, my very next night (Sunday night) at 9:20pm i could still feel the construction workers doing their thing. As i went down to the lobby to complain, the hotel said that the workers actually had legal permission to work until midnight... So i complained about the noise, about the front desk agent lying to me about the construction hours the day i checked in and i requested a room change. They changed me to another room on the other side of the hotel. Don't be fooled, I could still hear the construction but at least i wasn't sharing the same wall w it. The wifi only worked if you were standing by the room door close to the hallway. The only good thing about the hotel is the terrace view and the breakfast in the restaurant. The restaurant staff is very professional as well. This was the most expensive hotel i stayed at during my 2 week vacation w my wife and daughter in 3 different countries in Europe... And the worst hotel i've ever been to. I would never stay in this hotel again!!! Read more

Room and bath clean but a bit small, problem is that air-conditioning did not work that well. We were hot at night, leaving window open did not work because of mosquitoes. No elevator to the resturant floor only to floor below. Difficult if you have a problem with stairs.

The location of the hotel in the historic Sultanhmet area was very convenient to many important tourist attractions and also to the Tram which is a great way to travel to many locations in Istanbul. The view from the […] Hotel terrace restaurant is fantastic both in the morning and evening and is exactly as pictured in their hotel advertisement with the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia close and clearly visible. The hotel, housekeeping and restaurant staff were very polite, efficient and helpful and made our stay very comfortable. The rooms were neat and clean and very user friendly if a bit small if you select one of the cheaper double rooms. The size was not really an issue during our stay as we were out most of the time and even when our son was over visiting the room was still of a sufficient size to let us all rest between our excursions around the city. My husband and I stayed at this hotel at the beginning of August, 2011. My first impression of the room was not favorable, the carpet looked worn out, there was plenty of mildew in the bathroom tiles. Toward the 2nd and 3rd night we had plumbing problems in the tub. I was amazed to know that my room was taken out or there was a problem the hotel was facing as they asked me to wait for 2 hours until we get the room which we booked. They didn’t welcome us properly or at least provide cold drinks which I had to pay for unlike my stay in Malaysia last year. We agreed to go there but were terrified in the other hotel’s room as Air Conditioning wasn't working mid-day at 2 till 8 PM which made me upset and I had to call the hotel reception and ask them to send a technician or a maintenance guy. This didn't happen and the receptionist asked me to wait a couple of hours before the A/C starts cooling the room which is an unacceptable answer to me. Also, the receptionist was very rude and asked me when I will leave back to my hotel as they are giving me a favour in providing this room. I believe that there is no free lunch in this world and I am paying for my supposedly relaxing vacation/stay. Once I went back to Lady Diana, I had a problem with their breakfast timing as they served breakfast between 7 and 10 AM and I shared my concern with the Hotel Manager but he didn’t do anything about it. I suggested that they either need to extend the timing like many other hotels I have been to before or send breakfast to the rooms requesting it.I had to pay for my breakfast every single day at 11 AM. The staff can be described as nohting more than hatefull. They seem to resent their job. They are completely incompetent. I booked a king size bed and was given two single beds. This is unacceptable as İ am 6feet 2 inches tall and the beds are merely 6feet 6inches long and maybe 30inches wide. When confronted with the descrepency they claimed it was […] my fault. My experience with the hotel was good in general. The hotel location was great, the room and the hotel in general were clean and well-maintained, the front desk people were English speakers, polite and helpful, and the rate of the room for the time I travelled was reasonable (I travelled during Kurban Bayrami or Eid Al-Adha which is a public holiday […] in Turkey) However, I expected a little bit more from a 4-Star hotel. Although the following points won't affect my overall evaluation, I thought to list them in case they are important for somebody else: 1. I requested a king-size bed when I booked but they gave me a twin-bed room. When I asked it to be changed they showed me another room that has no outside view and very small that it hardly has any space except the one occupied by the bed already. I was told that this is the only room they have (which I doubt) and they can't even change my bed. 2. One day I returned to my room to find out that one of the beds that were in the room (see point #1) has gone! When I asked about it, the guy in the front desk looked surprised. I was annoyed because no one told me the bed will be taken and because I'm using the bed to put some stuff on it for easy reach. Anyway, they were kind to return it back fast. 3. The breakfast wasn't fine but not as good as expected. Again, we're talking about 4-Star hotel. The variety is there, but the quality can be improved. I had breakfast with Turkish family before I go to Turkey and in Turkey; I can't say that I expected the same quality, but shouldn't be that different. 4. The room size is small, and I mean small. The same applies for the bathroom. I was alone in the room, so it was kind or okay, but if we were 2 I think we'll start stepping on each other's feet while moving in the room. In the bathroom there is hardly place for 1 and the bathtub is useless. 5. I had problem with the bathroom sink and the bathtub; they were not draining the water well. I wanted to stay within walking distance of all the major sights. The location of the Lady Diana Hotel in Sultanahmet cannot be beat. We were a 5-minute walk from the Blue Mosque, just at the end of the street the hotel is on. Saint Sofia and the Grand Bazaar are a 10- min walk. The tram is a block away and a convenient way to travel. There are many […] restaurants (mid-range in price) within a block of the hotel. Small shops with gifts/souvenirs are also found here, but on the pricey side since they cater to tourists. The hotel is modest with small rooms and not a 4-star hotel as advertised. Beds very hard and uncomfortable. Many services, like laundry, are not provided on site. I was awakened near 11:00pm one night by a breathless porter with my laundry that had just arrived (but should have been delivered by 5pm). Concierge staff speak English reasonably well, but don't always communicate important nuances, such as city tours can be paid by credit card. We wasted a lot of cash on payments the hotel didn't tell us can be paid otherwise because they didn't want to pay the fee. Heating/AC are controlled by the hotel, not each room. There is one rooftop restaurant that offers beautiful views, but a limited menu at relatively high rates ($75 for three plates of spaghetti and water). Breakfast is included in the room rate and is a pretty good continental style buffet. If you want cheap and great location without frills, this is your hotel. If not, try the next price range up. My wife and I stayed at this hotel during our honeymoon in Istanbul. We enjoyed our stay and wanted to list out the pros and cons below. Pro's: - You can't ask for a better location. It is in the heart of all of the major historic attractions. We were able to walk to most areas of interest including taskim square - Staff was very friendly and helpful. - […] The daily free breakfast was the best that I have every had on any of my trips. - The rooftop restaurant where breakfast is held and we had a great dinner has an amazing view of the area - The lobby and rooms were clean - There was a blackout in Istanbul one day and this hotel was one of the few buildings in the area had a generator. Cons - While the hotel was clean the rooms were not the best maintained. The towel rack and toilet paper holders both fell of the wall while we were out one day. - We went in September when the temps were in the High 70s low 80s. We would leave the air conditioner on all day and the room would still be hot when we got back. I could not have handled this during the summer months when the temps are higher. - The beds are as hard as a rock. My back was killing me by the end of our stay. The hotel is in a great location in the Sultanahmet, close to the tourist sites in that area. It had a pretty decent breakfast in a beautiful rooftop restaurant overlooking the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque, it was even possible to see the Sea of Marmara and the land on the other side. The downsides to the hotel were the size of the rooms. The bathroom was tiny, with a shower that if you're even a little on the bigger side, you'll be hitting your elbows on the walls. Our room had two twin beds, it was pretty small but it was okay considering we went spending great lengths of time in the hotel. The beds were pretty hard though, but if you're tired enough it doesn't matter. The A/C is great during the day but they seem to have some control over it because it gets warmer overnight no matter what you do.
